Okay in the next five minutes, i am going to reveal to you the secrets that your hair stylist has been using on your hair at the salon to make your hairstyle look a whole lot better. I'M gon na teach you five specific tips, things that stylists do in the salon behind the chair, but many times just forget to tell you they are simple, little hacks that are going to help. You know how to style your hair better, so that you every morning can wake up feeling like you just walked out of a salon that my friends is a terrible commercial. That'S what it felt like did it feel like that i felt like i was doing like a revlon commercial. Is that what i apologize? But you get my point. Five minutes. Five hair hacks you're welcome. Should we start timer, we've got a timer, okay, timer on the clock. Five number one the ends matter. Yes, i see people all the time spending times on the mid shaft and the roots and not really spending too much time on the ends. Polished ends are many times the difference between your hair, looking very smooth and slick and healthy, and not so spend a little bit of extra time on the ends, whether you're round, brushing and or flat ironing your hair and you'll be amazed at how much more polished The overall style looks number two add volume. While you sleep many times, people wake up the next day, you're kind of frustrated. Your hair is a little bit grimy and greasy, and it just doesn't have quite the ump how come the stylus can make it last, and i have a hard time doing that. More often not stylists use a bunch of products in your hair and they use at least more product than you use at home and therefore it soaks up a little bit of that grease or helps to get a little bit more of that root volume. So it's a pretty simple fix: do a little bit of dry shampoo on your roots before you go to bed and let that dry shampoo soak up some of your natural oils, as well as some of the just day-to-day grime that catches up on your hair. You wake up in the next morning with a little bit more root, lift and a little bit easier chance of you getting the style that you want that's two days, one style you're welcome. I feel like that's a twofer number. Three. You got ta, pull your hair smoother if you're using a round brush or you're, even using a flat iron tension, is super important. Not having enough tension, makes it a lot harder to actually smooth your hair out in the salon. We choose specific brushes that give the hair a certain amount of tension. It doesn't pull your hair, but it also doesn't just slide through your hair that little bit of tension really helps us to smooth your hair out and give you a more polished style now. This also is true with flat irons if your hair is just sliding through the flat iron, with absolutely no tension whatsoever. Almost as though the iron isn't even closed, it's going to be very hard to get your hair straighter and smoother, squeezing a little bit harder to get a little bit more attention is gon na go a long way, so simply add a little bit of attention to Your morning, routine and you're gon na be golden number. Four. An even pace wins the race. That was a terrible title. When people are styling their hair, they tend to go very slowly from the roots through the mid shaft, but then they start to slightly speed up a bit once they get towards those ends. This happens with round brushes as well as it happens with flat irons. Now this is important not just to smooth the ends out, but to also keep an even amount of polish and smoothness all the way from the mid shaft to the ends. You want your entire hair shaft to look equally as nice, and so an easy way to do. That is to just move at an even pace as you move through your hair all the way through the ends, you don't speed up or slow down at any point. Now, even more importantly, this will be far more efficient, you'll get a better style and potentially even spend less time with heat on your hair and therefore add a little bit less damage now five, and that is feeling for frizz. You feel your hair too much you'll find frizz. Now, i'm sure you already know if you comb through your hair, when it's curly you're going to find a world of frizz. Well, it's the same thing that happens while you're drying your hair. You have to remember that from the point that your hair is wet to the time that it becomes dry any sort of manipulation, whether it be from air or from your hands touching, it will create frizz so to minimize the frizz simply minimize the manipulation. Keep your hands out of it, keep the manipulation down. You'Re gon na find less frizz, regardless of what product you use. One great way to do this is to use a diffuser as well as just like, i said, before, keep your hands out of it now. This is true, even if you're air drying your hair, you just want to pay attention the fact that it's going to take longer for it to air dry. So if you're out in a windy area - or you have the window rolled down in your car, all of this wind manipulation can add. Frizz, so perfect scenario sit in the room and don't move while your hair dries and then you'll have less frizz. That'S insane! Don'T do that but don't manipulate it. You'Ll find less frizz boom five tips in under five minutes. You can't tell me you didn't like that all right. So if you have any questions, you know where to find me. Otherwise, if you have any tips, share them below and make sure you hit the subscribe button so that you can catch up on all the videos. Every tuesday i bring out a new one, usually have some mildly good stuff. All right, i'm just gon na, be longer than five minutes. Now i got ta go so you

Justin Hickox: Quick question: are you new here or a veteran of the channel? Do me a quick favor and let me know, new or vet? Thank you!!

Family of Geniuses: This was good! I’d love to see a version for people who style their hair naturally wavy or curly, too! Thanks

Deidre Kellogg Ketroser: I’m a veteran who is addicted to your videos! Your personality is joyful and just what I need most days. I plan to send in a photo and ask for your advice (one of these days). Thanks for all that you do, and your genuineness!

Lori Wolf: That makes so much sense now. I have dense fine hair and the more I touch, scrunch, or brush, the more frizzy my hair. ‍♀️. Thank you for the 5 simple but sooooo useful tips. I really appreciate your help and your channel and content. It doesn’t suck

Kay Belanger: Fairly new, but I’m so thankful I found you! I have fine, wavy hair that is starting to thin out as I get older. It’s affected by humidity and can make me crazy. I’m very appreciative of you showing us fine haired girls how to work with what we’ve got. Just wish you were closer so that I could get one of your amazing haircuts!

D N: Also a vet! LOVE your channel. Thanks to you I got a GREAT cut last time at the salon—had the stylist take extra off the back and angled the cut a bit towards my face. Plus, I’m now using tons more product. The style has been holding up great AND I just learned why it looks so clean the next day. Thanks so much!

Sherry Watkins: Veteran here, absolutely love your helpful videos. 66 and blessed with beautiful, long silver, fine, naturally curly hair. I've had an added challenge this past year as I'm going through breast cancer recovery. I was fortunate to only need a single mastectomy and no chemo or radiation. There would be weeks at a time when a couldn't lift my elbows above my shoulders. My local salon would wash and dry my hair. Then at night, I taught my husband how to pull my hair up into a high pony tail. Then brush it with a wet brush & roll around a stretchy head band. Pull one end through the other & double wrap it around the bun. I may look a bit like Cindy Loo Who, but in the morning there's lots of volume, big soft curls & no frizz. I just shake my head and finger comb a but & I'm ready for the day.

Lorelei Denton: You're the BEST, Justin. I'm aware of all of those trade secrets, but being reminded of them is most helpful. I've got thick, fine hair and am very prone to the frizzies. The diffuser is definitely my go-to tool when drying before styling. I know I'm guilty of rushing thru my hair sections when blow drying because I'm impatient (I need about 30 minutes to style ). So thank you for the great tips.

Wendy Clark: Thank you! I'm fairly new to your channel and am so grateful to have found you. I've been "helpless" and clueless all my life with my hair, and no one, no stylist has ever been able to answer the questions I've had, or give me direction with my hair. It's been SO frustrating my whole life, and now at this age, it's become very wavy (now what?!!) on top of trying to figure out my hairstyle with my aging face/disappearing facial features. Finding your fun and the very helpful channel has been a god-send! I still need help! Much gratitude to you, and your beautiful wife!

Natalie Shlevich: a few months into watching your videos, and checking the previously submitted ones. Really appreciate your work of educating your viewers and the way you do it!

Barbara Skinner: Couple of months watching your posts. I’ve picked up a number of good tips and try to remember them. Muscle memory and years of doing it the same old way mean that I don’t always follow your ways (& then I get cross with myself as my hair doesn’t look as good). Thanks for your upbeat posts.

Christine R: Hi Justin this is so helpful! I was actually going to write you for tips to dry and style someone else's hair. My mother in law is no longer able to do her own hair, so we take turns helping her. But, I struggle so much with getting her hair to lay smooth. Her hair is very curly and coarse, and I am just not used to trying to style it so that it is not frizzy, and not poufy! So, I will try these tips, but I may be back for more advice! :O Thank you for all you do.

Vicki Baeza: Hi Justin, although I'm an esthetician, I worked in salons for 25 years and saw A LOT of stylists, colorists, techniques, variety in clientele, different hair, responses, etc, etc.... I just read a great comment from a viewer that said "getting close to being happy with my hair every day". WOW, what a compliment! My first thought was "good to hear 'cos it's hard to accomplish" and then I realized how impactful it really was. It must have made you feel very good to hear that sort of validation of the efforts you so generously give to people. Most people who work in the beauty industry do so because they love to help others feel good about themselves through their appearance, as well as they love what they do. If you ever have days when you question the worthiness, time and effort spent or acceptance of your advice, just search out the comments like the one I quoted above and take it to heart. Stay LOL

TB Rech: Appreciate your tips and info. Wish you were in my area. I would definitely visit your salon. I just acquired a new blow dryer, flat iron and some excellent products to keep my aging dry hair looking good. Went from a pixie cut and color in my hair to going grey with a slightly longer style…mostly because of what I have learned from you. Thank you so much.

Pam B: Great! I love your sense of humor. I comb my hair and leave it alone. But the next day is another story. I sleep on a silk pillowcase. My hair usually looks like a faux hawk when I wake up. I’m a rough sleeper. But it’s getting a little better. I just brush it a little and it goes back into shape. I have never used dry shampoo. And my hair is short. And it’s very dry. And I may go next week to get it trimmed back into shape. My whole life I have had nice hair. But I’ll be 63 next week. And my hair does suck now. I have had some medical problems and they have taken a toll on my hair. Your wife has beautiful hair, but she has you to do it for her. Right?

Oscar Dog: Aussie 66 year old with very curly hair here. I’ve been watching you (and subscribed) for a while now Justin. Love seeing your local scenery as well as enjoying all the respectful advice you give the ladies who send in their photos.

Linda Marocco: Love the tips, Justin, thank you so much!!!!!

Joan Martin: I have NEVER walked out of a salon with nice hair…until now! I have naturally curly/wavy hair and hair stylists do not know how to style it. They usually end up putting too much of the wrong product and use a hairdryer and curling iron, which defeats the purpose. I end up with big, puffy hair. I went to a Curly hair salon recently, and for the first time I walked out with beautiful curly hair!

Mica Gomez: I am new here and all the tips in this video are so helpful! Thank you for sharing!

Wanda Kenney: Wonderful tips but seeing you do natural curly hair in a video with no frizz would be helpful

inelda fitte: I love watching you comment on people's styles and how to improve. Thank you.

Carol Stripling: I appreciate the “slow down” at the ends when flat ironing info. The smoke or steam coming off my hair makes me want to hurry through though. Is that ok? ‍♀️

Chris p: Thanks! I am at 6 months of watching you. I love that you are so free with advice. What product do you like for getting lift in long, curly hair?

Lucy Mitchell: Amazing - thank you so much - I'm getting so close to being happy with my hair every day :D

Regina Day Snuffer: Vet here who enjoys your exciting videos.... Love the transformation tips on ladies who send photos, and enjoy learning from your valuable information. And you and your wife seem like such caring pleasant people. Delightful to watch. And the outdoor views are nice too! Thank you for these wonderful videos!!

Conquering Mount Scrapmore with Brenda: Hello! I finally get to sit with my hand quilting today and watch your video. I hope you have a joyful week ahead! Thank you for posting this video and sharing your time.

L Tilley: Vet, and still learning. The dry shampoo powder at NIGHT...genius!!! Thank you.

susan johnson: Started watching about the beginning of the year. I've never really 'styled my hair. I'd hot roll it once a week and comb it out daily and go. Before that just washed and combed for years. Now I comb and pin it up. I'm older and I think having it down drags my face down.

jojo gorecki: Proud vet of your channel, still learning new tips from you! Thanks, Justin!

Rachel VanWilligan: Vet, love your channel and all the pretty places you film! Thanks!

Iris McCloud: I am a veteran viewer. I found the tips interesting and potentially useful but I have a question. As you are applying tension when using a flatiron how do you prevent that crimp that can show?

Cuisinette Lidi: Hi, thank you it’s very useful and helpful

Jesus Loves YOU: Thank you!! Great tips. My way has typically been to hide it under a baseball cap

Sherrill: I LOVE your channel. You make it so interesting to listen and watch! I live in England so unfortunately won’t see your pop ups ☹️ but will enjoy watching your videos still!

Khanjari Joshi: Absolutely and ridiculously wonderful video! Great tips! I am kind of sad and happy at the same time... happy, ofcourse, because it is a wonderful and 'full of tips' video... sad because I look forward to your videos and spend about 15 minutes listening to you....today was only 5... I watched the video 3 times not kidding! Much love and light to you and Dionna, as always, from your biggest fan from Charlotte, NC ❤️

Tamara Morton: Your videos are always so good.

Margaret Hogan: Justin I have thick strong hair. It used to be so easy to manage. It may have been a bit flyaway I didn't notice. I could turn my head upside down blow-dry my hair and fabulous sleek hair. Then 50's and menopause. Boom frizz dry of course now I have to dye it. I had black or deep brown hair. Any advice would help. I'm a beginner. I never had to use conditioner. Hard to believe now. I want it to be healthy. It's wirey and the greys stick straight up.

Heidi Drury: My dream is to wake up and have a chef a driver and someone to do my hair everyday...your wife is so lucky. I follow her on IG and love what you both offer. Tell her thanks and I appreciate all your tips...now get in that new van and get to Texas asap!

Tricia Glenn: Thanks for these tips! My long hair lacks body so I will try using dry shampoo before going to bed.

H D: Great tips! I'm off to bed now, will spritz on a little dry shampoo

Jacqueline Noel: You are awesome. Love your videos. Helpful!

sjramos123: WHAT A GREAT VIDEO. Been subscribed for about 6 months now.

Rara Avis: Vet. Well, kinda. Haven't been watching for that long, but I binge watched two dozen videos right away and have been hooked since. I love the 'hair mistakes' series especially. It's like a fun game, by know. How close will I get, to what you're going to recommend, lol? I'm drying and styling my hair 'curly girl' atm, but I will try the dry shampoo trick. With the higher temperatures in summer, my roots can definitely feel a little oily already on the second day.

Jeanie Smith: Thanks. I learned new stuff. I appreciate all your videos!

yeahweburnstuff: Awesome! Thanks Mrs and Mr Hickox!

Lyne Machabée: I’m trying the dry shampoo trick tonight!!

Geri Reski: Also, that “poofing powder” at nite helps to wake up a tad more manageable..what do you think of that product?

Gretta Lemabouchou: Thankyou....My hair is three ft. long and silver. It is also virgin. Thanks for the tips.

Cynthia Hoz: Hey Justin, Great reminders! Can you comment on the Hairstory line of products? Thanks

Grammi Gram: Excellent! Thank you!

Foxy Cinquantuno: Good tips, especially about finishing the ends! I really dislike that "I curled my hair with a straightening iron or a wand with no clip and the ends are just randomly straight at the end of a wave/curl" look. What the heck is that? Do people actually like the way it looks and do that on purpose?

Katrina Hough: Great video. Hope you have a great week!

EC: Ugh. How did I live without this? Thank u

Lynn Rose: Vet. You provide great information.

Vicki Evans: How would these techniques apply to short hair?

Sandra Jones: Can we please get an update on your travel plans this year? I can’t wait to schedule an appointment with you when you come to Dallas!

Debra Curry: Most powder on scalp will help.. cheaper and choice of safer. Brush out.. been around since the late 60s.

Kathrin Mairhofer: Love it!

Lormod23: Definitely a vet. Love all these tips

Jj K: Thank you, Justin! (And also to your lovely model).

Alison Worthington: Vet from England. I keep meaning to send you the pics of my hair. I would love for you to see if you could do anything with it as it’s so horrible and troublesome. Wish I was in the states so I could book an appointment!

Mary Alice Mason: Hi late to the conversation. Question, is there a solution to getting a perm and then deciding I don’t like it. Thanks.

Lisa Esparza: New (watching for maybe 6 months)When are you traveling? Would love to get my hair cut by you

Svitlana Horster: I have long, healthy, thick, heavy hair I watch a lot your videos - how to style your hair to look great, but to be honest- no one was helpful at all ((, especially about how to make a volume near the roots (, I don’t know, it’s just didn’t work ‍♀️

Deborah Liebert: The flat iron you used was real wide. Where is that one purchased? Thanks, Deb

P Wengel: Hope you have a wonderful next adventures in your lives. If and when you travel East, and hopefully to Vermont, make sure you let me know! Enjoy!!!!

Renee McCready: My curls only last a day. What am I doing wrong?

hearts lessons:

Elizabeth W: Dry shampoo at bedtime.....I never thought!! THanks

Katie Moyer: FYI…my YT here( in Illinois area ) does not have the -click for product - feature /it’s the little up arrow on upper right side of the area with text/words about the vid/ section.

Leigh Schleper: New!! I wished I could visit your salon every 6 weeks but KY isn’t conducive to your location. Lol

PMD: Any tips for pixie girls?

Theresa Shay: As I was growing up, it was normal to wash your hair everyday! Old habits are hard to break! I still get up and wash my hair every single day. I don't do it because of it being greasy, I literally don't know how to style it unless I wash it. So some of this, I just can't do

Lori Norris: My very fine hair "grows" (frizzes) in humid weather. I live in NC, where the air can have 100% humidity and it isn't raining. Help!

K VuP: Good morning

Linda Marocco: VET!!…#OGCommunityRockstar…

Constance: Justin, what heat protectant product do you think is best for thin, fine dry hair. I find that every product I use dries my hair out. Thank for any advice you can give me.
