Natural And Textured Hairstyles For The Kibbe Types | Authentic By Frani

I recently noticed a gap in the recommendations for hairstyles as it relates to Kibbe body typing, so in this video, I start a conversation on representation in body typing systems and how they often "forget" Black women.

Let me know what you think and if I missed anything!

hairstyles for black women, kibbe hair styles for black women, hairstyles for the body types, hairstyles for kibbe body types, flamboyant gamine hairstyles

I hope you brought your notes. I hope you made some tea hey you guys, i hope you're doing well today, you're going to be talking about hair. I'Ve talked about hair quite a bit on my channel so far, because i think it's important to me. But what i've noticed in talking about hair and talking about representation of black women in body typing systems is that it's actually really limiting for a lot of people with more textured afro hair to find where they fit in that. And so i wanted to make a video dedicated to black women and their versatile, beautiful hair as something to be proud of, and something to you know let shine in kibby's facebook group. I'Ve noticed that he has a couple different women, and one of you guys actually pointed this out to me in the comments where he did the reveals for like their makeovers and everything. One of them was a woman who wore her hair, natural and, and he just kind of trimmed it up for her and everything and made that her look. She was a flamboyant and there's another woman who, i think was a natural type. Maybe she was soft dramatic. I can't exactly remember, essentially, he gave her like a wig or a weave or something like that, and it made me wonder like well what about the women who want examples for their hair in its natural state? There are a lot of women who don't want to put heat on their hair, or maybe they don't like the feeling of wearing wigs and extensions, and things like that, and i believe that you, you could probably just find a style that works for your type and Your natural hair, without having to use heat to manipulate it or cover it up and hide it. Of course, if that's your preference and you like wearing a wig and you like the versatility of that, then go for it. But i think this video is particularly going to be talking about hairstyles for women who don't want to hide their texture and who want to use their texture for their body type for their yin yang balance. I have a video where i talk about the hair question on the kibi test. I have a video where i talk about wearing your hair long as a flamboyant mean, which is what i am. This video, i think, is just going to cover pretty briefly i'm going to go through all of the types and then some different looks for each type. Of course, there's going to be spaces where there's information missing, but just consider this a starting point. If you see a style that you like in that - and it maybe goes with another body type - don't worry, don't you don't have to change your whole entire look, but this is just kind of a launch point for anyone who's feeling a little bit stuck with how To wear their hair in its natural state, so here's just a few ideas that i have and and i'll talk to you a little bit about why. I think that works for that body type as well as just a couple general rule of thumb, kind of things. When it comes to hair anyway, let's go ahead and get started all right. You guys, let's start with dramatic types and soft dramatic some great ideas, for you would be to go with a hairstyle. That'S really long! So you could do box braids! You could do twists something that accentuates the verticality of your frame. I think a really good example of someone who does this well is tracy ellis ross. If you look at her style, i think you can find a lot of inspiration for soft, dramatic and even pull from her. If you're, you know regular dramatic, you can kind of remove some of the yin from her styles and create a look that works for you too. But a lot of how she dresses is very like big and bold and awesome, and she is a huge proponent of celebrating your natural hair and your curls and your kinks and the frizz and all of it. And i think she does a really good job of that um for soft dramatic. She wears lots of styles that are very rounded and huge. Another look that i think would be good for soft dramatic would be one that's kind of blown out and massive. If you can grow your hair long and have that blown out kind of frizzy, rounded look. I think that would look really beautiful on you as well, so for dramatics. I would focus on something that is long, elongating or even something that is really sharp and geometric. I was thinking of grace jones recently and how she had that very sharp cut, and you can just see how that accentuates. Her cheekbones and all of the angularity in her face and really draws that out and if you're soft dramatic then focus on having a large, rounded style. Okay, romantic, that's on the other side of the spectrum, so a big part of the romantic essence is something that feels delicate and light kind of weightless and honestly, i feel like afro-textured hair is like the epitome of that. Like a lot of people, ask me all the time like: don't you feel like your hair is like heavy? Doesn'T it feel heavy, but it's like actually no it's kind of light as a feather the way that it grows defies gravity. So i feel like it's almost the epitome of light airy weightless a good way to accentuate that would either if you have a lot of definition already like in your hair. Naturally, then, just wear it short and wear it in a way, that's kind of whimsical and face framing, but another way to do it would be to use like flexi rods, a small and defined curl, and your hair would really accentuate your essence. So go for that. Another thing with romantic, theatrical romantics is that you can handle a lot of kind of glamorous feeling things, and so i was imagining you guys wearing some hair jewelry or maybe some flowers in your hair or something kind of like that, because i just think that would Look just so beautiful and like effortless in that way, and really be in harmony with your lines and especially for theatrical romantics. You could find some sort of like metal jewelry to put into your hair, and especially if it was like rounded or it had like some sort of gemstones on it or intricate detailing on it. That would be a really cool way to honor your essence with your hairstyle, and it would also give a bit more boldness and more weight for theatrical romantic, who needs a little bit of sharpness to complement her lines. So those are my ideas for romantic, theatrical romantic. All right, my classic, ladies, what is up so, i feel like with classic types. You definitely need to lean towards something that is symmetrical and is neat. That would require a lot of times pulling your hair back out of your face. Maybe if you wanted to have a few face framing pieces, that's fine, but i think a good way to do. That would be to almost similar to a style that i'm wearing right. Now it's just to have your hair kind of braided back and you can either have it lit land in like a low bun like what i have going on or you could have it in a ponytail in the back like you, don't have to like hide the Texture back here, it's not about hiding it, but it's about kind of making the space around your face, really neat and really even to you know, play up that essence that you have. You can go for something, that's a little bit more understated in a way where you can. I was thinking you could do like a twist as well to pull it back, so you can do that. One look especially like dramatic classic, since you can handle a little bit of asymmetry in your look to do a side part and then have it kind of swoop. Down into that almost like. It'S not really a milk made braid, but it's it's kind of similar where it comes down and wraps back the same thing on the other side and comes down, and i just think that would look really really good on you guys but yeah the goal for you Guys would be to just find a style that is symmetrical. That is neat that has that understated elegance to it and that can include wearing your hair completely out as well in its natural state. You'Ll, have your like your middle part, so to speak, and then you have it kind of slicked and pinned and then slicked and pinned, and then your natural hair is just out in a very neat, symmetrical shape. But you have that space where it's like. A very clear and defined structure at the front in your face area, if that makes sense, i'll have a picture of course, but that's. I think that would look really good for you guys, okay, natural types, you have it the easiest, i would say, because you can handle not only a symmetry but also like that undone kind of effortless. Look like you, don't really have to try too hard. For definition. In your curls, you don't have to try too hard for like an evenness in your cut or the way that it dries. You can kind of just handle a wide messy style, and so i think that that's really easy to achieve. If you have natural hair funny that it's even called natural hair but yeah, what you would focus on is something that's kind of wide kind of blunt. Maybe a little bit frizzy would look really good. You could even do locks if that was something that you're interested in, that could look really really effortless and harmonious on you guys. I think that um, a good person to look to for this, would be natural 85, honestly, like she used to wear her hair in these twist outs that were just so cool. They were really long and like they kind of like, swept over her face, so they had this. Just like oh yeah, the wind just blew, and now my hair looks like this. I think that if you're soft natural, you could also look to um alicia keys when it's like really huge and out like. I just think that looks so good. Those are some good examples of people to look to if you're looking for some hairstyles um. That would work for you. Last but not least, let's talk about the means. Obviously i talked about games the most on my channel because i am one: hey flam gam fam. What what so i've seen games with long hair that look really good i've seen games with buzz cuts that look really good like you can do so much? You can have your long braids! You can have locks. You can have a pixie cut like halle berry. You can wear your hair and all these interesting updos think of janelle monae. She wears her hair in those like kind of cool. Cliffs, i think, is what they're called you can do, things that are really extreme and even leaning kind of trendy, if you want to. But if you want to look that is like always going to work and is always going to make, you feel really good about yourself, then i think that you should go for a bob. I know i know in the past i've definitely just like said you can just do whatever you want, but recently i've been wearing my hair in like a twisted bob, and so my actual hair length shrinks to here and that's another thing you have to consider in All of these styles is shrinkage, so maybe your hair is actually shoulder length, but when it shrinks it's a bob kind of a thing. You know i tend to wear my hair these days in a twisted bob, and i love it. I think it's so cute. I think it makes every single outfit that i put on work that much more so, for you guys. I think that it would be a great idea to go for something like that. If you can get your hair grown out in a way that feels kind of even then wear it in twists or braids. So of course, you're going to want to focus on you know kind of tousled messy styles. You want them to be short and that's going to really play up that youthful and vibrant essence that you have as a commune all right. You guys that's it for this video. That'S everything that i i have thought of in this topic. Well, it's maybe not everything that i've thought of, but i wanted to keep this video shorter. So if you had any ideas pop up in your brain as i was talking through each of the types in which hairstyles would look really good on them, tell me in the comments or if you know what body type you have already and you have a style. That'S like your go-to, that makes you feel the best talk about it down in the comments below, and maybe you can help inspire somebody else or help them have a starting point for figuring out what works on their body and with their face, and all of that Sort of stuff - obviously i say this every time i talk about hair, it is really a personal thing like it's something that carries a lot of weight. I think, especially in the black community, to have your hair be acceptable or professional or celebrated, or anything like that, and so i really wanted to take some time to highlight that in this video i know that it's hard for us to see ourselves sometimes in the Kiwi system, and especially when a lot of the women who are like the face and body of a type, don't really look like us, like that's it's really hard to find where you belong. I do think that the system, the kidney system is really helpful in some ways, and so i would love to help kind of make. It feel a little bit more accessible to people who might feel like they are left out of it, and so that's my goal with this video. So i hope you have a great week or weekend or whenever you end up watching this video um. I hope that you are finding little moments of peace in your day and taking time to take care of yourself and take care of your body and your mind, and all of that that said, i will talk to you in the next video if you're subscribed and If you're not well, it would be a good idea to subscribe thanks so much for watching. I will see you in the next one: bye,

TheStranger200: Yesss this is exactly what we need. if kibbe wont address the race/weight/gender diversity issue, we'll do it ourselves. I loved this

Romans holiday: Starts 3:26 dramatics 7:00 classics 9:10 naturals 10:38 gamines

OA: Great video! I wish more black women would use their platforms more to discuss how Kibbe could apply to black women. You are indeed a trailblazer! Unsurprisingly, Pinterest has a lot of helpful pins and boards that do include ideas for how Kibbe hair suggestions would look on black women. Personally, I've just decided to follow black celebrity FNs. Specifically Solange, because she fully understands her lines and what hair fits her which may be unbeknownst to her, aligns with Kibbe's standard.

Monee Broadnax: Reddit has been a great resource for African American hairstyles for the body types.❤️

Audrey Coyne: Absolutely love this!

N Fischer: Great! So glad I found a woman of African decent talking about this

Natmari: Thank you for this video! I’m a black woman who is a soft gamine that has natural hair. I hope this goes viral like the other Kibbe videos!

Unneighborly Arcades: I feel the bob is so universal and can really fit all types, depending upon how it's styled. I guess that can be said for quite a lot of haircuts though. I've been more interested in hair representation since my little cousin was born. She's only 5 and already equates straight hair with "pretty hair". No one told her that. It just goes to show how a lack of representation can send the message that what is not represented is not desirable, if that makes sense. She also wants her hair rainbow-colored and with stars shaved into it, but that's not quite as worrisome.

Alexis Carroll: Thank you so much for this video! This representation is sorely missing and I love how you discussed it and the examples you gave. Very well done!

Just Natonya: Thank you for this because I was basically guessing on the hairstyles! I'm a theatrical romantic and I find wearing my hair down in braid/twistouts with accessories really flatters my look. The examples you shared help me out so much because now I know I'm on the right track.

Faith Bell: Love this! I’m a soft natural. I love wearing twist outs, especially when they’ve lost a lot of definition and more effortlessly fluffy. And I’d like to have locs one day. I get the natural description lined up perfectly!

N D: This! Is! What! I need! Liked this video before watching. I am a soft classic and yes agree on the hairstyle being neat. I do a lot of flat twists, low buns and plaits. When I do wear my hair out I make sure it's structured and not all crazy.

Ngozi Janea: This video is sooooo needed! I think I'm a soft dramatic and a great style for my hair is a twist out cut into an asymmetrical bob. With my shrinkage, the cut brings in some angularity that highlights my cheekbones, while my curls bring the rounded shapes that compliment my body. You've got me thinking about other elements to incorporate as I develop my style. Thank you

Georgia Williams: As a mixed chick with transitioning hair and FG I appreciate you covering natural styles.

Alisya E: I just discovered your channel (not sure how!) so I've been binge watching all of your videos! You seem really sweet! I've never heard of the Kibbe Body typing before, so I took the test and got soft natural as my results. But from more research I think I am more of a flamboyant natural, but I honestly don't know. It's fun to think about though!

Sew with Michelle : I found out recently I'm a soft natural and I was wondering what I could do for my hair so this was honestly a great video to find! Thank you so much <3

Ashleigh Battiste: I’m grateful for your content! I recently discovered that I’m a Soft Natural and not a Theatrical Romantic. It’s led me to try to find a protective style that will work with my body, and I think, based on your suggestion, that I’ll try Senegalese Twists because they will resemble the dreadlock look the most.

Jasmyn Oliver-Parris: Thank you so much for this! Been struggling to find content regarding natural hair with the Kibbe types, especially as a soft gamine, and this just hit the nail on the head. Doing God's work!

Sholape Tinubu: So happy i found this video! I've just recently discovered the kibbe body types. I'm a soft classic. I've shaved my head a couple of times - fun but too much yang. I'm finally growing it out - about 5 inches with shrinkage. And add some texture with a sponge and i think i could wear my hair like this forever. It's such a classic look but the texture adds such a softness thought i'd share.

Queren M: I'm a soft natural, and my hair is naturally wavy which is really easy to style with my body type hehe

Ambient Sounds: Great! Was looking all over for someone who spoke on this topic! Cause I struggle as a true classic with natural hair

Marssaié J: Thank you so much for this. A Kibbe type video for black women is so necessary. Looking forward to more :) x

Random Carrot: symmetrical and neat for classics <3 thank you also for the pictures, they're very helpful

God's Treasure: Good job. Your spot on. Love that your addressing the black community too. So fun !!

Life Styled Lovely: This is soo good!!! I have long locs like 10 years worth, but I love when my hair is loosely curled or wavy! Not sure what my brown girl friendly kibbie type is because the facial features always throw me off. I think I am In the natural category body wise but my face feels rounder to me...

lu: this video was soo informative and interesting, thank you so much!!!

susiedbc: Thank you for these videos! I am white, but have 3B/3C hair. I appreciate your analyses.

Margot A: Glad I found this. I was getting anxiety bc I found my dress lines but hair is another story

Adriana Detrinidad: Excellent video! Thank you so much for sharing! <3

Mac Chan: I hate that I'm only finding this now but crochet braids are also very versatile as a style and can go well with soft dramatic, natural, or even classic types and also a less permanent style alternative to locks.

Sheila Kosoff: What about a soft dramatic with chin length locs? I just stated to Under stand the kibbe method and it explained why I liked certain clothes on my body. I mean I finally understand about the long vertical lines. I would always alway get compliments when wearing my lines. And why I looked better with longer hair. I had my head buzzed cut for awhile and when I grew it back it was I looked better in my clothes. There is really something about this kibbe method. I just subscribed to your channel because I finally found some representation.

Kenisha Calder: This was so cool! Thanks for sharing. Peace & Love

Iriss Delgadillo: Soft Classic: Thank you for this!!!!!

Chrissie Brown: I’ve been looking for something like this for a while! Lol thank you.

sd24: Thank you!!! I was searching for videos like this! <3

Sammyrow: Love the content. This is a much needed space as it taylors to ethnic women but using Kibbe's principles. The only feedback I would have is it would be amazing to provide timestamps in your discription for your viewers. So if someone wants to just get the advice for a soft dramatic lets say, they can refer to that exact point from the provided timestamp.

Annika A: Love this thanks so much ☺️

Ronni j: Thanks for these tips very helpful....im getting married in the fall of 2022 and now i kinda of have an idea how to wear my natural hair im doing the " ROMANTIC " natural hair style

Caryl Jones: Some great ideas. I'll try the dramatic classic for soft dramatic every day updo!

Syren90 (AKA "9"): Coif - sounds like (K*wh*au*ff). Is the pronunciation you were referencing in regard to Janelle's signature, retro hairstyle. Great video, very informative and your presentation is lovely. Take care.

DahliaRose: Wow, you look amazing in the twisted bob and the red jumpsuit!

Lindsay Wilson: Great video! So needed. Thank you.
