Hey guys today, I am going to show you how I cut my own hair, so my haircut is something I get asked about all the time. So I like lots of layers, but I like it to look very cohesive between my layers in my length. So this is how I start. I know I need a haircut when my ends start looking really stringy and my curls are really stretched out and I'm seeing more frizz, no matter how I style my hair or what I do. This is how my hair looks when I need a haircut, so I'm gon na start out with these scissors. I bought them on Amazon. I will link them in the description down below. I split my hair on either side I'll kind of roughly part it in the middle and then I take the length and pull it straight pretty loosely, but make sure I have all of my ends between my fingers and then I cut, however much length. I want to take off then I go ahead and do it. On the other side, I have tried it both ways with brushing my hair out before I cut it and keeping it curly and honestly I like how it turns out better when I leave it curly when I cut my length so then, after I've cut both sides, I'M just kind of gon na fluff it, let's make sure no curls were missed, and then I part it the way that I wear it every day. So it looks like the one side is a little bit longer, which is no problem. I'M just gon na go cut a little bit more off of outside the good thing about curly hair. Is that it's really hard to mess it up? I'M sure you can mess it up, but it's a lot harder to mess it up. So I'm just gon na kind of pull out it make sure I didn't miss any random little curls, then what I'm gon na do is pull the link straighter again and then I'm going to cut into the hair like that. So what this does is gives the hair less of a blunt finish and more soft of a finish, and by doing this I make sure that I didn't miss any random little hairs just cut into it just a little bit and we're done with the length now. I'M going to brush out my hair, so I'm gon na show you how I brush all of my hair on one side, because I think that it's really it can be really painful, perhaps curly, hair and it can be really damaging. So this is how I brush my hair to make sure that I'm not causing breakage and I'm not pulling so I'm using a wet brush, which I also use on my three-year-old daughter. The bristles are very flexible, so it's not gon na cause. The breakage like a normal hairbrush and it's not gon na pull like a normal hairbrush. So this is my brushed out curls. So then, what I'm going to do is take some ponytails and I'm gon na flip my head over and brush it forward towards my forehead. So now, what I'm doing is I'm going to cut my layers so once it's all brushed forward, I'm going to take one of the ponytails when I'm ready and I'm gon na make a ponytail right there at the front of my forehead. So this you'll see this all over YouTube. This is called a unicorn cut because I look like a unicorn, so after I put the first ponytail in, I will pull my hair straight and put in another pony tail. A few inches further down make sure it's all nice and straight and smooth, and then I'm going to put in one more to make sure it's all pulled as straight as possible and pull it down. And what I like to do is cut above that little ponytail, because it's going to create less of a mess all over your floor, but you can also cut below it. Just depends what you prefer, after that, I'm going to do the same exact thing that I did to the length of my hair. I'M going to make sure there aren't any random little hairs that I missed and then I'm going to cut into it. To give it a nice soft finish, instead of kind of a harsh line, so you'll see a lot of people cut all of their hair. Like this, I like to cut my length first, because I like that very cohesive, look between my length and my layers. I found if I only cut my hair in the unicorn cut. If I cut all the entirety my length and my layers, I will get kind of separation between my layers of my length. So then, what I'm going to do here is brush my hair out again and part it in the middle, because I am going to trim up my bangs so once my hair is parted, I'm going to kind of create a little triangle in the front there there's One side of the triangle, and just like everything else, it does not have to be perfect. It'S very easy to go back and trim more off or fix it if you need to. If you don't like how it's looking so I'm going to create that little triangle and then pull it all forward and you center by my nose and then I'm going to twist it. This is going to give the bangs more of a natural look than very blunt straight across look, so I've been growing out my bangs a bit, so I'm just gon na trim them a little bit to give my ends a little freshening up, but a lot of The time I will cut them right around my chin, but I'm trying out longer bangs so now my hair is all brushed. So I'm gon na wash and show you the finished result and voila. What a good wash in a little bit of mascara and lip gloss. Will do so, as you can see, my curls have all bounced back and you can see how my layers and my length just kind of blend together. There'S no separation. My ends, don't look thinner, so that is it and, like I said I am NOT a hair professional. This is just what I like doing and will continue to do. Thank you guys so much for watching, and I will see you all again soon.

Kelli: Tonight I did a search for “trimming my curly hair at home” since the country is pretty much on lock down and YOUR video was the first that came up! I check in on your channel often for new content and what a coincidence that THE day I searched for a DIY trimming tutorial was THE day you uploaded one. Thank you thank you!

Nora Cooper: I have hair EXACTLY like yours! I've used this video 3 times since the pandemic started and its so easy! Unless I want to do something crazy with my hair, I'll continue to use this method. Thank you so much for this!

analuvsya1: I did this and it worked perfectly! I have fine, thinner, 2C hair. I even got it wet and brushed it out before the haircut and it worked. So easy. Thank you! I never knew I could get the salon style look at home!

Megan Sherman: I was in desperate need of getting my hair trimmed! I was even going to have my husband cut and glad I didn't and decided to do it myself! Your video is perfect for those with curly hair! I was at first worried I was going to mess this up because I'm an awkward left hander when using scissors. But you are right, it is very hard to mess this up! Also what I appreciate about this video that you are cutting your hair dry. I feel like when I go to the salon they never know how to work with curly hair, and resort to the wet hair method, not cutting with curls. Thanks for this video! I've feel please with my results!

Joyful: Thank you! Now that everything is lock down, I thought I'd see how easy / hard it was to cut my hair :) Thanks to your video - It made it so easy and my curls now look way better! Thanks so much! Love Danica in NZ x

Sam I Locust Ridge Kitchen: So surprised at how easy this was and it turned out great! Perfect quarantine haircut!

Simply Mel: I love how easy you broke this down !! I will definitely be attempting my own hair cut !! Thanks

narcissa: I am soooo doing this next time I'm washing my hair! I just started the curly girl method recently, and my hair is all one length which I loved when I was straightening the crap out of it, but now I am in a desperate need of some layers so I don't look like the Bermuda-triangle of frizz and regrets lol Thank you for this!

Cheryl L: I haven’t paid for a haircut in a couple years and I LOVE it!!!! And even if I decide to straighten it, it is perfectly even. Thank you for deciding to make this video because it helped me out tremendously. I had to save this video and subscribe in order to find it again. Everyone here would be very wise to do the same otherwise you’ll spend 45 minutes searching for this video just like I did tonight

Marieke Stolp: Did ittt! What a relief. Such a difference. My hair is alive again. Simple and effective, thank you!!

Elizabeth Crossnoe: Just throwing it back to this video because I’ve watched it 246 times and given myself now my 4th successful trim with this method THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME THE COURAGE TO GO FOR IT. because now I’m kind of addicted to trimming my hair

Jay Panchal: Thanks so much I tried it on my daughter and myself we are both curly girls brilliant tutorial and nice and simple. No need to worry about the salon ruining our curls.

Erin S: This is probably the best home haircut video I've seen. I love the format (simple and informative without being in your face annoying, just nice!), and the fact that it doesn't tell you to start your haircut with straightened hair lol. Thanks!

Megan Campbell: Loved this tutorial !! Thank you so much, my hair is refreshed and curlier than ever!

Andrea German: I loved this video! I tried this after watching it twice and taking notes. It looks AMAZING! I am so grateful

Bibi: Great tips, thank you!!! Finally, someone with straightforward explanation, no BS! And no unnecessary blah blah

Samantha Grosteffon: I did it! I cut my own hair during quarantine thanks to your video. I don't think I'll do it myself once salons are re-opened, but my hair is much bouncier and looks nice! Curls can hide flawed cuts lol <3 thank you

Helen Milchling: Thank you. I just took about 2 inches off my hair. Salons just opened here in MD. I can't get in with the woman I trust with my curls. I trust me more than a stylist I don't know. You gave me the courage to to do. It looks sooo much better. I was over 20 weeks since my last cut. I was due when the shutdown happened.Thank you!!! I need to watch your videos. You are wonderful.

The Amateur Mama: Thanks for this video, it's brilliant! I got given some hairdressing scissors for my birthday as Lockdown means no hairdresser! I followed your steps and am super pleased with my hair cut! Thanks a million!

Kelsey: Thanks for posting! I used to cut my curls myself when I was younger and that was the best they've ever looked. I got a lob cut about 6 months ago and pretty much ended up blowing my hair out twice a week. My 3a/3b curls turned into sad noodles. At my last cut, I could not convince my regular hairdresser to give me the kind of layers that I know my curls need. I just did your DIY cut (repeated with 3 separations) and I'm in love with my hair again.

Mariam El-sagheer: I chopped my hair today this way and I absolutely love it! I chopped more than I wanted to but it has been a while since I last cut it so was cool. Also, quick tip I actually did the hair tie thing up and down for every part of my hair that I'm planning to cut so even the lenghts that she cuts free hand. I did it with hair ties as my hands are kinda shaky and it turned out great. I hope this helps ;)

Norma Van Horn: Thank you so much for posting this video. This is my second time cutting my own hair, following your video, and I am so very delighted with the results. So appreciate it!

Soyla Barela: Oh bless you!!! Since we’ve been on lock down my curls were looking so thirsty! Your method has brought them back to life, and will never pay for another trim again!!

Michelle McIntyre: got the urge to cut my hair and after watching several videos, yours made me take the leap! it's still drying after a wash but I can already tell it feels much healthier. thanks for sharing!

Abigail Dumler: Thank you for this! Recently embraced my natural hair, of course, the week we go under a stay-at-home order. Realized rather quickly that I need a haircut badly and this is perfect until the salons reopen.

Cynthia Nelson: My curls are different than yours and my hair is thin but I jumped in and did your cut and it’s awesome! Thank you so much.

Erin Cordell: Have started trimming my curly hair during this stay at home time but now I need to really cut it. Thanks for your video. Gave me more confidence to start cutting my own hair. Have to honestly say it has been looking much better with my trimming than when I went to the salons. Curly haired girls know their hair best!

Isha Dwivedi: Thank you so much!! I did my haircut following your video! Loving the result!❤

Google User: You are the best! I haven’t had a haircut in three years. It’s super long and I only cut about an inch off, but with your help, I’m so happy with the results. Thank you

Erika Hart: This is awesome so easy to follow, my hair is now super long and I can’t wait to chop it all off thank you for this easy tutorial

Lauren Stendel: Such a great video! I have straight hair and have never cut hair before, but my mom has curly hair and needed a cut. I followed this and it came out pretty good! Thank you!

Sara Kasziewicz: Thank you so much for posting this! I was scheduled for appt when this all started and they cancelled but I’ve got some serious triangle head going on with my waves. I really just need some layers trimmed and not length so I may give this a try later! Thank you again!

Shannon Ziegler: Omg...I have shoulder length hair and just tried this since there are no salons open. It is probably the best my hair has looked in a loooong time!! Super easy if you follow right along! Thank you!!!

T: Thank you for this video! I’ve been searching YouTube trying to find a curly hair trim tutorial. Finally I found yours and your hair is similar to mine so I trusted you lol. That unicorn horn trim scared the crap out of me I had to call my mom and have her tell me to do it because I was nervous haha. Turned out great though! I really appreciate this video during quarantine since I can’t get to a salon. Thanks again!

Debora Lopes: Amei! Tão bem explicado que nem precisa saber o idioma

Rosetta Drone: Was looking for a vid on cutting curly layers, this was helpful, thanks! A couple comment technique things, though: cut below your fingers. This makes it so much easier to know how much you’re cutting off and helps you keep the sides even on the first try. Cutting above your fingers will make your cut shorter than you wanted every time. Cutting upwards into your ends will thin them. I can’t do that because I have finer hair than yours, it would look bad. For anyone with fine curls, cut the ends across on an angle instead.

Wravenly: I just did this and it worked so well thank you so much!!

Dianna Luther: Thank you!!! I appreciate this so much! And, As everyone before me has already said: Perfect timing! Safe Safe!

sandpiperr: This is great! Thank you so much. I was a little scared when I saw you brushing it with that paddle brush because I knew it would blow up like it did, but turns out there was a method to your madness. All the haircut tutorials on YouTube require really straight hair, and I don't own a hair straightener because I prefer my curls 24/7. However, that meant I couldn't do any of those because my hair in it's natural state is way too frizzy. Turns out you showed me that cutting curly hair is actually much easier!

Ms. Tucker: Thank you so much!!! My hair has been changing now that I'm older. I used have tight coil curls, but they started going away. I loved my curls! But what you said gave hope. So I cut it. Similar to what you did. And they are back!!!! Not tight coils, more like your hair. I couldn't be happier. So grateful. Thanks again.

chelsea: Just wanted to say, I tried trimming my curls by like an inch and half today following your tips in this video and it turned out beautifully! Thank you so much. I haven’t had a haircut in a while, and my curls look so refreshed. :)

Hala Buck: I’m so glad to finally find someone with hair like mine!!!!

Katie LovesLV: Soooooo beautiful! You're so lovely and humble. Thanks so much for helping us curly girls out during this time! X

Roxanna Torres: OMG I need a haircut so bad, I’ve been looking at YouTube videos and surfing the web like crazy for an easy to the point way of cutting curly hair and....here it is, I found your blog on Pinterest then got you on Instagram and now YouTube. I will follow this method to a T to get my curly cut. Thanks so much for sharing. I love it.

pandemonicpixie: I appreciate you sharing how to brush curly hair. I got my bio dad's curls and he ditched out after I was born. And my mom didn't know how to take care of curly hair. I went through middle school brushing out my curls and leaving it that way. It took me a while to realize finger brushing was all I needed. But even so, I never really knew a best practice to go about brushing my hair until your video. I'm looking forward to cutting my own hair, using your techniques. Maybe eventually getting rid of all the damage from never getting haircuts and bleaching. I think after regular trims for a while, and growing out my bleach, maybe I'll have hair as healthy as yours one day. Anyway, thanks!

Terry: I am going to try this tomorrow! Thank you so much for sharing this!

Glorie Hoerth: I'm just finding this video. My hair is curly and thin for anyone watching this. It turned out fantastic and was really easy. Thank you soooo much for sharing!

Shanika Anderson: You did a beautiful job. The cut looks great on you.

Denise Larkin: My hair has gotten curlier/frizzier as I’ve gotten older for some reason. (I’m 63 years) It’s gotten so out of control lately, so I’m definitely going to give this a try. Thank you.

Jarim Altamirano Rivera: I was looking for something like this ! Thank you

K P: Thank you so much for this video!! It worked out great!

discod: This is exactly what I do, it works perfectly.

Jill W: THANK YOU!! It worked! It looks and feels so healthy

Sydney Harrison: Ok, first time cutting my curly hair on my own. Loved this video!!!!!!

vintagepolkadots3: Thank you for this video I was able to cut my hair and my daughters hair and it looks amazing

Itzayana Murillo: Finally! A video with a curly girl with the same curls I have! I Wana cry haha it's been so hard trying to learn my curl type and now trying to learn how to give myself a haircut. Thank you for this awesome video!

themsdwallace: Omg I have been looking for a good home curly cut video, thank you!

NUR- SEY: Thanks for the video! Very helpful! I feel like I'm looking in the mirror! That's my hair!!

Gisela Restrepo: I love this! I'm gonna try it!

Terica Lynn: My hair is a lot like yours. Thanks for the video. I tried it and it turned out cute!

mazzymuso: Thank you. My hair is very similar to your hair texture so I might have to give it a go as we are in lockdown here in the UK xx

anita arya: OMG!!! My hair are wavy exactly like yours, never knew I can create such gorgeous curls out of them!!! But mine are not as tuck as yours. Is it worth giving a try?

have3kids too: I'm not sure if I commented on your video. I watch a hand full of these curly hair videos, yours included. I did this cut today, followed exactly what you did and feel like my hair is refreshed. I've done a unicorn cut before, normally on wet hair. I've discovered the tangle teaser brush, so doing this on dry hair was a lot easier with that. My initial reaction was omg, I cut too much! I only cut 1/2 and inch, if that off my length. I forget my curls spring up lol. But it's all good. I don't make quite as big of a triangle for bangs. Using a rubber band at the front of my head, one in the middle of the hair, and the one at the end really helped. And yes, doing this on a deep condition/wash day was perfect. I haven't trimmed my hair in a couple of months. I actually haven't had my hair cut my a professional in about three years. I just do it myself. Paying someone $50 plus to trim curls and not get what you want is super annoying. Thanks for the video.

Cris L: You have gorgeous hair!! Mine is more wavy than curly but I think this might work for me also. Thanks for sharing.

L PELAYO T: Yaiii!!! My daughter and I are trying this today!!! : ) Thanks for video!!!!

youparejo: You explain it so well!! Thanks youu

Jenn K: thank you finally found someone with similar curls to me and let me tell you I need a haircut so bad

Clara: We have very similar hair (except mine is auburn) so this video might help me. :) I was thinking of going shorter than this though (so that if I put it in a ponytail, the ponytail would be 3-4 inches long), have you ever tried this method but shorter? Btw you look a lot like the British TV presenter Katy Hill when you smile at the end of the video!

RockabyeCayleigh: My hair is like yours! Can’t wait to try this. What products do you use to get it that bouncy???

Will Ferrett: Okay, you’re beautiful, and this was SOOO helpful!!!!!

grayant: I want to learn how to trim my own hair because curly cuts are so expensive! Thank you so much for the video, can’t wait to try!

Melinda Payne: A well timed video! Thanks!

Stephanie Hopkins: I cut my own hair as well and cut in s similar fashion. I let it grow too long this last time. Also I shave the sides and my neck area to help thin it out because its so thick. You can't tell its shaved unless I wear it in a bun but it doesn't look bad when I do.

Claudia Miller: That is some hair, girl!! You are VERY blessed, hair-wise!

arni mellner: we have the same hair type so i’m totally gonna try it!!!

Jose Contreras: Wow!! I am so going to try this. Thanks so much

Energizer Energizer: I enjoy your videos and i want more !!!!!!!! Please make a new one with your current routine !!! ❣

Raf Alegre: You are soooo pretty and your hair is amazing! Keep smiling! :)

JJM: Finally found someone with the same hair as mine. Subscribed you right away.

Alka Joseph: finally found some easy curly haircut !!! thanksss

Ky Thompson: Your curls are amazing!

Val: Came out good. Thanks for the tips

PinkbubblegumPop 💖: I do it layer by layer brayding my hair first ♥️

Kat Haley: Very helpful thanks !

thepuredrop79: My god, your hair is beautiful.

The Ad School - School for Advertising Excellence: you are absolutely stunning ..what eyes...simply gorgeous..and great tips for cutting hair :)

Rebecca Perrin: Great video... my cut was a success!!

Sandi Hester: Best tutorial I've seen on this!

LARP Dude: Stuck at home with my parents due to social distancing and I've got the urge to cut my hair very short. It's weird seeing another person with my kind of hair, but wonderful!

Linda Esposito: Your hair is BEAUTIFUL . My hair is to my chin but doing a little of watching you I will use ur procedure . I need to take more time to do it.Thanks

Lindsey Star: I do exactly what you do but the hair that comes down over my ears is always still long and it gets weighed down. What am I doing wrong that I have all that bulk in that section on the side? Maybe it’s just my hair. But I get that flat root triangle look no matter what I do. I do follow strict curly girl method as well. Thanks

tgif1207: Can you also share your haircare routine and products you use? Your hair is so shiny and healthy looking!

Lisa Winnard: Great tute! Can you tell me what products you use on your hair after you've washed it please? And which shampoo/conditioner do you use.

Tammy Brown Barajas: Looks great TFS

Justme77: I have hair like yours, sort of. When you pulled out the brush I had a panic attack. I'm very well aware of what a hairbrush does to our hair when it's dry!

Talia: I’ve been cutting my own hair since Covid started in March 2020 and I’ve used this video about eight times now…

Akshaya Nedumananji: Looks exactly like my hair!

Kelley Cabral: My hair is still wet so time will tell how it comes out. Do you cut the bangs even if you don't have bangs. I have always had layered hair but not bangs in forever. I didn't do the bangs part. Unsure if it is just if you have bangs or not. Thank-you for this video. I hope my success is as good as others. I think I did cut more than I wanted off though. Time will tell.

S. Liliana Landivar: i loved !!! I cut my hair ..so easy and I like more that usually !!!! thanks for your video

Lorena: Which product do you use for your curls? I use the Beauty without Cruelty leave in conditioner but is a little too heavy for my curls. Thanks
