Hey guys, it's me Tommy, remember in my last video when I showed you guys this really cool method on how to do crochet locks using rubber bands well in this video I'll, be showing you guys how to do the same method, but this time you're gon na, Be doing box braids. I think this method is pretty easy. You get that professional look and beginners can learn how to do it. So, let's just jump right into it. So first things first we're gon na start off with the hair I got sent axises here called authentic jumbo braid can't come on here in 1b from Sam's Beauty. Thank You, Sam's Beauty. If it's applying to here for me, you guys are the best and then you're gon na start off with freshly washed and moisturized hair. I recycled my clip from my last video because it's the same method that I've done before to get my base. Moisturize put the rubber band twist away and then you're good to go so now. Let'S jump right into this method, so you're gon na take your section up here. You make it as thick as you want it to be, and you're gon na split it into making one side 75 % thicker than the other. That way, you have three even sections. I'M gon na explain to you a little bit further as I'm showing you guys how I'm doing it so you're gon na take the smaller piece and you're gon na crochet it under your box braid, which is gon na, be one piece of the three strands now, As you guys know, when you braid your hair, you have three strands so the reason why one piece is going to be 25 % smaller out of the other and the other one being 75 % largest, because that one piece is gon na, be one braid and Then the other piece that I have in my mouth is going to represent the two other strands. I'M gon na split my hair and tap and tighten it up just a little bit and then I'm going to tuck away one piece to go with this braid and then the other piece to go with the other braid and then we're just gon na braid. It all together, so I'm gon na take that piece that was in my mouth: that's 75 % thicker and then I'm gon na add it on top and then now begin to braid my hair. This is the same thing like using the crossover method. Basically, you take the two strands and kind of cross it in in a loop with each other and then break down. I always have a trouble doing that. I actually tried it with the back and it wasn't working out and that I gave up and decided to do it with the front this method because it slips out for me, so I think it's just a little bit more sturdier with getting that base together. Now, you're gon na come across this situation, where your rubber band ooh sticks out and that's why I like to use the clear rubber band because it's easy to just pull right out, and then you have that nice neat grade. Look at that OOP right out! I'M gon na show the method one more time which again it's very simple. Basically, you take a crochet needle you're gon na take that cake line here. That'S a little bit smaller you're gon na pull it through, make sure it's nice and even and then you're gon na take your twist even the section it off poke one to the bottom and the other one to the top. Then you're going to take the larger piece and then you're gon na begin to braid your hair into the three sections down. If the rubberband is sticking out once you're done with your braid, then you go ahead and just cut it off, make sure you're. Very careful. Not to cut your hair when you're cutting it off and that's basically it so some facts about this hairstyle. It did take me eight hours to do. Yes, it's very tedious, but I like to make sure that my braids are really neat also there were, but lengths along. So that's another reason why it took me so long to do these braids. Do I prefer this method over the way? I usually do my box braids, because you guys have seen my box great video. If not, I can show it below. Actually don't. I, like my own personal method, on how I do my box braids, but this technique is very popular with doing the T cross over. So if you want to try that technique and need a different version of how to do it, you can definitely follow this video. Also. What I like about this over my technique is that there's less tension in my head, the Braves, are not as tight. I can move it around freely versus the method that I personally use where I literally cannot move my box for paint to finish it off. You'Re, just gon na add some eco styler gel to your edges. If you like and then tie your hair down, I didn't show you guys, like the end end clip with me where I make up and everything like that, because I was very sick. I'Ve been sick for the past week, so I'm just going to show you the end. Click on how it looks a week later, when I felt a little bit better and I felt like putting on makeup, if you guys have any questions on how I did this method, please leave it below I'll try to put as much information in the description box And I'll see you guys in my next video bye,

Iisha La'Nae: What would be the reason you would do it this was verse just braiding your hair the normal way

Tiesha Mack: I have been teaching myself to box braid and this method will definitely help me out because I can’t get the hair to stay close enough to the scalp thanks for sharing ❤️

Jasmine Gilbreath: This is something I can actually do. I can’t braid my hair to save my life, but this.....I can do this. Thank you!

Els: Thanks I used this method and it's the best I ever done my box braids

Letoria Bennett: Easy and it looks Amazing!

YuNeka Vondetta: Wow, my mom used to do this method on my sis hair back in the mid 80s. Looks nice...Great job.

Theresa Coward: Great job showing us how to do it for yourself

Ashlee Brown: Hands down best method I’ve seen online. Thank you.

bees val bees val: Yes love this way going to do this before I report back to work July 6,2020. Thanks sooooo much.

Ninth Jewel: Your hair looks so neat love the style

Nuckie_Miamii: Omg your hair texture is so beautiful sus...love this outcome thanksss

Mimi: I've been looking for this. Thank you.

MightIAdd Podcast: My grip game ain't shit...this method helped me a lot

MISS POTENTIAL: back in the 90s stylists would use the rubber band method on dookie braids, which now trends as box braids. the reason for the rubber band method then was bc the parts in hair was much much bigger and would be harder to grip for some. also to make the hair look much neater since the hair parts are much bigger. I've never known the rubber band method used for such small parts of hair, which can cause tension and damage to hair, especially fragile or thin hair.

Someday Soon: I'm going to try this method because my hair is pretty soft and I don't want to have to keep putting a lot of tension on my hair to keep my box braids for 5 weeks.

Complex Nye: I tried this and failed miserably‍♀️‍♀️. You did a great job!

My modest life: I have been doing my daughter's hair like this for almost a yr now. I don't use the band's anymore...just plait her hair and then crochet and plait again.

Yolanda Hines: I cant grip very well, so this is an easier method for me. Thank you....

Pamela Harris: Love it.im going to show your video to my hair dresser.

Lovely Ley: Great method most definitely more confident to try it.

Lashawn Pickett: I'm definitely trying this method I been too scared to do it myself because I didn't think I would get it tight enough

Sweetz T: Lifesaver ! Thanks so much!

HauteCocoa: Wow this a genius method

FeeFee 86: I use a beader to crotchet braid because it's easier than the crotchet hook❤❤❤❤

Kiki Light: Love it

Melissa Nziza: Can you do the same method with yarn ?

Marley Lou: Thank you so much your method n’est jamais une mauvaise

Lauren Nicole: You look so much like Kerri Washington. So pretty and I LOVE this method. I think it's the best by far.

Aurora Autumn: 10 Packs would cost over $40. Nahh. I purchase 3 of the triple packs and paid $12 before tax and I did a full head and had almost a pack leftover. Then I reuse this same hair to do a twist style for two more weeks. I don’t see myself spending more than $12 on extensions per month.

Favour Okafor: Beautiful

Mars Vid: So if you end up cutting the rubber bands after doing the braid the braid won’t detach?

Uma Ois: Thank you for breaking it down

Niecey Beats: ive thought about this and im not sure if rubber are ok for everybody hair, definitely not my hair but this makes it alot easier.

harryskittyz: How long does it last?

Colby Roman: I love this! FYI: You sound and look like Sanaa Lathan's little sister! If she had one. Adorable! Lol

Ash: Great look

Tiffani Marck: May I ask I would like more braids to my already box bread Mohawk, is it possible to add an additional braid to a box braid?

Martha Beckford: Can i do this same method for the twist braid?

Chara Harris: Can put the entire piece of braid hair through your twist and then divide into three sections and braid? I hope my question makes sense.

Charity: I will definitely try this method, but my parts won't look as nice

Mamaelana: It looks like you could skip the bands and just twist and then add the hair? Since the bands are breaking. It happens every time to me I wonder if something in hair products makes them pop? Your hair came out beautiful!

MISS POTENTIAL: seems like more work when you can just part hair and braid. Plus the rubber band method can be to much tension on the hair. but i can understand this method may work for stylists who have trouble gripping the hair. I prefer no rubber bands, it would pull my hair causing too much tension with the braiding hair.

kale kween: @HairDeLaCreme How were you able to part the back of your own head so neatly??

thickmadamm50: Thank you for your tutorial nicely done has anybody ever told you that you look like Sanaa Latham?

Chrissy Payne: Can you use the prebraid crochet braid and use this method ?

Lovely Ley: It seems easier but those twist I don’t do because it’s time consuming but I just saw you untwist so that’s good

Mel Francois: Omg tanks for this

Jai B.: YOU JUST CHANGED THE GAME SIS

Katy Jordan: Can you do please do same for twist

Marcella Pratt: This seems complex and messy with the rubber bands left behind sorry, I do like the finish, love your natural hair looks great.

LisaFrank39: Okay okay. I got this. I got this. Wish me luck

tiffie: oooohhhhhh myyyyyyyy goooooodneesss i love this

Alexis Hill: How long does it last

Crystal B: Your hair’s grown a lot!

Kennedy Dunnings: About how many braids did you do

wah blah: How do you make the rubberbands not so tight? Whenever I do them they’re too tight for my scalp, especially towards my hairline cause it’s so sensitive

Ms Hill: This lip color is the bomb

Dejmaze: I would just wear the twist

Aurora Autumn: I prefer the twist version because I am still confuse with this version . No box braids for me until I master a version similar to this.

Jamie Kennon: How much hair did you use?

Natoya Stewart: Can i plait the base first instead of rubber band?

Shelby Steele: Did you use all 10 packs? Were they heavy?

Arleezah K. Marrah, Ph.D.: Thanks for sharing! God Bless. #Blackwomenaregenius

Arielle Thomas: I gotta learn how to crochet

preshiz pink: Instead of using 3 peices can't I just twist it like a Senagalese twist with this technique?

jojo v: Love love

Theresa Hill: Can you also use this method for senegalese twist

Andrea Moore: How do you part the back

terricaaa turnerrr: ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Marquis Williams: You just changed my life.

Patricia Martin: You look beautiful...you are Sanaa Lathan's twin...good job!

Judi Joseph: How many packs of hair did you use?

Stephanie Guilmenot: One rubber band damages your hair it is irresponsible to do this to your hair.

Mikita M.: Can I leave the rubber bands in?

WestWard Pomona Gyrl: Damn that was like doing algebra,i cant master that crochet hook for shyt. Nicely done though, very involved

lovablelibra: Not exactly what l would consider new braider friendly ‍♀️

Jenb B: Nah...not beginner friendly. What was the point of the rubber band/crochet? You still did the "traditional" braiding technique.

Mother Earth: Dang i just watched video i have all these ingredients in Kitchen lol and they are cheap if u have to buy them that's good

pamela shephard: How many package of hair you used for this style

Celestial Lore: So are you twisting your plat rubberband in it and then crocheting or just gripping it altogether rubber band and then crocheting

Teish Hollis: What do u use on twist? Plse

Chance Forever: Seems to be extra time or wasted time twisting your natural hair to later take them down. And I don’t understand the crochet method if you’re going to braid one piece over the rubber band anyway. Sorry

BriStackx: Your rubber band is pretty hidden. I like that

네이카: More like intermediate friendly lol

STA MAC: Whats the link to the locks video plz

pamela shephard: How many packages you used , you remember

a. S.: Omg too complicated!

Mountain Top Kids: This seems extremely complicated.

Patricia Slate: Hello how are you I have a request on you individual braids wirh rubber bands I just can't get it how you doing that with your finger when you showing how to grip the hair when you first put your braid in please can show it a litter slower

alao bukola: Ur natural hair is bae

VettaBoo: This looks difficult af

sugamehoney: Beautiful! You favor Sanaa Lathan

God's Fav: I can’t braid under it’s so annoying

Rachael.O: Was this painful. Coz I'm kinda scared to do it

Angie Ibyatsi-Mwanda: My daughter has mixed race hair, it is curly but more like Caucasian hair, would this be a good method to braid in extensions in her hair? She likes having braids in because she hates getting her hair combed.

iron madien: If you wanted too could you leave the rubber band in?

lee chasi: You could have brained your own hair and then do the crochet method. Rubber bands not good for the hair

Brown_Beauty: Sanaa Lathan!!

Tee Logan: Too much time for the same look as regular box braids

Rita Myers: carmelcode I was thinking the same thing
