When it comes to the hair and makeup industry, beauty often really is a pain and not just on consumers, but also on the environment with pollution and plastics. But thankfully, a brand on the rise is at the forefront of women's wellness and sustainability. Revolutionizing the braid game that is better for both your scalp and the environment, hi i'm daniel. This is in the know, shop small, where i sit with some incredible small business owners, making amazing products that you need in your life pronto today, i'm with sierra imani may the founder of rebundle, a company that is founded in sustainable braiding hair that is making waves In the world of clean beauty, sierra very nice to meet you thanks for coming, you do this well, thanks for having me so first off tell us your story and how it led to the founding of rebundle a few summers ago i was growing my hair out From a fade wearing braids back to back, i was really suffering from really bad scalp irritation and i was just trying to figure out like what was going on at that time. I was also trying to live like a low waist, zero waste lifestyle and kind of realized that there was a connection between the type of materials being used in plastic, synthetic hair and the irritation that i was experiencing. So at that point it became a decision of whether or not i was going to continue to wear my braids and if i was going to do that, how i was going to do it sustainably. So, after that we did some product testing, we sent out samples lots of r d built. Our team raised some money. So now, braid better is the first us-made plant-based, braiding hair. It'S made out of banana fiber. It'S itch free, it's comfortable and it's doing exactly what i need it to do. Can you tell me a little bit about your plant-based production process? It'S made out of naturally extracted banana fiber, which means it's cut down from the stem of the tree. We get it in a variety of lengths and then once we receive it, we our process includes dyeing it texturizing it combing it and writing it like. It is for packaging. So tell me a little about the products you have today. What are these braids yeah? So i brought three of our our staple products. Break better is available in really five colors, but you know have blue right now. It'S limited edition. We don't sell it on the on the site anymore. We have it in black blonde and this is auburn. Our newest color, we braid them up so to keep them straight in transit and it look. They look really nice when you unravel them too, so these are probably in 35-ish inches, which is really long, but i like to wear my braids long. Tell me a little bit about your synthetic recycling program and how that works back to the original story. I was wearing these braids and trying to figure out. If i was going to continue to wear my braids and try to live this low-waist lifestyle, then i was going to figure out a way to dispose of plastic synthetic hair and didn't find anything that was going to work. So we maintain that program as as part of the ethos of our brand, because one is really important to me. It also gives others an opportunity to participate in sustainability if they're not ready to make the switch to our plant-based products. So it's as simple as mailing it into us so that we can properly dispose of it. What would you say is the most rewarding thing about this whole experience for you, i love when people send us pictures or they write a review or they message us and they say thank you for creating this and for being here and for thinking of us, often As black women and consumers, we go ignored or unnoticed, and in this space this really is something that is really intimate and special to us, and our customers are recognizing us for that for for building this out for for them and for all of us. So i love when they when they just chat with us, they send us messages. What is next for you? What is in the future of rebundle? We estimate that there's nearly 30 million pounds of plastic synthetic hair that go to waste in the u.s alone, and so this is a global issue that we're really trying to tackle ahead on. And we see a future where we're able to significantly reduce those emissions and that plastic pollution, while also reducing the number of women who are exposed to toxic ingredients and personal care products. So working towards every day and and all the moving pieces are just enabling us to reach that that vision. Thank you so much for your time for coming and being here guys, you need to check out rebundle. It is better for your scalp, better for the environment and it looks gorgeous right.
