Do your curls ever look like this, where you have a bunch of frizz and tangles after washing it that you then have to try and fix when you're styling and trying to apply your products? Well, today, i'm going to help you identify some of the mistakes that you might be making when you are washing your hair, specifically that are leading to a lot of frizz. This is the second video in the series all about mistakes that are causing a frizz. So if you didn't see the last video, i will link it for you down below, but in that video we talk about mistakes that are causing frizz when you're styling. So when you're applying your products and styling your curls, if you're new to my channel welcome, my name is gina, and here we talk all about naturally curly hair. I love talking about product ingredients, the science of hair and really helping you problem solve that way. You can achieve healthier hair. I also wanted to thank twist for partnering with me for this video i'm using some of my favorite products from the brand that i've been using for a while. Now i'm so excited to be using some very affordable products that are more accessible. I also got a discount code for you all. So if you want to save even more money on these affordable products, i will have that in the description box below. So let's go ahead and get started. I first wanted to make a little disclaimer. There is no right or wrong way to style your curls i've said this before, but i really just wanted to reiterate that the mistakes that i'm listing here are not necessarily mistakes. If you like your results, i'm simply sharing some things that i have noticed that i have tweaked in my routine to really help cut down on the frizz. So if you like, your results, definitely keep doing what you're doing, but if you're really struggling with your curls. Hopefully this might help you identify what could be causing the frizz. If that's something that you're looking to tame. So i first wanted to give a little summary of what we're trying to do here. So what is the goal when we're washing our hair and what are we trying to prevent with curly hair when you're washing it? The first one is friction whenever we're washing our curls there's lots of friction happening. So that's one of the main things that we're going to be trying to prevent here and at number two is tangles. A lot of you, i'm sure, experience tangles, especially in between washes. So when you go to wash your hair there's already a lot of tangles there and washing can lead to a lot of tangles. So we're going to be talking about how to reduce friction and tangles and then there's also damage. So we want to obviously prevent damage when we're washing our hair. Build up is another big one that often contributes to frizz. So we're going to be talking about that and last but not least, dryness we're trying to prevent our curls from becoming dried out from shampooing. We know that shampooing can lead to some dryness, so the first mistake that you might be making that could be causing lots of friction. Tangles and frizz is not detangling. Your hair prior to shampooing, so shampoo raises the ph of our hair and the cuticle layer then becomes lifted. This also happens when we wet our hair and it swells. The cuticle then becomes more raised, resulting in increased friction. You might also notice more shedding during shampooing, which then just makes tangles worse, especially if you have high porosity hair, where the cuticle layer has been compromised if it's been damaged or if it's just sitting more raised, and not quite as lowered as somebody with low porosity Hair, you also get a lot more friction if you have coarse hair. So if your hair is more wiry and more brittle feeling, if you have coarse textured hair, then you will definitely want to work on detangling. Your hair, before shampooing detangling prior to shampooing, prevents more tangles from forming during the shampoo process resulting in less breakage, which often then leads to frizz a lot of times. If you have breakage, you'll have small little hairs, sticking up all over your head and those are really hard to tame and lay down so a lot of times. Frizz is due to breakage, or sometimes it's also, new growth, where you just have shorter hairs poking through detangling prior to shampooing, also allows you to really get down to your scalp to more thoroughly cleanse without the knots in the way, it's so much easier to shampoo. Your hair, when it's been detangled, definitely try it. If you have not already so, there are two ways to detangle your hair prior to shampooing. The first one is by dry detangling with some oil and the second one is detangling with some conditioner in the shower. When your hair is wet before you shampoo, so i like to dry detangle. So that's what i did for this wash day. I just add some oil to my hair and then i section it off and detangle it gently with my fingers. This made the biggest difference in my hair when i was still transitioning away from heat damage and trying to recover my hair, because that oil really helped to protect my hair from the shampooing process. This also reduces a lot of breakage because her hair is the weakest. When it's wet so it makes more sense, sometimes to dry detangle your hair. Now your hair is also less elastic when it is dry, so that's a whole nother thing, but just try it out and see what works best for you. But if you do have very damaged, hair or hair that has been like bleached or processed, then you'll definitely want to try out dry detangling until it gets healthier. Just make sure that you have some oil on your hands, don't try and do this without oil, because you do need some slip. But if your curls are very tight, then you might not be able to dry detangle even with oil. So you would want to do the conditioner process that i'm also going to show you, so the next method is to detangle wet hair with conditioner in the shower prior to shampooing. So, as i mentioned, i like to do both so i first dry detangle. Then i get in the shower, get my hair wet and i still do a second detangle when my hair is wet. So at this point my hair is still dirty. I still haven't shampooed, but i just want to remove all of those existing loose hairs and get rid of any of the tangles. That way, it's way easier to shampoo and your hair will tangle up some after you get it wet just because that changes the structure of the hair. So that's why i have to detangle again once i get my hair wet, the next mistake is shampooing before conditioner. So we're going to apply some conditioner to our hair first before we shampoo, as i mentioned, so why is this important so aside from detangling? First, conditioner also helps to lower the ph of our hair to then smooth the cuticle and help protect it from damage which then leads to more breakage and frizz. So it's really great. If you have high porosity hair to first apply some conditioner, we're always trained to. First, shampoo then apply conditioner, which you do still want to use conditioner afterwards, but using conditioner first can really help to protect the hair from the shampoo process, not only detangle, but it helps to lower the cuticle even more to help give it more manageability. So you don't get as much friction during shampooing. This is game. Changing if you haven't tried it definitely give it a try. Even if you don't want to do the detangling process at least apply some conditioner work that, through your hair and then shampoo and you'll notice, a big difference, applying conditioner or even a deep conditioner, if you would like, is also a really great way to prep your Hair for clarifying so i'm going to be clarifying today and whenever i use a more strong clarifying shampoo that really works to remove buildup. I definitely want to have some protective layer on my hair, whether that's just an oil or the conditioner or both so conditioner is going to help provide even more elasticity to our hair. We want that elasticity to prevent our hair from just snapping and breaking immediately so conditioner smoothes, the cuticle, whereas shampoo raises it. So that's why it's good to condition first, the next mistake you might be making that can definitely lead to frizz is not clarifying it. To remove buildup, so if you're, not working in clarifying shampoos, you might have some product, or even some mineral buildup on your hair from hard water. So one way to tell is if you notice that after you shampoo, your hair still doesn't feel clean. It has kind of like that sticky residue feeling on it, or if you find that you have to shampoo more than one time, then you might have build up. So you might need a stronger shampoo to help. Remove that one that says that it's clarifying or you can even look for a chelating shampoo if you do have hard water, but the one i'm going to be using today is from twists it's the hit reset light clarifying shampoo. So this is a really great clarifying shampoo. This has easily become one of my favorite clarifying shampoos that i'm always using in rotation, so i will usually clarify about every other wash. It just depends on what products that you use. If you use products that have silicones or have polyquates in them, or just anything that really adheres to the hair, you might want to work in clarifying in your routine. You don't want to solely be co-washing that can lead to a lot of build up on the scalp and on the hair. Build up can actually lead to frizz because it can block moisture from properly absorbing into your hair plus. If you have that gunky layer on your hair, your products are just not going to go on right and then you can get more frizz and also leads to a very dull dry appearance. So we want to make sure our hair is free of build up. That way, it can properly get moisturized. So the twist clarifying shampoo contains ammonium lauryl sulfate, which is a very effective cleanser. I have found that this works great at removing any type of product buildup. This can even remove silicones if you do use those in your routine. It'S important, though, to not over cleanse your hair, so you don't want to use any really harsh sulfates or to be doing this too frequently. This is not going to be too drying, though, for your hair, especially if you use a conditioner first, i don't find it dries out. My hair, which is half medium, half coarse and tends to get very dry. This doesn't dry it out over cleansing or using too many clarifying shampoos can also lead to frizz. You just don't want to be over cleansing and stripping your hair all the time, because that will just cause dryness. The next mistake that might be causing frizz when you're washing that you might not have thought of is washing your hair upside down. I know so many people do this and i know it's more convenient, sometimes to just wash your hair upside down over the tub. But if you think about it, our cuticle layer actually points in a downward motion, so the cuticle layer is like shingles on a roof and they kind of layer and point downwards. So if you're washing your hair upside down plus you're wetting it so the cuticle is swelling and you're using a shampoo. So that's just going to have so much more friction, which leads to even more tangles and potentially more frizz as well. I also noticed that when i wash my hair upside down, i get way more shedding and tangles. It just gets so matted and i think because my hair tends to be more high porosity and it's also coarse in some areas, which leads to even more friction. And it's also low density. I find that low density hair really struggles to do anything upside down. So i highly recommend shampooing in the upright position, if possible in the shower. I know it's not always possible. I don't always do this, but i try, whenever i possibly can so when you're in the upright position, you're more able to keep the cuticle smooth in that downward position, resulting in less friction and when you're shampooing. You want to focus that shampoo on the roots of your hair and really working to massage that gently into your hair and then letting the shampoo just rinse down your ends. Afterwards, you don't want to be shampooing aggressively and pulling the ends of your hair up to the top. That'S just going to create so much friction and frizz. That'S not necessary the ends and the lengths of your hair can definitely get properly cleansed just by the shampoo rinsing over them. You don't need to cause any more friction, so just be very gentle and work slowly to gently massage your scalp with the pads of your fingers, so the next common cause of frizz when you're washing your hair, is skipping conditioner. Now, i'm sure a lot of you. Don'T skip conditioner, but there's some people out there that might not be using conditioner. It'S definitely essential to then smooth the cuticle and lower that ph back down to its natural acidic level. So you need that conditioner to help provide that manageability and that slip after you, shampoo conditioner, is designed to be used after shampoo. So, as i mentioned, i do still use some conditioner after i shampoo now normally, if i'm going to be deep conditioning, i will skip conditioning unless, if i just need to get rid of some tangles and just fix my hair before i get out of the shower, If i want to deep condition out of the shower, so sometimes i use both, but sometimes they'll just go straight to a deep conditioner, and you also want to apply a conditioner after shampooing to then detangle, because a lot of times you will still get more tangles And more shedding after shampooing, and that's just due to that friction at your scalp, it's totally normal to get more shedding after you, shampoo, and if you have low porosity hair, you can also try out the squish to condition method, which is just where you scrunch your Hair when it has that conditioner and that water in it to really help increase the absorption and kind of massage the conditioner into the hair, so the next mistake that could be leading to frizz is not applying conditioner at your roots. You might not have thought about this because i know we're always trained to avoid our roots, because we don't want them to get weighed down, but if you have dry hair, if you have a lot of root frizz, then you'll definitely want to take your conditioner. All the way up, but the secret is, is to not get it on your scalp, but just kind of glaze it over the surface of your hair and just don't use as much product. You don't have to gob on the conditioner on your roots. Just start at your ends gradually work it up and then whatever's left on your hands, then just kind of glaze that over the surface of your hair, because the root hair does still need conditioning products, it still needs moisture. So we can't completely neglect the roots. All together that could be causing a lot of root, frizz that you might not have thought about, especially if your hair doesn't really get oily now, if you have very oily roots and very oily hair, you definitely probably don't need to be doing this, but the secret Is to make sure that you are thoroughly rinsing your hair, so maybe you even could apply conditioner at your roots if you do have oily hair, but just make sure you rinse it out thoroughly. One of the tricks i like to do is just kind of gently. Massage the roots, as i'm rinsing out that conditioner to ensure it's all completely rinsed out, you want to make sure your conditioner is thoroughly rinsed out. I know a lot of people like to leave some conditioner just on the lengths of their hair and on their ends, and you definitely can't do that, but just make sure you're getting it fully rinsed off of your roots by gently massaging it to ensure everything is Thoroughly rinsed out that way, you don't have to worry about your roots, getting weighed down so another common cause of frizz after you've washed. Your hair is not running your hands through your hair. If you've ever noticed after you rinse out your conditioner, your hair is kind of stretched out and just like stuck to your head. So one trick that i like to do is just take my fingers right at my roots and just pull them through my hair gently. So i'm really just doing this to help kind of arrange the hair and remove any of the remaining loose hairs. This also helps the curls begin to form and helps them start to clump, and it helps with root volume as well, instead of just going straight and drying your hair, when it's just stretched out and stuck to your head, like this, so just a little tip that I wanted to share and it actually helps me reduce frizz as well. So the next common cause of frizz is not deep conditioning when needed. A lot of us with curly hair have to work in deep conditioning treatments every so often now, if your hair is very fine or you don't find that you need a lot of moisture, you could probably do this once a month or even less. But for me with having very dry hair, that's kind of high porosity, it's coarse and medium. I definitely have to make sure i'm deep conditioning about every other week, so the deep conditioner that i'm going to be using is from twist. This is one of my favorite ones that i've been using all the time. This is the sunday feels deeply hydrating hair mask, so this is supposed to help soften and reform and restore the hair. They even put the moisture levels on here, which is really helpful. So this says it gives extra moisture for hair, so this contains a coconut oil to help moisturize and soften the strands. So that's really important, especially after you are shampooing your hair. It also contains jojoba oil, which nourishes strands and helps improve natural curl pattern. Jojoba oil is also a sealing oil, so this is going to help to lock in that moisture. It also contains shea butter which helps to lock in moisture also - and it's not going to leave your hair feeling heavy or greasy. If you have very fine hair, you could just apply it on your ends or you could even try applying your deep conditioner before shampooing, if you're really worried about it weighing down your hair. But i don't find that this weighs down my hair at all, and my hair is low density and i still get really great volume. It also has grape seed oil, which helps to lock in moisture and prevent frizz split ends and helps with brittle hair. This also helps to soften up those coarse areas in my hair, so it says that you only have to leave it on for three to five minutes, so it's super convenient doesn't take a lot of extra time. You can just put this on and finish out. Your shower, so i tend to use this a lot when i'm in a hurry, but for this routine i decided to leave it on for about 10 minutes. While i did my makeup, then you want to rinse it out with some warm water. You want to make sure that you use warm water first, that way you completely rinse it out, and then you can rinse with cool water. So the next common mistake that could be leading to frizz is not using the right temperature of water. So why is this? Well, as we discussed our hair swells when it comes in contact with water, and especially with hot water, research has showed that hair swells even more with very hot water, which results in a more lifted cuticle. If your cuticle is more lifted, it's more likely to lose protein from the inner layers of the hair and just get more damaged overall, which leads to more frizz and breakage. But on the flip side, cold water is not able to fully rinse out product. It'S kind of like trying to wash your dishes or your clothes in very cold water, it's hard to kind of remove oils and stuff. So you don't want to be using super cold water either, because your hair might get weighed down if you're rinsing out your deep conditioner in super cold water or, if you're, trying to wash your hair in cold water. So really the bottom line here is to be using warm water. You don't want it to be scalding hot, to damage your hair, and you also don't want it to be super cold to where you're not effectively cleansing and rinsing out your hair. So the last cause of frizz when you're washing your hair, is using a regular bath towel on your curls. This is a huge no-no. If you have curly hair, you definitely want to be using a cotton hair towel or even a t-shirt. If you don't have one just anything that has a flat weave cotton, i actually prefer this hair repair towel even more than a microfiber towel, because microfiber towels still have those little fibers that lead to so much frizz just causes a lot more friction on the hair, Especially if you're using a regular bath towel, all those little fibers will really cling on to the hair, even if you're someone that has straight hair or super fine hair. This can really cause a lot of frizz in the hair, plus it just soaks up too much moisture to wear. Then you just have to add more water before you style your hair. So a couple ways that you can dry your hair. You can either use a hair towel or a t-shirt to scrunch out the excess water before you style, or you can kind of gently twist up your hair and just don't tie it too tight. This is what i like to do just get out of the shower, or you can even plop your hair. I'Ve been doing this a lot after i rinse out my deep conditioner, and it really helps to help encourage that curl definition and it doesn't stretch out the curls. I don't get quite as much frizz when i just plop my hair to help absorb water before i style it, but then i'm still styling it and brushing through it anyway. So i don't really use this for curl definition, but it is a good way to not completely wring out your hair. So if you want to see the styling routine, that i did, i recommend checking out my instagram, where i will be sharing an instagram reels. Video of the styling process that i did so, if you want to see the twist curl cream and the gel that i use and how i got these results, then check out that instagram reels. Gena Marie: So excited to have a Twist code for y'all! They are one of my favorite affordable brands, and you can now save even more. ★20% off with code GENAMARIE: https://bit.ly/ShopTwistHair

whoah an ant: I've been teaching my brother about curls thanks to your vids. He started growing his hair out during quarantine. He and I are the only curly gingers in our family and the curly community definitely helped me fix the problems with my hair that no one else could.

Jennifer Guevara: I wish I had more curly friends so that I could share your knowledge with them. You deserve all the recognition and subscribers in the world ♥️

Terry Gore: This helped so much, Gena! Especially the tip about washing and all upside down. I've been doing that lately and I've definitely noticed a difference but I didn't know why. It's the fuller cuticle. Thanks! Now I'm off to watch your 8 styling mistakes video

Tara Frutiger: I'm learning so much! I had no idea my hair was actually wavy/curly until recently...for decades I just thought I had huge, dry, fluffy hair. I just had no idea I was pulling it, brushing it, and drying it straight. This is all so helpful and I see such a huge difference in the health of my hair!

Queen of Camp: okay wtf where has this channel been all my life?! in school i used to straighten my hair to death every day because i was bullied for my frizzy 'hagrid' hair. now im 25 and STILL figuring out how to look after my curls. thank you for these videos!

imyourhappydrug: I recently started using conditioner before shampoo as well as after and it's a game changer. My oil heavy conditioner I was using when my hair was dry works perfectly to break up styling product residue before I shampoo. I now use a lighter conditioner after shampooing instead now that my hair doesn't need as much moisture :)

Biscuit: I’ve been styling my curls for roughly 3 years now and I’ve been doing the same things to my hair that whole time, now I’ve stumbled across this video and my hair has definitely changed for the better!

Cat Skittles: I thought I was nuts when it came to conditioning my hair because I, too, was under the impression that when you conditioned your hair you were to not condition the roots because you wouldn't get lift or volume! I'm glad to know that even hair that is dryer, high porosity or lightweight, still needs conditioning even if it's just a glaze over. Also I was basically indoctrinated to wash my hair upside down probably since childhood, typically in the sink! But it's good to know that washing my hair in a vertical position, i.e. my hair in the shower, is actually better off because I'm following the cuticle and it means smoother, less frizzy results. Great video Gina. I'm glad I found your channel!

J: So much great information! I love that you take the time to explain everything thoroughly. I look forward to learning from you every week.

Deb Campos: Gina, this is such a helpful video! You explained a lot why for me having super low porosity hair warmer water and wet styling is the only way my hair absorbs product. Cold water and damp hair only make the products sit on top and build up really quick! PS: my hair tangles very little. Thank you Gina!!

Patty DeCosta: Thanks Gena. I’m definitely gonna try all your tips on my next wash day♥️

suneater_zeef0: learned a whole lot from this video! super excited to keep improving my routine - and not let anyone make fun of me for using "girl products" this time!

Katoe: Curly hair issue: never heard anyone talk about this. My curls will be elongated in the middle for whatever reason - weight, etc. but they’ll be ROUNDER and LOOSER at the ends. Hate it. Absolutely hate it. Ir ruins volume, concentrating it at the ends and contributes to triangle hair. What can help?

Mary Morgan: Your hair looks like it's getting thicker! And it's definitely growing! Beautiful as always ❤️

Rachelle P: Great video Gena, some very clever tips. As always thank you ❣️

Curl Girl: Gena, I am going to try these tips tomorrow on wash day. I have problems with frizz and this is super helpful. Thanks!

Debbie Saleh: This was a total eye opener! I can’t wait to try this out Gena! Thanks for sharing! Love your videos!

Tart !!: What oil do you recommend for dry detangling?

Tisha Terry: When you apply conditioner before shampoo Do you leave the conditioner in or do you rinse? This is excellent information love the tips and tricks. I started using Ouidad products 20 years ago and I’m very impressed with Twist and your detailed breakdown of what to not do and do. Thank you

Thayná: I tried these tips, as well as your other videos' and it worked like a CHARM. Seriously, thank you so much.

Jacob Decker: Something I learned to get more moisture on the top of your hair is to rinse out your conditioner to the front of your face instead of washing it off from behind. That way I can get good moisture on the top of my hair without weighing it down. It’s changed my entire curly hair game!

Item, Julianna Sheena Mae G.: Hi, Gena! I hope you can make a video about trying out shampoo/conditioner bars for curly hair. I'm planning to switch and want to know your thoughts about it. Btw, love your videos! They helped me a lot in my journey. xoxo

Candice Raquel: I never thought of washing upside down ! I always wash upside down because I really want to get underneath near the nape. Thanks for the tips :)

Gingersnaps: I had no idea washing upside down would affect my hair! Wow! Thank you!

Sandra Garcia: Your videos are always super helpful. You really do a great job explaining. Thank you.

Mollie Swann: Wow! I love these suggestions. Very informative. Thank you so much for all these tips to keep our hair strong and healthy. ‍

Neha Zite: Hey Gena, I'm using 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner for a long time now because that is the only one that suits my hair without damaging much (it does damage but much lesser than other brands). My question is how should I shampoo and condition with 2 in 1 shampoo, like you said conditioning prior to shampooing is better but how does this work with 2 in 1 shampoos?? Like where should I apply first, as both the products are in one liquid.

Hanka Hamidović: I have low porosity hair and my hair loves upside down washing, although the other tips sound very convincing. Will try!

Suzanne Johnson: Thank you for more great curl care advice! BTW, I love that shirt!

Daphne Sinicropi: Good tips, because lately my hair has been tangling into knots. I clarify once monthly, since I don't use other styling creams right now, other than a monthly protein treatment.

Rose M: I personally don’t like to just let the shampoo run down my hair because to me that’s not clean enough. We put a majority of our products on the ends of our hair so it makes sense to make sure it’s washed. I don’t shake and mix the hair but I take shampoo and apply it almost like praying hands method and very lightly somewhat squeeze it into the hair and then lightly rub in small sections..not rubbing into the scalp or anything. I find this to be helpful for me to wash my hair in addition to washing my scalp. To each his own and whatever works for everyone will be different

5forhvn: I used your methods and what a difference it made! Thank you!

Eileen Ho: Any hair oil to recommend? That can be used while detangling before shower and to scrunch out the cast after styling

Tilting Planet: Gosh this channel has helped so much! My hair is curly and also I keep it dyed to platinum so I have a lot of frizz

Seer Channah: I love your channel. These videos are so helpful.

Tour Guide: you lifesaver. I always thought it was just the humidity but ends up a quick brush before a shower isn't enough to detangle, i need to condition before my shampooing which i never even knew was a possible concept lol. Hair grows a lot longer now

Michelle Osmond: Also rice water is a game changer for healing & strengthing curly hair

Emma Gavars: that was very helpful thanks i been doing most of those so no wonder i get really frizzy hair

Superfood Smoothies & more: Very informative video, thank you! Do you think it's ok to use conditioner or oil to dry detangle if you're using a cowash? I alternate cowash and shampoo. I thought it may not be fully removed on the cowash days?

Shelby Cavera: What oil did you use when dry detangling?

E. Elsi Bea: @Gena Marie I can't help but notice how white you face is even co.pated to your neck and body. I'm curious if you could list what products you use on it, especially anything lightening or sun protective? You may just have the key to a problem I've been looking for for a long long time. Love your videos, girl. Thanks so much!

Kirsten: How often do you switch in between dry and wet detangling? I think that's a good idea alternating with both instead of using 1 detangling method every wash day. 8:59 This is exactly what I have dealt every wash day I do that method to shampoo as its easier to get the product lathered into the scalp.

sgd: 18 y/o male here, this video is super duper helpful, thanks!!!!

mm: My hair has been frizzy since I was young, not sure if it's natural because everyone else's hair is different from mine (I'm Asian). I always have to go to do rebonding treatments in hair salons to smoothen my hair and it would last around 3 months. Hella expensive. If anyone can help please help

Brenda Arias: What’s your go to oil for when you detangle hair before shower?

Coda: Hey! I'm a bit curious on how you tie your clarifying shampoo into your routine. I know you said you use it once ever two or so washes, but does that clarifying shampoo replace your normal shampoo on those washes? or do you clarify first, shampoo second, and conditioner last. I'd assume you just use the clarifying shampoo but I had to ask. Thanks for the super helpful video!

Stephanie Peters: What kind of oil do you use for dry detangling?

Moon: I loved to know! I was doing everything wrong lmao and omg your face without makeup is so beautiful and young. I'm not the type to talk how someone should wear anything, but you could try more natural makeup like the korean ones to to the lips and blush

Debbie Hunt: Gena, what type of oil do you suggest to use for the detangling before shampooing? I have one by Aveda, would that be ok? They did say I could use it in my hair but I haven't tried it. Just wondering what kind you use. Thanks for this wonderful video!!

Baby Ted: Finally a person who has the same hair type as me you are a god sent I love you so freaking much haha thank you

Xtinejoy: This is the first vudeo I've watched from you. It's so helpful. I'm just new to curly hair washing method and I'm doing it wrong. Thank you so much!

Sam: Me with pin straight hair: yes. top knowledge!

James The Sock: I have low porosity hair, does this advice still apply to me? Like the conditioning before shampooing.

Chris Tubbs: Excellent video, thank you!!!

큐티 바닐라 !: thank you. i never knew about the conditioner on roots avoiding scalp

Nura: Do you wash the first conditioner (before the shampoo) out?

Me Me: A question that I’ve always had is wavy hair curly hair? If yes, how do I manage it?

Stephanie Peters: When you condition before shampooing, you wash out the conditioner before applying the shampoo, right? Or no? I realize this seems like an obvious answer, but I like making sure

Jennie Charles: So when I condition my hair before shampooing do I rinse it out or leave the conditioner on my hair and shampoo with it in?

5forhvn: Love your videos! You have so much great knowledge!

Kathy Byrne: Love it!! Thank ya Gena

Aya: is conditioning before and after shampooing necessary or should i just condition before shampoo.

Liv Delima: So informative. Thank you really make sense

annette aragon: Thank you I also have been loosing a lot of hair idk if it’s due to Covid

Jamie Braxton: Is it normal to find yourself removing shed hair the entire washday process? I mean from using a conditioner to detangle, to shampooing, to deep conditioning? It seems like the shed hairs never really stop coming during the whole process

Jackie Marriott: Great info !

Fannya Silberman: Hi! I don't have curly hair, but I watch your videos sometimes! Could the condition first, shampoo, then recondition work for straight hair too? Also, I don't shampoo my ends, but what if I have product on the ends specifically, is the shampoo from the top area running down to the ends enough to remove the product or could you do a small amt of shampoo on the ends?

JustAdd Water: thanks i learn a lot from this video :).

eee eee: I do everything right yet my hair is still super frizzy all the time, can I fix this???

Lori Barbadora: Will be trying out the condition, shampoo, condition advice!

Zamia Zakir: About the conditioning first then shampooing part applicable from straight , slightly wavy hair too?

CaratStayArmyBlinkiGot7OnceMonbebe KPOPSTANTALENT: - untuggle hair with oil before bath, during bath with conditioner before washing - conditioner first then shampoo then conditioner -clarifying shampoo ( not too usually) - normally not upside down - dont skip conditioner -conditioning almist everything just not the inside in scalp. Just pass on top of the scalp with your hands -running fingers through hair to untagle. -deep conditioning 1-4 per months - (from twist) -use warm water. Not too cold or too hot -using cotton fiber to dry it out. Not common body towel.

Rana El Taco: The idea of twisting all my curls just scares me LOL

Emma Jordan: I have wavy hair but it used to be solid ringlets when I was younger, I’m also an auburn, do you think I could get the ringlets back?

Diana Torres: Hi I love your videos but can you make a video about the cantu brand because I heard it makes your hair really dry and I don't want to risk damaging my hair

Star 123: Great video

Naima Khan: Hey mam I'm from India my hair is naturally wavy and I'm just star my CG journey i want to know that my wavy didn't last long another day it's like I didn't do anything all the waves are almost gone next day why this happen

hairhunger: Beautiful shampoo video !!!! ...many more please ! ......

Augustė Čeledinaitė: I love you so much haha! You helped me!

Amber Boney: Have you ever used innersence new detox mask as a clarifier instead of a sulfate shampoo ?

Reaper Of Memes: 5:49 what if I use 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner or does it matter?

SxgerCxffee☕︎︎: I had natural super super curly hair and then something happened to them now my hair just looks really thick

STARPHORRA: wow i watched this right after a 2 week wash day

Isabel Davila: How often do you rotate products? Do you rotate them evenly or in a specific order? I’ve noticed sometimes using the same product loses the initial effect I saw in my curls

Ally: Some of these do not apply to my curly hair for example I wash my hair upside-down to protect "top hair" from over washing and over conditioning. Also washing my hair this way makes my hair grow better. Conditioning my roots is a big no no it's causing my hair to fall out. Everything else I do and it's working well.

Kim S.: What kind of oil would you recommend?

Rasha Hany: Hi Gena Thank u so much for all what u do for us I wanna ask if i ll not buy this towel , is it better to use cotton shirt or microfiber towel to dry my hair

Alyssa Rosengard: I got a Wolf cut so my hair is above shoulder length. My old routine isn’t working. I am losing hair from severe anemia which is why I got my hair cut. The top of my hair is floppy. It straightened a lot. I lost my 3A curls from the bottom. I’m more now all over 2C. Can you recommend a good light oil and a light gel that holds. I have low porosity hair and slightly coarse.

Priscillia Ippersiel: What oil do you use?

Jennie Charles: So when use conditioner first to detangle do u rinse it out first before u shampoo?

Eliana Sarah: i like to rinse my hair then put conditioner and brush through it and then shampoo does that work too?

CoinDog: How do i detangle. Do I just run my fingers through my hair or what?

A F K: Gr8 tips

Deb E: A few of questions for you: 1) What oil were you using when deranging your hair? 2) What Twist Shampoo and conditioner do you use if you are NOT clarifying and NOT deep conditioning your hair? 3) Do you ever use a Twist Leave-In Conditioner or only the Curl Lotion and then gel? 4) Do you always style your hair while standing upright once you are out of the shower? Thank you SO much for the awesome videos that you make for those of us just starting to learn what to do with our naturally curly hair!!!
