New Shark Flex Style Vs Dyson Airwrap Side-By-Side Results On Hair | Which Is Better For You?

So excited to share this comparison video and demo of the new Shark Flex Style vs the Dyson Airwrap. There really has no been a competitor in the multi-attachment dryer and styler space, so this was an exciting release for me!

I purchased both devices with my own money and this review is not sponsored. (Not that I take any issue with sponsored posts!) Just thought I'd mention because I do feel like it's important on comparison videos.

Let me know what you think please!! I am SO curious to hear your thoughts.

Feel free to text this video to a friend or family who might be trying to decide between both as well.

I was JUST editing my video on tips for using the Dyson when the Shark Flexstyle was released, so I will make sure that goes up soon, for those of you who are already Dyson owners/lovers.

Here is the blog post with TONS of additional photos. I have been trying to add way more into posts, let me know what you think!

Foreign hi, it's Molly, welcome back to my channel. Welcome! If it's your first time here. Today'S the video is all about the shark Flex Style versus the Dyson air, wrap, let's get into the attachments and the results of each attachment side by side, and then we're going to come back. And I will give you my opinion on who I think each device is right for with shark. There are three different systems that you can pick up. The first two are 269 dollars. The straight set comes with the wand and four attachments, the curlies that which I don't have almost the same as the straight brush. Except don't get the smoothing brush. You get a diffuser first, two were 269 and then they have another, build your own option for 249 dollars and you get to pick out three attachments. I have the older Dyson that retailed for 549. They have since re-engineered and it retails for 599.. So the Dyson comes with a lot in the Box 10 items versus Sharks. Five, so I broke this down on the surf purpose. The shark seems like a much better deal, but when I broke down everything that comes in the Box, the shark worked out to about 54 dollars per item and the Dyson worked out to about 59 per item. So that's actually not that much of a difference. Now maybe the filter cleaning ring and the heat protection mat aren't necessarily that much of a high value item, but just considering all you get with Dyson, you do get a lot more in the box, so it's not as much as an Apple for Apple comparison, as I expected let's go over what comes in each box, the shark and the Dyson both come with the wand portion for shark. The buttons are here on the bottom right by the vent, the shark buttons you have to hit several times and then you'll see it light up to go through the heat settings and the air setting the cool shot button is up here now. What I don't love about the shark is that there's no way unless you're kind of Shifting like this to change the buttons and then hold it while you're styling you, you cannot have your hand over a filter when you're styling, eventually it shuts the device off, because It'S protecting the device from overheating. You need this filter and vent to be free, which means your hand has to be up here, so you do need to put this down and turn it on off between each piece of hair on the shark. If you press the unlock button, you can swivel this down and it turns into this L shape, which is pretty unique and on the Shark. The filter is detachable. It does take a little bit more elbow grease, but you can take that down to clean it. I do recommend cleaning your devices before every single use. It keeps the wand in its best shape. The shark has a swivel base which is really nice so that it won't get tangled up and then on the Dyson. The Dyson wand has its buttons right at the top, and these are toggle buttons. You can hear the click as you go through each of them and the filter comes off really easily so that you can clean the device. What I love about the Dyson is that the button placement makes it very easy to change everything and style. Your hair with one hand Dyson also has this really nice professional swivel cord both have heavy duty cords. I know people are loving the swivel on the shark, but unfortunately for me I noticed, while I was using the straightening brush attachment, it did put a lot of pressure on this joint right here, and so I was nervous that eventually it might wear it down. So I think it's a really cool concept, but just the more things rotate hate and the more moving Parts there are on something it does make me a little bit nervous. These are both 1300 Watts. These are both single voltage devices. So this is really interesting. Both of these barrels are 5.5 inches around the shark strained my hand and wrist after I used it four days in a row, the dice, then I've had for two years and I've never strained my hand or wrist. I just assumed the shark was bigger kind of like the Revlon. I was so shocked when I measured and I realized they're the same size and what I realized. When you look at the top of the barrel, you can see that the Dyson is oval and here's the shark in its round. These are exactly 5.5 inches. Each take your hands right now when you make a circle with your hand, you're kind of straining right here, but if you do this oval shape, it's very naturally, where your hand would fall. I was kind of shocked when I realized that I've never thought about where my hand naturally Falls before, but I did notice I kept getting wrist and hand strain using the shower. The sharp nozzle is a little bit more narrow and concentrated, and this is the old Dyson attachment on the new Dyson dryer attachment the top rotates just like with the curling attachment. So you do get a very concentrated amount of air, just like the sharp now. What'S cool about the new Dyson is that you can rotate this and air will come out with this smoothing FlyAway attachment it tucks all of the FlyAway hairs into your hair. So you get a really nice smooth finish. The round brush attachments were so interesting to me. I expected these to be pretty similar, but, as you can see, the dysons is round and much smaller and the shark is a larger Barrel that is oval shaped. So the shark actually reminded me a lot more of the Revlon one step or the Hot Tools. One Step dryers: here's my hot tools, One Step dryer and the barrels here are both oval and much larger. So if you have long hair, the shark might work well for you, but if you do have shorter hair or bangs, this size is going to be harder to style them. This was one thing that really surprised me about the shark. Is that as much as I like how quickly this dried my hair, it just reminded me a lot more of a mid-price point: styling brush versus high-end attachment. I love both of these attachments because they grip the hair and they make it really smooth. However, both of these have a metal Barrel, so I've had my Dyson for about two years and even though I love this attachment, I do try to use it sparingly because is metal? Will heat up and damage your hair and for me, one of the biggest reasons I bought the Dyson was to be able to do really healthy, low heat hairstyles on myself. So as much as I love these, I just don't use them as much as I would like to, because I am trying to keep my hair healthy in order to keep this video moving along. I did all of my hair and heat protection prep off camera, and then I did record all of the styling, but I decided I really wanted to focus on the results and not as much on the technique for this video. So you'll see me just finishing up things here and there clipping my hair to set it until it's cool and then once I take all the clips out, I do touch up my roots, so in case you're wondering where my roots go. It'S root touch up product. So on this side this was the Dyson side. Those clips did cause a little crease in the hair, so I did re-smooth it out with the Dyson you'll see that in a second and overall I just felt like this was the best way to show the results for this video. So let me know what you think of each Style. I really thought I was gon na get two different looks because the barrel sizes were so different, but as I'm looking at it, I feel like they look the same. This is the shark's eye and let's check out the Dyson now when I'm looking at the results on the sides, I do think the Dyson has a little bit more curve versus the shark because of that smaller Barrel. These are the straightening attachments that come in each standard box, so the shark is again a metal base with two levels of plastic bristles. I really love this attachment. I was gon na wait to tell you about this, but I'm going to show you now, so my Shark unfortunately broke the first time. I used it because it has these plastic attachments that click into the top, so mine broke off and this piece of plastic did go into the wand. I smelled something melting, I smelled something burning and I didn't quite know what it was and then this popped off and I realized it was a piece of plastic that was burning in the barrel. I would prefer to see an attachment that was a little bit more solidly attached. The shark uses hot air and tension on the bristles to get the hair really smooth. So I absolutely love this brush. It got my hair, so sleek and smooth. However, again the metal is just really damaging, and even after only one use, I could just feel my hair drying out. Dyson comes with two brushes standard and these use the kowanda effect, which is basically air that travels through as you're combing. Your hair out these bristles move with the airflow and that's how your hair gets dry. They don't have any seams, so there's nothing that can pop off here. This is the firm smoothing brush and then this is the soft smoothing brush that has the pink dots at the top. I do think it might be more gentle on my hair now, apparently on the newer brushes there's more airflow. I would really like to pick up one of the new brushes when they're available, I use the smoothing brush the most. I did purchase this more narrow, smoothing attachment when I first bought my Dyson as you can see it's a little bit more narrow for short hair. I thought this would be really interesting to style the hair around the front of my face, and I do really like this one. I use it all the time now. The thing that's the most important about all of the dicing smoothing brushes is that there's no metal. These are all plastic, so they don't get overheated, they don't fry, my hair, they're, very, very gentle, and that's how I've been able to get my hair so long and healthy in the past two years. So, for me, that's why I've really stuck with the Dyson, even though I love the results from the shark, the Dyson is just way more Gentle Way softer on my hair, because there's no hot metal heating up, you can see when I'm using this shark smoothing brush The tension that goes on that joint, I got a little bit nervous when I was using it that I might eventually break the wand, but overall I mean you can see how Sleek my hair looks. I almost wish I hadn't set it in curler, so you could see how Sleek everything looked, but I made my choice. We are at 21 minutes and 46 seconds, as I mentioned, with the Dyson. It'S my most used attachment and I have found again. This is not a video about technique, but I have found that by holding the end of my hair, I get really nice tension and that helps with the overall smoothness of the outcome that was so much faster. Now these look pretty much the same to me. I will say the thing that surprised me was that the Dyson was actually faster. I was not anticipating that I thought the shark was gon na be faster, but this is why the side by side is so interesting to me. The one thing I like about the shark is that you can straighten use the smoothing brush with one hand, because those bristles do really hold on to the hair and make for a Sleek finish. The one thing that I love about the Dyson is that the attachment is not metal so right now this side already feels healthier. It doesn't feel like it's stripped of moisture at all, even though I really do need to go in for a trim. I keep saying it, but I need to book it and this side. I can just feel that it's a little bit more dry. So that's thing: that's the one thing that I love about the Dyson I feel like for hair Health. The Dyson just really dominates the field. This is the the shark side. By the way, I would love to know your opinion on the results. So in the comments, let me know what you think, which side do you think came out better, and here is the Dyson side. If you've been debating between these two devices. Does one stand out to you, I'm so curious, because I definitely formed my own opinion, but I'd love to hear what you think the shark comes with one set of curling attachments. They have left and right and arrows on them so that you can direct the hair either way and the Dyson comes with two curling attachments. The shark is 1.25 inch and then the Dyson comes with 1.2 inch and 1.6 inch. Now, on the newer Dyson, they will come with this click top. I don't have them yet. So I'm just going to show you on the dryer, where you rotate it and that changes the direction of the airflow and the direction of the curl. I do use both sizes of the curlers again. This is going to be one of those really personal decisions where you just need to decide how many different sizes you'll use, what fits within your budget, Etc. Now the shark does have a little bit more of a ridge on the edge and the Dyson is a bit softer a bit more rounded and on the standard set, the Dyson is a bit shorter than the shark. The Dyson does have an option to purchase the barrels for longer hair if you'd like, I did purchase two sets to test them out, but I actually think I like the shorter barrels just because I get a little bit more tension on my hair. So that's going to come down to personal preference, you can purchase the standard set with these shorter attachments or you can purchase the long set directly from Dyson. The kiwanda effect that these curlers use, where the the airflow pulls the hair in is so incredible to me. I do want to note on the shark to only use the the lowest heat setting, because the medium and the high gets so hot that it just burned my hair, but the low setting is perfect and it sort of matches Dyson's medium heat setting and for the Dyson, I just tend to use medium heat when I'm using the attachments for this look. I went for a Farrah Faucet and I curled all the way from the bottom to the top, and then I set each side with setting Clips so that you could really see the effects of each attachment. And then, finally, here are the additional items that come with the Dyson and there's no equivalent for the shark. Here'S your filter, cleaning ring and, like I said before, I use the device. I just quickly clean out that filter and that keeps your wand running at Peak Performance. Here'S your heat protection mat. These are really nice to have so that you don't burn your countertop and then here is the leather storage case that has compartments for everything and is really heavy duty. Actually it's very nicely made. So I just wanted to show you everything that comes in the box. So that you can really make an informed decision for yourself, seeing what's in each box, seeing the quality of each attachment, what it's composed of Health for the Hair, Etc. Here'S my big opinion - and this changed so much over the past month using this device. I think where the shark stands out is actually for curly hair. Personally, if I was going to do this all over again, I would purchase the build your own option where I would get the wand styling attachments, the nozzle and the diffuser. That'S what I would put into my Kevy Dyson is my preference for all-around styling. I can do blowouts, I can do curls. I can do anything with the Dyson, except they don't have a diffuser, yet I'm sure eventually they will come out with one because it does seem like Dyson just keeps on improving their products. If you like to do super Sleek blowouts, then I would say the Dyson is for you, because right now the attachments for shark, for smoothing, are just not as good as the die set and I'm not saying that to be mean or unkind in any way. I can't even imagine how hard it must be to develop these kinds of tools, but I just have to be realistic when I'm, when I'm reviewing these for you, because I don't want you to get this attachment and think that it's going to be as good as Dysons, because it's just not there yet Dyson really does win when it comes to their round brush and their smoothing brushes versus the shark. So Dyson obviously is more expensive right now, because Dyson just switched out all the attachments for the re-engineered attachments. You can find some really good deals. Dyson has an official eBay outlet store, they have a six month warranty. I will list that below it's a great way to get a deal on an air wrap, and I know people get a little bit icked out buying hair tools that were already used, but just keep in mind anytime. You go to the hairdresser they're, not using a brand new curling iron every single time. You just need to Google how to sanitize hair tools. Sanitize it and you'll be good to go. It'S a great way to get hair tools and save some money. So I think the shark option is great for curly, hair and the Dyson is is amazing for all around hairstyles anything you want to do the Dyson can do. I hope that all the side by sides were helpful. Ask any questions, anything that you want to know. That'S what I'm here for, if you could give this video a thumbs up, I would really appreciate that text it to a friend whatever you want, and I will see you in the next video

ThatGirlMimi3: I REALLY wanted to luv the Shark bc of the price point ($350 Cdn vs the Dyson $750 Cdn). However, every single review I watch shows the negatives of the Shark. It seems it's biggest downfall is the heat and my intent is to prevent heat damage aka split ends! Hopefully the Dyson will have a grand Black Friday sale! Thanks for the review!

Lindsey Thies: Great review! I really think the Dyson side of your hair was shinier than the shark side. I just purchased the Shark and ut hasn’t arrived yet. I debated the size for a long time. I have arthritis in my hands. The diffuser and pivot neck really change my mind. I wasn’t sure that the the shape was worth the extra money. But seeing your review I am debating sending it back. I also agree about the metal on the brush attachments. Always love getting your opinions on things! Light therapy for aging?

KB Texas: Both sides look great because your hair (color, style, etc.) is beautiful! However, the Dyson side does look better to me, it looked smoother, shinier, and thicker.

Davina Reeves: Great review! Interestingly in the UK the shark is black/ rose gold and comes with a diffuser and storage case as standard x

Pamela H: I ordered a Dyson the first day of the Sephora sale. Getting 20% off is a big incentive for me. Hopefully my Dyson will be here this week sometime. This video is a great comparison. Thank you!

Kathleen Coomans: I don’t mind the extra heat as it makes the curl tighter and more lasting and I only need to do my hair once a week so heat damage isn’t an issue for me…

Stephanie: Thank you so much for this review! It was so helpful :) Which one do you think gives better volume?

Ligia Caldwell: Best comparison I've watched so far! and I've watched numerous videos : ) thanks!

Maggie Blackbird: Could you put the Shark tools in the Dyson storage box? I’ve seen the Dyson boxes sold separately.

Martine Sulpice: Thank you Molly ! ♡

Big booty hoe: Even if the attachments are cheaper you don't need all of them and have no choice lol so why pay for what you don't need who cares if it's cheaper per item if it's mandatory to buy all of them

SuperHamdim: How did the curls last?
