-The thing, I'm most afraid of is change a little bit.. I usually always wear like really boring hairstyles., I'm excited, but also a little nervous, because I've never had two-tone color before. Hi, I'm Asya and today I'm getting to two-toned box braids.. But before you see my transformation subscribe below.. The inspiration for today's look is the Queen Bey Beyoncé for sure.. I really admire like how she switches it up all the time.. I have thought about getting two-toned box braids before, but I just never had that actual push.. I'Ve always just been a one-tone person, just wear my hair black all the time. So this is a new stage of me being more free and trying out new styles, so that I can you know at that pop of color and edge. -Good morning.. How are you So nice to meet you. Hi, I'm Evalyn., I'm a freelance hairstylist here in Los Angeles., I'm known for goddess braids, very small braids, medium-size braids braids braids braids.. Tell me a little bit about your hair. -I've been natural over five years., -Oh wow.. I got some two-toned hair set up for you right here, so I'm ready when you are. -I'm ready. -You want to go -Yes. -Alright. Let'S do it. Do it. To start off. I section the client's hair from ear to ear.. Then I tie up the top of her hair and then I begin the back.. I start from the nape all the way up to the crown in subsections. -I've, always loved protective styles, and I've been getting box braids like forever. Since I was a kid. -We're going to do, knotless today. Have you ever had them knotless before -No, I haven't.. I always just had the traditional box. Braids. -Knotless braids are box braids., It's just one has a knot. One doesn't. Today I chose to do slanted boxes instead of the traditional box.. I thought it would be fun for her.. I wanted to keep it interesting for Asya.. The parting's a little bit medium-sized boxes to medium-sized braid.. I take three small sections of the two-tone colored hair and then I feed it into her natural hair and I braid it all the way down to the tips. ♪♪ ♪♪. Today, on Asya we used the RastAfri brand., The color was FS27/613. Once the hair is fully braided all the way down to the tips. I begin to boil the hot water. As that's boiling, I'm going to mousse her hair from root to tips.. Then I'm going to spray her hair with leave-in conditioner., Then I'm going to oil, her scalp and then from there I'm going to tie her edges down with edge control.. Then I'm going to dip her hair with the hot water.. I dip it about three different times to make sure it's sealed and it's not going to unravel.. Then I dry it with a towel.. After dipping her hair three times I go in and just taper the ends a little bit and make sure it looks as nice as possible. And then from there. I remove the wrap around her edges and then she's ready for her reveal., Okay, -Oh [, Laughs, ] -Wow.. This looks so good. -Yay -Dang.. I love love, love, love, love, love, my new hair., The parts are so precise and my baby hairs are laid right. And the length is beautiful. Like I'm in love.. -After care is probably one of the most important steps for long-lasting braids.. I like to tell all of my clients to make sure to oil. Their scalp put leave-in conditioner in their hair and wrap their hair at night.. Working with Evalyn was so good.. She was definitely very light-handed.. I can be tender-headed sometimes, but she was very gentle.. She made me feel very comfortable and she's very knowledgeable just about hair and how to maintain and make sure that my hair stays healthy.. I'M going to keep this look for about two months.. If I can go longer than that, I will try, but I'm not going to try to press it too hard.. I am going to show my hair off to my friends. -Oh [ Laughs, ] -Do. You see this color -Oh my God.. I love that color on you. -Channeling, my inner Beyoncé. [ Laughs ]. This look was very scary to me because I'm not used to getting color, but I feel so empowered to make change and to just do whatever I want to do and have fun.. Thank you. T Sp: Love how it turned out, but did anyone else tense up when she flipped her hair? I know they are knotless but my scalp screamed for her and took me back to a time when knotless braids weren’t a thing and it took 2 weeks for them to loosen up.

It makes me so sad to think of all the little girls..all the women that have ever felt a need to conform to something, or otherwise feel less than, putting all this beauty and potential to shine far brighter in comparison in a box, placed high on a shelf.
