My name is Lucy, I'm a Dutchwoman here to offer an alternative approach to beauty.

On this channel I do mostly hair tutorials where I show you how to braid, pin and style your own hair. I recreate hairstyles from movies, tv shows or history and I regularly come up with my own, which I love to share with you!

I really enjoy diving into history to find out how women went about their beauty and dressing rituals in days past. Vintage and history-themed videos are my little passion project.

You'll find a bit of lifestyle content here as well, ranging from cozy chats over a cup of tea (my beloved Tea Time videos) to personal vlogs and home & interior videos.

Hey guys welcome to a new video, and today, I'm going to show you how to do this. Iconic 60s hairstyle, I feel like this - is the most recognizably sixties hairstyle out there and if you're going to some kind of 60s custom of them like a party or something this is probably the hairstyle you want to go for, and actually it is really not that Hard to do it, it's a little bit time-consuming, but the techniques and everything it's not that difficult. So I feel, like everyone, should be able to recreate this. It is for sure, and really really fun hairstyle to do and to see yourself in, because I mean hello. Let me just give you a quick little look at the bottom of this hairstyle we've got those iconic flicks, of course. Now my hair is a little bit too long for this hairstyle. Ideally, you want to have like collarbone length, hair or a little bit shorter. Even but honestly, it works for pretty much any hair like as long as you're handsome see you long or shorter than maybe chin. Nice say, I'm not sure that's gon na work, but anything in between that you should be fine. So without further ado, let's jump into the tutorial the main thing about this hairstyle. The first thing we're going to focus on it's the back combing, it's going to involve a lot of back combing and we want to go section by section to be sure that we hit all of the hair. So I'm going to start by clipping up the top part of my hair and we're gon na just focus on the bottom here. So I'm going to take a fighting to that comb and just tease my hair at the roots. The further down your hairline qts, the bigger the hair cells, going to be obviously so I'm just going to go all around and every time I finish by combing a section I'm going to spray it with some hairspray. We want to pretty much glue this hairstyle down. That'S the way they were able to get their hair so high, just using loads and loads and loads of hairspray won't they have to be crunchy by the end. So I'm slowly making my way up the hair by every time, just releasing a new strip of hair and then back combing that taking a new piece of hair. I'Ve been combing all of that as well making sure to spray it with hairspray every single time. So once you started working on the top and you kind of come towards the front, that is where we start working on the shape. Ideally, you want to create a shape that isn't round as possible on top of the head and the way to do this means after you have back home base section, you can have spread it out with your hands and then use the back of a red, silicone Or one of those afro picks to spread out the teeth or your hair, and that looks really well and allows you to kind of mold the shape. So here you can see me going back and just back combing a little bit more of the length of my hair, because I felt like my hair was a little bit flat back and again, the ultimate round shape, but also you can go down with the back Combing here we're going to make sure everything looks nice by the end of it. Now the focus is just on volume and the shape of course. So then, when you've done the last piece of hair you're going to take the comb and just very, very gently smooth over the top, you don't want to stick your comb into the hair because then you're going to lose a lot of the volume. But you just want to catch that very top layer of hair and smooth that over the hair style to create one layer of just nice and shiny, looking hair, which will disguise all the tangled mess underneath it now take your time. For this make sure everything is perfect, everything looks nice and you can't see any other teased hair through the top layer. My bangs got hit with a bit of hairspray as well, so I'm just cutting those through to spread them back out again and then I'm going to take a headband or some kind of hair accessory. A headband works great for that typical 60s, look which I'm just going to apply right at the edge between my bangs and the pouf. Then of course, spraying it with more hairspray again and then I'm going to take a curling iron, which has a fairly large barrel, and I'm going to use that to create my flicks at the bottom here. So I'm just curling the very very ends of my hair. Outward and that's going to create that very typical, 60s flicked hair look, so I'm just gon na do that all around my hair then spray that with hairspray as well, of course, and after I've done that, I'm just gon na run my comb through the ends. Once you get on rid of the crunch - and there is your hair still done, I think this is such a fun hairstyle. If you want to do a variation on this, you could even take your hair or maybe if your hair is a little bit too long like and you can make this into a low bun or maybe like a higher twisty thing, you can make it into a French twist, like that, just be sure to really keep that volume, but it looks pretty cute as a French twist as well. There are plenty of options of thing you could do with this. Even just a low ponytail works really great as well just be sure to tease that ponytail as well or at least the base of it, to really maintain that 60s volume. I absolutely love how this is the closest thing to a concentra hair styling that we still deem somewhat were it's the best word to describe 1960s hair style is just fun, so I really look you enjoyed this quick little tutorial guys and I hope you found it Helpful, if you did don't forget to give a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel for loads, more key and lifestyle concepts, if you'd like to support me through patreon or my merch store they'll, be links in the descriptions below. littlepinkhousefly: I was a child in the 60s. I remember my mom putting my hair up in curlers every Saturday night and making me sit under the hair dryer (a full-head cap, not a rigid dome), and then working with it Sunday morning before church to style it. It was always a rat's nest in the morning, and I had a tender scalp and hated the back-combing. But I really wanted the iconic flip to work, so I could look "cool" like the movie stars. Apparently I cried and squealed a lot during those hair-styling sessions, so when I was six, my mom took me to the hairdresser's and had her cut it into a (short!) Pixie. It was the most traumatic thing that had happened to me at that young age. I HATED it. I went home and stood on my head hoping it would make it grow out faster. And the back-combing didn't cease because it was short. Nooooo -- a Pixie had a very poufy top! To this day I can't stand to have very much volume on top of my head. (But I would totally do this hairstyle if I didn't think it would look weird on a mid-50s woman in 2019 ...)

Siren From The Deep: Wow! It's so beautiful, i adore '60s you kinda look like Lana Del Rey And also, i love your makeup!! It would be awesome if you do a tutorial on that look

Naomi Rees: I'm a hairstylist and I just did a beehive with a french twist for a woman who was going to a 60's pageant queen themed party. Lots of fun but soooo much teasing lol

fictionalhuman: How fun! I think the hairstyle looks especially good pinned back/up on you. This 60s bump reminds me of a hairstyle the was popular at least in the southern U.S. about 10-15ish years ago. I had friends in high school/early college that would wear “bump its” in their majorly teased hair. They were especially popular to be worn with ponytails. The bump its were these foam pads attached to a hair comb you would use to do less teasing but still get higher volume at the roots.

Krystal Lights: Omg I love the 60s!!! This hairstyle is perfect!!!❤️❤️❤️

Jenna Morgan: Yaaass I regularly rock this hairstyle gorgeous!

XZeldaTheZealotX: You make this look easy, I can’t tease my hair to save my life

Rosemary: I try to achieve that with my hair when I go out :-) Nice to see someone else doing it. I wanted to tell you that this makeup you did for this video is very flattering on you. It suits you, you might make it your regular makeup!

GrayLandscapes: Love it! I think 60s looks really suit you! I used to do this all the time, but I stopped when I got fed up with having to brush the teased parts out. Took forever!

D S: You make it look so easy You’re sooo talented & beautiful ❤️

HeuteNachtIstMeinTag: Yes! The Beehive! It looks so good on you!

Veronica M: Your face really suits the 60s look and vibe-you look so vintagey pretty!

Kate Houston: I watched a lot of tutorials on this. Yours is by far the best and easiest to follow.

Amanda Byrd: You were meant to do these retro styles for sure. So adorable!

PammyT82: Slight side pony with hair falling over the shoulder. Another authentic option is rats used to create the volume for women with fine hair. Super cute, reminds me of family photo albums!

Nadeshka Holmes: Gosh it looks so cute!! I love the 60's. You rock that style btw haha <3

Makeup Boss: This is so freaking cute !!!! I never realized how much teasing and hairspray was required with it . Oh my goodness..!!! My mother would do the beehive, she grew up in the 60’s .

Allyssa Edwards: Gorgeous recreation!!!!!

lotusflowerbombb: you have the coolest video ideas and your looks are always gorgeous!!! So cuteeee

Cynthia Basso: Thank you! My mother in law wore her hair like that back then. I wish I could tease hair but I ffind it difficult. You make it look so easy

Karen Strong: My grandma wore this hairstyle at the era, this hairstyle is accurate to be honest. Anyways thanks for the tutorial Lucy.

Angela Willis: This look looks great on you!

Gandellion: I love it! And the music in this video is so pretty

Vivian C. C.: So cute!!! Love it

Simon Macomber: While this is an iconic 60s hair style, this is *NOT* a beehive.

Allison Hagan: You look good in any hairstyle! So fun!

Sarah Portelli: Loooove the outcome of this tutorial also; have a beauty beacons suggestion: Caresse Crosby inventor of the modern day bra

Ashley Miranda: Definitely time consuming, but so rewarding! I actually discover your channel with your Brigitte Bardot tutorials lol ❤❤❤❤

WakeupGrandOwl: This is so cool to see :) So much fun

Silje Bjåland: This is really cool and looks authentic. Could you do an 80's perm-like hair tutorial in the future?

louise lill: I love this style . Have you ever done your mum's hair ?

Jade: More of these tutorials pleaseee

Sophie Sobura: This hairstyle remembers me of teasing my own hair in nearly the same way in order to be a scene girl

Conejita Carreño: Hermoso peinado!!!!. Mañana me peinare así. Gracias y saludos desde la Cd de México.

The Candid Counterbalance: They also used to sleep on jumbo rollers (with the hair still slightly damp), and when the brushed it out the next day, it would give massive volume, and help create this style more easily.

Delila Farrell: Wow! Cool hairstyle! Can’t say I would wear it in public, though! Love from my channel

Brandy Loutherback: You could do a Beauty Beacon of Fiction on Megan Draper, a character who all but screamed I am the 1960's!

bathtubprincess: YEEEESSSS I’ve been waiting for this!! this is so good !!

Vanessa Sewell: My grandma I never met had this hairstyle Unfortunately she died young but from old photos I know she was a very pretty lady

Jocelyn Jade: The backcombing can be avoided with wigs. Stack wigs to get the same volume and with less damage to your hair.

Sarah D'souza: U can use this style in your beauty beacons series to recreate looks from the movie HAIRSPRAY

SSnowdon: I like the BIG beehives but your take is really cute!

vida jacobson: Thanks, luv. I've been wondering how to get this look

The Candid Counterbalance: Teasing was done with a comb, but the top layer would be smoothed out with the edge of a nylon bristle brush. This kind of brush is essential for smoothing out the layers on top, so you can't see the ratty chunks underneath.

DietSodaBitch: That’s a bouffant not a beehive. It’s very cute darling.

Louise Tell: Omg it looks so good

lavin96: I would looove doing this on someone else but I would not have the patience to do it on myself lol

Siobhán K.: I have naturally curly hair, so not sure this would have worked, but fun to see on straight haired girls. x

ostentatiousostrich: 3:37 80s glam metal hair achieved!

Francy Fey: It would be soooo cool if you‘d collab with Melanie Murphy again and do a Marvellous Mrs. Maisel make over on her I would sooo love it. But as she lives in Ireland, it‘s not possible, I guess

CoolKem C: I wish you’d kept the fringe and tie the ribbon on top of the fringe. A very 60s bouffant Edit: oh you did. Never mind and carry on

Nicole Elizabeth: Omg, my scene queen days! lol!

Amy Underwood: Psh costume party... this is my everyday hair lol No joke

Deena Younan: Where did you get your headband? It looks perfect with the style!

Nadine Chandler: That looked great...reminded me of Marlo Thomas in That Girl ✌

MJ: Please could you try out a Jane eyer hair style (from the 2011 film)

하마다라나: So cute

LirutheFoxgirl: This is a really cute hair style but I definitely think that your hair being tied back would of work a fair bit better for you.

Brandon: I thought I invented this hairstyle as a 20 year old. Awkward.

Gina Galluccio: Love this... however, would hate washing it out! :-)

L J: My grandmother wore her hair like this in her 20s.

Gunn Andersen: Cute hairstyle. A typical 60s.

Tammy Dee: My mom had that hair in the 70's as well lol

bella: is there some sort of hairpiece i can use to avoid backcombing so much?

Vintage Girl: Love your chanel ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

Jay: Wos thanks for the amazing tutorial... but yesterday i just cut my hair just above chin length...

Fanny's LoA: I don't remember... Did you ever do Peggy Bundy from "Married With Children"? I'd love to find a way to get her hair

Jeffrey Cruz: Please do a beehive next

Anthony Robertson: Lots of women just used a hair piece to get height. My mom had a couple and had a lady where she would drop it off and pick it up another day to have it washed and styled.

Lo J: Super cute

bambisofi: reminds me of lana del rey <3

Keke: ❤️

Heather Wiedenhoeft: Reminds me of Baltimore hairstyle.

Honeymoon ASMR: Oh gosh now I can be Lana and Priscilla THANK YOU

Leticia: Priscilla Presley comes to mind :) ❤

brock: Her hair is very long but in order to get the style you would just tease it higher and higher and higher so actually she would have a very high tease

Gardener Hands: I don't even have to watch to tell you.....Not even close to being high enough. lol seriously though. My grandmother and her friends often wore beehives. To this day, I've no idea how long her hair was or wasn't. High hair. Never came down. Aqua net

Minnie: You’re beautiful and it looks great, but after this hairdo: R.I.P. healthy hair :-((()

thegreenmanofnorwich: I'm just thinking of trying to wash out all that backcombing and hairspray. My hair is exceptionally fine so it just wouldn't survive well

tajinder kaur: You so beautiful

Missanthrope: Before you added the ribbon you looked a bit like 80s Joan Jett..

Юлія Вачинич: ))))

AkashaOConnell: Lol, it went from trad goth to 80's to 60's.

Amy Douglas: It isn't a beehive. A true beehive is a very high updo. A very authentic 60s look would be if she just secured her hair in a low ponytail which looks great with all the backcombing.

WindFall: How do you do this it’s so hard lol

Praveen Prabhu Desai: Lovely dear

Daxxydog: You needed some Dippity Do!

Tinochka: You look like Pamela Tiffin.

Robert Z: Brovo

Hazeleyeartist: Very cute style but I cringe so hard when I see you teasing your hair so much.

ธัญทิพย์ โชติกลาง: wow I like.

LaDivinaLover: Fairly sure this is a soft bouffant and not a beehive...

E Z: Cool

ali karşıyaka: Greetings from TURKEY

Lady Chucklefuck: GIDGET!!

Generic Channel: Reminds me of hairspray

E Z: Easier buying a wig

Tiffani Farrington: Flipped not flicked lol
