Hello, everybody - i am jamie, jo and welcome, or welcome back to my channel today we are going to be chatting about curly haircuts uh. This is one of my most requested videos and most asked questions. So i'm just gon na be giving you my tips and tricks on what to ask for at the hair salon to ensure that you have a haircut that is going to suit your face suit, your hair type and it something that you're going to really like. Firstly, i want to just disclose that, obviously i am not a professional, but over the years i've just gained a few tips and tricks that i want to share with you that could possibly help you. Let'S also remember that everybody's hair type and curl pattern and curl density is different, so what works for me may not necessarily work for you, but i do hope that i can help you out in any way possible. The last thing i want to disclose - which i probably will get a few comments about - is my hair right now i had my hair cut about two to three weeks ago now and i'm definitely super super happy with the shape. I am not as happy with my actual curl pattern at the moment i have been struggling a little bit with my hair over the last few months because i'm currently in a musical meaning, my hair is under a wig cap every night in pin curls. So it's kind of been manipulated in a way that isn't the best for my hair pattern um. So i have been struggling a little bit and not to mention it's also winter. So and it's been raining so i've been having a lot of frizz um. But this thing, but these things are really normal, guys so yeah. I do not have perfect hair days every day. Today is not a perfect hair day, but i definitely don't think it's the worst hair day. So, let's hop into things just remember: this is going to be super personal to my hair um. So my hair is type 2 uh. Sorry is type 3a hair. It used to be type 3 b hair, but things have changed over the last few years as well. Not sure just this is what it is now um and i have quite fine hair but uh. It'S not super super thick, i wouldn't say my hair is thick at all. You know it's actually quite like thin um, but because of the type of hair i have and the haircuts i can achieve this more voluminous. Look. Let'S also remember that each haircut is going to be different. What i personally went for for this haircut was wanting to keep as much length possible because my hair is pretty pretty long right now, whilst adding a little bit more layers into my hair to kind of frame my face and give me more of a rounded shape. It was starting to get really flat at the top and then really puffy down the bottom. So i wanted to just even things out a little bit and give myself a little bit more volume and shape up top whilst keeping as much length as possible. So that's exactly what i wanted when i went into this haircut now. Let'S talk about stylists, my hairdresser is my auntie she's been cutting my hair since i was little so she really understands curly hair, my hair, what my hair's going to do when it's cut and all that type of stuff, so she's really really great and i'm very Lucky to have someone that i can trust um. I know that is not necessarily the case for a lot of people, so i would suggest doing your research on hairdressers trying your best to find someone that is experienced with curly hair and being really specific about what you want. Um, so that you can have the best outcome possible. I did film a little bit of my haircut to show you um, but it's quite technical in terms of what my auntie talks about um, because she really understands my hair and what my hair needs. But to put it plainly, in really simple terms, is yes uh. We went for keeping as much length on the bottom whilst getting a nice rounded shape. As i said before, i'm just gon na move back um. I want you to notice um how we got this nice shape, because it's very easy to cut layers and then end up with like gappy boxy hair. Do you know what i mean? So we went for around three to four layers. Um we've got this top layer here. As you can see, this layer is a lot shorter um and this is to really frame my face. Then we went for a few other layers in between, but as you can see, they all taper in really nicely into a nice point. You never want to have a straight cut at the bottom of curly hair to avoid looking like a triangle. But all you really really want to focus on getting nice soft points at the end of each layer so that they blend into one another and they can come into this nice shape at the bottom. So when i bring my head to the front you can see, it's got a nice shape into the point and also when i take my and also when i take my hair all to the back. It also goes into a nice point. That'S what we really really focused on in simple terms, or i want to kind of come up close as much as possible and show you. This is my shortest layer here. This is my next layer here. This is my next layer here and then we've got the longest part of my hair, so everything is really seamlessly blended into nice. Rounded points that is what gives such a nice rounded voluminous. Look to my hair, also um something my auntie does is kind of. Like twist cut my hair. She also does never bluntly cuts hair. She chips into it to ensure you get that messy. Look that is going to give you a little bit more volume, especially around the top of your head now in terms of a fringe. I actually do have a little bit of bangs going on right now, but when my hair is out, i kind of like to hide them, and then i like to bring them out when my hair is up. So here are my bangs guys um. I kind of did this myself after the haircut, because i just felt like doing it um, but i wanted to talk to you about what to do and what not to do so. I have a pretty narrow forehead, as you can see, there's not like a lot of space, it's just like quite a small forehead in general. So what you don't want to do is be taking bangs all the way out to the side of your hair um. All the way to here that is just going to create a massive gap in your hair, and it's not going to look full and volume voluminous at all, so make sure you are taking into consideration how narrow your forehead is and do not take the fringe wider Than how wide your head is um to avoid looking gappy um, i like to just keep my fringe really nice and small. This isn't a full heavy fringe at all. This one is kind of something that will disappear in about a month or so um, but it's really cute for the moment just make sure you're keeping it the same shape as your head and remember: curly, hair bounces up a lot so do not be snipping. Your hair here at all, when you stretch it out kind of like top of my lip um, but also that depends on how much your hair bounces back as well. My hair is going to bounce up uh. So as soon as you cut your hair and get all these dead ends off, it's going to spring up even more so if you want to keep as much length as possible make sure you are really telling your hairdresser, my hair is going to bounce up. My hair is going to bounce up, make sure that they know that, so that they're not chopping off too much and also remember you can always go back a second time. If you want to readjust something in your hair, you don't need to get it perfect. The first time - and i would avoid going to scissor crazy, the first time and cutting off too much hair, and but rather, you know being a little bit more sparing with how much you're cutting off so that if you do dry it and feel like you can Chop a little bit more off, then you have that option so make sure you keep your options open. I also have a few questions about how often i cut my hair. I don't really have like a routine schedule of like every two months. I cut my hair um kind of just when i feel like it's getting a little bit out of shape or it's getting a little bit dead at the ends. I just go and cut it um, so i don't really have like a schedule. I'M not too strict about that stuff. I just kind of use my eye, and another thing i want to address is: i definitely do not personally recommend dry cutting curly hair, even though some people swear by this, which is fine if you have a hairdresser. That is amazing at dry cutting, then that is fine um, my hairdresser isn't necessarily experiencing dry cutting, and also personally, i feel like dry cutting can be a little bit more risky because you can end up with just lopsided hair, depending on how your hair dried on The day because curly hair dry is different every single time. So, if you're going to cut your hair just according to how it dried, once you might end up with completely different sides, uh sided lopsided hair. You could end up with gaps in your hair and etc. So i personally do not like to dry cut curls. One thing i get questions about a lot is cutting your hair at home and tips for cutting your hair at home. I'M i'm really sorry, but i do not have any i've never cut my own hair. More than like a silly little fringe um, so i really am not qualified at all to give you uh tips on how to cut your own hair, because i do not want to be responsible for you messing up your hair, i would visit maine's by mel she's, A hairstylist herself and i think, she's got a few videos on how to cut your hair at home. So maybe check that out last up, i'm going to show you a clip of my hair being cut with some music overlaid and then my auntie at the end. Explaining what she did in a little bit more technical terms, if you want to show that to your hairdresser right before, i show you that i'm going to give you a little 360 of my hair. If you want to show that to your hairdresser as well side back other side, bye do okay. So through the back we did increased layering with a station with a traveling guide. Then we brought that over to the front. We cut your bangs shag, whatever you want to call. It then brought that through we did an over direction um with the stationary guide, bringing everything up angling it forward so that when it all comes back, it flows beautifully and we've got jj's front happening. A gentle blend through the front not cutting too far back, otherwise, we take out too much density from her sides and she ends up with a very stringy perimeter, and we can see that this is gon na, be fun lots of fun lots of movement, okay, everybody! I hope that you enjoyed this video and i really hope that it has helped you out in any way. Please comment below if you have any other questions, and i will really try my best to answer them for you. Let me know if these tips and tricks have helped you out in any way, and i love you guys, stay tuned for more curly videos and other videos too, and make sure you check me out on instagram as well. Thanks for watching everybody,

Lynda Garcia: Hi, I’m new to curly hair. I’ve never had curly hair in my life but two years ago I was diagnosed with cancer. After chemotherapy I was completely bald and my hair grew back curly. They call it chemo curls. I honestly hated it but watching your videos and using your techniques I have come to love my curls. Thank you so much for sharing!

toplobster: What I learned: Don't take out too much from the sides when cutting your own hair. This will kill your volume.

MOMables - Laura Fuentes: This was SO helpful! After having my hair treated with Keratin for 5y, I’m ready to go back to my natural curls, which are incredibly similar to yours. I’m patiently washing out my keratin. Wish me luck!

Stormy Day: BTW, being a 3A or 3B doesn’t only involve the size of your curl pattern, it’s also texture. They say 3A has “street chalk-sized curls” but that is not always true, the curl sizes vary and, as you know, many people are not only one curl type throughout their entire head. The fact that when you comb your hair soaking wet and it looks straight tells you, you’re a 3A. Look at Mell from Manes By Mell. She is a 3B and her hair, soaking wet, still holds a curl pattern. Every 3B I know has this, and when their hair is dry, there is a coarser texture to it. Our 3A hair dries to a soft texture. That’s because the majority of 3As have fine individual strands. 3A is a very wide range of curl patterns. I suppose it was easier to make 3 levels for each of the 4 types, but there should be 3 levels of 3A alone! If you look at 1A, 1B and 1C, they have no curl, and are separated by texture and density. This is actually mostly true of the other 3 types, as well. Of course, this doesn’t mean there aren’t 3As with very thick hair, Mell’s sister, for example. They say curl pattern is as different as a fingerprint, so when André Walker developed the system he did the very best he could to classify it all and it is extremely helpful, but it’s only a guide. Many other things affect your hair including diet, stress levels, health, hormones, environmental issues, products, medication, etc. ♥️

Lou Len: I’m not sure if it happens to everyone with curly hair, but whenever I cut my curly hair, it takes about 3-4 weeks for my curl pattern to get back to normal. I was curious to know if it happens to anyone else and surprisingly, it does and it’s called curl shock. Who would’ve thought your hair looks beautiful as always and the curly pattern will return ☺️ lovely video as always

kcald9891: I never know what to ask for when I get my hair cut and usually come home crying and try to fix it myself. Your Aunt's demo and explanation was especially helpful, and I'm feeling more confident about trying to get a professional cut again soon. Thanks so much for posting!!

az gallery: Omg I’ve been missing these vids. You really inspire me to actually wanna take care of my curls! Thank you so much for inspiring me to start my curly journey and make my hair liveee it’s lifeeee!❤️❤️❤️ we love you jay thank you for your lifesaving tips ❤️

Rachelle P: Wow looks great. Being a hairstylist myself, watching your aunt work her magic was a treat. She did a beautiful job as always

Lou Len: Yess!! I completely agree with dry cutting. I prefer a wet cut but now all the hairdressers want to do a dry cut. Definitely agree with what you said and if your stylist is experienced in dry cutting then go for it. I had the worst experience last year getting a curly dry cut

Ariel: Yay!! Thank you Jayme!! This couldn't have come at a better time! I'm getting my first deva cut next week & I'm sooo excited!!

Natalie Rivera: This very helpful. I have 2c-3a curls and my hairstylist told me that i don’t have the right curly hair for a curly cut. (I talked to an actual curly hair stylist and she said otherwise second opinions are awesome) I often struggle with shape because I part my hair to the side. I’d love to have a more rounded shape with nice layering especially since my hair is THICCCC

Stormy Day: Wow! I love this! Thank you so much, you are so generous, bringing us into your life and taking the time for us, knowing how busy you are. We appreciate you immensely. ♥️

Bobby Luna: You may not be a professional, but girl I come to you for everything about curly hair♥️☺️your more informative and down to earth, as well as you know about the struggles ,I’m all honesty your better than a professional, last time I went to one and they messed my curls and cut up :(.

𝙸𝚝𝚊𝚌𝚑𝚒☯︎︎: thank you so much for this tutorial! no matter what i do for volume my curls never get enough volume even if its short.

Angela T: Your Auntie did a fabulous job! Looks absolutely gorgeous

LivyCat28: Beautiful hair lol You helped a lot with my hair journey <3

Lindsey Mae: My birthday is coming up in September, I need something new and I absolutely love your cut! Definitely showing this to the hair dresser. ❤️

Akaysha Forlong: totally want to get it done but I straighten my hair for events sometimes and was wondering what your hair looks like when it’s straightened with that cut

Blogueira sem Grife: Meu deus!! Acho que estou apaixonada!!! Como você é linda, Parabens!!! Amei seu vídeo maravilhosa aaaaa ❤❤ Inspiração para meu canal aqui no Brasil, muito obrigada <3

Minna Uyeda: Your not so perfect hair are my hair goals. So fluffy, defined and soft curls!

Eden Shambrook: I just got my haircut before this video came out at a normal hairdresser and the experience was ✨i n t e r e s t i n g ✨

Anna Rivera: My hair is exactly like yours (porosty, density and all that stuff), just changes the color. This video is PERFECT for me

Trish Pulley: I just wanted to say why I now only get dry cuts. The hair all around the edges and primarily underneath my hair is way curlier than the hair on top at the crown. Imagine how much a 3B curl springs up when dry. Now imagine that same length of hair but it only springs up how much a 2C or 2B would spring up. If I let the stylist wet cut my hair, the curls on the bottom will spring up way more than the hair on top of them, creating a layer that, dry, is 3 to 5 inches shorter than the hair laying over it. No bueno! It absolutely must be cut dry and styled so that the next time I dry it, all the layers sit where they need to.

Ruby Sweetapple: your hair is GORGEOUS!! I am thinking of getting a similar hair cut but I wear my hair in two dutch braids like 95% of the time so I'm worried that if I cut my hair with layers then I won't be able to put it back into braids anymore

uzui tengen’s 4th wife: i had my big chop not so long ago so once i get my length back i’m so doing this (my hair is a triangle rn unfortunately )

angie: yayyyy i was waiting for the video!!! your hair looks pretty happy to follow your journey on ig and here x

Idkun: it's the part when I specifically tell the hairdresser everything I want and how I want it and show them pictures, but still end up with something completely different for me ... #curlyhairproblemsneverend

Amy Martinez: thanks so much for this video! i'm getting a curly cut after my exams and i'm soooo excited

Simone: So, basically, I just need to get my hairdresser to watch this video

Queenofstitches Warrior: That’s exactly how i cut my own hair I was a hairdresser and it is a lot of work and pain in my arms but i can do it Since covid they are over my bra strap so someone has to cut the ends below first When i went to the salon they would first blow dry and straighten my hair before cutting it i don’t like that and not needed imo, sure i have a lot and thick hair but if i can do it myself without than they can too

Joy: How did you get your hair in the back so long and strong? Mine is literally broken all in the back

S.S Flower: Thanks for this very helpful video. I want to get a haircut myself and I worry that they'll cut too much. God bless you

MaybeYes Sure: Very helpful! thank you

Aishwarya Rao Nandkumar: the way this came out the day after i cut my hair

Ifa Iftikhar: You make me love my curly hair. Thank you so much.

Asande Mzizi: How is your run in Hamilton? I’ve been seeing reviews and it looks like it’s going really well, I hope your having fun :) <3

Jaileen cruz: Yay I'm early your hair cut is beautiful thanks for posting I needed this video❤ love you Jayme ❤

Alayna Diamond: Help please!!!!! Growing my curls has been a serious challenge. They bounce up so much my hair looks shoulder length when it’s actually at my mid back. I have fine 3a/b hair, I just don’t know how to get my curls to be as long as my hair is when straight. Any curl growth or hair loss help you can give would be great. I know food and internal health and stress is a big part of it, but how do you get your curls so long and healthy?

Mal1emk: You’re hair is so pretty omg

A PIMP NAMED SLICKBACK: I was just thinking about if I should cut my hair or let it grow and what do I see when I check my phone Jayme uploading a video about cutting hair I’m for sure cutting my hair now thanks jayme ❤️

IvaF: I wish I had her aunty as my hairdresser I got a cut recently and tried the dry cut. The worst experience ever!!! They messed up so bad that I am thinking not doing curly any more and just doing straight hair, I'm so embarrassed with how it looksjust when I was embrassing my curls and had it so long

Maya Cynthia: I tried to get this & ended up with a botched hair cut.. I’m in the denial stage & have just been laughing about it. Tears are coming soon tho

Adriana DeLia: How long did it take you to grow your hair so long?

Mari Souza: Lindaaa❤️

ee: Hiii the top of my hair is straight but then it instantly goes to a mix of 3a, 2c and 2b curls. Is there a way I can get it to curl at the top too?

Arwa Alaa: You are 20k away from 300 subs congratulations jay ❤️❤️

Bella Bam: this came JUST in time thank u <33333

Lailani Rodriguez: Perfect timing! Thanks.

Tiny Dawg: First LOVE YOU! You are beautiful INSIDE and out. I watched the part of the video where she cuts your hair and of course it's very technical but it seems to me it's almost similar to the unicorn cut where everything is taken to the front. am I correct? Would you ask your auntie?

Karo: Hello Jayme, I am from México, I love your hair, actually my hair is the same type as yours, how do you hey your hair to grow? I love your accent by the way

Lucia ;: i got bangs last year and the man who cut my hair was certified but he was really rough with my head and he created a weird gap with the bangs they were so cute but he cut some parts too short past my actual forehead

Tere Lin: I want my hair cut like that

Gilliane Piczon: Hi i'm just curious, how do you wash your hair, do you flip your head downwards?? :)

Liv LUV: heyyyy!!! i’m such a big fan. i have a few ideas/requests for videos: a video including a bit about your vocal mist (i just ordered one) a video about church outfit ideas a bible studies video (also i’m also maronite catholic and lebanese)

Dave Marshall: Love this video. Wish aunties hands were not out of frame for actual finger angle cutting.
