Vinegar Rinsing On Kanekalon - Prep For Box Braids

Prepping Kanekalon hair for my box braids by rinsing in a vinegar soak. It is said that there is an alkaline coating on synthetic hair that can cause scalp irritation. So the vinegar rinse removes the alkaline coating.

Hey YouTube is Sherita 21 just coming to show you how I do the vinegar, rinse one Kanekalon here, I'm using this hair to install box braids, I'm just starting by filling my bathroom sink up with warm water. I am using plain old white vinegar, not apple, cider, vinegar and just put in about a splash in there. I'M just eyeballing it I'm not measuring anything out for real. Once I get the sink filled up with water, I just lay to bundle at a time in the water. I do smush it down a little bit. Squeeze it squish it a little bit just to make sure that all of the hair is down in the water and actually soaking in the water, and then I let it sit. You can already see immediately once you put the hair in the water that it starts to foam up and you get this residue lifting up to the surface, but I'm just going to let it soak for about 15 minutes now. This is about maybe five. Ten minutes later and you can see how it's like foamy, on the surface of the water, just from soaking, I'm just going to come in here, lift the hair up a little bit. Agitate it squish it around a little bit more just make sure that all the hair is coated and covered, maybe lift a little bit of the foam out of it and then soak it back in there. Whatever I'm just agitating it a little bit and then I'm just going to let it soak for about another five minutes here all right. So I come back about five minutes later and just go ahead and lift the bundles out of the water. It doesn't look like it changed much as far as the residue in the water, but either way I'm. I know it is thoroughly soaked now. This is a different brand of hair and a different color, but you can see here on. This is a number 27 and it is like way more residue, one, this one after soaking for 15 minutes. I think it just varies based off of the type of hair, maybe off of the bundles, but the number four hair that I had before did not have this much residue coming off of any of the bundles as these two bundles of this number 27. But it could very well be the brand either way that's what was left over. I place all of the bundles of hair on a hanger and hang them up in my shower, and then I just thoroughly rinse them all with warm water. I go through and spend some good time just rinsing through it front and back up and down I'm getting all through it. Squish them out rinse them some more on just to make sure that I have all of the foam or residue out of it in all of the vinegar water out of it and then after rinsing. I just let the hair hang in the shower overnight and that's all it takes to dry all right. So it's the next day the hair as dried. It is soft. You can still see that texture to it, um, just as if it was straight out of the pack. I'M only coming to show that, because I think when it gets wet, especially with the vinegar rinse, you might think that it would on change the integrity of the hair or the softness on it doesn't smell like vinegar, so it doesn't hold on to that smell. Oh, it's still as soft as it was coming straight out of the packet like I say you can still see the texture on it and everything um. Even the warm water water doesn't change that, so the hair is ready to go. I got five packs of number four and two packs of 27 um. I think these were 199 packs and these were $ 2.99, but either way I don't think, have enough hair, but we'll see how far this gets me at least to start, but I just want to just show you what the hair look like the next day after It had dried, it is completely fine and virtually in the same condition that it was out of the pack. So don't worry about your hair coming out, funny or being damaged in any way or the integrity of the hair, changing the quality of the hair or the feel of the hair changing as a result of the vinegar, rinse

Le-Le M.: Been doing this for 5 years!! It works!! Sometimes I put all of the bundles of braiding hair in and let them soak for an hour. I've tried bother White Vinegar and Apple Cider. They both work well

Hairouna Empress: Some packages do tell to wash hair before use but I'm glad you made this video to show people the importance of the washing /rinsing not doing this can cause irritation and like me excema and acne break outs

Cheyenne Nunn-Smith: Just an added tip, I used warm tap water and 2 cups of apple cider vinegar and it foamed up instantly if anyone needed any extra help

Kitara Wright: One of my many reasons for ceasing braiding was the sever irritation I experienced both on my scalp, my face and neck due to the hair. I just recently decided to put synthetic hair back on my hair again ( I became a mom of a boy and he likes to pull my hair out), so I am really happy to see that this will help alleviate the itching.

TKS93: If a salon gives you a dirty look for asking to use your own comb you may want to rethink patronizing them. I wish they would... lol. Especially since I got sores in my head as a young child because a lady's mom shared brushes and they had apparently had some type of infection. I trust NO one.

Eat Wellness Kitchen: Thanks! Preparing to do my daughter’s hair for school. Very helpful video! God bless!

Amber -: Thank you! I'm getting my hair braided for the first time soon and I was worried that I might have an allergic reaction. Thank you for the how-to! :)

Jennifer Booker: Thanks for being detailed and mentioning that it doesn't smell like vinegar and the texture is the same as coming out of the pack

ColeRae TV: Thanks for posting. You saved me from having to go to the store and buying ACV. I figured regular vinegar would have the same cleansing power but needed confirmation. Ha. It is working juat like the video! I am excited about being irritation free!

GlacierGem💎: Yass! Getting my hair braided next month and I will be doing the exact same regimen!

April Denice: I got box braids for the first time last summer an i only wore them a few days cause my scalp was so irritated but after seeing this I may try && get box braids again thanks for the tip!!!

Marie Moore: Thank you for this tip.:-) I've been a broader for 20+ years and I never have heard of this rinse. I myself and my clients experienced the itch and could figure out what helped the itch. we have tried braid sprays and hair oils that only calmed the itching never relieving it for good. this tip I will try, thank you so much

fifi C: I was due to have braids for summer and usually my scalps itches so much it’s unbearable but I love braids... cheers for the video will def be doing this now on

Mahogany Coy: I had a client who face was swollen from this hair. She had a reaction to Xpressions but not to the other braiding hair. Its so crazy that we have to do this with hair. I may have to do this with all the hair now even bundles

jaebee75: Thanks for this video. I had crochet braids installed last month and I had a nasty rash on my neck and ears within 3 days. I bet it was that alkaline coating on the hair. I will try this coaching method so that I can try crochet braids yet again!!!

anjanae00: Thanks Hunn!! Will do! No wonder my head be itching like crazy!

Caryn D Prescott: Thank you Shyreeta for this video. I want to get faux locs with 2 strand twists using Marley Kanekalon hair and synthetic Viveca hair for the wraparound. I'm glad I watched this. Your technique is sweet

Quivvy Quiv: Thank you for this video. I washed the synthetic hair I purchased this evening. And when I tell you all the white film that came off that hair. The water was so gray and murky. YUCK! I let it soak for an hour ‍♀️.. Getting my hair braided on a couple of days. Praying this works.

Flairelle: Wow all that foam. So good that people are doing this now.

Shawn Plus One: I always wash my braids but never knew about the vinegar. Synthetic hair always makes my neck and scalp itch next time I'll try vinegar to wash them.

Brianna Whittington: Thank you for this tutorial, I tried this at home at it worked.

Nekoboys Toys and Dolls: I wish I had seen this before getting braids. Maybe then I wouldn't had got the irritation and sores on part of my scalps. I thought I reacted to the wax but this could actually be the reason as I usually never react to hair products/dye/bleach. Will try this on a kanekalon pack I have.

Huldah Pierre: I'm rinsing my xpressions hair tonight! So tired of itching with a super cute hairstyle.

Dee: This process is actually the best. Since I now soak my braiding hair before braids, I no longer have any itch or scalp irritation. I make this a priority to soak the hair in acv diluted with water.

Crystol Brown: Good video. Straight to the point. Thank u!

Samantha Watson: Thank you for this.. my cousin sent me here cause im ready to rip my scalp off after 3 days of braiding! This definitely wasn't done back n the day

LuvLiLyn: I needed this. I got box braids and my scalp, neck, and face was itching like crazy. Only kept it in for 4 days. Im gonna try this

Kendra Brevard: it works I used it on my braids just like you did

Mark: Wow, this was so helpful- thanks!

Marie Marie: Thank you for this vid... made my stomach ache... I'm about to install my braids... my bundles are in the sink now!!

Ashley M.: Glad for this video. I got box braids for the first time and broke out. Ill do this to the hair before next time

Rose Pitts: I never used to do this and I've been braiding my hair since 2001. I tried a new brand of hair the Xpressions and my head was itching like crazy did not know why. I google and found out about alkaline coating on braiding hair. My first time hearing this and it happening to me. I"m going back to my other brand of hair, but I'm going to finish the bags of Xpressions and I did the apple cider vinegar soak and I'll see how that works.

Slay CJ: Getting Senegalese twists on Saturday. I will be doing this technique because I had to remove my twists after 2 weeks last time. I was really ready to remove them after 4-5 days.

Angie P.: I wonder if any braiding salons do this. Some salons I've been to give dirty looks when you ask them to even use your OWN COMB, so I wonder what will happen when you ask them about this

Leverne Brown: Thanks for filming beginning to end. Verizon helpful !

Michael Khabbaz: never seen better rinsing in my life, keep up the top stuff.. rinse on rinse strong

Tricia Richards: Thanks for the information so much would definitely be using this advice.

BlossomFlowerXoxo: Thank you very much ! I couldn't figure out why the hell my head was itching like it was on fire when i install this type of hair.... Wow Thanks you saved me !

mzdetroit71: This what I do all of the time..Before installing my braids..

Angel Pppppp: Ok cool now,I know why my head was itching bad lol Thank You !

Leslie Newman: Thanks so much, i was wondering how long to dry the hair and if blowdrying was an option. After you braided your hair, did you still have to hot soak the hair to set it?

Angela Graham: I will definitely use this method!

DOZFAM: This process works

Jessica Yates: Does the hair feel a bit funny when you first remove it from the vinegar? I'm worried about my hair because it doesn't feel soft anymore but, it has not dried yet.

Millie Hamudulu: I’m upset I didn’t do this I always Wondered my my scalp itches so bad. Just gonna have to suffer through the next couple days like a champ and remember this for next time

HolidayErotica DesiredTemtation: PEOPLE THINK I AM CRAZY WHEN I SAY I CLEAN BRAIDING HAIR BEFORE USE GLADE TO SEE A LIKE MINDED PERSON

Kaligurl Smith: Very good video... I'm a braider & never knew of this technique, I guess its time for a refresher course lol but what I want to know is do you have to let it dry over night or can u blow dry it then use it or if u can rinse & use right after b4 u let it dry? Please answer back ASAP, Thanks!!!

B3auty_Unleashed: I just soaked some The Sassy collection synthetic braid I got from Sally's for 30 minutes and I didn't get any residue at all. I don't know if that means there were no alkalines or that I did it wrong.

Miss Whoever You Are: Thanks for this! This may be a silly question but did you comb out the hair at all after the rinse? Or once you let it air dry, was tangling not an issue?

shimmer jewels: hi, thank you for this video, I've had the same problems with braid hair, you don't wash the hair with shampoo after your using the vinger rince?

Venessa O.: Thanks for this video. It’s appreciated!

mrenei05: Will the process of dipping the hair and sealing it with fire cause damage to your real hair?

e: This is a good idea. The synthetic hair is made from chemicals and this will rinse off some of the chemical residue. When diluted vinegar dries it doesn't leave a smell. I don't bother rinsing vivica fox brand kanekolin hair. But now the vivica fox hair comes in three very different looking packs. So im not sure if some packs are fake in that case i may have to rinse.

Abbi Williams: this was awesome! thank you!

glad heart: great and through video thanks, will handle this tonight

Sharon Brown: i have never known or had anyone who braided my hair EVER tell me to clean the hair! I have had awful break outs and outrageous itchiness to the point of pimples filled with puss!!! I was told many times to get an anti itch spray or rub this on your scalp act and to no avail I had to take out the braids.Had my own hair braided all was fine, decided to add fake hair so all my hair is 1 length, needless to say i took all the braids out. But to all who do any fake hair to anyones head PLEAsE tell them to clean the hair first! Thanks for you video and education:~)

Fatima P Tina: Thank you, I hope so too I had no idea. Not that I'm an avid braider but it's good to know for future when I do get my hair braided.

DeWanda Allen: Thank you I'll try it next time I braid my hair again

MissPinkBerry W: Thanks so much for sharing the steps much appreciated I'm gonna do that for my moms hair. See if that's why her scalp itch so much

Nordic ET HighlyFAVORED!!!: Thank you. I appreciate this.

Albany Flowers: Thank you so much!! I never knew this!!!

Cookie muffin: Continue to be beautiful and smart. Thanks for the info.because I love my protective styles!

KaShanda Johnson: hi luv, great video, I have been braiding my hair for years and have never seen to do this, I've always thought it was just me having an extra sensitive scalp!! I've been paying a pretty penny for human hair so I don't break out!! thanks for the video, but one question, can you do this to prebraided twists?? I'm getting crochet Senegalese twists and to save time I'll be buying the pre twisted hair, does this work or will it unravel??

Britney Wagoner: Can you apply this technique to the hair when it's installed?

MeSeXXXygIgI: i ALWAYS use apple cider vinegar HOWEVER i have a BIG BOTTLE of white vinegar so I think imma try it with white or i might buy a big jug of apple cider from the store i been doing this since last year i had a BADDDDD reaction to some braid hair had me pull that hair outta my head 2days after i got it done OH LORD that hurted! i let mine soak in kitchen sink with ALL 8-12 packs over night NO MORE scratchin for me NOPE!

Sidney Denise: Do you think this would work for crochet hair?

Paulette Smith: can you also do this for the marley braiding hair?

Jwa Star: out of all the videos I found urs was the most helpful! thank u!

mzdetroit71: yes this the method I always do before I stalling

Andleen Jo: Great video

shanyha richardson: thanks for the tips
