Jay Sebring - Hair Styling Lesson

The most famous hair stylist of his day Jay Sebring put himself in front of Sharon Tate when Manson Family hit man Charles " Tex " Watson to aim at her and Jay lost his life. This clip is from Jay's company which is still in business selling men's hair products and professional training. http://www.sebringintl.com/ In this clip Jay gives advice on how to make one of his groovy hairstyles. 1969-2009 40 Years. Never forget the victims.

So we're looking for here is the proper frame for the person's face. Everyone is basically looking for the same shape, even though they're not aware of it. It'S up to the professional to do the kind of work that the customer is going to light, but 9 out of 10 people. I would say everyone will like the shape that is most flattering for their face now. I'D like you to remember this illustration, because this is one of the basic principles of the whole fashion. Now that is this is an exaggeration, but this is the type of a look we want on the air. So, as you can see, the head is round, but what we want is a square look because it's more flattering so therefore we're going to have to cut the hair a little shorter here in the center, then here we leave it a little longer. The first time you see your customer, it's good if he's sitting in the chair with his head wet after the shampoo that way, you won't be influenced by the way his hair was styled before now, even though we're getting into our outline at this point, we still Want to bear in mind that the most progressive way to wear the hair is a way that it grows from the pores. We still achieve the same outline on your profile, that's primarily concerned with the nose and the back of the head at most points. The head is protruding in this area, so therefore we want to here a little shorter. So we get this kind of a line. The only exception of that rule would be if they had work flat. Then we take a little off of this area and make our neckline a little shorter here. If the nose is protruding, then we want to leave the hair a little for in the backs of the man. Isn'T all upfront also, we want to leave enough of an overhang in the front, but not to exceed the nose. It should just come back from the nose just a little ways now, because the head is curved in this area. That means that we're going to have to leave the hair a little longer in this area than we are at the high point of the head ear and the high point of the

trish Craig: So heartbreaking to hear his voice never knowing what he sounded like, so talented taken so soon. One hairdresser to another.‍♀️‍♂️

xRandax94: God I will always admire Jay for protecting Sharon. I believe he had no problem dying for her. God bless Jay.

Alyssa Robinson: This is just so heartbreaking.. thinking of how young he was taken from the world and he spent the last minutes of his life trying to defend and protect Sharon. I’ve no doubt, as some have said on here, that he would have died for her. Regardless of the rumors that have gone around about him and his sexual fetishes, he was a lovely man and very handsome and you could tell he really loved Sharon and was always there for her. They’re together now in heaven and thank god they’re at peace now, because it just rips my heart out to think of how they both died. They didn’t deserve to go like that.. fuck Tex Watson and the other evil fuckers who perpetrated this senseless crime

WTFProductions: RIP Jay. Thank you for being there for Sharon to help her that night. GOD Bless you !

paul tomkins: RIP Jay, you left us to soon. You were a Gentlemen. Your last act was to be a Hero

Mary S.: So ahead of his time. So much more he would have accomplished!

richard pullen: Respect to you, Jay, and anyone who was/is his family and friends.

bluecatky: Rest in peace, Jay. Sorry you had to die in that violent horrible way.

The Llama Lady: So spooky watching this, knowing what happened to him. He's been dead almost 50 years now. Poor Jay. Seemed like a nice guy.

Charles Nicholas: Less on his murder and more on his fantastic ability as a hair stylist!

Jack Johnson: Smart man, knew his craft. Many years ahead of others in the business. 50 years, still sad situation. Especially us dinosaurs who remember the tragedy well.

Tony63909: What a shame that Jay didn't get the chance to live a full life. This video further enhances my hatred for Charles Manson. Rest in Peace, Jay.

Lisa McLeod: He was the country's best hair dresser and would have done so much good for so many.My whole live I have thought of him and Sharon frequently and always feel very sick inside.Like as if they were a family member.I wish I could go back in time and change history every time I think of them.

noahh: Wish someone could put more training vids of jays , Legend .

Edgar Lee: He had a hand in discovering Bruce Lee by mentioning him to a producer for the TV series The Green Hornet after seeing him perform at the International Karate Championships in 1964.

Laurie Ford: Jay sounds like a smart man. R.I.P.

Malicious Monkey: My mom was a hair stylist for many years and some of knowledge on cutting men's hair was from watching my grandfather who was a barber and Jay Sebring.

soleil44: He definitely had a calling from some higher place, because who just chooses that, when there's no precedent for it? May he rest in peace.

Anon: I like the way he talks... he was also really handsome looking in one picture in particular R.I.P

andromedastar: They were pointing the gun at them and telling them to lay down on their stomachs. Jay said something about how it would be hurting Sharon to make her lay down like that because she was heavily pregnant. Watson then shot Jay, not in the head, in the chest, the bullet pierced his lung, but he was still alive. As he was on the floor in pain from the wound, Watson kicked him in the face several times, breaking his nose and eye socket. Jay didn't die until they stabbed him multiple times and he bled to death as he lay on the floor...he was killed before Sharon so she watched him dying as they were killing her...terrible.

james: Seeing this video and seeing the video's of their death scene makes me so sad!! They all died such horrific deaths at the hands of those FREAKS!!!

NJcruiser: Interesting to hear him speak after seeing so many still pictures of him.

Vicki Lawshe: Just stopping by to pay respects.

Richochet: I got my first Sebring haircut while I was in college in 1972. It cost $20 and it was great! Also bought the Sebring shampoo. Not so great!

GFY: Rest in peace my brother.

Maxi Pazz: It’s pretty sad to watch this but I’m also glad I did to see his personality

Baumer: Such a tragedy that night. And bizarre to me that the 2 missing guests that night, Bruce Lee and Steve McQueen, didn't live long afterwards. Bruce passed just 4 years later in 73 and Steve I believe 11 years later in 80. Life is so short. The last 20 years of my life have felt like 7 or 8.

Moon Child: Poor Jay rip. I'd like to see the whole film.

noahh: Could someone upload the entirevideo on youtube , so interesting and innovative way ahead of his time.

jeepgirlie70: how sad,,there was so much more potential for him in this business

nigel65deck: I wouldn't call someone who gave his life trying to save someone a poor bastard.

Star dog: how nice it would be to watch a video of such a talented guy without having to read a post about his horrendous death

Today Now: Dated. But still on point. RIP Jay Sebring.

Badfingerbabe777: Jay is very handsome and smart no wonder Sharon fell in love with him. He is special and what a hero that awful night,. I wish I could see the entire video for my own hair cutting . I do my dads hair haha.

Jack Johnson: Old school styling-barbering. Most don't have a clue cutting hair now. Sure think they do!

Dawnie Bee: Tex Watson told them to lay down on the floor on their stomachs. That was when Jay told him that Shannon was pregnant and that was when Tex Watson shot him. He stood up for her and God bless him for that, but he did not intercept a bullet that was ment for her.

Queen Of Cyanide: My Angel. RIP

Halfpipetrick1: first time ever seeing video of him. Apparently my mother was friends with him before I was born. :( Tragic.

lga2012: Jay started the whole concept[t of washing the hair and cutting it wet so you can cut the hair more accurately. Unfortunately, the newer cutters that are trained, really don't do it correctly. Jay and the original cutters always stood in front of the client and worked back to front. Now they stand in back of the client and go back to front. The form is not the same. I guess it's a close as you will ever get. Still the best mens hair cutting system in the world. the others are all spin offs.

Beth Wiegand: He was still in love with her...but, weren't we all.

Beatles0223: @Jeet27 Jay also jumpstarted Lee's career when he gave director William Dozier a tape of Lee and Dozier signed him for "The Green Hornet."

Bostonbob3: Jeez, it's so creepy (and ironic) that he's using a knife to illustrate his points. He was not a perfect man, but he was a hero. Standing in front of that evil shite-bag Tex Watson and telling him to leave a pregnant woman alone, while that a-hole was pointing a gun at him...rest in peace, Jay. (If there's a God, Tex never will.)

James Varela: @aftershock71 Vidal Sassoon said he was a visionary and that his work was revolutionary. He is the father of the modern hair salon.

Monstermack40: I feel terrible of how I'm thinking because I'm a Christian too Praise God. A person could go crazy thinking. Tex Watson is a Christian and a minister now but how are we suppose to feel about Him?

ARLENE BROWN: I'm a hair stylist we where taught don't fight mother nature you will lose

Piercing Fanatic: r.i.p Jay Sebring!

James Varela: @ExoticGawdess Jay's real name was Thomas J. Kummer. He took the trade name Sebring because he was a racing fan and went to the Sebring race often.

John Coontas: Certainly knew what he was talking about. I'd certainly would have let him cut my hair.

Diego Aguirre Bozzo: Subtitulos please!!!

p&b: Poor Jay.

tony232cool: died exactly 50 years ago today. rip the movie and searching emile hirch brought me here.

Wayne Baxter: I’d have liked to have seen more than that!

Randy Stroder: Jay would have been 87 today. Oct. 10th.

Queen Of Cyanide: He is not using a knife,,it is a scissor

SoJustCool: whats weird is i randomly thought of jay sebring and this video was uploaded on this day 8 years ago

spudwas: Can someone upload the full promo film which this clip is from? This was filmed a month before he was killed.

Honey Chiles: He had it down to a science

Nicky Poundtown: Gotta love that gold rush accent

johnny10301968: I heard Jay Sebring was a protege to Vidal Sassoon.

Kathy EBERHARDT: JAY MAY YOU REST IN PEACE KATHY EBERHARDT

Left Handed Baker: 1:07 *Jay* Moving on with the lesson *Skaters* Yo fam I got an idea

Rosana Linarejos ortiz: Poor man.

David Armstrong: Thank you.

RockAndRollMassacre: 'hollywood's candy man'

James Varela: @lovedandhis Yes, several months before the Manson murders.

Victoria Louden: notice he is holding scissors??

665kk: @omgcancer omg i know i heard that!!! so sad :( The guy who lives there should get like a psychic and cross them over!

Danny B: Those would be scissors

665kk: @magus5555 i agree lol

Monstermack40: @Bostonbob3 Oh there is a God, and He gives us all what we don't deserve, mercy.

Murder Mittens: @665kk if they are still trapped there they need help

Half Rutter: Too bad he’s not around to do Trump’s hair! So sad how he died and so young and talented.

Beatles0223: @Jeet27 And here I was thinking I was telling you something. Lol. :-)

steven sherrier: His style of doing hair died a long long time ago. In 1969 to be exact and it can stay there where it is. Boring...
