Hey guys for today's video we are going to do a basic braid video, i'm going to show you how to do the simplest most basic braid do so. I hope this helps you um. So let's go ahead and get started, so i have done a video that i'll link up here and it's basic dutch braid hairstyles like just a regular dutch braid, a dutch fishtail, a french braid and a french fishtail. So this video is inspired by a comment that someone left on one of my videos and they had asked. Basically, how do you even do a three strand braid and that hit home to me, because no one taught me how to braid my mom was actually a hair stylist when i was growing up and she never taught me how to do hair. I taught myself how to do hair. I didn't know how to do hair um until i was like 19 years old, and that's because i just teach myself. I would watch youtube videos and sit in front of my mirror and practice and practice, and it didn't happen overnight. It took months of learning, but eventually i got the hang of it and if i can do it, you guys can too so the first braid is going to be a rope braid a rope braid is so easy and there's just so many different variations. You can do with a rope braid, but today it's just a basic one: we're just gon na do a side, one okay, so you're gon na gather your hair to the side. You'Re gon na split your hair into two sections: you're gon na take your outer section and you're gon na twist it away from your face so you're gon na twist it this way, so i'm just gon na take it and twist it around my finger away from My face now we're going to take this section that we just twisted and we're going to bring it over and cross it over this inside section, so just cross it. So now we need to twist this section. This is a section we're always going to twist. So i'm going to take this section, i'm going to twist it away from my face twist it this way so just twist it around your finger and then i'm going to take that back section cross it over my front section and again we're only crossing this back Section and i'm going to twist it away from my face and then i'm going to cross it over that inside section. Take the back section twist it away from your face, face cross it over that inside section. Take the back section twist it away from your face cross it over that inside section. Take the back section cross it away from your face cross it over the inside section, and you just do this all the way down once you reach the end, just tie it off with a hair tie once you do this, it should not unravel if it unravels. You did not do it correctly, you can see mine didn't unravel. It looks like this okay, so our next braid is going to be a three strand braid, i'm sure a lot of you know how to do a three strand braid when i was 19 and learning how to braid. I had no idea how to do a three strand braid and that one was honestly the most complicated for me to figure out, so this one is dedicated for those who don't know how to do a three-strand, braid. Okay, put your hair to the side. You'Re gon na split your hair into three strands, so i have one strand my middle strand and then my inside strand looks like this. So i'm going to take my outside strand this one and i'm just going to cross it over that middle strand. Then i'm going to take my inside strand, i'm going to cross it over that middle strand. I'M going to take that outside strand, i'm going to cross it over that middle strand. Take your inside strand cross it over that middle strand, so we're just crossing our outside sections over our middle section again. Take your outside strand cross it over that middle strand. Take your inside strand cross it over that middle strand, and someone got mad at me in a video saying i interchange section and strand, and it is what it is. Okay, so take that outside section cross it over that middle section. Take the inside section cross it over the middle section. Take the outside section cross it over the middle section. Take the inside section cross it over the middle section. Take your outside section cross it over your middle section. Take your inside section cross it over the middle section, so just keep crossing your outside sections over your middle section, and you do this all the way down, and it should look something like this: if there's any braid, you should know how to do it. It'S definitely a three strand braid. I do three strand braids literally all the time. This is a must. Okay, next one is a fishtail. A fishtail took a lot of practice. This was one of the most complicated braids for me to learn how to do, but once i mastered it, i mean the first couple tries was not pretty. Let me tell you once i mastered it. It was a game changer for my braiding skills. They just took off after that, so i have faith that they'll take off for you too, all right. So what you're gon na do is you're gon na put your hair to the side and you're gon na split it into two sections: two even sections, so i'm gon na start with my outside section. So this section right here and i'm just gon na take a small strand from that outside section see this small strand. I just took off i'm going to hold on to that outside section, but i'm going to take that strand and i'm going to cross it over. So here's the strand and into that inside section, so i'm just adding it in now with that inside section, i'm taking off a small strand of hair, i'm going to take that small strand and i'm going to cross it over into the opposite section, and you just Keep repeating so you're kind of like making x's all the way down an x motion so again take that outside section we're going to slice off a small strand from it hold on to it. Take that small strand and cross it over into the opposite section. Take that inside section slice off a small strand, take that strand cross it over into the opposite section. So again, take the outside section slice off a small strand. Take that small strand cross it over into the opposite section. Take your inside section slice off a small strand. Take that small strand cross it over. Add it into the opposite section, and you do this all the way down so i'll. Do it one more time, take your outside sections, slice off a small strand, you're going to take that strand and you're just going to cross it over and add it into that opposite section. Okay, so here is what my fishtail looks like looks so cool. I love fishtails. I think they are just the coolest braid, so i just started doing my four strand braids a little bit differently than i normally do them. But let me show you how okay so just divide your hair into four sections like you normally would? Okay, so here are my four sections: i'm gon na start with my inside section, i'm gon na cross it over the section that it's next to i'm going to take my outside section, i'm going to cross it under the section that it's next to and then over That next section now we're back to the inside section and take the inside section, and we just repeat so: take the inside section cross it over and then go to the outside section and you're going to cross it under and then over now we're going to go Back to the inside section, we're going to cross that over and then we're going to take our outside section cross it under and then over go back to that inside section cross it under the section it's next to and then take that outside section cross it under The section it's next to and then over take the inside section cross it over the sections. Next, to take your outside section cross it under the section it's next to then over, take the inside section cross it over. Take the outside section cross it under and then over take the inside section cross it over. Take your outside section and then cross it under and then over one more time. Take your inside section cross it over. Take your outside section, cross it under and then over just like to go in and just kind of pinch and pull the outside sections make. It look a little bit fuller, so that is it. I think i'm going to wear the four strand braid today. Let me know if you try these. If this is helpful, more than happy to do another back to basic series, just let me know what kind of braids you want to see. Um, but yeah, don't forget to like subscribe, leave a comment, and i will see you guys in my next one mwah bye,

Charu Shekhar: Love them! I love the fishtail braid <3 It's my number one favorite braid

Althea Winchester: Thank you Lainey, I'm growing my hair after years of sporting a pixie hairstyle, my hair is now shoulder length and you've really helped me with your tutorials. I've received many positive comments on my braids and that's all thanks to you. Have a beautiful day and thank you so much for taking time out to teach!

Andrea: I love how pretty your highlights look in the braids. Thank you for explaining the details so slowly and thoroughly.

starbucksmocha88: This is exactly the kind of video that I would have been so grateful to find back when I didn't know how to braid at all!! Even though I already learned the basics through your other videos this is a great resource. Also... same about the fishtail braid, I feel like my skills went up a level after I mastered that! One I use a lot is actually just a 3 strand dutch side braid. Once I realized you just cross the outer stands under the middle and it does a different look... game changer for me hehe

Kimberly Benedict: So beautiful! You are so talented! I used to do the fishtail braid on my daughter all of the time. To me it was the easiest one.

D Jones: THANK YOU! You're such a great teacher! I've been able to do all but the 4-strand until this video. You explained it perfectly Love all the styles you do, especially the braids.

Rebecca Telgenhoff: Lainey, I absolutely love the Herringbone braid and the 4 strand braid also. I need to master the 4 strand but sometimes I get confused when I should be going over and under the hair. Thanks for explaining what sections of hair go under and over. This helps me a lot in my braiding technique.

Jennifer Kezar: I feel you! My mom was also a hair stylist but never taught me how to do my own hair. But you have helped me so much, and the three strand braid was by far the hardest easy thing to learn

La Niche TN: Sooooo glad someone is taking time to cover the basics. My Mom had really short hair all of her life so she never taught me the basics. Thank you!

Lil T: You are brilliant at showing how to do braids, you make it look so easy x

AdamsFamilyGarden: Wow Thank You So Much So Helpful and you explained everything so thorough, Thank you ❤️

Amanda Hales: Finally a tutorial in real time by the person who is wantin 2 braid hair on themselves, simple instructions hands out the way so we can c wot is happenin. Thank u so much 4 doi this xxxxx

Sabrina: Thank you so much!!! Finally I can learn the basics

Paris Danielle: Omg I just learned how to do a rope braid. I am obsessed with it. Thank you for doing a tutorial. You are the best hair tutorial YouTuber ever I always thought it was so hard but when i tryed it it was so easy

elvoraway: Thank you for this videoI’ve been struggling with the rope braid. By the way, I love your jacket❤️

Donna Bozkurt: Thank you. Love the fishtail

MELODY 4 YOU: Back to basics is good idea. Even tho I do it myself with a long long hair i can learn maybe new techniques or tricks. Thank you

Phoebe Harris: Love them all the fishtail braid looks beautiful my favourite

Mari Mullen: This was great thank you so much!

Brenda McLean: So awesome! You have gorgeous hair!

Arras10: Basic braids are always cute

terri conner: My rope braid always unravels if I twist the sections, but not if I just two strand braid, suggestions? You’re the first that I’ve found to mention unraveling…you’re the best! Quick question on another video as I don’t do Instagram, do you put anything on your face BEFORE you shave? Got my razors & new hair ties…love the ties…patiently waiting on your reply to try the face razors…thanks

Hermine Nazari: Beautiful

Amanda Bourland: Beautiful braids, I saw on Instagram a video where they use a coke can the long skinny one, and they put a piece of hair and put it in the can. Hold it and use a blow dryer to heat it and you're supposed to get curls. This sounds interesting, I'd love to see you try it, since you like to curl your hair.

Freetheppl: Quick question Lainey. What kind of oil do u put in ur hair at night? BTW Love ur channel & new subbie! Thanks!

touili bilel: I like to braid my mom's hair in different styles after showering to get wavy hair the next morning

Véronique S: I would like to see all those from the back of the head. You’re doing it on yourself but in the back. For some reason I can’t transfer from side to back without seeing someone do it. Thanks!

Olive U: Do you think that you could do some more braided updos for back to school?

Nazat Sakellaropoulou: There is a braid, it's not exactly a braid, and I don't know what they call it. Usually we often see it done on a horse tail when he competes or when he runs in horse races or horse shows!!! I've seen it in many hair videos and it's gorgeous, but like I said I don't know the name ☹️ I'm sure you know which braid I'm talking about. if you have the kindness to make the braid in a video of you!!! Thank you very much Hugs and kisses to you and your family from Greece ❤️

Sarmin Ali: Love from India
