Hi, my name is Maureen. Thank you for joining me here at hedging salon and spa in Portland, Maine curls can be known to be very inconsistent and with my model today, I wanted to show how she has that kind of hair. That is a little straighter in the front and almost a little curlier in the back, and so I want to show you a really cool thing that you can do with flexi rods to create a more consistent curl from the back to the front. To start you'll want to know what size of curl you want to achieve, so that you can pick out the rod width that is best for the curl pattern that you want to mimic, and once you have picked that, then you want to get the hair wet And wrap it while it's wet and so on that note I'm going to take a moment and go rinse and cleanse my clients hair and get our wet and then apply the rods great and now I'm back from the shampoo bowl. We are going to first prep. The hair, which is really important, I'm going to first put in a little bit of a volumizer. Our antigravity volume mist from use me a light mist of that just protecting her face a beautiful mist all over work that, through it, will help to volumize and detangle. This fine hair and then a little bit of hold, so I have use these curls and shine cream. Just a nice pump of that working it through. First. The ends which, with fine curly hair, can sometimes be a little straighter and not as curly and also all through this front section where the hair was more straight and not as congruent with the curls in the back. So working that, through from the ends to the roots, evenly good, and so now it's important I'm going to first section the hair and scrunch and twist this back section to make it have its maximum amount of curl and so to do that just sectioning this area, I'M grabbing little sections combing through and then twisting and there you can see that's her natural curl and so I'm gon na keep doing this all the way through to decide how much you want to see how big the the curls are when they're wet and for The most part, when you twist it it will be around the size of a skinny pencil and usually the curls go in counterclockwise direction, but you might find once in a while that one goes the other way. So this is a really cool way of getting the most curl from the back, so that we can really see what we want to match the front with with the flexi rods, so I'm going to just continue twisting. I just grabbed this whole large section up here. Comb it through lightly, it doesn't have to be perfect sections. You really want to be very organic, so this isn't a good example of when a curl is not twisted the right way. It will actually appear more straight, so when you do want to achieve the most curl or know that your mat matching your flexi rods up or your curlers up, then you want to make sure that you curled it so that it's really curling to its maximum. So twisting all the way down giving it a little pump finishing with these back sections, it's easier, sometimes to start from the bottom and work up and when doing your own, I highly recommend sectioning it off with clips so that you can work in one area at A time and not tangle the hairs together or confuse your fingers good so now that that back section is complete, I'm going to work up working up towards the front towards those straighter hairs where I'll be putting in the flexi rods and creating more curl ringlets with Them in the front for maximum volume with the curls on top, you always want to twist them at 90 degrees from the scalp going straight up and twist them straight up, and then let it go, and it will do its own thing. This moving along. Leaving that front section out right now, working into the other sign, leaving those front straight parts out, the hair will respond much easier with the use of some volume, mist and curl up and shine to maintain the porosity. Even the porosity encouraged the curls to stick together, reduce frizz and also after the flexi rods are taken out. It won't leave a crunchy feel to the hair. It will still be really soft and touchable and bouncy and shiny great. So you can see the entire back. Now has been twisted and now to the front, getting those flexi rods and now putting them in to match up with these curls. So looking at these curls over here feel that my orange one right here, it's a perfect fit. So I'm going to be using the orange rod so, depending on the curl you're, going to find the rod that matches best. So first thing you want to know if, if you want the hairs to go back or forward like with bangs and with my model today, I'm going to have them go back to encourage a little bit more volume and lift. So, starting with this front section you're going to give her just a little bit of a cleaner part right here and taking my rod, I'm going to get a section that is the same width of my rod. So, looking at that, here's - the width just starting with this section here taking it - you want to comb it smoothly out fold it up at 90 degrees, grab the rod and then you're, going to twist the hair around the rod, securing the very end with your fingertips And then wrap it almost holding the little end with the rest of the hair, wrap it twist it up and then it stops. And then these are really cool, because all you do is then flexible rag, and so then that can stay tip to to you can kind of play around with where it needs to bend depending on what else you're doing so that stays nicely right there, and so I'M going to do two more right here again, making sure that it's the same width of the rod, so here's one more driving it wrapping the end, making sure that the end is very smooth at the end is not smooth. It will look crimped or what we call the fishhook so making sure the end is nice and smooth wrapping and then turn all the way back and then bend it great one more right here. Flexi rods are great for little kids, because they're a little bit more soft and squishy. They won't be so hard she's, not a little kid, but it will be more comfortable for her. I like her. I want her to be comfortable so then making sure that that little end is nice and smooth in there wrapped up gently wrapping it up to do, and it's okay, that it's a smaller piece. They don't have to be big large ones because remember we're trying to match and mimic the curls in the back so then wrap that up, and there is one section of flexi rods and the hair.
