That'S not good.. This wire is completely severed and we need to replace it.. So in order to get this working again, there's an easy replacement.. You have a couple of options.. One is to splice the wires together, but a safer and easier option is to replace the jack on the end., So I'm going to get rid of that and bring in one of these.. Now this is a three-pronged outlet, it's a replacement and it makes it really easy to put any wire into it and get things working, again., There's no tape, involved., There's no soldering involved and it's a really simple fix.. So all I need to do is take a part like this, which you can purchase at the hardware store for $ 2 without a ground or $ 3 with the ground.. Now this kind originally actually did not have a ground.. So this is just a two wire one, but I'll use the three wire one to show you how this works.. So in order to do this, I just need to open up the screw here or loosen the screw., And then I've got three plugs in here.. So one screw, the black goes on the brass., So I've got a black wire inside here that connects to the brass.. That'S my positive on the neutral.. I'Ve got the white wire inside here and that's going to connect it to the silver. And then, if you have a ground wire inside here, then you want to connect the ground to the green.. Since I don't have the green or the ground, I'm not going to worry about that., But the first thing we need to do is get this thing exposed, so we can attach the black and the white wires.. Now, technically, you can do pretty much this entire job with an Xacto knife or a pocket knife. I'm going to use a knife just to open up some of my sheathing just a little bit., I'm going to come up about an inch and a half or two Inches, maybe about 40 millimeters. And just start cutting through a bit of this sheathing here being careful not to go too much because I don't want to cut too far into the wires. And then, if I've got enough, I can start to peel back my wiring here And expose inside. I've got my white wire, which is my neutral and a black wire, which is my line or load. I'm going to cut off this extra.. We don't need that. And that can go away.. So now I've got these two.. Now, if you have a pair of wire strippers like this, that's the easiest way to go., So I can take some right there twist it around a bit and pop that off. Same thing over here. And again, you can just peel this back with a knife or An Xacto knife, or a blade like this if you need to, but you want to make sure to keep as many of the wires intact as possible.. So then, I'm going to twist these together just to make sure they all stay in good contact. I'll, create a slight hook or bend in each of these. And then just like I mentioned before we're going to do the black to brass and the white to silver.. Now, with these because they tightened to the right., We want to make sure to wrap these around in such a way. That it will actually pull them tighter. As you tighten the screws. In fact, I'll loosen that a little bit more like this., I'm going to be sure to tighten or place the wiring on in this direction coming from the left side.. That way, as I tighten it, it's just going to pull on those a little further. There. We go. And then same thing on this one., We'll loosen this up. Plenty of space in there., Put our neutral wire in on the left side and then tighten it down until I have a nice secure fit there.. I want to make sure there's good contact between the metal and the metal there. Now. If I had a ground, I would apply that to the green, but since I don't I don't have to worry about that.. There is a little receptacle for the screw here and the screw is right there in the middle.. So in this case I should be able to close this around it and then fit that screw in right in between the neutral and the line. Wires.. I'M going to tighten this up nice and tight.. Give that a pull to make sure it's really good. And that's it.. This wire is completely fixed and this cord can be used plugged, in. And I'm good to go.. Now again, you can purchase these for $ 2. At the hardware store or $ 3, roughly with a ground on them. I'll, put links in the description below.. If you want to order some of these or any of the tools that you saw here, today. Thanks for watching

joshx413: For safety. You should have a little more of a hook onto the screw. Makes it much less likely of it ever coming undone, or shorting

ODZK: Hey, you just saved my $100+ on a new vacuum. I have a practically new one and one of the outlet tines broke off. Perfectly explained. THANK YOU!

Paul Pritt: This is awesome! Thanks so much for making what I thought was a disaster a very simple fix!

Like A Fox: I was about to buy a new vacuum when I found this! You just saved me like $100! Thanks!

Petra Lisac: Thank you soooo much! I repaired it perfectly! This helped totally!

Mr. A.: Great video! Simple . I never have done this before. Thank you

ninjascr: Such a great video, and very helpful!

Sonia Alvarado: very easy to follow instruction, speaks clearly, like that you only need a few tools. good video

Cynthia Cook Robertson: Just saved me a few hundred dollars in a few minutes! Thank you!!

Lucky Joestar: 1:03 The black wire is not the “positive” because that’s not a DC connector. AC means that the polarity keeps switching direction. Half the time, the hot wire is negative, and the neutral is positive.

I follow Jesus: What a great video, thank you!

V S: Thank you for showing us all,how to repair and replace this. Take care.

Kathy Collins: Awesome thank you , hopefully I can safe my electric fireplace , but I'll need a 3 prong & thanks for saying the price & hope I can find one at the hardware store

253637zero2: Everyone should have a spare heavy duty plug like this so when this happen they don't need to drive one hour to the store to buy one. I like the one that rated 2000W which is enough for most home appliances I think.

Our Life: Thank you! It worked

Rask Guitars: Great video! Thanks for fixing my shop vac!

yukuhana: Tie a knot or some other measure to prevent pulling the wires off from the plug.

magic kiki: Great, thank you!

Rick F: Mine has no negative or positive. It's a simple two strand black wire with copper wiring inside on both sides. How do I tell polarity?

MissCookie8260: Had mine all tied in nice and still caught fire.

Luis Gomez: Awesome video thank u man

Mike R: Is it safe to use a 3 prong replacement plug with a 2 wire as you have shown in this video? I'm trying to replace my two prong cord, but I only have access to a 3 prong replacement. Thanks

Middle Cross Ranch: Are there any extension cord ends that actually look good after they’re on your cord, like the factory ones?

BRHSDeutschmeister: How do I do this if all three wires inside the cord are the same? They are all plastic coated and I see no difference. Please help. Thank you!

CardinalEgan: It's not a jack, it's a plug... and it's not an outlet either. The outlet is the receptacle in the wall. Also, strange that the original plug had a ground pin but no ground wire. Never seen that before...

kim ly: Thank you...subscribed

Christian Venditti: what if my whole entire wire snapped out?

Владислав: Замотать изолентой можно

michael canavan: extension cord now shows as grounded... when in fact it is not?

Bailey: If you guys have any auto related questions ask me I'm here to help so ask away!

Alexandra C: What if it's all copper?

Sontwisted: Wow i didnt know they made these

Chad: Is my cord supposed to rainbow at the prongs nothing seems wrong

OneLoneMan: How do you find the hot wire when they are both the same color?

Shondeezy p: What if both wires are brass?

Summer Li: Hi, friend. Are you interested in reviewing our led headlight bulb? I have sent an email to you, the subject is Boslla Headlight Collaboration. Hope to hear from you, thanks.

Sagacious Apotheosis BLM: Thank you

lisa rogo: Thanks

Austin Dycha: UK wire colour code the ground is green and yellow the neutral wire is blue and the hot/positive/live is brown

oldmercury: Waitasec... your original plug had an existing ground prong -- but yet there was no ground wire attached or even present? That does not sound like a UL-approved power cord -- perhaps you used a different plug end for demo purposes of this video? I'm confused by the idea of a groundless-grounded plug being legitimately sold in the U.S. and now I'm very curious where this cord came from. If that's a legit plug to that cord then I'm suddenly very concerned for my personal appliances.

Isaiah Johnson: What’s The name of this

Typical liberal: What if it’s just 2 copper wires???

Jeff Chappell: ........Dont Look Water Proof for outdoor use

isyt: Very US centric

Bill Owen: "It's broken", a kettle owner "Just buy a new one", his buddy (Anyone under 50 or so)

David Downs: ive done before.

Stephanie Shaw: I'm from Mississippi where can i purchase this at so i can fix my tv..

wiitx: How tf am I supposed to do this myself I'm 13

Matthew Casey: So your UL listing that you void once you modify electrical equipment is gone now are you gonna show the process of recertification?

Starwaves: Positive??? Yikes this is not direct current it’s alternate.

bill: who farted
