As a cosmetology instructor, I’m TIRED. Tired of the fact that straight hair is pretty much all that’s taught in cosmetology school. TIRED that the excuse we are given is “hair is hair.”

TIRED of being told “cosmetology school is just for teaching you the basics” as if basic haircare shouldn’t be taught for curls, coils, and kinks.

I’m TIRED of the status quo, and I’m so beyond ready for change.

Because of that I had these mannequins custom made, and my hope is that it is the catalyst for the change I want to see in this industry. I hope it brings us one step closer to equity and equality… I know it’s made a massive difference for my students.

They deserve a WELL ROUNDED education that teaches more than the test, more than straight hair, more than what was taught in the years before us. Their future clients deserve a stylist who can care for their tresses properly, with respect.

I’ll be doing tutorials on these mannequins soon, and I hope that they prove to be a blessing.

You know I love you boo!

So today my students went through two-strand twisting and natural hair styling through the process. They got to learn things like how to correctly detangle the hair, while ensuring that you're not causing breakage and damage ensuring the hair stays evenly wet, how to correctly grip the hair to ensure that your twists look nice and smooth layering products correctly and ultimately, i think Some of them did a really great job. Obviously everyone had different types of styles and word size twists things like that, but we had a whole box of these. I was able to custom order online. I had to go through a lot to get these, but i'm so grateful because it allowed my students to get a chance to do some hands-on work with natural hair and honestly. I think they did a good job.

faucikillspuppies: This is amazing! Maybe in the future black women can walk into almost any salon and be serviced by someone who knows what they are doing.

Amber D: Hey GlamFam‍♀️ I'm loving the short uploads. Thanks for using your platform to spread knowledge on black hair textures. Big ups to you.

Jacquie Sutton: You did a GOOD job teaching proper hair care for natural hair to your students! You saw a need and you solved this for your school community. We need this type of awareness. Black hair care has not been represented in a way it should (be). Knowledge is POWER! You go!

Tracy: I love the texture of the mannequins hair. Research paid off. Great job!

Christine Hughes: I’m already a licensed cosmetologist but I want to come to your school and learn more!

CurlyNella1011: You are definitely setting up many people of all backgrounds to know how to do natural hair

Jazzie Daniels: I literally said out loud while nodding "I fuck with him" lol Clearly my subconscious said you're the shit, so my mouth said how I felt without warrant‍♀️ This is everything because when I was in hair school, we had 1 natural hair mannequin. Her hair was like wires and they immediately had us give her a relaxer so whatever texture she did have was gone before we even started learning on her forreal. That was 11-12 years ago though so it's nice to see teacher who care about ALL hair types being taught properly.

Erian Dylan: I love the style in which you educate people. Thank you!

Michele H.: They DID do a really great job! Of course they have an amazing teacher who won’t let them leave school without a complete education! Maybe if they wanted to teach me something besides finger waves and stiff spray, I would have stayed in hair school. But I only wanted to braid hair, & at that time, that involved caring for natural hair. Nobody seemed to know how. Sad but true.

MLJ: I would just like to say that you’re an awesome instructor to go and find mannequin heads with textured hair for your students. Preparing them better for the real world.I remember back in the day I went to a couple of hair schools to give the less experienced stylist a chance and royally regretted it. So kudos to you!

Sire Eminence Zakkiyyiah: I LOVE THIS! I am in cosmetology school right now and we have NEVER touched Dionne! Thank you so much.

Otto Sean Christopher Mastuh OSCG 8845 Grimsley: I'm so happy for your students being able to achieve this.

Sheda One: Again, kudos to you!!! This makes me smile B I G!!! Lovin’ it!!!

Mak Reviews: I want to cry! This is great and the first time I’m seeing Afro-textured mannequin heads. The cosmetology schools need to teach how to cate for our hair properly. Seeing that it finally is happening gives me hope.

Audria Courtney: Nice! I really wish I would’ve done the cosmetology program in high school (long ago lol)! I did a tour at the Paul Mitchell School a few years ago just to see what it was like. Super cool very exciting and inspiring... til she showed me the price! It was about what I paid for my undergrad degree for a 2 year program! So I passed, but when I retire from teaching I still wanna go!!

Shirley Mcpherson: You're one of those special teachers that goes the extra mile the world is diverse so why not teach them how to work on different ethnicities If you only knew how many times I've walked into a salon only to be told that there was no one there that could do my hair if you know what I mean salons should be more diverse especially in the south it just not the case thanks for teaching a new generation of young people that all hair matters

Polly: Omg this makes me so happy!!

Regina Deadrick: Bravo and kudos for your approach to diversity and inclusion in your subject matter instruction.

Jenn Rants: One thing I never got much opportunity to learn to work with was African American/"natural " hair types. It was never taught to me in school and sadly I never had much opportunity in the salon. My last year or two of working professionally on hair I got a couple of women who came in the salon. I told them flat out, I'd never had the chance to work this particular hair type, and was told by both that if I felt comfortable, to give it my best. I felt honored that they would let me try. We talked fir a bit, and they gave me some tips... I worked slowly, they were super patient and in the end they were both happy. I was so nervous both times, but they women seemed to be thankful that I was honest and willing to give it my best, and I was honored they were willing to trust me. It was one of my favorite experiences in my career. I also feel ALL hair related classes should include this.... it's crazy to me that they don't

Speak life: This is dedication. So proud of you!

Cathye Cooper: Your dedication to your profession shows ~ nice

QUIDDITY JANELLIE: Hey I was wandering if you can do a video about twa hair? I'm 13 and I don't have anybody to teach me to do my hair I'm really struggling and nothing works. I love your vids and keep going!

Chela Wooten: BIG kudos to you for doing this!! Absolutely amazing ♥️

Michael G: Although I’m a person with anyone near this texture of hair, I am soooo happy to this type of content on the internet and that’s kind education being taught to budding hairstylists.

Tonji Rucker: I believe there's a scene in the Chris Rock hair-industry-documentary, 'Good Hair', where when asking the Asian retailers if they would sell African hair weaves, the said 'no' because it wouldn't sell. Yet now in many of these same businesses they sell "yaky"/"kinky" hair. To God be the glory for these mannequins, but what I'd really like to see is Black retailers Owning a serious share of the Multi-Gazillion Dollar Industry! Not limited to certain se6gment of the business, but in world-wide production & distributorship to circulate that money in our community. It's not just time, it's reparations for all who have /still benefit from our dollars.

krysalious: You're such a great teacher. I love what your doing for your students and our community. This step you're doing will spiderweb out and help many more people after they graduate and pursue their dreams.

Terry Germany: Amazing! Thanks for going to the extra mile and giving us such good tips in your videos.

Angela Lee: As usual you deliver exactly what we need. Thank you

Elizabeth Hawkes: Linwood what methods do you use to manage any pain when it comes to doing hair?

Vanessa Yates: I love this and thank you. I wish , that I could be a client of yours and to learn about my own natural hair care . Understanding our own natural hair is long over due. We were shamed in many ways about ourselves , our natural hair was / is a huge one and you are helping in our freedom from the shame from the poison of our enslavors !!!!! Please keep doing what you are doing and add more !!!

Tyra: Yesssss I truly hate when my main black owned shop is unavailable and the only other shops are uneducated on black hair but now the game is changing

Kawanah Ahparayam: Yeeeesssssssss!!!! Thank you for working so hard to get our hair type in the game!!

Cynergy1969: This is awesome. I myself appreciate you doing this. Why hadn't this been done before. It makes so much more sense. I find that more black barber and beauty shop owners are more familiar with our black, kinky coiled hair than most caucasian barber and beauty salons. 98% of them can't cut our hair.

Andrea Brown: Once again another great teaching moment. Please continue to share your knowledge. So that would be future stylist aren't afraid of natural hair. I am not a stylist but it seems its easier to slap some relaxer in a client head. Those that prefer a natural look is like finding a needle in a haystack when it comes to finding a stylist who isn't afraid to do natural hair and real talk that's where the money is

Sharon Skipper: Awesome you are an amazing husband father stylist and instructor. Yes I believe that as a student they should know how to do all texture of hair

Allysse: You are amazingggggg for this Linwood! No shade to Aveda but all my mannequins were named Debra and her hair was very straight but somehow very nappy at the same time. I was very confused. I know this hair but my less pigmented classmates always wanted to throw me the kinky curly clients because they were scared. Anywhoo! These mannequins are beautiful I want to order her !!

Joycelyn Taylor: Teaching your students to care for textured hair has made them more knowledgeable and marketable. Having you as a teacher is very advantageous. There will be many years of joy at their graduation. As always.....thanks for sharing the knowledge!

Shun Y.: They did a great job and so did you with working hard to teach them correctly with these heads. The fact that you went through the effort to get these speaks volumes.

S Dickerson: love this. We didn't have these in cosmology, we just practiced on each other

Hailers Bucklebury: This is great. I’m actually going to purchase a mannequin just for my two daughters to play with lol x

msllubin8: Finally!! That's amazing

Living Water with Sister Glenda: Oh wow this is so great back in day when I went to beauty school they didn't have anything like this for us. Congratulations

Dale Underdue: Linwood, you are definitely a MASTER of your craft❣

Stephanie Berry: He is dope AF for doing something out of the box and changing the way hair is seen but also taught

Chukwuenyem Blessing: I'M SOOOO LOVING THESE SERIES!!

Keke Unlimited: I think it's great that you're doing this!! And your price is reasonable, I'll be copping one soon.

Nica W: I’m not a hair stylist but I just ordered this 1) because I love the Glam Fam! 2) because this is an awesome product for us “home stylist “ to practice with.

Forever Song: This is why I love your channel. They are working those two strand twists. Makes me so happy ♥️♥️♥️

Dinah Ewing: Wow!!! This is awesome ❤️❤️☺️!! I'm happy about this and the ones who will know how to care for that type hair. I don't trust anyone in my head lol

Carla M. Crawford: Glad to see tighter coils get some shine. It is important that hairstylist know how to style all hair types confidently, and with the understanding that hair is hair from the kinky to the bone straight. It all deserves the same nurture and care. Your students should be grateful for your leadership as you prepare them for the beauty industry, and all of its dimensions!

yasmine edwards: I am a Cosmetology teacher .My students are natural when it comes on to the natural hairstyles. However this would be good to have some of these for them to be more creative.

RH: Bravo! So many cosmetology schools are not teaching this. Your students will be well knowledgeable and educated!!

EM: Yaaaaas. That is great! Thank you for your persistence.

Marilyn Thompson: That is amazing!!!!!. I must admit that I DID NOT KNOW THAT THERE ARE NO OR VERY LIMITED TEXTURED Hair mannequins for cosmetology schools wow. What a total in justice!

Lit Bien: Great Teaching on dealing with natural hair types, they didn't teach it to me like that

T Will: Bravo fam, well done

Miss MB: Linwood thank you for caring enough. Man. This is the BIZNESS! ♥️

Lay shorts🌸🌸: Man I love doing hair it’s Inspiring to watch you do it

Staellie: You are an inspirational teacher. Thank you!! From one teacher to the other.Except I teach how to write a thesis statement and use textual evidence. Make complex inferences. Yeah. ???

Anita De La Cruz: Thank you for doing this!

Damonia Pegues: I wish my school did this!!

Conscious Daughter "CD": I absolutely love it!!♥️♥️♥️

Fabiola Patrice: I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS!!! THANK YOU!!!

Khulania Frost: What an awesome instructor

non disclosure 2.0: love this!!! i love this!!!! kudos my brother this is great!

Tappi Perez: Love it!!!

Willeneful: Glad they are being taught by you..

Regina Gray: I just bought my mannequin! Not because I have any interest in becoming a licensed cosmetologist, but to support amd maybe learn how to do some other styles on another head.

Folakemi Oluduro: Aww, this is so good, would like to learn from youu

Andromeda Capricorn: Linwood, Linwood This is amazing, innovative, progressive, awesome to see.

Tracy Gibson: Amazing. God bless you!!

Marilyn: Wonderful!

Just Me: Music in the background is a little to loud. Makes it difficult to hear you speak. But thanks for showing the natural hair mannequins.

Paula: Fantastic really those are the first natural mannequins I've seen

loftin01: I have to . This is amazing.

Jamaica Fox: I'm loving these videos

Serenityblu23: I brought a natural hair mannequin off of Amazon so that I can practice natural hair for me to wear. The black hair salon I go to wanted me to chemically straightened it so that my hair would be more manageable. She doesn't like natural hair. I asked around campus but no one knows a stylist in my city or they say they do their own hair. I don't have 180 to 200 bucks to spend on my natural hair every two months.

Tiffa Kang: We appreciate you!

restless journey: Good because I am damn tired of not seeing diversity!!!

Teeville1: I’m seeing stylist pop up that are really against twists and hair oils. I was wondering if you had and opinion? They are promoting hydration with water.

krysalious: I think about going to a salon from time to time. Especially since I hit a wall with my hair. And I would like to trust a Stylist but I really can't bring myself to do because, I kid you not. I feel like I've been screwed every time. My hair flourish the most with me. And now I feel like my hair isn't responding to a lot of things. Out of a lit of trial and error I found a shampoo and conditioner that works. But now im having trouble finding leave ins and styling products. I'd really like to go to a salon to get a chance to speak to them and get suggestions. But every time it's just hair burning or if it's devacurl they just shape I don't think the really trim. I honestly don't care about if the shape of my hair is perfectly spherical. I want it trimmed. I still haven't found a natural hair salon other than diva curl. But I hope I can one day. And I'd be honored if i find out they're one of your students. But hopefully I can find one much sooner lol

sunshine texas: GOD Bless You Lynwood ❤⚘

Rebelle Nomad: Great job!

indria drayton: This is so cool!

D Harmon: I'll be ordering mine next week

Dakota Hearst: I honestly want to CRYYY Thank you <333

Daniel Lorenzo: I just put an order in!

SHE McG: ✨ “Super Teach!” ✨

Ron Dothard: This is what the industry does. They just use low quality dry hair for the black dolls. I bought one recently and ended up putting a relaxer on it and cutting it neck length. Thats how bad her hair was. Her dad side of the family was to blame for that...Oh and a color too. She owes me about 200.00...any how that was not the plan and I still have no doll with natural black hair. I want to get one of yours. If you press it out will it go back when I wash it like real hair or good quality weaving hair?

mygirlcheech85: Man I would love one of them!!!!! They didnt teach ANYTHING ABOUT DIF NUMBER HAIR. AND THERES ALOT OF AA'S IN MY TOWN. I THINK IT WAS BULLSHIT THAT IT WASNT TOUGHT to us.

iAmaze87: You are Revolutionary!!!!

Dr. Hen #TIsipper: I need a video on how to 2 strand twist on natural hair

Sumayah Wardah: I wish I had someone to help me figure out how to carry for my hair :/ I have 3c hair

Mighty Mari: Lmbo I just realized everyone’s hair is Natural lol unless your processed so I guess it’s the texture that should be named …

Kr Gr: Who disliked this?

kro 001: Great work

MsLadyL: Wow! Great price too!
