Hey everybody welcome to my channel are welcome back I'm Jeremy Jarrett and today we've got a super requested video that I've been really excited to film. It'S actually taken me almost all day to film this video. So if you couldn't tell from the title, I'm gon na be showing you guys the do's and the don'ts of styling curly hair, I have been natural for pretty much I'd, say. Maybe four years now I absolutely love curls, I'm not an expert, but I will say I'm definitely a curl enthusiast today, I'm just gon na be giving you all my favorite tips that work best for my hair got type 3 hair 3a to 3b. So these tips will most likely work for type 3 hair, I'm not very experienced with type 2 or type 4 hair, not exactly sure. If these tips will work for you, if you've got that hair type, it definitely will work if you have a type 3 hair. I really wanted to film this video for all of you guys who struggle with the end product of your hair. You may be using the perfect products for your hair type, but you may not be applying them correctly, which really affects the overall look of your curls. I know how frustrating it is to spend lots of money on products and lots of time on your hair and then for it to end up looking pooi. So I hope these tips today really help you out they're, definitely going to make your curls flourish and feel amazing. I hope these tips work for you as well as they do work for me. So let me know if they do in the comment section below, and I really really hope you enjoyed this video stay tuned for some amazing results and some pretty funny don'ts as well. I actually had heart failures filming some of these doubts, because they've just completely go against everything. I'Ve been doing for my hair for the last few years. I know a lot of you guys, chuckle with flat hair, and you also have issues with volume at the root --, so this video is specifically targeted towards keeping that volume in the roots, while still having definition in your curls. So let's hop straight into the video. Let'S start with the first major: don't stop throwing away your shampoo, you really need to be cleansing, your hair and your scalp at least once a week I suggest using a shampoo and conditioner. These are from function of beauty. I'Ve got a 20 % off link in the description box. Then I like to use a sea salt scrub from Christophe Robin as well. This really cleanses my scalp. It gets rid of itchy nose, dryness and any dandruff. If he skip cleanser, your head is going to be so oily and therefore your clothes will have no volume. Okay, your next major, don't is wearing a towel after you wash your hair for ages. If you leave your hair in a towel, it's gon na get frizzy and dry like sis. What are you doing? You can use a t-shirt, but I highly suggest ditching cotton towels, so you should never be styling. Your hair on dry, kills and, and also a massive, don't, is brushing out dry curls. This is gon na create so much for is it's so unnecessary? Oh now, this is giving me anxiety now. What you want to do instead is wear your hair in a bun. After the shower, so then you can do your makeup or whatever else then, once you take it out, your hair is still gon na, have a retained, moisture, and this is gon na make a styling process a lot easier. Now you can brush your hair because it's still damp, this isn't gon na create any frizz, and it's actually beneficial, because it's gon na get the knots out making a plying product a lot smoother. The brush will do, but we all know I love the Denman. Moving on to your next major, don't soaking your hair when you over saturate your hair with water product, is going to sit on top of your hair and it's going to take years to dry. Instead, you want to add a little bit more water to your hair. To make sure it is damp, but you don't want to see beads of water dripping off your hair. Also, you want to listen out for this particular sound yep. You hear that okay also don't forget to wet the back of your crown. People forget this and then they wonder why they have no volume. So two major don'ts is styling on soaking, wet, hair and very dry hair. As I stated before, now we're going to apply product the wrong way, stop using thick heavy creams and applying them at the root of your hair. Some people think the more products you applied, the less frizzy hair will be, but this is going to make your hair. So oily you're going to have absolutely no volume on the roots and also it's going to take forever to dry. This is the biggest nono ever out. On the other hand, when you apply product to dry hair, it doesn't matter how much you apply. Your hair still gon na stay fuzzy because your hair is dry and the cuticles aren't able to soak in the product. Look how oily my hair looks and then look how dry it looks. So I use mousse for hold, but this is the wrong way to use. Mousse stop using a bucketload, because this is just gon na make your even oily. Are you can see my face the distress as I'm applying this also, you do not want to pull the mousse throughout your hair and drag out your curls. This is gon na completely ruin your curl pattern. Okay, now, for the do, I'm gon na use the same products from Pond a breeze, because I really like it, but I'm gon na start small, not using too much and I'm going to apply it from the mid lengths of my hair down this way. My scalp isn't getting it saturated with products making it oily and that causes no volume. This is just a better way of applying the products and make sure you really get those ends, so you are really helping any split ends and any dryness. But before I must say it again, stop neglecting the crown of your head, I like to make sure I'm really applying enough product throughout that area to make sure it gets volume and the love it needs. This is a major don't when it comes to using the Denman brush, stop pulling it against your scalp and dragging your curls downwards. This is not going to create a good curl pattern and it's also going to stop any volume from forming on the roots of your head. Now I used to do this when I was a bit younger and I was just starting out with the Denman brush, but ever since I've learnt a new technique that allows me to have more volume. I'Ll show you that soon now look how oversaturated my hair is. This isn't not what you want guys, then, on the other side, it is so dry that when I brush through the Denman brush, all my curls completely disappear. Instead, you do want to use the Denman brush, but you want to use it before you apply it. The mousse make sure you are separating your hair to make it easier and with the bottom half you need to pull the Denman brush and your hair away from your head. This is going to create a lot more volume at the roots, as it gets your curls off your scalp. Moving on to the top layer of your hair, you want to pull this up and away from your head. This is also going to create volume. As I said before and get those curls off the scalp and it's a really really great way to define your curls and keep them looking super bouncy, don't forget about the crown you want to go in with your mousse. This is the perfect time to write after you use your Denman brush. I love the john frieda mousse. I use it all the time and I'd like to start by scrunching it into my curls. This is going to emphasize my curl pattern and make them super bouncy, and it's going to evenly distribute the product and by not dragging this through my hair, it's actually going to aid in a volume as well look and shiny. This is what we want now. The next thing you really don't want to be doing is going in with a diffuser on a high heat and a high wind speed and directly starting to cup and touch and play with your hair. This is the ultimate way to create buzz and it's going to ruin the natural texture and curl pattern that you have another big don't with the diffuser is like holding it against your head for a long period of time, whilst cupping your curls. This is going to create heat damage and also unevenly dried curls. Instead, what you want to do is wait about 10 minutes after styling, your hair to diffuse, stay hydrated and then, with your diffuser after 10. Minutes put it on low wind speed and low heat and start by dragging the diffuser around your head. Don'T directly touch your curls but focus on the roots, because these take a lot longer to dry. Then your ends and if you've lost too much air on your ends, they are going to get dry and fuzzy. So this is the best way. I'Ve got a full video on diffusing. If you want something a little bit more in-depth I'll link it below now. Do not do this when your hair starts to get more dry, do not stretch out your curls and diffuse them like this. Just I don't even know what I'm doing here. Don'T do it also do not pull apart your hair and like ruined it with your fingers. Whilst you are defusing, I used to do this and it would just create so much fuzz now, when your hair starts to get a little bit more dry. What you do want to do is lightly shake the diffuser around. This is just going to separate the curls a little bit now. Moving back to some absolute don'ts do not shake out slightly damp hair. This is going to completely ruin any curl pattern. You have also. It'S gon na create so much fuzz and you're gon na have no definition at all yuck. That was the dry side now. This is the very oily wet side. I could hardly even shake this out because my scalp was literally so oily. That means I could get no volume at all and my hair just looks wet, even though it wasn't now what you want to do when your hair dries is slightly separate, any curls that have clumped together. I'Ve got a lot of big clumpy curls, as you can see, they're so fun to play with, but I like to separate them very carefully to make sure I'm not getting any fuzz. But this way is just going to make your hair look a lot fuller and more voluminous next to get volume. What you do want to do is lightly shake out your hair by putting your hands underneath the tops of your head on your scalp and giving them a very light shake. This will separate your curls. This will get your curls off your scalp, and it's gon na create nice amount of volume without ruining the definition used, a good-enough mousse. You definitely have a little bit of leeway to play with your curls and shape them into the way you want. So these are my last don'ts: do not play with and put your hair up in tight, buns and ponytails on the first day. This is gon na ruin, your curl pattern and also never ever brush out dry curls. Well, in this case, they're just so saturated with products, but you're gon na completely ruin any curl pattern and your hair's gon na be so fuzzy, so never take a brush to dry here. This is the finished result, I'm so so happy with how it looks because a bouncy separated, voluminous and also super well-defined. So this is what you do want to do to achieve these results, and we're done. I hope you guys enjoyed today's video. I definitely put a lot of effort in to show you the don'ts and the do's for curly hair. Now I know the don'ts are slightly exaggerated, but I know a lot of people who do and have in the past actually applied products this way or styled. The hair these ways - and these do pretty much result in flat oily yucky curls. Okay, guys, I hope you enjoyed this video comment like subscribe, do all of that and also check out my Instagram. I'M super active on there pretty much every day to stay in touch with you guys and I do a little bit more creative content on Instagram in terms of fashion and makeup and beauty and hair, of course, so go check it out. If you don't already follow me, stay tuned for more videos, I have them every single we also don't forget. I do have that 20 % off link for function of beauty. If you are wanting to try that they're pretty good products, bye, guys

secession77: DO: have naturally curly hair DON'T: think you can achieve this with your damn straight hair by just following these steps

yunhotaco: your dont hair looks like my hair when i think it’s “curly and thriving”

WONYIZ: your “donts” is how my hair looks right now....or somewhat. I want the do’s so i’ll be trying them tomorrow on my wash day! Edit : about a year later and oh my god. It is so much prettier. Really experiment with what you like and don’t like within this routine. I personally do not part my hair and that volumizes my hair a TON.

Délie I Believe I Can Fly: When you see that even when she does everything wrong, her hair still looks beautiful

Star Hill: Your don’ts are literally how my hair looked every day of middle school.

Μαρία Αναστασάκη: My curls are destroyed and i tried this...from the first time i saw results and i almost cried from my happiness...i used to hate my curly hair because i was different from the others because of it but now i really appreciate the gift that life gave me

Chawan & Hemin Vlogs: Beautiful!

Karen Quin: The don’ts are literally what I do with my daughters hair and I feel so bad now! I was thinking I had the wrong products but it’s me just ruining her hair

꧁Trashuqueen꧂: I’m 16 and literally no one ever taught me how to properly take care of my curls until right now I do every single “Don’t” thinking this was how to do my hair, yet I always wondered why it couldn’t get volume Hell, I didn’t knew what was a diffuser until now thinking it was like a bigger blow dryer, thank you so much for making this!! I’ll try to take these tips now❤️❤️❤️

kmdn1: Neither of my parents have curly hair so they had NO IDEA how to care for curly hair and make it look nice! They used to believe it was fuzzy, frizzy and messy looking because I *didn't* want brush it and they would make me brush it! It turned me into a tramautized fuzzball and I grew up hating my curly hair because it just looked horrible my entire childhood, especially when they would make sure I "brushed out the tangles.."

Alexis walker: I can not believe that at my grown ass age of 22 I'm doing every single one of the don'ts... lol I'm excited to try this method tomorrow!

vlera gashi: this is probably one of the most simple, straight to the point vids on styling curly hair. THANK YOU!!!

Ralitsa Urukova: I think we all curly lasses here at least know not to brush dry hair. That's the BIGGEST DON'T

Stacie Johnson: This video was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!! So informative. I loved how detailed you were and how you actually took the time to do it the wrong way so we could see the difference. Thanks soooo much!!

armadillo pillow: It's crazy how much I didn't know about taking care of my hair type. I was the only one in the family with curls when I growing up, so I was taught to take care of my hair the same way someone with straight or slightly wavy hair would. I just thought that the problem was my hair type, that the reason why my hair always looked so horrific was just because that's how my hair is. After watching your videos and other youtubers with similar curls, I know now that my hair isn't "unmanageable" or "difficult", it just takes different techniques to deal with it. It's definitely been a self-esteem boost to find out that my hair isn't "bad hair", like I thought my entire life! ♥️

Sara Abusaleh: yo guys, i actually followed her tips and videos after 2 years of straightening my hair EVERY single day.. and let me tell you how GOOD my hair looks, i am obsessed with it! and i never thought my hair would actually look that fabulous <3

Emma Perkins: I’m really excited to try the “Do’s” from this video. I have been really unhappy with my curl routine and after watching this I realize why lol. Thank you for this!

LiveMoreWithLess: What an amazing curl care lesson. Thank you so much! I loved it! Going to change a few of my habits and also going to share these tips with my curly sistas and grandma

Selena Tofa Tugaga: You are literally my favorite curl enthusiast, thank you for what you do for us curly girls xo

Mary Jane xo: I've been transitioning from my Chemically straightened hair and it's been a challenge and still a lot of learn and discover about my 3c type curls. But the habits/ routines that I've changed helped a lot! One was getting silk pillows. And the biggest difference made for my curls is Microfiber Hair Towel. Helped my frizz a lot and also drying my hair normally takes forever but its cut to half! And the curls are a lot more defined, I've got mine from Amazon a brand called Maria Beau https://www.amazon.com/mariabeau . It's great quality!

Simply Ghosted: Your “don’t” is literally what my hair looks like everyday. I’m trying

Gloria Elahi: Im 33 and I've been doing it wrong for years. I do almost everything you listed on your Dont's list. Thank you for this!

Jasmine Samaroo: I watched this after I’ve been doing all the don’ts for years… can’t believe this is why I thought I hated my natural hair! You’re a life saver! Can’t wait to try all your tips

Yolanda Johnson: Honey, when God was giving out BEAUTY you were definitely the first in line!!

Hannah Pritchard: Can confirm this works well on 2c hair! Love the vid x

Stephanie Nolan: This is insanely helpful, I can't wait to try these.. my hair is so fine so even though it naturally dries really curly (my pfp my hair was still damp) the curl longevity sucks.

Katz mfCat: being the only woman in my family with curly hair has been, to put it lightly, a struggle. watching the DONT'S feels like a personal attack. I needed this

Elizabeth Gonzalez: Absolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for the tips. I have been so frustrated with my curls recently so I'm looking forward to giving this a try!

Victoria Alvarez: This is literally the most helpful dos and don’ts video I’ve ever seen. I don’t hurt my curls in those ways but SURELY this helped nonetheless

Cayla C.: I don’t have type 3 curls (I have type 2b I believe) but I think almost all of these do’s and don’ts apply to most curl types. Hopefully with these I can get my hair looking much better!

Barbara Boda: Thank you so much for this video, I realized only a few weeks ago that my hair is 3a-3b and it's been a long journey already to figure out the best way to style it! Your video's been so useful ☺️

G4m3rg1rl907: I shaved my head last year from decades of damage and start my hair fresh. After a year I have discovered that I have curly hair and I’m gonna use these tips because I have noticed my hair is getting even more curlier.

Karen Meister: I’ve been watching all of your videos and for the first time in 58 years I’m going to finally give in to my curls and try to start embracing them instead of straightening them every day! Thanks for all the great videos.

Kassidy N.: I tried this and it worked so well!! I wasn’t sure what products to use before the mousse and diffusing so it came out a little crunchy but lesson learned! I wish I could post my before and after pics on here!

Tarantula Gal: This must have taken FOREVER to film. Great job explaining everything. You're hair is beautiful!

LibbyMay: i needed this so much ive always struggled with having volume and defined curls at the back of my head and I always thought it was just my curl pattern hopefully when I start doing this now ill have hair like yours!!!!

sr625212: Thank you Jayme. I followed your advice and my curls look amazing. Beautiful shine, volume and definition.

Denice Engberg: You have the exact same hair type as my son, this was soooo helpful, his hair is either really fizzy or flat like a helmet around his scalp, he is letting his curls grow out again and I will definitely start following your advice

Catara Tortalita: This was probably the best video I’ve watched about type 3 curls and it works. Thank You! I was doing all the dont’s.

Big Dictator Energy: This was such a helpful video and you are stunningly gorgeous and magnetic! Thank you so much, angelface! I can't wait to try all of these techniques and get a good consistent curl! xoxoxoxoxo

Alysia Rico: Omg i'm so glad you posted this cause my hair was always flat and I followed your directions and now my hair is perfect, it looks so natural and beautiful!!!

Stacy Mercado: Thank you for this video! I have naturally curly hair! For years I have straightened it! I have recently started wearing it curly again! I get alot of compliments but I'm not really happy with how it looks! I will definitely use your tips!

Hanae Bouzerda: Your tips have helped me a lot! I'm growing out my curls back now (also 3B) for about a year now, but I'm still struggling with my short bangs in the front. Any tips on how to style them in a cute way? Thank you gorgeous, you're doing great!!!

Hekatarine: That moment when you realise you've been abusing your curls most of your life! Other than brushing dry curls, I'm guilty of most of those other Don'ts unfortunately. Thanks for the education. I look forward to having curls like yours...!

Cassandra Monique Wilson: 10/10 video. You can tell you thought very carefully with each technique and it so helpful to see the dos and don’ts simultaneously!!

No Frills Twins: You are so cute. Love love love this video! xx

MonicaAnneBooks: I just tried this technique (after watching her diffusing video) but with products I had lying around the house. It totally works! It’ll look even better once I get better products. I’m so grateful!

Milodi M: I can not tell you how much this video helped me. You’re so great at explaining AND giving visuals!!!

Joanie Greene: I totally love your videos. They are so full of knowledge and excellent techniques for curly hair. Happy New Year and we should never stop learning because it’s so healthy and stimulating. Be well ...Joanie from NJ

Christina Ross: Love the tips! I’ve been moving from your don’ts to the dos gradually, but I still have an issue with the hair at my nape getting REALLY tangled by the end of the day. I’ve tried everything I can think of with no success. Thoughts?

Leslie Goldman: Lol. Watching the don’ts was a little too close to home in that I find myself doing almost all those things. I’m just so impatient!! I promise to stop!

weee: I'm so glad I've seen this, I've seen certain things im doing are wrong and I'll absolutely be using this video for my hair. Thank you! :DD

Lisa Stone: Great video! I am just now starting to explore using a routine and one of the most frustrating parts is finding my hair type. I think my hair is a combo of 2C and 3A and when I looked at your styling tips and how your hair reacts, I am hopeful that they will work for me. Wish me luck, and oh, my gosh: you are gorgeous!

shannah dunne: I actually might cry... I’m 16 and for YEARS I’ve been doing every single don’t.. every single one. This is incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for this video!

Carina Castaldo: This is the first tutorial I've actually sat through in so long! Love the tips thank you!

Lex Workout: Am I the only one who doesn't care about volume? It's so hard to find a curly girl who doesn't care. All I want is defined curls with no frizz.

Jennifer: Your video is one of the most helpful videos I’ve ever seen. I’ve recently learned from my hairstylist that I was putting my products in the wrong order, but I felt like I needed a bit more help. I am going to try you tips. Thanks

Nicole Sullivan: Teenagers these days have it soooo easy. I WISH I would have had this tutorial in high school about my hair. I'm 42 and still figuring out how to style my 3b curls. I've never had a hair dresser than even knew HOW to cut or style my hair! Glad I'm learning now.

Julkilius: I love you so much!!! Your hair is so pretty and I have had type 3 hair for my whole life and I have never had my hair look big and defined and this helped me so much you have helped me get my dream hair thanks for everything☺️

OLAPLEX: Thanks for sharing your tips for healthy styling! We love it!

t a y l o r: You know she is committed to us if she goes against 4 years of hard work

Reign OF Is REAL: Literally doing all the DONT’S ‍♀️ Geeesh THANKS FOR THIS VIDEO!! I can’t wait to try.

Suzanne Benscoter: Thank you! Your don'ts just make so much sense when you explain why. I do them all on an almost daily basis. And wonder why I get can't great curls in my 3B hair! I also need to get a new brush.

Deanarys Dione: I would love to try these , but my mom always tells me the opposite of these dos and donts and she would yell at me saying that I'm damaging my curls. So it would be pretty hard for me to do these hacks because I know that they will restore my hair.

txteditaudios: Thank you so much! My hair is drying right now but I already feel and see so much of a difference-

Valeria Gutierrez: Your don’t part still looks better than my hair lol. I’m still transitioning haha

Jennifer Guevara: This is the perfect tutorial. Thank you so much!! :)

Ruby Tuesday: This is genuinely the best curly hair video I've seen, a couple essential products and good techniques rather than an expensive list of creams gels and mouses. Thank you so much for making this

Deja Gutierrez: OMG LIFE SAVER!! …my hair is so oily from using heavy creams and putting it at the roots AND I TIE MY HAIR THE SAME DAAY. Definitely gonna change my hair routine!

Siham Soleil: Love your curly hair videos very informative ❤️

Oh Curlee: Let me find out i’ve been doing all the don’ts thank you so much for this

II SmileyBun28 II: Some tips: for those who don’t know how much product to use, soak your hair in product, use ur denman brush (tilt ur head while brushing it helps with volume) then scrunch with a microfiber towel and lightly squish you hair to remove extra product

maryam zahir: Okay so i watched this video yeaterday, and today is my wash day and i used every single do(i wasnt doing everything wrong but i still followed along lol) and damn!! My hair is the best its ever looked in my entire life. This def works 100 percenttt

Inspiring Vanessa: Hey Jo, I love your curls ♥️ thank you for these tips ♥️

Susana Mendez: You have gorgeous hair.. thanks for the tutorial.. my daughter got curly hair and I have to admit I’ve been doing it wrong as I have straight hair and never dealt with curls before (she’s 5) her hair really growing now. Could you please tell me what products do you use like treatments and how do you maintain your hair between washes? Thanks for your help!

Sophia Julia: Omg, the tip with the diffuser strengthened my hair game I love volume, but compensating my curls for it. Now I got both

taylorandcarolina: Everybody has to do what works best for her/him. It's amazing how some apply product dripping wet. How some stylists glob on mousse all over and use high heat.

Eve Mcpherson: ok but why is my routine literally her donts fml

Molly Taylor: 2:49 - MAKE SURE your hair is in a VERY LOOSE bun!! I always just tie it up in a scrunchie because that doesn't yank the curls out of your damp hair as much as a normal hair tie would. I also do the bun on the top of my head; that way, the weight of your hair isn't pulling the curls out of the strands closer to your forehead.

nicol peguero: Thank you for the video it is really helpful!!! Been doing my curls wrong my whole life

D J: Wow I do about 90% of the don'ts and my hair looks just like your did when you did them. rofl Nice to know that I can have more defined hair!! I was losing hope and thinking that my hair would always look mangy and I'd just have to keep it up or straighten it

pooja moorti: wow this was so helpful!! my hair really looks like the don'ts wet side i am ashamed to say could you do a video for the following days do & don'ts for volume + definition? i find my hair especially at the roots get quite flat <3

Apoorva Andrew: You really helped I’ve been doing my hair wrong all this while !

Nicole Hones: Thank you so much for this video I did my hair and it turned out amazing!

Faye: Found what I was doing wrong, I was brushing my son's hair down instead of out. Thanks for the tips.

nohya Amande: Ok I'm letting my hair grow now. I know they can do just that, and I want it, thanks for showing the way!

Felicity Grey: Me literally doing all the don’ts and wondering why my hair looks so bad Thanks for all the likes <3

Verena: My daughter has curly hair and the john frieda items are the best items for her hair.. she loves her curls and thanks to this video i know a bit more on what to do especially by the roots.. so thank you so much for making this video .. and dont forget your curls are awesome!!!

Neno Jamme: Loooll I thought I knew everything about taking care of my curls by now, but the thing about styling too wet or too dry.. OMG! That makes so much sense, why did I never think of this before. Thanks gorgeous girl!

Bianca: I was styling on soaking wet hair this whole time and never knew what was wrong !!!! Aaaahhhh ty ty !!! Helped me sm luv!!

Dawn Frye: My beautician at salon does so many don’ts on me & I feel awkward telling her, I feel like she should know these things! My biggest nono is I use way too much product. Hoping your tips help me your gorg!

kay izzy: this was the most helpful video on curly hair i think i’ve ever watched.... you targeted specifically everything i needed.

Kayla Matthews: Thank you for sharing! Your curls are beautiful and so are you! ❤️

Jakumata: Seriously I have the exact same hair as you and I so appreciate your video a lot. Especially a high yes on the don't brush dry bit and the shampooing bit. I've completely switched to only eco products all coming in solid form and follow the routine of only washing the scalp with shampoo, condition the ends, ditching the towel immediately, brush, then ruffle the hair and don't apply anything to it usually (sometimes i use a tiny amount of oil on the damp hair). Works wonders!
