Hey family, it's a girl, T aka. The nappy headed jojoba here today with just a quick video. It'S gon na be quick, just a little tip, / hack, / technique for attaching beads to your braids or twists without using rubber bands. A lot of you guys have been saying that you, like my little protective style, that I've got going right now. Thank you so much for all the kind comments. It'S just you know your typical donut bun. As many of you guys know, I like to leave my edges out of it in terms of pulling my hair back 95 % of the time, because I don't really have edges so the little bit that I do have. I want to preserve and in leaving them out, I've been trying to come up with ways to keep it cute. Now I actually used to pretty much always have beads in my hair as a little girl when my mom was doing my hair and she would attach the beads not using rubber bands, but she would use tin, foil, that's right, tin, foil, to this day. I I still kind of can't believe she would do me like that, but luckily, at one point we stumbled across these little things that I have in my hair right now and you will see them more closely in a moment in the demo that allowed her to Secure the beads onto my braids without using rubber bands, because even when you get the no snag rubber bands, I just don't personally think that that's the gentlest way to secure beads. I really don't want to put rubber bands. In my hair I told her once I was old enough to tell my mom that I didn't want to walk around looking like an insane person with tin foil in my hair. My mom wound up finding these little things on Jamaica Avenue, I'm from Queens. In case you didn't know, she just found these little things at a beauty supply store in Queens. I was unable to find them in LA and I actually have already forgotten what they're called, but they are available on the Internet. Thank You Internet and they allow me to secure my beads on to what I have are flat twists here, not cornrows, because I am, I am cornrow challenged without using tinfoil and without using rubber bands. So, let's get into this demo, first off you're, going to need a beater tool. These generally come in the pack with the beads. Alternatively, you can use a latch hook or even a hairpin, which I prefer, because it snagged my hair less than the beater. Obviously, you're going to need some beads. These are some pretty wooden ones. I have. However, I don't like to use these because, as you can see the inside the opening of the bead, is there any jagged. I even see some splinters in there and I certainly don't want that on my hair instead I'll be using these plastic beads, there's a black one in sort of a antique brass looking situation. So this is what I'm gon na use and the piece de resistance is. This little gold leaf thingy. This is what I use to attach the beads and make sure they don't go falling off of my braids, I'm just getting some sealant on my ends. Just reapplying. My ends had already been sealed, but I was just adding a little bit more because I'm anal retentive - and Here I am just showing you guys how you can use a latch hook to attach beads to your hair. If you don't have a beater or if you're like me, and you just don't like those cheap plastic beaters that always get caught on my hair, now that the beads are on I'm ready for my little goldleaf thingy and I just need to wrap my ends around It like such as and just wind and wide now in this situation, I'm actually wrapping more hair around this one, but I would recommend this is because my two sides of my hair are uneven. My right side used to be shaved, so that hangs a lot shorter, and this is my left side that I'm showing you so I need to fake it being shorter than the other, so I've wrapped all the hair on and now all I have to do is Bend the leaf booyah and again, I don't recommend putting this much hair on there, but I'm trying to fake a shorter length. So once that's done, you just slide the beads down and make sure you have beads that are not too large and they're opening for the leaf, and they will stay just like this. I also feel like this looks a lot nicer than the rubberband necklace, just showing you again now on my right side, which is my shorter side, so I won't need to wrap as much hair around the gold lead. So I probably did the last inch and a half to two inches of my hair fold it over and just like on the other side, and it folds a lot easier because there isn't too much hair jammed on it. And then you slide the beads down to cover that up and a Z, we're good, really really simple. I like that, unlike with the rubberband method, not only am i avoiding that rubberband potentially damaging the very ends of my hair, I'm also keeping the ends of my hair stretched by wrapping them around the little goldleaf thingies, and I actually really like having the beads on The ends of my hair, because one they help to elongate my hair, a bit which helps to keep it more stretched and two. It is literally protecting my ends, which is great because we're gon na protect your ends challenge you know. My ends are completely concealed inside the beads on the last inch to two inches, which is nice. But that's it just a quick tip for those of you who were looking for a way to secure beads to braids or twists and didn't want to use rubber bands. Because I can't take credit for this tip, this is again my mom's idea. She did it on my hair when I was a little girl, and I just couldn't find these little thingies that I needed at any beauty supply source here in LA. Nor could I find other options for attaching beads to braids without using rubber bands, because I did do some googling and I didn't really find anything, and that is why I wanted to make this video in case someone else maybe was searching for a way and wasn't Finding any ideas for me what it came down to was going back to an old idea, my mom's idea and just actually being able to hunt down the little doohickeys that I needed to achieve it. That is going to do it for this one, but thank you. So much for watching, I hope this was helpful and I will see you guys in the next video Baba, nappy-headed Asura

Adia Sabur: Thank you so much for posting this! I searched for this about a year ago and I could find nothing about "without rubber bands". I just braided my daughter's hair last night and I finally came up with an ingenious way. I folded the ends back over the last bead and braided it back on to her hair to secure the beads... but Im good at braiding the little bitty short ends to give as much length as possible. I would love to try your little doo-hickeys! Where did you get them? I'm hoping that I can find something similar. I do have some little plastic balls with teeth in them that open and you can close them on the end but but they still slip off if you don't bunch a lot of hair in it. BTW.. I also do my best with maintaing my daughters edges..shes only 8 and was born with light edges just like yours.

Kiersten H: I'm definitely gonna try this out. My mom never really knew how to do my hair, so I never got any of the cute hairstyles as a kid, so I've been trying the adult versions of some of them for this project your ends challenge. Keep up the bomb ass work girl, and keep making it happen in March!

Host with Lauren: Thank you!!! I finally feel comfortable putting beads in my daughters hair. Her hair is so long and I didn’t want to do anything to break her hair off like the rubber bands.

Empress D: You are a hair-saver! Thanks for the tip. Definitely going to try this on my locs.

Caren White: My mom used tin foil as well. It was cool until we moved and I started going to an all white school. Then I got a relaxer and, the rest as they, is history.

Michelle Henriques: Yes, I remember the foil on ends all too well but it’s what we had at the time. I’m so very thrilled to have found your channel showing a better way to secure beads onto hair. Thank you!

Ashley Sapp: Thank you so much for this video! I have only recently started twisting my daughter’s hair (she’s 15 months), and I’m still struggling to get the strands to stay twisted (especially at night… she refuses to keep the bonnet on, and rarely stays on the pillow). If I do a flat twist, they stay fine, but those mini twists are stubborn, and I have to retwist come morning. Her hair also shrinks like crazy, so two birds with one stone… we “need” the bead. But I would never put a rubber band in her hair, so I was on the hunt for how to do it. I knew there had to be a way, and up comes your video. Thank you! I’m wondering if bread ties would do in a pinch? I feel like after the ends are twisted about it, and the tie is folded, it could mostly be tucked inside the beads… creative juices are flowing. Will be testing that theory soon.

Betty Ann Washington: Thank you! I'm thrilled to have found your video because I've wanted to add beads to my sisterlocs for a long time. I just looked up the fold over pinch bails and found them!! What a terrific idea your mom found instead of elastics! Have a blessed day!

Felicia Felicia: Fold over pinch bails. Used for beading and securing irregular items or shapes

jrblue2: My twists always unravel and I've been looking for a solution that's better than waiting for the ends of my hair to dry in clips. This is a great help, Thanks!

Mikhail Haile: Great video! I’ve been planning to purchase both beads & leaf bails for quite some time and it would be highly appreciated if you could inform me of ur bead hole size. I currently have beads with a hole size of 10 mm and overall size of 20mm in my cart. The bails I plan to purchase are 30 mm X 6mm and I’m not sure if the sizing of the beads and bails are compatible. Please help!

Neon Kuma: LOL! My mom had me with the tin foil too! My beads were still poppin tho, foil and all. Couldn't tell me nothin when I had them in. Finished the vid: so helpful!! definitely doing this sometime soon!

imperial diamond: I’m going to do a faux fringe on my sisterlocks using this method. Thank you for sharing.

Tracey-Ann Brooks: I can't believe that u made a video perfectly tailored to my dilemma and at the exact time I wanted to know. I typed this in search and you came up. This only further confirms why I'm subscribed to you. Keep the great videos coming!

Chibi-Berry: I got to hunt some of these down!! I was watching your beads in the last video and was thinking about my childhood and the sound of beads while walking down the hall in elementary school. Thank you for the reminder/update on an old style all grown up version. Lol and yes it was very helpful!!

TheEagleslover: Haha, omg the foil gang game was strong. I, too, hate rubber bands. This is much simpler and I will definitely be getting some. Happy Friday everyone and have a good weekend.

alleycatfire: Ohhh tin foil beads! I REMEMBER! I was the only Black girl in my elementary school for a few years (and one 3/4 at the most) ... so the tin foil, Poetic Justice styles, box braids, and Bantu knots was an experience I didn't appreciate at the time I love this little tool! Thank you!!

betje87: This is brilliant! I will surely look for them! I never saw these before!

Imani Monay: Currently watching this while I have rubber-bands in to secure my beads lol. This is a better & safer way!

TheNitaapplebaum: This is brilliant and cute! Yes, my mom used the foil too girl.

Cooking with Sugga Mama: I also used tin foil for my son's beads when he was younger but I would use it to slide the beads on and then I would remove the foil and secure them with a rubber band. It was really easy I must say, also fast.

Vern Milliken: Thank you. I needed this so much. I have been looking for a solution for my daughter’s hair. She loves the beads, but I don’t like the rubber bands.

Drummel: Great trick! I don't have much hair on my head, but I was able to take advantage of this concept for my beard. Thank you very much!

Jessica Mendoza: omg I love this definitely will help with the breakage on the ends of the hair

Nikki Adams: I just tried this on my own hair. Thank you for this tip! I hope to leave these in for 2 or 3 weeks.

Lovebaby19802: Thank you so much for this! Great idea! Im going to purchase some.

Sumaiyah Leonard: Wow this is so helpful

Caramel Submerged: Thank you for sharing this! I will seek these out! Such a great idea!

mymiracle79: I grew up putting foil on my beaded braid too, I'm in my 40's. This new product is so cute I have to look it up on the internet. Thank you.

Punky ReggaeParty: Extremely helpful. My LOs end's thank you and your innovative Mother. Stay well.

Leshanna Bindah: Thank you for this. Excellent idea

Miko Mo: Wow I totally forgot about my tin foil days! Thanks for bringing back that memory! ❤

Medi Cogglet: Wow! I used these years ago, thanks for the reminder!!! I'm going to try using these alone cause my hair is low density!

The1Band1Wagon: I love the leaf thingys! Great video!

CocoaBananas23: Thank you for sharing (and thanks to your mama as well lol). Definitely didnt know it was an alternative to rubber bands for securing beads.

atribitt: Genius. Never seen or heard of this helpful accessory!

Hila Tukurian: Very cute forgot about leaves & miss beads. Helpful vid, thanks

Katrina Lark: Yay. Love this!! Thank you to to you and your mom. Gettin these now

Cameron Gray: Wow. I forgot all about my foil days. Hated it when the foil would come loose and I'd have beads everywhere.

Alexandra Marie G.: I would like to say bless your heart!!! My daughter is still fairly young but we are of Caribbean Heritage (in Brooklyn, NY) and she will eventually have to wear beads in her hair too. She will have to go through the rite of passage of inadvertently smacking herself in the face with a head full beads. I would have spared her the foil (unlike us) and go to the rubber bands but I will just use these leaf bails. SO THANK YOU!!! (On her behalf LOL)

Winter Moon: Don’t give up on your pretty wooden beads! You can get rid of that jagged mess inside the the bead hole by using a needle file. They sell 12 piece sets on Amazon, Walmart, etc., for about $7. I use them for making jewelry and they smooth out beads really well. I’ve also used them to soften leather on the inside of thick leather boots where they’re rubbing on seams at the ankle, heal or toe.

Kade Jordyn: Thank you sooo much for this video! My mom used something similar, but I have never been able to find them. I honestly thought I imagined it. LOL

Ali Wil: I love your videos...you are so funny and informative!!

Maish Ward: Great! So what is the name of the little thing you used to hold the beads in place?

Impeccably Fit T: I had no idea these even existed. Purchasing for sure. Thanks

Beth Burrell: Anyone know what these are called or have a link to the product? Having a hard time finding them. Thanks!

Ema Klementova: Your hair looks so beautiful

Kadian Housen: Wow!!!! I must find these!!! I bead my hair all the time

beautifulgorgeousone: Thank you infinitely for this!☺️✌

Reanna Richardson: My mom did the same using foil at the ends when I was a kid.

Veta Knox: Thank you for this video I never knew... you have changed the game for me

qtb777: That looks beautiful and it does look alot nicer

Lori Watson: I used sandpaper to smooth the inside of the wooden beads, and they glide through the braids or twists without snagging your hair

dabomb4: Those beads are beautiful

Sophia Ohlone: So cool cause I’m getting my hair done on Friday so I’m going to tell the lady to do you like you can love you

Juanita Richardson: Good content! Thank you!

LT Gemini: Yeeesss! I forgot abut the aluminum foil. I was in the foil gang for many years.

DD: Amazon is out of the little gold leaves but I found some silver ones! Ordering now!

Peachi Fluid Acrylic Art Designs: Thanks, I've never seen these. I will be using these.

kendratree: That was so cool, thank you for sharing! Where can we order these?

Matías Brown: Hi !! What would you recommend to replace the rubber bands on the braids for a man ? Or if it's some way to close it without that. Thanks

Mama_bro_bro: Yes I remember tin foil being used too!

lisa k: This lewk is everything

Tierra Wilcox: Lol!! BigUp to Queens,NY (Laurelton)massive! I too had to rock the foil tip beads as a little girl. Got in trouble if the foil and beads fell out

Sarah Dawson: We used foil too... I couldn't remember how to install though

Kee Kee: Cool and yes I too grew up with the aluminium foil ends of my beads.. Lol

On My Own Terms: My mom used foil too smh. Other kids would be like "Do you know you have foil in your hair?" I'd get sooo mad lol

Its Me: First of all, HEY ISLAND GYAL!! lol, I knew it! My family is from Trinidad and they too lived in Brooklyn! I am wondering, can the gold leaves be reused? I want to try them out on my kids

Belle: Moms are good like that! Great tip! Thanks!

veda83ren: My mom used sliver foil too!

C.A.S.XCII.: Hey! Thanks for sharing! Do you know where I can find these or similar ones? TIA!

Randomly Kimberly: It’s a little extra but maybe you could use the skinny finger nail drill bit to smooth the inside of the wooden beads and then paint inside with clear nail polish (clean) variety

Anitra Brown: GIRL! My mom did the tin foil thing too lol

Shareia Heard: My mom told me that my gma used tin foil too! I asked my mom how can I put beads in my daughter's hair w/o rubber bands.

Alex Q: I cackled at the nappy headed jojoba! My hubby didn’t get it . I just wanted to say , I love the information , I love your makeup , and I vibe with your voice…so soothing.

Musik216: You have a new sub from St. Albans!! Thanks for the tip and the link. Amazon had 3 left and i bought all 3

Geri Miller: I had my own childhood tinfoil flashbacks(lol) when my cousin would cornrow my hair and add beads back in the 70s/early 80s...that and the beads flying off if I whipped my head back and forth too fast(or ran, or did a cartwheel, or jumped rope...). Those little stoppers are also a lot cuter than the foil too.

Ladie E's Lounge: Really cute!! Is that a donut to shape your bun? When I see a hairstyle like yours with the beads, I can't help but think of that episode of Good Times when Thelma was going to marry Ibe, that Nigerian who was a polygamist. Ahh, the 70's. LOL

D Walker: How cool is that thank you for sharing

MaiAngel: Jamaica Queens in the house!! Aluminum foil! We all been there!! And I have the same exact wooden crochet hook!

Katrina Longley: Super cute!!

dee MAVERICK: Oh yeah I remember those beading enders....not really sure what they are called. Thanks!

The Key To Life Tarot: Jamaica Ave native, I’m about to head there now and try to get it because I really disliked using rubber bands. Thank you for this!!!

yellohcards: Yup my nana used tinfoil on my hair too. I totally forgot about that

Katy Sam: I like the way you do it where I come from in Guatemala we use It but beads goes in different cultures

K o E Kardaci: Sis, 0:50 had me weak. Love you. Love your Share. ❤

Jay Jay: Yet another useful video- thank you. I don't understand the tinfoil thing, can someone explain?

Ella Sels: where do u get these beads i can only find clear ones

Theresa Lubin: How do I find the beads?

supermufasa21: You had me weak talking about the foil

Stiletto Shay: LOL! I remember using that good ol' Reynolds Wrap! About how many uses do you get out of the gold leaf? (I feel like it would break in half after so many uses.)

ladaphne Vlogs: I'm using foil in my daughter's hair right this second. The rubber band way was hard and I don't have the tool u mentioned. I will look for it.

Gathering Bleu: This is a game changer!!!!

XxQueenxiexX: *I have that exact same beader*

dd: Can you please, tell me where i can get some of the little clips?

Callie M: Can you reuse these?

Feenominal fee: my mom used foil and i still dont get the concept of how it stayed.. magic of growing up in the 90s
