Oh, you know what time it is. I am going to be trimming my hair by doing the now famous pigtails cut technique, but we're going to do it a little bit differently. I'M just gon na apply a little bit of a cutting lotion, AKA a light leave-in conditioner and I am going to be customizing this technique so that the ends are not so bottom. Heavy right in here is what I want to remove. So I split my hair in two and I need to brush it really smooth and then place the hair tie very carefully in the hair. I have placed the hair tie further back and lowered down on my head, which isn't quite going to layer, my hair, but it is going to give the ends a graduated effect. If I wanted to remove more weight up top, I would place my ponytail higher and if I wanted to create layers that are shorter in the front and longer in the back, then I would place the hair tie. All the way up in the front see the difference, but all I'm looking to achieve is a slightly rounder shape. I will point cut to keep it soft around the edges, like this

Leo Moon: This is my go-to haircut. There's no curly hair specialist near where I live so I have no choice but to do this on my own So worth it

Vanessa D.: Definitely trying this at home! I can’t keep paying $200+ just for a wash and trim with my stylist every couple months.

Krissy Fizzle: Your hair is so pretty and healthy ❤❤

Adrianna Rodriguez-Rafeequllah: Would it be a Distaster if I do 2 relatively high ponytails on each side? I have tailbone length with no layers. My goal is to add subtle layers while trimming my ends but I fear I won't get much layers with 1 high ponytail due to the length of my hair. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

grace: I did this yesterday and finally achieved what I wanted with my hair. Thank you a thousand times! ❤ PS I didn’t do it because my hair was “bottom heavy” but the opposite - it was thinning at the bottom. Now it’s has much fuller look!

Karen Mitchell: I’d love to see the other final styles for different pigtail positions

Tissan Howard: Since I discovered your DIY haircut method, I’ve been trimming my hair myself for the past couple of months! Thank you for demystifying this process. Now I am addicted, and I want to trim my hair every week

Hibiscus Honey: I was just thinking how could cut my own for past 4 days. This came right on time. Thank you. It made it easy for me to not be so scared to do it. Yours came out great

Courtney Hairston: Definitely needed to see this today. Guess it’s time to do the famous hair trim to my own hair. Can’t wait to see the finished product . Thank you Mel!

Nadja Reichel: I used your technique 2 days ago. I’m so happy you made this video cause its going to help me so much next time.

AutzKing: Just want to put it out there. You've helped a curly hair guy many times over (and, by extension, have contributed to compliments I've gotten) with some of your tips. Thank you kindly!

Naturally Beautiful: This is what I needed. My layers are a bit disconnected. Thank you!

Kendall: Hey Mell! I was wondering what kind of haircut would be good for medium/fine curly hair that seems to be weighed down? Are layers a good option? Also what highlights do you give Amada I want to get them! Thanks for being the best curly YouTuber out there! Say hi to Amanda for me!

Dayanidí M. Ortiz: I have seen the original video but would love to see a step by step tutorial of this new variation...to follow along.

Christi Love: I'm so green jello of your natural curls, you go girl, gorgeous

Layton pro 🎩⚡: I always come back to your turtorials, literally just cut my hair again. Don’t have any curl specialist near by and I’m a student so need to stay on a budget. Your videos have been a live saver, I’ve not been to the hairdresser since 2020

Nikki: So helpful, thank you!

T Pine: Any suggestions on heat damage? I went to a stylist to straighten my hair and got a lot of heat damage

Lorene Knight: Wow...that turned out amazing. You look stunning!!!!

Kim Mattler: Your curls are stunning!

♥DreamPinkClouds♥: Daamn.. definitely wasn't expecting that.. it's absolutely gorgeous

Frances Di Salvatore: Omg love how it came out lovely

kyliee c.: Will this haircut also look good when i straighten my hair?❤

Mireya Domínguez Piris: Fantastic, just one question: How can we get a haircut less rounded but with layers? Maybe with other haircut (wolf cut?), or with this doing the pigtails upper to have shorter layers on the top? Of course, my hair is Curly, but I prefer a "lion look" than a "ball look". I appreciate your help

J S: I’ve seen curly youtubers do videos such as setting up a curly hair routine under 10 dollars or shopping for curly hair products at a dollar store. I think it could be a fun video to see you do

Amit: Looks great

kae thé: According to my stylist (highest level stylist at an Aveda salon with 30+ years experience) no cut should be technically "blunt" even blunt looking styles. Hair needs layers so that it can move naturally, be it long layers or hidden layers. Even blunt haircuts on celebrities have layers.

Alexis TwoLastNames: something about your voice and presentation style is so satisfying in a way that i can’t explain. the way you said “cutting lotion” made me wanna comment lmfao! gotta try this method

Shauna Tidwell: As a fellow hair stylist I will never understand why other hairstylists try to encourage people to cut their own hair ‍♀️

pc dc: Beautiful curls

Noodle 🍜: So BEAUTIFUL ❤️

S.S Flower: Mell, can you review affordable Amazon hair sheers?

Jessica James: Love your curls

thefaceofthecentury: That is some beautiful hair!

Labradley9: With this technique do you still need to do the final step you did in the original video? Where you turn your head and trim the bottom of the hairs so it’s not in a V shape?

Lucrece von Kasm: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE A LONGER VIDEO ON THIS!!!

G: I love the dark hair on you Mel!!!

Bridget Weedon: My god your hair is gorgeous!!

MaryAnn Mast: *Sorry this is so long* Hey Mel, have you ever heard of twisting your hair to create "texture" on the ends? First I should tell you I NOW have very wonky hair - curly in the back & little to none in the front. It was stick straight until my 40's & then it started to curl...? I always twist my bangs (have no natural curl in them) & cut them with thinning shears (usually - sometimes I'll use just any scissor I can find). I feel like it gives me the little fringy bangs that I like without having to tip cut(?) the ends. Anyway my hair is super thick & coarse with a lot of greys & I was wondering if you thought twisting each pigtail would be easier to handle. I really don't think I have the hand/shoulder strength to comb it all flat or that I could even fit all of my hair in one smooth section of my fingers - there's just too much of it. I was thinking if I could just twist it all & put in a hair tie as a guide - would that work? I do have hair scissors BTW. I know that makes a difference. Also where can I get your mister & the styling brush that starts with a "D"? My memory sucks! Hoping to hear from you soon - I'm tempted to just go for it - lol Thanks So Much, MaryAnn

Valeria Perez: Oh I love it, beautiful

Zohar Hashahar: Hey love your content so helpful. Would it work on a wavyer type of hair? (2c)

Prena Ivezaj: Beautiful

MelzMedina: I know this is besides the point, but I love your nails!

Bri-Aunna Rau: Would it look funny if we did all three hair tie placements?

Tatyana Alani: i wonder what it would look like on wavy hair

J Mac: The last time I tried to trim my own hair I cut my finger instead. I don’t know how you all do it.

XXo: How does it look like straight? Bc I like to wear my hair both naturally wavy and straightened

Roxanne Ramirez: Bihh I'ma bout to go do this now

Emily Abel: OH! MY! GWARD!!!!! NOW THATS A GLOW UP!

C. C.: I wish you could come and trim my hair. It's been months since I've had a trim.

Claudia Barron: I’m doing this tonight

MissKrisLoves: How do you trim your bangs?

Nina Hndz: Loooove the hair

Patty Fernandez: What did you do with the top (bangs area)?

rexjun: omg SO BEAUTIFUL

Rachelle P: Please show us how you cut Amanda's hair .

AnnieMM: Brilliant Brilliant BRAVO A MILLION THANK YOU'S

Shawnda Newby: Would it work for doing a blunt edge

Jessica Courtney: When will your verb line be available in the UK/Ireland?

Nemie Miller: Love you MANE GIRL MEL!!!!

Kayla Furst: Woah so cute

Lina Guido: Amazing!!!Looking Fantastic

Andrea: Those curls are a pain. Good job.

Desi P.: Ok how do you master this with wet hair

Esther Bjerga: I can’t even imagine saying that to someone even if they WEREN’T obviously struggling.

Teah Eichler: ❤❤❤

drumsanddrumming: Love pigtails teehee

Cheryl Tait: Nice

Milly Tremblay: Scream!!!!!! Me sitting with scissors and hair ties in my hands and I could NOT find this again. It doesn't show up in my history. Calm...calm...I found it.

Lola Sky: This is way to complex to be an at home hair cut. There's wAaaay too much room for error.

Asha varghese: Halo I'm coming from India I love to see you real .. but I can't If you don't mind I have request I want a help from you . I hope you help me .for my studies

Clover: Can u cut my hair?

Flood14: Lose the hair tie. The pressure point is what you don't want. Part, brush out, trim. No hair ties. Makes my stomach hurt. Looks good in the beginning, but not ideal once it grows. Trust me. 35 years of doing this.

Tyra Perez: Make an actual video please

beautifulchaos13: a cutting lotion ‍♀️

Andrea: I see people crying for months until It grows out. Good luck.

JT Sanchez: you really talk too much!!??

Bau Meister: @bradmondo

OldBones: As a licensed cosmetologist I can tell you that curly haired people should never cut their hair while wet and straightened. You always want it to be dry with full curls. Because it might look straight while cutting it wet and smooth but when its in its natural state(meaning dry with curls) it’s no longer straight.
