How To Do A Dominican Roller Set On Natural Curly Hair At Home

Hey loves, in this video I show how i do a dominican roller set my hair at home. I like roller setting my curly hair to straighten it without direct heat as a safer alternative to using direct heat. I prefer roller setting, than to use my older method of straightening which was to blow dry first and then use a flat iron. The roller set method causes less heat damage and is much safer on the hair.

Hello, ladies welcome back to much more than beauty in today's video, I'm going to be showing you how I do my Roller set at home. So if you're interested keep watching all right. So, let's begin you want to start with freshly washed hair and you can use any shampoo or conditioner that you like just make sure you detangle your hair before parting, your hair. So I'm using a rat tail comb - and I section my hair into three sections right now: I'm rolling the middle section, I'm going to be using the grey rollers that I got from Sally's. So I like to start by rolling starting from the ends making sure to smooth down my ends and then tightly rolling it upwards and using a large bobby pin. You got to secure it in place. Once you have finished rolling the middle rope, you can pick whichever other side you want to start with, and what I like to do is I like to put the gray roller against my part, to make sure that it's not too wide, because I don't want hair Coming off the sides of the rollers once I created the part, the next part is to split that section. In half and a top section I like to run the rat tail comb through it just to make sure it's nice and smooth and tangle free and then I'm gon na grab my grey roller and I wrap my ends. First, making sure it's smooth and then tightly rolling it upwards toward my scalp and using big large bobby pins, I'm going to use about two of them to securely. Pin it in place once I got one bobby pin in I go in the other direction and place another large bobby, pin to make sure it doesn't shift or move around using the same technique for the bottom section again, I'm just going to roll my ends. Really. Nice and tight around the roller and then continue to roll it up towards my scalp and I'm actually going to connect these two rollers using one large bobby pin like so as you can see, some of the hair could fall from the ruler. But what I like to do to fix that problem. Is I like to use small bobby pins and pin it where it's needed so for that back right section, I'm going to continue rolling each part, making sure that each part doesn't have too much hair in it and definitely not too little hair in it. Also, because the more hair you have the longer it will take to dry and the less hair, the more rollers you will have in your head and then you won't be able to fit in the dryer. So I'm just going to continue with the same technique until my whole, entire head is completely roller set because the length of my hair, I tried to use bigger, rollers, the green ones and the rollers were just so big and I couldn't fit my head in the Dryer, so I ended up having to take all the green ones out and stick with the gray ones, because with the gray ones and my whole head could fit in the dryer, as you might already be able to tell I'm not exactly a professional roller setter. There are different ways to Roller set your hair different techniques, but I'm just sharing with you. Ladies, the way, I do it if you come across any dry sections of hair be sure to moist in it before continuing to roll and once you're done completely velour setting your hair, you can go back and bobby, pin any hairs that are falling off and well. Ladies, this is what my Roller set looks like before drying my hair. I like to secure my entire Roller set using a hair net, which I found at Sally's Beauty. The net will prevent the rollers from shifting around during the drying process. If you're going to try Roller set in your hair for the first time, I absolutely recommend that you get this hair net, because it's really gon na save a lot of frustration. When your roller starts falling off, it's really affordable less than two dollars all right. So now that they net is on it's time to dry, I'm going to be using my golden hot bonnet dryer that I also got from Sally's, and so I'm just going to connect the hose to the actual cap. And then I'm just going to stretch the cap over my head and I'm going to pull on the laces in the back to make sure it's nice and tight so that air doesn't escape depending on your hair length. You might want to drive for about an hour to two all right now that my hair is all dry, it's time to take off the net and start removing each roller carefully, just start by removing the large bobby pins, and then your hair is just going to Start falling off, because if your hair is completely dry, it should be nice and silky and easy to remove the rollers so far. This is how my hair is looking. I'M loving the results already now, I'm just going to continue removing the bobby pins and removing each roller until I removed every single roller off my head all right, ladies well, this is the result. I absolutely love how it turned out: it's shiny and silky, so smooth and so soft I just started doing roller sets not too long ago. So don't get discouraged, ladies, if you don't get it down. Pat the first time it's going to take about two three tries before it starts to be good, something I like to do, which is absolutely optional. Is I like to use a flat iron to kind of straighten and smooth down my roots, because usually the roots are not exactly as straight as the rest of the hair? So, just using you know your regular flat iron, you can just use that on your roots, to straighten it once you're all done and if you do have dry hair. I recommend using an oil all throughout your hair, make sure to use a oil that is nourishing all right. Ladies all done so this is the final finished look from my roller set. I hope you, ladies and enjoyed watching this video and I'm sorry if it wasn't so easy to understand. Thank you so much for watching. You, ladies, have a great day and please be sure, to check out my other videos. Thank you. Bye!

E M: Great video ! On point ! I’m so done with these salons that charge so much for a not all that finish . Great tutorial . from nyc

Mary Jane: Try using a smoothing serum like aragan or a smoothing oil before as well, It will stay longer too. Also dont use bobby pins they leave indents. Use roller clips they sell them at Sally's too.

Janae M.: Your hair always looks so good!!

Ginger Chung: That is so cool. I am not the best at parting so it's nice to see what you did for your curls.

MsAvalon25: Great video love! "Not a professional roller setter" you did a fantastic job I was just about to ask you if you went to cosmetology school! Love this video! xoxo

MsPreciousMarie: LOVE these curls!!

Chris: I wish I was patient when it comes to curling my hair. I've tried rollers before but get really tired & frustrated. I love using a curling wand and have found that it actually makes my hair look shiny and healthy. I use it about once a week and get lots of compliments. Anyway, I love how your hair turned out!

nicadrmar: Gorg! I do a rollerset every 2 weeks or so but the one thing I have never mastered is clip/bobby pin placement so I just use the plastic holder. It easy to connect them once the first is in but I can't get the first one not to slip and slide and stay steady. Any pointers?

Speechiegirl1: When I lived in NYC I taught myself how to do a Dominican roller set. Now I do it all the time. At night to maintain curls, I pin curl each curl and wrap it with a silk scarf

Chenika Alana: your curly pattern is so nice!

Jade Ily: can you please do a makeup tutorial on the makeup in this video i loooooved it <3

NaturalHairObsession: Lol! I just did the same video! Great results!

Ann Fernandes: You did a wonderful job!!! Just a FYI when you take the rollers out and put your oil maybe then you rap it instead of flat iron it that’s trust and believe another look

ladynefertitibk: Beautiful results.

N3ssa212Linda: Hi beauty! I have the same blow dryer as you but the air isn't reaching the front or my sides...? any suggestions? i feel the heat on the back center of my head. please help! thanks! <3

Aisha Santos: You can try the black rollers. I have both the gray and black ones, which is bigger and you can still fit I'm the dryer. I love your videos btw

Jameka Moreland: What kind of hair products did you use on this roller set?

MsNaturalTresses: This is truly a skill and I fail every time!!! lol

Imadeayoutube tocommentonavideo: Omg when I was in school for cosmetology I just couldn't get the friggin size of the rollers to match the parting! my teacher always had me redoing them when I had a whole set done. It was so frustating, I can only imagine what it would be on my OWN hair. Lol, but I will deffo. be trying it out. I mean I'm more mature and your results are amazing and we have around the same hair type.
