Jamaican Hair Stylist Says No To 4C Hair

A Jamaican hairstylist placed passive aggressive notice on her instagram that she doesn't do 4c hair. I and many others sensed some black hypocrisy and thought she was being texturist, which is pretty common in Jamaica as we love to exalt "pretty hair" and light skin. Colorism and texturism is a problem. So I decided to call her out.

Hi guys welcome back to my channel, so I want to talk about this Jamaican hairstylist that made a texturized post on her IG page. So I don't know if you guys know Aloha, but I follow her. I'M subscribed to her on YouTube and yesterday she posted the video title was stylist, refuses to style for see here. So I clicked on it and then, to my surprise, she said it was a Jamaican hairstylist. We lived in Kingston, Jamaica and I was shocked. So this is a screenshot from her from aloha video and so she kind of blocked out the girl name. So I couldn't tell who it was, but it said reminder: exclamation exclamation. I don't do ponytails on 4c hair texture. Thank you. So I was just like who is this: who is this person looking through the comments, and I didn't see the name of the business or anything, and so I took the Instagram, and I said here if anybody know who she is. Please tugger because I wanted to know his who a follower sent me a direct message with her page, and she also sent me this post that she made, which is another post. So I'm more than one occasion she posted that she doesn't to type for her, and this one reads: please be reminded that this style cannot be done on natural hair, for it for see its dimensions all about so I was like well why the exclamation - and why Do you even have to declare that you don't do natural hearing it all to foresee you're just do I do so. Somebody makes a comment saying I think it can't be done by self pressing the hair. You should try it. You never know until you try. So she responds well there. I tried all methods, gel and natural hair. Just doesn't work. Well together you mean you just can't do it, you just can't do it gel and natural hair, don't work it your company. Naturally, your girls use gel you just can't do it or know what you're aiming for is this mixed girl a with the edges, lay looking like it mixed with you know mixed girl baby here, that's what you're aiming for so the natural here you just don't look Like that, but to say that natural hair can be put in a ponytail is ridiculous because we've seen it done so many times you just can't do it. So I went on her page and I'm scrolling through. I said: okay she's, a weed specialist, that's what she specialized in putting you know your friend looking here on black women's heads, cool, fine, whatever she does spawn it is, and she does those I don't know how what a card is. You know lives from you know baby here, looking thing that makes it look like you're mixed or something yeah. So these ponytails are her is what she's specializing it seems. You know she's specialize in the mixed look, everybody look like them. Mixer them wait and I wasn't going to do this. You know I wasn't really going to make a video about this, but she was so like this girl have no scruples in what she's doing and just the way how she responded to me. The back-and-forth between me and her on Instagram, I was just like no no mother talk about it because she acted like I'm, I'm the one being negative you're, the one who is alienating a whole group of women with for a type texture right, so you're not only Doing what you're doing but you're trying to insult other people who cannot be a part of what you're doing so yeah, I'm gon na call you out. So I made a post and I tagged her on it and I wasn't even trying to be mean. I really wasn't. I just took a bunch of pictures that have fallen on Pinterest of kinky hair in ponytails and I tagged it on Astor. Well, is it that he don't do it or you can't do it, and I asked her if she was up for a challenge to do it right. She took offense to it and and saw me and call me and say I'm looking for clothes, I'm doing anything for clothes and it's disgusting and saying that I'm being negative and something about the page being clothed. Could I be looking promoting black beauty and self-love really? What kind of clothes that I'm a male lookout from you? I hear where, from what we buy things, I'm a hit. Please give me a break. Second teen are the page live or Tommy? Are you cool in you attack other people here, and I put some people here right, I'm basically encouraging them to feel like what they have is less than I'm encouraging them to actually appreciate what they have. Naturally, Oh Tommy are you who live what maybe this yeah then she says I'm not doing ponytail on four see here and like a forced me period, but enough for you, my girl, because ask a simple question: can you do it or can't you do it? It was simple: what's the big deal just answer, she eventually said can't say what cool you can do it then she goes on to get cocky and talk about kuving's. I dedicated a whole Instagram post about her and I'm saying, oh god she gets in. I know I eat I get to our house. We created a poster. Boys are like no it's about it. Ignorance, really, yeah! It'S really about telling people not to act or behave like you. I see the world like you. Do it's just about highlighting you just that you're doing when we wind our non-art back and forth fry little while until I was just like over it, because she wasn't understanding that at all and she wasn't trying to understand one of her comments and that natural girls? You know connect to our place all the time she get walk-ins and so women walking and and then they're disappointed when she tell him that she's handed in here and whatever that's why she make the public decoration and I'm like really, first of all like natural. Let me know how that go. If I go any repeat, I say all of that: you'd be the last person I think of to do my hair. So if I'm even planning to get epona tea, I'm gon na call first or even sending. I do message and ask you if you do it, I'm really gon na give natural girls the benefit of the doubt here and sex. No we're not going to just walk up into your place and ask you to do our hair when that's not what you usually do tell them in a sense. I really felt it was important to do this video because we really have to start talking about these people and these businesses and when people are texture is found colorists, because it has everything to do with our self-esteem and what is being promoted. It has everything to do with wholly feel about ourselves and even hope. The children who come after us will feel about issues and she's, promoting that. I'M also not at the same time, because if she promoting us - and that is what she's doing fine. But why do you have to be so loud and oh we're not doing fancy over here right? That'S extremely important like who you talking to like that you got ta, listen black people, black women, you all have to start valuing yourselves a little bit more, don't go into these establishments and I don't care that you know. I think us, if, if it really don't matter to me, if it's affecting our business comes to be honest, this is not something that I would support anyway, and I'm not for they put European here upon people ahead. I'Ll get them salutely then mixed are them. Is something else that they're? Not I'm not about that, so I don't care father. This is not ours. I don't see no kind of guilt doing this right, but the women who go to her is no yeah. She clearly is not about you. I know you look. She'S not about that she's about looking like something but she's at the same time, and it's funny she's gon na be about that, but she's actually telling you know we don't you over here. If you wan na look like somebody else, yes, but that's no and he's the way ho she said she acting like she said it, because you know she tried to look out for them. It'S you're, being textures. That'S it period right, so yeah. We'Re calling you out on your, but you guys have to find yourself a little bit more, don't go into spaces where your image is not celebrated, where you have to make an adjustment to look like something else where they celebrates the European standards of beauty. Don'T go to those places, cuz they're, looking going on here, they're looking down on your features, it's just not good enough right. There are lots of places that, when you're going down easy, you yeah because see what the thighs look like. The hair that grows out of your skull support those businesses under a plethora of them in and around Kingston all sign of 9000 town of Kingston as well. Right support those businesses support the businesses that make natural hair products right. There are some products that you can use it in here, no to get and insider look. When I stop trying to look like a white woman, stop trying to look like a mixed woman, love yourself, love what girl, Oh to your scalp bu, it's okay to be. You won't be near hand hi, I'm still around goddess. I make them turn around. Ah, Russia where's she coming from yeah. I saw me walk nobody not have nothing on me. Nobody, no more, not me, because when you close to whiteness comment on it and we really forget serious bullet it we're coming to you talk walking, that's what I do, but we're not going to go there today. Those are stories father days anyway, guys. Thank you for today I will link up in the next video alright later

kc.willis TV: There are a number of Jamaican hairstylists that Cannot do certain styles, I remember booking a hairstylist to do a sewin. she was supposed to sew in some Malaysian curly hair bundles but the problem was that she could not blend my leave out section with the Malaysian hair yet I saw a lot of videos on youtube of it being done but she had the nerve to tell me that I should relax ( cream) the leave out. I was so disappointed in her and she is a well-known hairstylist in half way tree. The funniest thing about this is that I had to get another person to do it who was not even a licensed hairstylist and she blend my natural hair so well with the extensions. All they wanted to do is specialist in relaxed hair or wigs. Natural hair is beautiful!

AuNaturale Kinkz: To me a stylist that can’t work with ALL textures is not a true stylist IMO.

❄️Naturally Kool🌬️: Thank you for standing up for 4c naturals and for the truth

SACRED JASMINE: I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a stylist telling people that she doesn’t know how to make this sleek ponytail look good on type 4 hair. I would have respected the stylist more if she said she doesn’t want to do the style on 4 types because she can’t get it to look as sleek as she wants it. But instead, she chose to say it’s the texture and the hair mixed with gel that is the problem. smh lady if you don’t know how to do it, trust and believe type 4’s will find someone else who can do it because they won’t risk their hair being jacked up. Let’s not blame people’s hair and products. It’s your technique, sweetie.

The Rowe Family: Bwoy she bright eeh. Seriously though based on everything you said in the video she sounds hateful against us 4c girls and that is why I'm so passionate about teaching kendra about her hair, simply because of people like her who will try to make her feel less of herself. She need to take a seat. #selflove

Kay Slayz Braidz: Stuff like this makes me sooo mad... I’ve had 4c customers with the kinkiest hair everrr and I had them looking like the pony tails in the pics ......it’s possible if they want their hair pressed out really straight but If not, they can still get it sleeked no matter what.... so what if it has a few kinks and waves in it... it’s sleek no matter what

Beautiful Dreamer: There are lots of 4c tutorials where women show you how to slick down your 4c hair. Extensions serve a purpose so I am not knocking it. I can appreciate both extensions and natural hair!

BeautifulSamaria: Great video, and kudos to you for calling out that stylist.

Global African: Great Message ❤️

Astrology of Style: I'm 4c n a stylist had me slick for a wedding lol...

A P: Amen sis! She sending to wrong message.

Kayla Renae: That’s crazy

FallnAngel07: Gel and natural hair doesn't work well together?

stacygya1: Sending you love from

J B: This is why I wouldn’t be a stylist. I don’t have 4c hair and I have no clue what to do with it. Why be a stylist and then purposefully tell people you can’t do their hair lol

TamJam Tv: A lot of insinuations & assumptions. To each their own. A stylist can specialize in whatever area they wish, it shouldn't bother anyone. She has a niche and you have yours. You're taking things personal it seems....everyone has their trod in this life and right to their choices/preferences ....like why wear makeup or clothes, shave, wear jewellery, perfume etc none of those things are natural. A part of feminine energy is being creative, so it manifests in various ways & expressions. And I'm not saying that ppl don't have identity issues but to try to tear down another black woman to the point of trying to 'call her out'/negatively publicize her business because she specializes in a particular area is distasteful. Let love & humility prevail.

Kay Slayz Braidz: And I’ve seen that post before too and I commented ....she just blocked me for saying something ... I’m not finna play

Acuity Tech: 4c unlimited possibilities

Tammy J: crazy!

Kay Slayz Braidz: New sub btw

Masha Lu: The thing is that in jamaica not many people have 4c hair (over the years jamaicans mixed with indians, Chinese, white makingg the hair less coily) so she simply has no skill in 4c and she being honest about it

Tonii Campbell: Tbh your both wrong smh..How you have the audacity to complain about someones business mind your business mam..kmt..And stop telling people what to do ..If someone want to look however they want let them..You sound like a controlling person..Again mind your business I thank You respectfully

Jada Tanjaylia: Girl ur doing too much its not that serious.
