Hair Tutorial: Styling A Longer Pixie Without Spikes!

After my last "spiky" hair tutorial, I had a request for a tutorial with no spikes at all. I wasn't sure I could pull it off or that I would like the end result but I actually loved how this style turned out! Hope you do too!

Hi everyone welcome back to my channel after my last hair tutorial, where I did a very spiky look. I had a request to do a tutorial with no spikes at all, and I said this is going to be a challenge, but let's see if I can do it so starting off with towel-dried hair, I'm then going to just comb it through and, as you can See my hair is just crazy, it's not a real heavy. I don't have real heavy hair, so it doesn't just lay down. Naturally, I also have lots of just weird little waves and curls. So sometimes it's harder to wear it straight than spiky, but we're gon na try. So I mean I first go in with the well irate shoot. You can also use the catwalk root boost, just use a little less of that. So I'm going to use this in the palm of my hand, and I'm just gon na use a little bit right here at the crown, even though I'm not spiking it. I still want some fullness there and then I'm also going to add a little bit here through the front, because again I want fullness and then I'll put what's left through the back here and this also, in addition to giving a little extra body, it also just Kind of helps as you're blow-drying, to give it a little extra hold alright and then I'm gon na go in with my a cure: argan oil and just one pump. I think of that, and I'm going to apply most of this here and then all through the hair and as you can see, I'm flattening down the hair trying to get it trained to go the direction it needs to go today and I haven't decided if I'm Going to wear it on the side that it is cut to go or the opposite side. So sometimes I wait until I blow dried it to decide that so let's go ahead and get started blow dry, my hair, so I think I'm gon na go the direction that it's cut to go, but I just want to show you what we've ended up with. I did a pretty good job of keeping this back part a little bit flat, but you saw as I was using, that airflow concentrator and just really shooting it here at the roots and then combing that hair down it gave me a lot of lift. I did the same thing here, so I've already got quite a lot of body working here. So that's a good thing. Now, I'm just gon na take my flat iron and again I'm using the one from general. I'Ve really been enjoying this and I'm going to now. Just flatten this sides a little bit so I've got to be careful that I don't add curl but kind of more just. I want a little more of kind of a PC texture right here now. My hair is, I am just days away from my next haircut. So this is kind of at my longer point of my in my hair month between cuts. So that's just gon na give you an idea that you can still do this. Look even if your hair is a little longer and actually it'll probably make it easier for the top part. Here. That'S gon na lay down a little easier, alright, so in here with the ear, I'm probably going to end up tucking this anyway, but I am going to just kind of flatten that out. This is laying pretty well here this side again just going to flatten and as I'm flattening, I'm kind of pulling towards the face, and with this top part usually, I need to do a little straightening right here, because I have a little curl. But at the moment it doesn't look too bad, we'll do just a tiny little touch through there and I think of it. Okay, so now I'm going to go in with, of course, the enjoy dry wax and when I wear my hair flat, you know I don't use as much as I do when I wear it spiky, but I still love this product even for kind of flatter, straighter, Hair, so I don't know if you can tell how much I've got right there on my hands and our weather has been form lately. So this wax is nice and warm easy to work with right now. So my habit is, of course, normally to go like this. Instead, I'm gon na go side to side through the back like this and then take a little more product on the tips of my fingers and I'm really going to scrub it here in the front and I'm kind of going for a little more of a toss'old. Look, I think, we'll see so again just scrubbing that into the roots, and I'm going to be careful not to spike this. You could easily spike the top, but I'm going to try, try very hard, keep it all flat here and then I'm going to just kind of, and you can see how deep of a part I have at the moment. So we're going to use that here give us a real, swept look here in the front and I'm just kind of pulling the hairs down right here. But by pulling that wax through the back, you can see it just gave extra texture back there and makes it look a little fuller, like you have more hair back there. So if you have thin fine hair, that's a little trick to make it look a little fuller and I'm just going to pull out this. Is that section on my head? That is very flat. It'S like this! So I'm just gon na kind of pull that section out all right and then here on the sides, I'm going to work this a little bit behind the ears. I think, okay, I think what I'm gon na do. This time is actually tuck this entire piece here and just something's different. You know mm-hmm and then again just kind of making sure I've got a good start to the look of texture here and then on this side. I think I'm going to keep this down and we're going to kind of keep this kind of going down at an angle like this and now I'm going to just add some hairspray. So of course using the Aussie instant freeze, hairspray. I am going to protect my eyes and my face, of course, and as I spray any areas that I see that have a tendency didn't want to spring back up, I'm just gon na kind of gently put them in their place here and then through the back. All I'm doing is kind of taking my hand and doing this to just kind of keep that little look of some texture back there. I know some of you haven't shaved back here and that's fine. That makes this part easier, but I just kind of like the look of a little extra texture, okay and then over here. I kind of did the same thing through the back and now here I'm just going to give a good couple sprays and then peace. This side right here into place and let's see I have part of that tucked behind my ear and the other part - is just framing my face right there and then I'll just take a couple, little extra sprays right here at the top and the front okay. So here is our final look. What I always find is a challenge for myself when I don't put any spike enos in my cut, I'm always trying to figure out how to still give it that little bit of an edge, and I think by doing that really deep part here and the swept Bangs with a lot of texture kind of piecing it here around the face, I think I achieved my goal, so I hope that those of you who requested this enjoyed this tutorial. If you have a similar cut to mind whether it's spiky or more like this, hopefully it gave you some inspiration of maybe some new tricks to try with your haircut. Thank you guys, as always so much for watching. If you like this video, please give it a thumbs up subscribe to my channel and I'll see you next time. Bye,

Pam J: That is an awesome look!! So simple, yet looks to classy!❤ Thanks for this video!!

Nicol Blakely: I got my pixie one week ago. I have had long hair all of my life. I'll be 50 next month. I just want to say thanks for the inspiration. Also, you've got a wonderful personality!

Suzy: This was the EXACT tutorial I needed!

Jeanette Skelton: You make it look so easy!!! Beautiful!

Karen Quimby: Love the way you style your hair! Just what I want, and the color!!

Barb Firestone: I totally love your hair like this!!! I have had my hair cut like this and get alot of complements!!! Thank you!!!

Linda Lepage: Love this cut. I finally got mine cut almost same style. Using the dry wax and enjoying playing with my style! Thanks so much for sharing!

tylynn ritchie: LOVE IT!!! You look gorgeous in both hair styles~ nice to have the option to mix up your look and still look so cute! I have actually taken a screenshot of your hairstyle into my stylist as an example of what I wanted... she came close enough and I love it! Wish my Enjoy wax was as soft as yours~ Thank you for your videos, they are inspirational.

Debbie Bifolck: I love that style on you! This used to be my hairstyle before I grew it out. Love it!

Cindy Brown: So beautiful! Like you, Sharalee, I tend to want to spike mine, but am leaning more to this softer modified look. This looks softer on you, yet romantic, and youthful....! Loved this, once again I got some good pointers, pulling that left side completely behind your ear, so flattering! Xoxo❤️❤️❤️

Joanne Tedesco: You make it look so easy. Love the cut and you look great

Snels: I LOVE it!!! ❤❤ You did an amazing job and it looks great on you!! Thanks so much for doing it; I got some great tips! ☺

Virginia Cheuvront: Looks fantastic! Even better than the spiky look. It's perfect like this!!

Naomi Lieurance: Wonderful to watch you work with your hair just like anyone would. Very difficult, as you know, to have your hair done in the salon and then repeat it at home. Thanks so much

Lois Snow: Awesome tutorial! I have mine cut similarly but with the back kind of faded up. My biggest problem is my hair is thin and very fine. I liked how you styled your hair and I took some of those tips for myself.

Joan Biordi: I love your haircut! If I cut my hair short, I am going to show your video to my stylist so she can see exactly what I want. Thank you for showing the styling variations for this really cute cut!!

Marie-in-DK: I got a pixie a lot like yours three weeks ago and I'm loving it! Watching your video I am realizing that the hair at my low side part needs to be cut shorter in order to obtain that side swept look. I also have a glat skull on the back of my head and this type of hair cut actually conceals that rather than drawing attention to it

Mary Rineer: I just got this haircut. I did show my hairdresser your video. It takes practice but your video is very helpful. You keep it pretty simple and are very thorough. Thank you.

Dr. Jo Anna Watson: Thanks for this tutorial. This is the first time watching. I am 67 with grey thinning hair I have always worn short spiky hair but now it’s thinning too much and my hair straight with some cowlicks. This tutorial has given me some great ideas to work with my hair. I love your color am going to add very light highlights. Looking forward to watching more.

Cindy Distenfeld: You look amazing!! Thank you for sharing this style!

Mary Thomas: I am trying a new hair stylist next week, and you can be sure that I will be taking this tutorial with me. I LOVE both the style AND the color.

Michelle Hamilton: As always you look fabulous but this hairstyle is by far my fave ❤

josie anthony: So lovely! Thanks for sharing your tips to help us look our best. Even though my hair is no longer as thick as it used to be, using the products you've recommended gives the look of more fuller hair. Beautiful lady, Sharalee!

Paula Stenquist: Another beautiful look Sharalee I love them both spiky and no spikes. Love the make-up also!!! Thanks for sharing!!! :)

Jes Sacco: Thank you, I have a similar cut and loved this tutorial

Cish 60: I've had my hair cut like yours, but I never had it look as nice as yours looks! You're beautiful and your hair is great!!!

Sylvia Trevino: Girl u outdid yourself! Gorgeous! I want my hair like yours!! I'd keep it like that for a few!!

Jackie Marsh: Love this hairstyle the best! Looks beautiful!

Marilyn Colvin: You did a awesome job. It looks great.

Ranalynn’s Lifestyle in Hawaii: Good evening gorgeous. I’m so glad you got this request from a subscriber. I’m glad your weather is warming up there. This look is really motivating me to wanna brow out my hair. I appreciate your attention to detail you are in your videos. Thank you . Have a beautiful day. Aloha

catmama54: Every style you do is so gorgeous and you truly have a talent for doing hair. You should be a hair model in magazines.

Alan S. Wendelschafer: This is the first video of yours I have seen. I really enjoyed the editing. Showing us the drying process and giving additional context to what you are doing. Hopefully I will get to use some of your styling tips at the shop soon.

Heather Lane: LOVE your hair! Awesome tutorial!

Tinytitan: I just got the root boost, now I need the wax. I really like the spikes. I’m going to show my stylist your last hair video so I can get spikes! You look great either way.

Debbie Escamilla: This style looks great on you! You look even younger than usual!! I like the length!

Robin Bourgault: I Love Love Love watching you style your hair! I wish I had the patience to do that! Were you ever a stylist? Thanks for the ideas and inspiration!

Cathy Purser: Thank you! I had been searching for a new hair cut and happened to end up on your Channel! Took still shots of your style from every angle, brought them to my hair stylist and now I have a beautiful new look! (Not the one in my pic). Thank you so much for the tutorial! I’m a brand new subscriber now! Great site!

Mary Anne King: Beautiful hairdo, beautiful lady! Love all your make-up tips as well!

Heidi Ann: Hi Sharalee!!! This style looks great and I love your color. I'm still loving the Enjoy dry Wax too. Great product!!!! I hope all is well and have a great week. xo

Lynn F: You've officially given me courage to go short. Thank you!

Jun Pinili: i like the texturized cut, easy to fix! you’re good in styling your own hair nice

Yami Chin: It looks great I am thinking to get a pixie and this look is gorgeous

Maya Nandalall: Better than a professional i usually carry the same and I'll be doing your way. Thanks... you're beautiful

Lyn M: I am so thrilled to have found someone who knows how to style short hair. You are amazing! Your hair is exactly like mine with the texture and being stubborn when styling. You've made it look so simple and beautiful. You've given me hope as to how to style my own hair. I get haircuts every 4 weeks and coloring. I am 68 and have always liked to be in style, yet not try to look 20. Spiked hair was my favorite but now love this style you've done here and always tried to get it like yours. It looks so good on you!! I will refer back to this tutorial often. Going to get all the products and work on my hair!! Bless you! Another issue is my stylist cannot get my hair the light blonde/platinum like you have. Reading some of your reply comments helped so I can share with her to use a stronger bleach treatment. It always comes out orangish in spots. I want it like yours because I do have a lot of gray now and this would help to transition to possible all gray one day soon. Thank you for all your tips and help!

Alecia King: I love your haircut! I fell in love with your hair cut as soon as I saw it on Pinterest.

Lucie Taylor: Yes! I love this style on you. I prefer this to the spikes. Your makeup is gorgeous as always

susan barr: I LOVE LOVE LOVE your hair and thanx for showing how you style it with and without spikes!!!! You've got a new Subbie here. I just got a pixie cut and I love it!!! It's so much easier to wash and style shorter hair!!! Keep on showing these great videos cause I really enjoy watching them!!! ☺

Inna Mirzayants: OMG! I LOVE it! Color, style, everything ❤️❤️❤️

Tammy Demis: Love love love your hair cut! I just found you...obsessed with your hair! My hair is so thin & fine...in my wildest dreams would it look like this!

Laurie Huber: Looks great...as usual. Took photo of you and the spike style to my last appointment and my stylist did a great job. Waiting on highlights now. My hair is very dark brown and I’d like the highlight to brighten it a bit. Now if I can just get cowlick under control . It definitely takes a technique to get it looking right. Thanks so much for sharing!

Sam: Sharalee. I just found your channel and am enjoying it so much. I m 62 and have extremely thick, wavy/curly hair and cutting short again after keeping long hair. I love it! Thank you

P_ NK: Ok that is a perfect cut. I have similar, a ‘textured pixie with a sideswept bang’ and always looking for tips. I just trimmed it myself today, did a decent job, and I use Layrite clay as well as Aussie Instant Freeze. Also use Garnier Mega Full right after the shower. Haven’t tried the iron, I seem to not need anything else but I could try it, often I don’t need to blow dry either, just air dry while doing my makeup! Thanks for the video!

Mary Ray: Very nice hair cut Looks great on you !!

Carolyn Spotts: Love this style!

nina wade: I love your hair cut! Getting mine cut that way! Thank You

paisleygirl: Sharalee, thank you for the excellent demonstration. The main thing I have a problem with is the blow dry and you show a perfect display of how to hold your hands and what direction to blow.

María Tagle: I love it!

Rara Avis: I really love the way, your hair is highlighted. I hope, I can get a similar result, once my hair is a little bit longer again. I‘ve been puzzling for a while, about what to do with it. I cut it super short, to get rid of the dyed black, which was starting to look a little harsh on me, now that I get older...but I can’t leave it natural, because of all the white hairs, that have crept in, over the last couple years. This might just be the perfect solution

Sandra Almeida Fideles: lindo! Maravilhoso!!!

Peri Kiros: You inspired me-so I went and got my hair cut right after I saw your video! Thank you

Karen Anderson: I just found your channel and you are so cute and love love love that haircut. I used to be really short and then grew it out for a few years now I am ready to go short again and really love how you style. Thanks for all the great tips and I will be watching your channel regularly

Sharoyn Livingston: Gorgeous hair, color and style!

bluedragonfly mems: When you have short hair it's nice to have different ways to style it! The cut makes the most difference!

Bernadette Hooper: Inspiring. Thanks for the tutorial.

Jules Fabre: Great hair tutorial, you're a legit Pixie style ambassador! Have you ever considered getting a shorter, side-buzzed pixie, like Pink, Miley Cyrus or Scarlett Johansson had at some point? It'd look great on you! Anyways, keep up with the good work, take care.

donna wanna: I would love to have a wig exactly like your hair, in this video. It's beautiful

Mary Miller: Beautiful hair cut. Thanks for the tips. I bring picture in to my hair stylish and i can never get the right cut. I love the pixie cut.

Debby Gollobit: This turned out very nice. I have leukemia and have went through chemo a few times. Had my SCT and my hair came back black with a really nice shiny gray to it. I've been letting it grow out but, basically have about the same hairstyle as you. Each haircut over the past year, I've had them cut it to train my bangs to go long to one side. They reach my non existing brows now. lol I love the color/highlights in your hair and this is basically the style I'm going for. I just need to get in now to cut/style and color/highlight. Thanks for your video. I enjoyed watching it.

Brenda Barbee: Love both looks!

Rhonda Jackson: THANK YOU! Well over 50, overweight and have a low forehead. This is EXACTLY the video I needed to explain what I want.

Cherokee: Love this hairstyle on you.....Don't know how you usually wear your hair but it is soft and still flattering modern. Sort of tired of seeing everyone with spiked hair. Wish I had yours.

Linda Davis: You look beautiful in both hairstyles, but I love this style on you sooooo much more than the spiky style AND this style is so much younger looking on you too.

Lisa Myers Greene: Love your hair it is so beautiful!!

Linzy: Love your hair. Thanks for the advice.

NaturallyRosy: These videos about your hair have been so helpful! I recently had my haircut and I asked for more of a shag, but I ended up with a pixie very similar to yours and I was having so much trouble styling it. It's good to know I have options on how to style it and now I'm really liking my haircut, so thank you! (My picture next to my comment is from a few years ago).

RebeccaStyl3s: Love this style! Wish my meno sweats would stop so that I could have something like this xx

Sharon Prouse: Love this style

Michelle Timmons: You are freakin gorgeous.. I’ve been growing my pixie cut out. But now I don’t know after seeing this I just cut it short again. I’m in the mini mullet stage of hair

R D: Absolutely the best and most beautiful Pixie cut and color. You wear it sooooo classy. GORGEOUS!!!!!!!

Ontrend50 Sandy Alderson: All your styles are perfection, my beautiful friend!

Rhonda Tomlinson: Saw your picture on Pinterest took it with me to get my little longer than shoulder length hair cut, didn't quite get the look I was going for but super close. Thanks so much for the tutorial (s) on styling HuGe help !!!

Bonnie Hoff: I thought you had a new haircut! that is an absolutely gorgeous look on you

Blondie: I am desperate for a new style. Love this look. I am 61 and really need a makeover. My hair is long and worn in a bun at the moment. Need something modern and trendy to give myself a lift. You look lovely

Annie McKenzie: Love, Love, your hair cut and the way you can work your hair. Beautiful! My hair dresser wants to have my hair grow out similar to yours with the long front swept over, but it always bothers me getting in my eyes when it is long like that. Any ideas?

KonaSitkaRose: How cute! I love the cut and the way you styled it!!!

Trish: A mini flat iron works wonderful for the hair near the ears and temples. I have both types of flat irons.

Michelle Reyes: I have a tad shorter hair but I think I can pull this look. I love the outcome.

Tealish Pixel: What an amazing haircut!!

Mandy Raven: Love the hair. I would really like to see you do a 'no make-up' make-up look to go with the more relaxed casual vibe of hairstyle. Are you up for the challenge?

Wanda Miller: Love it

Valerie Gill: Love this hair style

luckystamper: New subscriber here and fellow pixie hair and jewelry maker, but much older. I have spent my evening binge watching your awesome videos and now inspired to grow my bangs out, spike up my pixie and pull out my Urban Decay palettes. Oh and work on my sparse little brows. Have great evening.

Artist Formerly Known As Just Ray Carson: Hair looks great

Michele Garbowski: Beautiful as always! I just referred a friend of mine to your channel today!

Jude Christenson: Perfect hair! You look great!

Raquel Gomez: You're so pretty. I love the way your hair came out ❤. I'm a new subscriber and look forward to watching more of your videos.
