"I Didn'T Know My Hair Was Curly Before Growing" (Medium Length Wavy Haircut)

George came in after growing his hair for 18 months and not knowing he had curly hair. He’d had a few at home haircuts to tidy it up, but wanted his first haircut for his new found curly hair. Dan gave George a balanced haircut that worked for his face shape, and for his wavy hair.

All right guys welcome back to the bigger gentleman youtube channel, the regular gentlemen studio today, we've got george in the chair. How are you mate, you're, good, nice man, so what we do what's the plan? Well, i'm gon na keep a lot of the curl pattern. Okay, like how highly it's got the last year or so yeah yeah, but i want to kind of even up the shape, especially around, like i think, like the sides yeah. Maybe it's a bit like too too long around yeah. You can see the unevenness a little bit actually yeah yeah. So what was your previous haircut like before this? Before this yeah? I had like sides shaved down to like a number four okay and then the top was just like this: okay, yeah wow, just like a standard short back inside yeah wow. Goodness me you've done well together, so this has been a year. What did you say so? I'Ve got to say that the most remarkable thing i've noticed since lockdown it's hard for you to vote just because it's just your hair, but from all the haircuts that we've done everyone's hair grows at such a different pace. We'Ve had guys who come in who've. You know grown here for 18 months, it's not even as long as yours and they've had it. You know probably like a month a month shorter, if you, if you're looking at that way, like they've, had like a two back in size for a little one back inside. So you've done well to get this length in mate. I mean what did you, what was the secret? Did you just leave? It is that the ends look quite rough and spindly. I think because we cut the ends of the clippers. Okay, yeah yeah. Well, i don't know there is under a microscope. You can kind of see that real, i don't know i mean obviously with a blade it's different. Obviously it will be smoother. You probably, i think the thing is, you probably know some more because it is with clippers and it's curly. I think that's why you probably use it on mine. You probably wouldn't notice the difference, but with yours because it does get drier then, like curly hair does become quite dry. You probably notice it a lot more so be fair. Well, that's fine! I mean look. You'Ve got enough length that we can balance it all out. Are you liking this kind of like longer top heavy shape the way kind of sit out? Would you want to be a bit more full a bit more round, or what would you prefer a bit? Fuller? Would be better yeah yeah a bit more like? Obviously i don't know if this is right, but i feel like maybe some of the weight causes this top to like flatten out a bit and if there was possible possibility for more color code, yeah yeah and around the top. That would be maybe definitely yeah. Definitely it's just all the length, that's what it is. It'S gravity pulling all that weight down. That'S that's how you pull that length down is what creates this kind of pattern. So it almost creates that angle. Like a triangle, almost you know, so all we need to do. There is just just cut it in a way that you've got a bit of a short element to the top and then once you take away some of these dead ends as well, because it is quite uneven, the more the more you run, your hands through it. The more you can see it's quite uneven, especially like down the bottom. If you look like there's a big difference between certain bar, like that bit there to the bottom bit yeah that could be neckline. That could also be from the home cuts. We don't know yet, but we'll see, but yeah. I think the best thing to do is just put some shape into it. Balance it out a lot more take off not make it look as though, if i just turn the camera, do you see the way? It looks as though it's just like layer and then like a long layer like a short layer in the mongolia. I think, obviously, if we balance that out a bit more, it's not always necessary taking the neck up. I think it is taking the neck up, but i think it's taking some length at the top as well to create a more fuller shape. I think that'll be better because that'll be like a proper haircut for you. First george, this is like obviously just grown out and had a couple of diy jobs, but i think if you're liking the kill, let's cut it into a proper shape for you, cool man, all right, let's go and you open get. You started then right guys. So i'm going to start off with the horseshoe section. Okay, now what i want to do is i want to start to separate the top to the back inside. I really want to start seeing the face, shape and also the previous cut, and also how it's grown out. Now, as you can see, george has got curly hair and i'm doing this wet now with this kind of kale, i always find it it's not. It is a kill, don't get me wrong right, but i find that you know if this was cut short. Like george even said he didn't know, he had kelly. I think that's more of a wave, so i find doing this here, a lot easier, cutting it wet. I don't think i'm gon na because i'm not trying to take loads of length off i'm just trying to create a little bit of a different shape. I don't need to worry about being too dry. I know the bottom is very curly, but i i just find this type of texture here. I just find it a bit easier doing it when it's wet and just because the hair gets old right when you think about how old george's hair is now. This was say that long on top before he grew it out, and it was number four, so it was already just over a centimeter in length. Now you've got to think the ends of the hair, some especially some of george's hair. The ends will be over a year old. It'S like a long time. That'S an awful lot. You know of pollution smoke, you know you name it whatever's. Whatever george has come in contact with your hair, absorbs so say he hangs around with some guys who smoke you'll. You'Ll get it collected in the hair, so you know the ends: they get drier and drier and drier and dry. And if you don't look after them, then they will just end up becoming really really brittle. They'Ll end up snapping off and you end up having to start from scratch or taking it back quite a few months, because you can't you know when the hair gets that dry, even when you run your hands through it. It starts to snap. So you need to keep the hair nice and healthy by looking after it. So whatever you're doing george, it seems to be working good mate, so it's in it's in goodness few dry ends, but nothing that unusual. You know i'm going to take fairly wide sections, because you don't want to take much enough here. We just want to balance it all out, remember from the temple to the top of the ear. Okay, just as a reference, i'm going to take some length off now. This is going to help to thin out the back and sides by taking some of the shorter and also help balance, as you can see, some short bits and some long bits there as well. So, let's take this in there like that, so we'll take that much off just try and give it some balance another wide section. Again: let's switch from the middle of the ear to past the ear now, and then we find our guide. Here'S our guide, don't worry! How much length is coming off following our guide? Remember it's the length we picked. We know it's going to work. We'Ve just seen it fall from the sides. We know this is going to work, and this is going to balance shore sections that have been taken on the the friend cut. It starts to create a lot more kill through this hair style start to sit more balanced now, another section behind to use as a guide now, because at the back of the ear, nice and straight, but now it's a it. What it is it's just when you see that over direction coming in with you keeping a lot of the length, either side or all the length in some cases and taking that a little bit shorter, the length stays the same because you're pulling it straight down. You'Re not taking off the length at the bottom, so you just balance and everything everything becomes straight to the top becomes shorter or it becomes the same length as the bottom, which makes it look longer because the bottom's still got lengthening. But everyone else is a bit shorter, so it's just that. It'S just an illusion. You know there's my guide. There we go. What else is my guide nice and straight? That was my guide. What else over my guide there we go. There'S not a lot of this bit. Oh so we shall die there. We go so this side is shorter than the other side. As you can see, it's quite damaged to the ends as well. If you've got any heat on this or yeah, never you never. You always air dry. There we go so remember, don't forget, even if you're not taking a lot off one side doesn't mean we're doing it wrong we're following our guide. That is the main thing that is exactly the same as that side see what my fingers exactly the same. So that's going to fall exactly the same way now, i'm sure i'll bring this forwards a second just over your eyes, a minute like that all right now head down for me a sec. Now. What i want to do is i'm going to work from the side. I'M just going to tidy up the perimeter okay. Now we want to maintain a lot of length on the sides. We still want to maintain length because the sides are always the longest thing to grow, bring it down and match up what looks the level okay, wherever the shortest point is match up. So just right there, nice and straight. We are not point cutting into this circle. At all there we go cut that bit off, so we're working with the long with the shortest point on the sides that way, it's all going to be even symmetrical bring this right down. Let'S leave some of that length sitting through here behind the ear and let's cut some length off as well, so there we go that little guideline we've seen before i'm working to that point. Now i'm bringing this straight down. I don't want to create this kind of layer effect when it comes around. I want to still feel quite solid behind the ear because generally around here, it's quite hard to grow thick and keep that kind of leanness behind the ear. So i want to try and keep all that from the back there we go. The guide, i've just crossed, bring it down there, we go with my guide and the length off there. We go. That'S all it's going to start balancing now see, but the shorter layers that we cut in, but it doesn't look like it's it's sort of off in length. It looks more balanced. Now, we've cut the top. We'Ve got the neckline up a little bit coming. It'S a match. Looking a lot comes off this bit now the shortest length which is there so again, not an awful lot just enough to make sure it balances there we go that will go a lot early when it's dry all right. It'S just! You still got a lot of weight in the hair, all right which, to be honest, i think you best keep them. I think if you thin this out too much i'll go really afraid, especially just from the last haircut. You know i'd keep a bit of weight in there, so i want to create a bit more of a shape to this now, so you see the way that starts to fall, so even just like that looks much better right. I think you should wear it off. Your face, i think it looks nice. We can cut it in a way that you can style it this way as well. I think it'll be ideal. You know, i think, it'll be really nice, i'm going to take a section down the middle okay or just off center, in fact just off center. I don't want to encourage the center, but i just remember then: at the start it was quite solid in the in the sort of off center. So i don't want to encourage the center part. Okay, so i do know what i'm gon na do. I'M gon na take some vertical sections through the sides, make sure i'm bringing that fringe back, always bring it back past the recession points okay, it's always nice to keep that fringe. Full pull it out and then use your guide from underneath there we go. What you're doing is you're cutting the layer at the top shorter so, as that dries it'll create more of a softer, more rounded finish. Okay, there we go, i'm gon na dive underneath and i got from behind nice straight from my angle - in there keeping it nice and straight for now. There we go and the reason i'm dropping this down to the back is obviously we don't need to worry about. The crown because we're keeping our hair long we're keeping the weight in there, but i want to still create the same look from every angle, so i'm working it down to the back that when we do the other side we match up in the middle, we've got The same finish each way round, we look at george's head pull this in, like so guide guide there we go just a little bit right, mirror this. So repeat this side now off center. I always want to keep some bulking length in there, pull it out. There'S my guide there and there's one for there. We go out. Here'S our guide street house there's my guard from the bottom, this guy's from what we just cut myself, nice and straight glide, again, look so stay in my consistency! Get nice and straight there we go there. We go straight out. Almost there we go so can you see that it's still being quite square, but when we dry that that's got a very softer finish to it? It'S not completely square because of the wide sections we've been taking. We'Ve left a lot of the natural length still in there, but that'll become a lot rounder now through the top it's up and we'll use the guides from either side. Naturally, it's going to make the middle shorter another section, just working our way back using the guy from the front there we go. Let'S find that guide there we go see a lot more is coming off through this back bit. Now again, i'm not concerned because i'm using the same guide, i don't have to worry there. We go look at that. We'Re gon na have a nice guide. There we go and then we go look we match perfectly like so right. That'S all we need to do. I don't know anything else. I think the hair's got that kind of still dryness to it. I don't want to start with a razor through it. I just want to style it for me again. This is all about primary shape when you're doing curly, hair or wavy hair secondary shape comes with a sectioning pattern that we've just created all right. So i'm going to pop in a little bit of baxter california, grooming, cream. Okay, this has got a very light hold, but we're looking for more of a natural fish, we're looking for something that's gon na give it like a healthy finish. All right and all the ingredients in this are very good for you. You'Ve got botanical extracts, fishman, b and e aloe vera things like that, so it's all very good for the hair. Now i apply this one to towel dried, okay, what you do put it in to the hair like this you're kind of basically massaging it. Okay, not being very vigorous, not rubbing it too much, you're, not scrunching it too much, and then just let's just pattern in basically: okay, so i'm just working with george's natural off-center part, and that seems to be where it wants to fall. He'S got a wicked double crown at the back of his head there. So, thankfully, we're not going short, because that looks like it'd be a very intriguing crown to cut. Did you ever have problems with the new kid? Did you ever if it's standing up yeah yeah yeah yeah? It'S all right for this length, though it doesn't matter with this one, but you've got that. Well, that's why your natural partner sits so zigzaggy, because you, your partner, your crowns, just meet in the middle. I think that's go with it, don't fight it, it makes it styles it for you. Okay, there we go a little bit of the cream in there now diffuser on hair dryer high heat, but like a sort of medium speed, okay, speed on first and the heat. Okay, now i want you just to lean your head into the diffuser for me and just lock your hair in okay, it's gon na dry, it with a lot more clear, a lot more bounce you're, trying it upwards. Okay, you join the hair upwards, but as the kale falls, it creates a lovely loose finish. So just look at that just off one side of it creates a lovely, loose, hair. Okay, you dry it as well. You can swim straight if you want to as well like this or you can move your fingers through it to break out back hair, whatever you're fancy doing will dry off a little, which will lean your back now. If you lean your head back for me, george right back for me and drop that hair in, let me get this side so just going to finish off a little bit more grooming cream. So we dried a bit in that's protected. The drying process stopped the heat from the hair from burning, and now i'm just gon na rub a little bit in just scrunch. In again now, that's gon na give you that natural shine as you can see, you've got a much rounder finish than it. Looking really well, it still looks well, but it looks nice and kind of cut into this section now more than looking like it did. When you came in there, we go so for it to look like that, it really didn't take much effort at all. You know a better diffuser, a bit of grooming cream back to california and that was kind of it so again, not an awful lot, but just enough to create a much nicer shape for you happy with that yeah cool. Do you have the fear that i think a lot of guys do have only got long killers? You have to fear that you're gon na, like you, see loads of them coming off. You think, oh god, i'm going to walk out with saturday. The reality is just even taking a lot of length off in the right places, still maintains a lovely shape and then you're left with that type of curl, not that kind of drying spread out girl that you came with here i mean looks amazing. That'S got no added texture that is literally just section and pattern and look at the shape we've created. Look at that movement. Kale creates its own texture one day it might be wild one day. It might be really soft and fall a bit heavier. It just all depends on the day, the humidity, but that's the beauty of curls. They keep you guessing mate. So that's what i like about curls, but it looks amazing. I love that man happy here cool. Thank you very much man. You

Nathan Rader: As a hairstylist myself with an interest in longer men’s cuts I can say this is quite profesh as is all of Dan’s work. I only wish there were some way to see their face for the unveiling despite the safety issue as it makes the whole look come to life! Greetings from Portland, Oregon.

JordRHCP: this video made me realise how much better my hair would look if it was sectioned properly and not just rushed and then destroyed with thinning scissors. thank you for this

Who’stosay: Fantastic hair -fantastic cut - that’s exactly how that type of hair should look

Phila Mlaba: I loved him in Dune and The French Dispatch, he’s got a long career ahead of him

Jed H: Frustratingly good hair on this guy. Great as always from Dan

S.E: take a shot each time Dan says......"and there's my guide"

Francesco Bergonzi: Damn love this guy hair and you made it look so damn good

Javier Castillo: I would really like to see a 3a 3b 3c medium length haircut. There is not much information out there for that and I would like to really let it grow.

miganoosh petrossian: This guy has good hair. He needs ciderwood essential oil if he wants the fuzziness go away. Just need 3 drops on hand, rub on the hair once a week. This is good for man, women. Also if you have dry scalp, can do scalp treatment once a week ( don't need to wash after you but that on the scalp). Of course you do need your daily shower .

Infect Art: Really like this channel , just wish the videos were longer .

miganoosh petrossian: Beautiful well done

Your Daily Kick of JOKJOK: The hair is already cool from the start. very 90's Pearl Jam. Love the outcome more though

Raven T: Great results. He should condition more. :)

Kiran Kalshoven: That looks like a Timotheé Chalamet haircut

Khristian Bayless: saving this bc this is exactly how i need mine cut, (plus some length)

Juampi Mlb: Nice and clean cut

andrew kelly: That’s a great long hair tidy up cut

S.E: NICE TO SEE SOMETHING DIFF THAN THE USUAL SKIN FADE

rockshot100: Great cut, but maybe just the filming, but it looks like he's been playing volleyball all day, or was rubbing a balloon on his head. There is a little too much fly away poof. Fantastic hair and cut, I would put a little bit of stuff on it, then comb it though, just to tame that down a little.

User1218: Bro I want my hair to look like this but my hair is like twists curly

Ala Lulu: Omg his hair exactly like mine

Robin Burcham: This us a great haircut, but I don't understand all these negative remarks about 6 longer haircuts compared to about 50 fade haircut videos.

Michael Michael: Ideal hair.

Anthony: What watch is he wearing? Very nice looking watch.

Anime thighs: I didn’t know mine was curly either

WhatChannel: Trying to get an over ear hair length for my wavy hair but That salon guy i went to blow-dry my hair upward which just ruin my wavy curl. The ends should be downward but now most of it are coming upwards. Its like he is trying to make a fake curl on my naturally wavy hair. Damn it.

Supreme Trimmer: Very nice and clean!

Big man: What is his hair type 2a,2b or,2c?

Ben Bakker: Beautiful hair and cut, but would style it not as poofy, that's more of a female look.

M&G Attorneys: His hair was better before he got there

Hair Stylist SOHEL: good job

CRDF Rider: He didn't seem happy with it at all lol

wwemj213: What? Thats too frizzy......

Edward Holbrook: Most of these haircuts are on point, but this is a frizzy mess. The client didn’t seem happy.

John-Mark Morgan: I wish the client showed a bit more enthusiasm! its such a great cut!

Samuel Johnson29: His hair and my hair are exactly the same except mine is black

AL: My hair is curly and dry, what products should I use? Have you uploaded any vedio about that?

A Kh: Nice cut ,but the styling was totally wrong!!! You left his hair frizzy like he had fight with a cat.

Jonathan Ibarra: The goat

Mg92: Why removed it at first?

S.E: Dan is worth the £80, cant wait

Gobiwawyd: 15:12 guys ear drums are dead lol

Gobiwawyd: there going way to far with these old spice ads

Elizabeth: Didn’t we see this video done months ago? Is it a repeat?

UnformedBog9059: Jesus loves you ❤️

silvano de lazzari: Try to smile, it's free...

Gus GHD:

HaloDestroyer44: nice

Saad Abdul Hakeem: Please come to india

St. Henrik: Sorry but too much volume on behind

Coupage: lol, really? Looks like a bird nest, jmho. If the client likes it, gtg.

BT2020: It's the actor from Dune

Zachariah: Very nice

Rico Kris Bay: Bro you paid for an Edward Scissorhands look? Is this a free haircut? If not make sure you get a refund.

Siddharth: Hey Buddy :) I got this vdos notification earlier..but when i checked the channel,it was not there Hmm...i'm only second

Brian F: Why’s he so sad

Blayne: I feel like the style is very feminine. It's a MUCH nicer shape, but I think another inch or two off would have helped and taken it to intentionally messy and not just messy.

Saad Abdul Hakeem: First yayyy

Y: Ngl im kinda starting till get sick of these middle parted, curly hair styles.

Christian Meyer: People will be kicking themselves in few weeks if they miss the opportunity to buy and invest in bitcoin
