Hey curlfriends, i'm bianca and you're watching beyond grenade today and today we're gon na talk about one of the most common curly hair struggles, which is shrinkage. We have longer hair than most people think they would just never know, because our curls spring up and make it look way shorter than it actually is. So i'm going to show you some tips to make your hair look longer and hold that elongated. Look all by how you style your hair, how you style your hair is the main game changer between your hair. Looking like it's up here versus down to here, i may be able to give you an extra couple inches which will make it look much longer starting off on freshly washed hair. I actually finger detangled this side and i used a brush on this side and all i used was a co-wash today. This is the twist by we dad big, rich and dreamy ultra hydrating co-wash. This portion of today's video is sponsored by twist. So thank you. So much for sponsoring this video, but this is one of my favorite co-washes. I actually only like two co-washes in the world, but this one is the most affordable one. This is a 16 fluid ounce ball and it's only like 10. So you definitely get your money's worth that has a great slip and smells amazing. Now i'm going to show you how i can use pretty much the same exact stylers and get two different results, depending on how i style my hair. So i'm going to start off with the curl goals: moisture, lock, leave-in conditioner, it's supposed to detangle soften shape your hair. This has three little droplets on it, which is the different indicators that twist puts on their products. Show you how much moisture you're gon na get and this product is sulfate paraben and silicone free, so i'm gon na spritz this on to get my hair some extra moisture. I like the smell this one too. I'M gon na do a little split test today. This is gon na, be my elongated side, and this is gon na, be my shrunken upside. So, instead of just finger detangling like i normally do i'm going to use a brush on this side, because when i use a brush i get way more definition. But with more definition comes more shrinkage, so i'm going to use this felicia leatherwood detangler brush. I don't think i've showed this on my channel before it's, not my favorite to detangle. To be honest, it kind of reminds me of the deadman brush, but i would use it more for like after i detangle and for definition, that's the leave-in on that side, i'm gon na scrunch up when you're scrunching up all the time, you're bringing your curls up Crunch scrunch giving your bigger chunks of curls. Now this side, i'm going to apply some more product and i'm just going to use my finger and i'm going to stretch it down all right. So i'm smoothing this one down all about the stretch. I want to stretch my hair as much as possible. You could already see a difference so this side, i scrunched scrunched it up this side. I just finger detangled there. We have that now, i'm going to add the boss bounce light as air buildable styling cream. This is supposed to shape, support and define your curls. Now. The red bottles by twist are the ultimate moisture. So if you have very, very dry, hair you're gon na want to go for the red bottles, because that has one two three four five little water droplets here at the bottom. So, on the side where i'm probably gon na have more shrinkage, i'm going to apply more product when you add a cream styler. Oh, this is thick okay. If you use thick products on fine or low porosity hair, it could weigh down your hair, but i'm gon na use a little bit of this, because i noticed when i use a cream styler, i tend to get more shrinkage because, with cream comes moisture, moisture means Less frizz cream stylers often don't have a hole they're just to make your curls nice soft and defined. But i'm going to show you today how important using a gel is to hold your curls in a more elongated state. So i'm going to add this in here and then actually stop after the cream, see i'm so used to using my hands. Okay, let me use my brush on this side like i'm supposed to. If i use a brush, i will get bigger chunks of curls by doing sections more definition comes more shrinkage and then i'm gon na scrunch it back up. There'S that side. If i had to guess, i would assume that this side is probably gon na. Look more juicier, let me maybe a little bit more moisturized, but definitely shorter. Now, on this side, i'm just going to use a little finger dollop, because when i use less product i also seem to get more elongation and i'm only going to really focus it. On my ends, barely put it to the top, since we already got that moisture from the leave-in, and that is because i have low porosity fine hair. You probably could use more if you have high porosity or very thick hair once again bringing everything down and doing barely any scrunching, just like like that, let's see how we're looking this side still winning in the elongation department. We are past the boob here, not so much there. Now i'm going to get the gel, i'm not going to apply a gel on this side, because i want you to see how a cream styler on its own does. But if you want elongation do not be afraid of gel, so many of you are afraid to use a gel because you don't like that crunchy feeling you can get a soft hole gel this one. The weather of gel is a soft hold. It'S still frizz fridging long lasting, it says no crunch and it only has one little droplet for moisture, because that's not the main reason for a gel you don't you shouldn't look for moisture in gel any gel, so i'm gon na apply a lot of gel on This side, oh this one smells the best. I think out of the twist products and i'm gon na smooth this down. Everything is down down and away from the scalp, but down and i'm not gon na use a brush. That'S that side on the top - and here is this side - you could already tell before you even dry your hair, how it's gon na look when you just style. This is the brush side. Look at my curls are much thicker when i use a brush. Look at this beautiful curl, oh juicy, that's definitely going to shrink up and this one we're going to leave like this. Now let this air dry for just a little bit, then i'm going to come back and show you how to diffuse to make your hair look longer and i'm back, i waited maybe 30 minutes, but i'm going to start diffusing now, as you can see, the side Is still a little bit shorter, i'm going to grab my diffuser on the shrinkage side, i'm going to be diffusing up like this. It'S going to give it even more definition where this side i'm going to diffuse down and even pull it to keep that elongation. Let me show you wow. I haven't done this in a long time because i know what happens but wow. You guys would have thought that i cut my hair. Like i literally could april fools you guys and say yeah. I did another big chop shoulder length, shoulder length, shrinkage like that's wild and that's all about how you style and diffuse your hair. If you diffuse up and shrink it up, it's going to shrink up. I also have some bigger clumps because of the brush. So now i have to like, i could spread this out and make more volume, but if you get those bigger, juicier, very moisturized and defined curls, it's going to look a lot shorter, i'm shocked! Now. Let me do this side and show you how you should do it if you want it elongated once again, everything's going to be in a downward motion, so we're kind of just trying to dry our hair, but not really shrink it up. So i do have a little bit of a cast forming from that gel and now, let's start from the roots and then work our way down. Do you see what i see wow? It looks like. I have way more hair in general on this side. It'S fuller and longer wow, so, as you can see, i basically used the same exact products. This side i added a gel. I probably could have got similar results from even just using a cream finger detangling not using a brush, stretching it down diffusing down, but i always will get the most elongation when i add a gel on top because you need that hold to keep it stretched. How many more inches am i getting here at least like four, maybe five more inches just from different styling techniques? Now this side, the curls, are still popping, i mean look everyone's just very bunched together everyone's very moisturized. Look at these cute little ringlets, like you, can't beat this type of definition, but even if i try to take it out a little bit, it's just gon na be so much shorter. Gena Marie: Love this comparison! My curls are looser so I find that using a gel for hold actually helps to hold the curls up instead of falling limp throughout the week!

Resi 2020: That is the magic of having curly hair, we can have so many different styles just changing techniques and products...

Aimee Daniels: I'm actually here to get the shrinkage tips I love the shorter more defined look and I tend to get scissor happy so hopefully this helps with all of that ❤️

Karell Williams: It's a blessing to have curls. You can have long hair one day and short hair the other without cutting it :)

Felicia Russell: Perfect! Today is wash day. I will be trying these tips. I’ve never pulled my hair when diffusing, but that’s a great idea . We all know shrinkage is a sign of healthy curls, but when you’re trying to grow it out, you just want to see some progress, LOL!

Briana Table: I’ll take the shrinkage for that definition! I find that my defined hair lasts longer. Like I literally just take it out of my bonnet and fluff at the roots and I’m good to go for three days. Whereas when I go for length I’m already looking frizzy day 2. And I’m am not one to a refresh process

Candy L: This video came just in time. Today is wash day so I'll be trying out the elongation technique.

Pon Deck: I my shrinkage... brushing into smaller piecier clumps is a good sweet spot for me in terms of nice volume & avoiding the whole Shirley Temple effect. Great demonstration of the versatility your hair gets with different styling techniques, B!!! xo

Nicole Smith: This is so helpful for styling my 13 year old’s hair. We could never figure out why her almost waist length hair went nearly to her shoulders. Thank you for this!

christine1962ful: That was amazing! I would love to see this done on 10" kinky coily hair and see how well it works. Tfs. We have different textures but subbing as I think I can learn a few new tips etc and I love your energy!

Isa S.-Ruiz: im OBSESSED thank you sm as someone who hates having my hair short I'm glad to have a video showing I can have definition and length! love love love

Courtney Bracey: Thank you for this video! I’ve done my hair both ways but swore I was doing it one way all the time and then sat back confused as to why it wasn’t as cute as I wanted. Now I can get my curls together!

Makudonfries: It's wash day tomorrow and I've been struggling with keeping my hair lengthy. It always ends up clumping like a smooshed spider web and this video is literally perfect timing.

Kayla G.: I wouldn’t say shrinkage is a struggle, I like my shrinkage, it means my hair is MAXED defined

Ko'lana Kurls: SUPER helpful! I have fine, high porosity hair and it’s amazing how it can look like I’ve cut it simply by using a brush vs my fingers. I have 3 different curl patterns so I ALWAYS use gel on my kinkiest section (I learned early on that gel helps with elongation) And depending on what I want, it’s good to know how to get that shrunken defined look for the days when I want to wear a puff when my hair is actually too long for real puffs anymore! Downward diffusing (mind blown ) Your tips are on point!

chilla0803: We need to learn to love shrinkage! It's why our hair is so versatile! I think it's cool you can have a short look without cutting your hair and be back to longer the next day. #ShrinkageIsBeautiful

Nicole M: Thank you! The struggle is real with shrinkage. I’m going to test your technique today.

GlamTam: Wow! Beautiful I needed this video because I use to love definition and clumped curls but lately I been wanting to achieve longer curls! I Will definitely be trying these techniques next wash day!

Pops Chev: Giiiiiirl !!! Why did I never heard that before, I think you just changed my life I didn’t accept my curl because of all the shrinking and was depressed no matter how long they were it never showed !!! Thank youuuuuuu

Steph P: ❤️this! I definitely need to try the finger combing and pull my hair while diffusing. My 3C curls are below my shoulders when wet, and below my ears when dry.

l desiree: I use a combination of a denman brush and the praying hands method when I style my curls. I have thick mostly 3c medium porosity hair with a small section of 4a low porosity and 3b medium porosity section in the very back. I usually have very defined curls but I don’t get as much shrinkage since I use the praying hands method at the end to stretch them out. I almost always use a gel, otherwise my wash n go will not last. Also if I diffuse, I don’t diffuse upwards. I always diffuse along the strands and I may pull on the ends a bit.

Ana Xo: I wish there was a video on how to prevent hair from getting matted after washing, detangling and styling. After doing all of that my hair tangles when dry.

reginesimonee: I’ve convinced myself you filmed this video based solely off my insta comment about shrinkage so thanks for that you’re always going to be my go-to source for inspo and instruction ❤️

Tatyanna Hayward: The Felicia Leatherwood brush is my staple . I use it a detangling brush, amazing for really thick hair. It’s the only brush that can smooth my hair at once (after I detangle it and brush my hair into a bun).

Angelica Grills: Thank you so much for the video. I am going to share this on the long hair group I belong to on Facebook for my other curlies. You are so right that shrinkage ( not a bad thing if that is the look you are going for) can be a little discouraging when you are trying to grow your hair and see the growth. My hair is actually waist length, but shrinkage brings it up to bra strap length. I am totally going to try this and maybe finally get a diffuser for the winter ( I really want to try that stretch diffusing). Thanks again♥

Sherry Marie: We are curl twins. My curl pattern is just like yours! Definitely trying these products and technique.

Mila N San: Thank you so much for this tip!!! ❤️ My hair is very curly and tight…your technic is definitely helpful

Adrianna Ruiz: This is so helpful, my hair always shrinks up and I’m much more focused on definition vs volume.

WHAT AM I DOING HERE: I use both of these methods! The elongation method for the sides of my hair, shrunken method for my bangs (well they're extremely overgrown now XD)

Gigi Reddick: Love this video....I suffer from major shrinkage!! These tips should help. Love the jumbo size affordable products big win all around!! Thanks Bianca Renee!!❤

Rebecca Blair: Oh this is great! Def going to be trying it out. Practicing different wedding styles so this is helpful. Thanks Bianca!

Em-2013: My hair shrinks up over anything. I have 3b/3c hair. But as annoying as it sometimes is… Shrinkage mostly means healthy hair. The more springy, defined the curls are, the healthier it is.

PuffinLikeWhat: My favorite soft hold gel is the Shea moisture 100% virgin coconut oil styling gel. It’s amazing.

Em Beauty9: I just found this channel and it’s amazing! I used to think I only had wavy hair but now I found I have beautiful curls. This has helped me learn a lot and I’m excited to learn mire

Hilda Figueroa: Thank you Bianca! I have the Twist hairline and it's awesome . You show me how to diffused my dry curly hair in another and easier form. You're awesome . THANK YOU SO MUCH AND HAVE A BLESS SUNDAY

Tyler Wisby: So happy you are still making curly hair videos your hair is so long and beautiful and it’s so nice to follow and watch your hair journey

smile 23: Yes are you reading my mind? I just looked at your curls the other day and I thought wow I wish my curls were more elongated have hair to the middle of back but my shrinkage takes me shoulder length sometimes even shorter thank you for this!

Jazmin Jordan: Love this comparison! Love the elongated side but I also like the shrunken side. Thanks for the tips!

Esther: Bianca how’d you know I needed this I swear you always post exactly what I need

Janelle Bailey: I put my hair in twists, but I will definitely try this when I decide to take them out.

Pooja Bhavsar: Hi BiancaRenee, I don't typically use any styling products in my hair due to it being fine. I also find that somehow the product always gets too close to the scalp and shows. Any tips for somehow getting volume at the top? Thanks in advance!

HollowedJes: Is it just me, but when I used the Twist by Ouidad products Bianca promoted a couple months back, they dried out my hair like crazy!! It was terrible! I bought the package of products that was recommended for me when I took the quiz, and I got that co-wash, the black deep conditioning treatment, their "shampoo", the curl refresh spray, the gel, and I think a leave-in, but all of it-- ALL OF IT, dried my hair out! It didn't feel moisturized at all, the co-wash made my hair feel squeaky when I would wash it out, and even the leave-in did nothing but weigh down my hair while still drying it out! My hair felt like straw! I was so devastated because I was looking forward to buying a curl care line that could do the same things the brand names promise but cheaper, and have beautiful curls like Bianca! But all it did was dry out my hair so bad and cause *more* breakage and hair loss! I feel like I've been chasing after my soft beautiful hair ever since using those Twist products, and using drugstore/grocery store hair products because I can't always get Curlsmith, Rizo's, or LUS! I decided though that I'm sticking to what I already know works for my hair-- even if it's on the pricey side, my curls deserve it! I just bought the new shampoo and conditioner for low porosity hair from Curlsmith, and I pray it works!

Bri Micke'l: Thank you I needed this when my hair was longer lol and before I chopped it off…but I’ll use this for when I grow it back out.

Dupe Ekhaese: Always trying to elongate my curls so this video is very helpful.

Rachel Ilous: I’m mind blown !!! I’ve been doing it all wrong !! This was super helpful , thank you !

Gina: WILD! Thanks for making this, Bianca! I'm going to go and buy those twist products!

templar: i always wondered why my hair would always look different every time i styled it. im torn because i love the definition my hair has when its short but have been growing my hair out for a reason! will definitely try the elongated style on my next wash day to see if i should go back to finger detangling

Saba G: Will definitely try the twist cream. Thank you for reviewing affordable drug store products like this one

Jessica Omana: This is exactly what I need!

Edith Fisher: Thank you sooo much for your video. I love being natural but the shrinkage I hate. Definitely gonna try your tips on my next wash day. I do have some of the Twist products so thats an even greater plus.

Penny Warren: I never knew the techniques for drying mattered! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge.

Amanda94R: Recently got bangs and yeaaaaa the shrinkage is real I even saved this video to refer back to later once I finally got some gel. Will be trying this out today.

red poppy: This was really helpful, thank you ❤

Islam Abdelrazig: Thank you so so much that’s exactly what I needed

Arriivin Mutiran: For me it's the exact opposite. I have trouble with hair shrinking too less. My curls don't shrink enough and I need tips for that hahah.

Myiesha: Thank you so much for the help, Bianca!

Heather Kramer: Brilliant! Just the advice I needed so I look less like a ! Thank you!

Maya Zwang: This is so great - thank you, Bianca!

Charnette Carrington: Loved this video! Super helpful!! i’ve done this to myself mistakenly and never picked up the diffuser again because of it!! finally know what i did wrong! thank you!!

psr076: This video came just in time. It's wash today and I was thinking how I didn't want to much shrinkage today

Sabaina channel: Thanks so much this really is helpful for me and my daughters

Marilyn P: Definitely trying this my next wash day. But question, I don’t normally use a brush during styling. I only use it in the shower after deep conditioning to detangle. Should I finger detangle for that step as well? It seems like my hair always shrinks up regardless of the tool or the way I stretch with blow dryer after diffusing. My hair is thick and low porosity.

Beatriz da Silva: Amei a dica

BA178_F: Love the video! I just have to ask…did you wear your hair in a curly split level or did you end up stretching the other side to match? (No shade by this comment! Just curious ❤️)

Meriah Brown: I’m trying this for my wash day today!!!

Sarail Vazquez Ortiz: Wow wow wow. Definitely a huge difference! Thanks for share

TWS1977: My hair never liked gels or noises. It dries my hair out so badly. I mix a cream styler and gel. Camille Rose curl maker seems to be the only one that works for my type 4 low porosity hair

Ariel Witcher: This was a super helpful video thank you!!!

sparkle11971: Just bought all 4 through your link. I hope they work for my hair. I'll try the method. My hair shrinks so bad it looks like I have a Bob even though my hair stretched is in the middle of my chest.

Micaela Rosario: In such a crazy world...filled with all types of unpleasant chatter...I am so happy to come here and just enjoy the love of curls! Seriously, thank you.

Liyah X: Literally insane I’m One of those curly girls i love length over volume so thank u thank u

Zaho0ratb: I’ve been looking for a video regarding shrinking for a while and the time I decided im tired of my curls and got a pixie cut and i have an appointment next week to get it chemically straighten this video appears

Peachkins: I love your personality thank you for the tips!

Taylor jay: Perfect!! I finally bought a diffuser and it’s wash day!!!!

Stephanie Ortiz: I absolutely loved this video! Keep it up

Curly: I want all the definition and shrinkage I can get so I’m watching to make sure I DON’T do any of this

Carlene Clark: Wow ! Looks good. Thanks for the info.❤️

VALYA'S BEAUTY: Your tips are so useful!

~hetakusew~: I’m definitely gonna have to try these tips out on my next wash day!

A B: This was amazing! Thanks , I have veeeery short hair and always use a brush, now I know what to do

Ange N.O.: The concentration attachment on the Dyson give me alllllll the elongation. I'll go from jaw length to shoulder length when I use it

Frugal Fixer: My daughter said you look like a Barbie doll. I wondered what was wrong with my hair because the longer it gets the shorter it looks. It's nice to see different elongation methods

Arelis: Amazing! Will try the elongation tips!

Kitsumae Mancia: Girl mind blown!!! I can’t believe the difference!! I have maybe 2-3 inches less then you and then I go on my way and boom shoulder length hair. Deff going to use these tips! Thank you thank you thank you!!!!

lyss: With or without hair products, you need conditioner (alot) and some water, and a brush You do not need to spend money on 'special curl products' but if it makes you feel happy, go ahead. All it is, is conditioner and water

Alessia Simmonds: These videos are so satisfying. I wish I could Just split my hair in two sections and finger detangle my hair LOL

C. C.: Bianca. Using Twist!!! I love love the black bottles of twist and their boss bounce! Very moisturizing. Just started using the co wash you showed.

SoniaG: Love love LOVE this type of content ❤❤❤

Cakesandrainbows Rainbowsandcakes: Amazing video, so helpful

Asma Saeed: Wow definitely I’m gonna try it who don’t want long curly hair

Beautiful Mariah: Hilarious that the definition/shrinkage technique is what I’m more interested inI like my butt length hair so I won’t chop it HOWEVER it being so long also makes it heavy therefore making it elongated gonna try the shrinkage side

Tata: The video I was looking for! Thank you! :D

Curls xx: Really helpful tips. I had the best wash and go and it looked like your right side.

M R M: Thank you. I have the same problem and like how you diffused the long side.

Maliyah Ortega: wow!!!!! I’m so.. speechless. Thank you for this you saved my life

Krystal L. Pérez Martínez: I can't speak for all wavy's but I am a wavy girl and I do enjoy shrinkage just because of the definition that it gives my hair. I enjoy the big clumps and it makes my hair seem to have a more curlier pattern than the S shape which I absolutely love. My my hair is a combination where you can see waves and sometimes a few curls so I enjoy the shrinkage more because of that curlier definition. But whenever I wanna just be just big fluid hair I just don't do much to my hair just put on a cream that has hold or a gel, which it's very pretty too because it gives me a very fluid and wavy Texture which I really like also. Love ur hair.

Bianca DeLeon: Your hair grew so fast you look stunning

chn nnnj1 ,': BiancaRenee, May God continue to bless you, your family, and Business in Jesus name!

Anfani Vincent: Super helpful! I now know we how to do it right lol

Kaylin Cloete: @Bianca your elongated side looks better, it's probably cause I'm use to watching your videos where your hair is longer Thank you for the tips, highly appreciated ❤
