Hi everyone, its margaret manning here with 60. In me, this is the place where women who are aging beautifully come to be inspired. My guest today is Denise. Mcadam Denise is a very well-known hairdresser and stylist in the UK, she's had 40 years experience and having just reached her 60th birthday herself, she totally understands what women our age are going through. As as regards to hair now, she's got a lot of experience. Brands come to her all over the world to ask her for her advice, and she has worked with some amazing, photographers and celebrities and has actually done work for the royal family in the UK for some time now. I want to mention that she has recently received an award from the Queen of England. Her moniker Majesty has given her an award. It'S a royal victorian medal, and very very few people are given this as a thank-you from the royal family for all the hard work. They'Ve done so, thank you so much for being here Denise! Thank you! It'S exciting! It'S a really great honor that you two have had that I mean I think you mentioned only one. Other hairdresser has the Royal Victoria medal yes, and that dresser Ian Carmichael who's lovely. Yes, this is more of a private honor and a great honor, but it's something that the Queen gives herself. So it's not something that he's kind of brought it in for so it's very special. It'S wonderful! Well, you must have a lot of stories to tell you have to write a book one day, yeah yeah. I think it's all in the back way I'll leave it for someone else to write. Well, it's a great career and so happy to have you here, because we're talking about some different things relates to hair for older women, and one thing that we took shown that other videos about. But it's really important, is how to deal with damaged hair. As you get older so damaged, well, you know, how did you get damaged? That'S always the thing: how did it get? Is it health reasons? Is it hormonal? Is it chemical for its mean, you know damage yeah? No, is it just badly treated by you normally with bad hair, brushes or too hot hair dryer burning in here or have you been in the Sun, you know, is it its? How is it damaged? That'S kind of once you get to the point of understanding. Why establish that it's easier to to consult and give you a solution to the problem and some some other things you mentioned if we're interrupting it's just some of them are things you you can stop doing that you can avoid, but something's like if your medical reasons And whatever, so it's a very complex area, but let's get there has some tips on what can be done so um. You know a good tip is actually is to when you're blow-drying, your hair, from which dries actually two to gently dry, the roots first, so you're, not using too hot in here dryer on the ends, just keep watching your dryer, which you know that it's not it's Not running the ends, and I need a watched ejector where your hair dryer is awaits one of the things that I'm not a big lover of the Dyson, your dryer I do have one, because obviously I would want to know how it works nicely for me, using On myself, I'm not a lover of it; ah it you, you definitely can't run your hair with it. It definitely executes on damage. So if you're, here's quite fine, it's a pretty hair, dryer and yeah I find with currently here - and you might be something like me - that blow dries a bit straighter throat. Yes, now don't find it just as good, but then it does stop damaging it's a lot of here and then there's another thing which is straightening irons put product on their hair and then they put a straightening iron on it. No, you wouldn't cook product all over a shirt and then put on a hot iron. On top of it, you wouldn't put a hot iron on top of a black jacket. You put something in between. Do you really need to use things that heat protect? You protecting sprays are a really great thing to use. Do you have any in mind that you would recommend I'm quite a fan of the Weller ones, to be honest? Well, as sister professional, he prevents his freeze there who's reading as the Santa Lucia's you get in body and heat protection. You know Lori, I like a few that are good and tomorrow's some great ones out in the supermarket by Charles Worthington and people like that yeah. In the UK, I've seen they're worthy today. No, I actually, I did do damage to my hair actually about five years ago I started I my hair and really getting into the totally straight hair. I wish to iron my hair, when I was 18 with an iron. Did you do that our towers thingy? In fact, it was actually better fear here than there are hot irons you do to the year you've already on the hair. Thank you. When you're hot irony here two dollars, it's better to use a new Cretaceous feed or have nothing we are here completely birch in here. Okay, so heats of one of the big causes of damage. What else have we got, and I guess we've got John bought more brittle, hair or dry hair, yeah atmosphere and often that could be health. I mean for a certain age of brutal and breaking here can be a sign of other things. So it's if it's really brittle really breaking you find your nails are actually doing the same. My nails are a little bit broken though, but that's been doing other things, but you for then you you really need to wait, might not be a bad idea. Just of a house check yeah Ellis yeah, I'm not trying to arm anyone, but it's it's something to watch for that's what's important, knowing your hairdresser and your hairdresser annoying you! Yes, you know because they can see that something's different. This is not right and they can consult with you and find out. It'S not it's, not air pollution. It'S not. He is not this menu. You can get something checked out because, as I say before, to you here is a barometer to what the body is doing. I think a lot of women take more time assessing their hairdresser than they do their doctor because seriously it's like it when you, when you move it. So, oh my gosh, I'm gon na move and not have my access to my sometimes I'll be honest. I mean sometimes your hairdresser, maybe knows just as much or maybe not more than your dog. So maybe point you in the right direction: yeah pretty sure. Well, then, okay, so dry and brittle, that's something to think about. But what about just thinning hair? What kinds of thing here is a is a big subject and asking approach properly, because you can frighten the living daylights that sound, really actually panics them, and you don't want to do that. So I'm thinning here are often is supplements, a supplement which is known for live the scale, which is a superb supplement, and I prepare a bigger scale professional. You can get that in here silence because it has the highest amount of biotin in it without being on prescription, because by Tino look his greed can be very bad for you as well. Okay, commence! That'S the great thing. With the supplement. It'S already measured. You'Ve got the right amount of everything, mm-hmm and fish oils. Omega-3 is the usual the usual. You know once you need, but it's just important to massage for the years, a good thing, maybe not too weighty on the land. If you know you can get you know, sort of you can get a thinning over here when you've constantly pulled the hair back, mm-hmm titanium all the years or you've worn a hat for a living. So you can get thinning from the hair then, and I'd also white here does get thinner because it's got only two layers, so it is working on that and keeping it thicker. I think what you mentioned earlier there about. I mean we talked about thinning hair. Before is it that and in a way, isn't as damaged as it is, or it can be a sign of damage, but it's it's more likely. It'S just a process of of aging because, as you say, your head and get hair actually reduces in texture, and you know so it's not so much damaged as it is just aging. Yes, yeah. I mean it's maturing here, yeah, you know it's. I worked on a product myself, actually quite a few years ago. We called it time to fire at the time. To you know was the fact I was a wee bit. We were a bit early for that mature market. Yes, because there's only know that women are come from underneath the stored and talking about menopause and postmenopausal, and you know they talk about women having postnatal depression, that there is such a thing. It'S grandmother, depression to things that you know, women are getting hit with or where the it. So you know you face different journeys as you get older yeah and I we can talk about them, which is actually quite revolutionary yeah. You wouldn't on that in the past, and I think that's what's Greek and I think am I talking about it, makes you feel better. So you know to talk about your health and thinning and thinning. Here is it's important? Sometimes you may need extensions. You maybe need a few extension and into the year which really works with getting here, and it does make it feel better, maybe just the bottom area, which means the whole lot feel better. It'S almost like making the bottom tier a little bit more structured. Yes, you know, I think, what you just said, I'm listening very carefully, because I think that the psychological way that you look at your hair is as important as anything else and, like you said that we're beginning now to learn more about how the body works and, And to watch you know symptoms in your hair and your and the way that your it's looking and the damage that it might have as a sign of some vitamin A deficiency or just something else in your environment. That'S affecting you, yeah and also another mistake, and I mention this before is you know? Sometimes people are going to the hairdresser's with the picture which isn't a bad idea, because it just is a psychological thing, because you know what you call long. What I would call your hair long right now you look on a chart, it's Lance! If you go into here dresses, they want my hair short, but you might have meant your type of short, not my type of short, you know see if they'll get your helps them realize that actually that's the link, you need, but often it's quite unbelievable - that women Often bring in a picture of them when they were 25 searching yeah, that's what I want to be like, and what could you let the whole thing the face? Go, the textures different. It'S never going to be that again. Yeah Breece wants its new chapter. Asst enjoy the new chapter, I think that's great advice and I think your big tip here is basically to stay healthy, mentally and physically and to get your hair will. Then there may be some things you can help with vitamins and vitamins and vitamins are vitamins in England completely hybrid, but know this is a wonderful conversation. Thank you so much and I encourage people to go to your Instagram. I know that it's personal, but you also do your. Your professional is my dog, so on my Instagram, this is where you're so healthy. JoAnne Kempf: My hair is in excellent condition. Funny thing - after menopause the texture of my hair changed from straight to wavy! And I love it! I wear it fairly short and I've never colored it. I have very few gray hairs and those gray strands I do have are sparkly silver. Generally I lightly dry my hair with a diffuser to let the natural waves just happen. I think as we age it's best to just accept our hair as is. There are too many other things to do than fuss with our hair. But I have been blessed with nice thick locks. I would have to say that my hair is probably my best feature.

Patricia Muir: I had to laugh when you talked about ironing you hair with a clothing iron. My brother used to iron my hair on the ironing board. That was before straightening irons. We had to do it while my dad was out. He would tell us we were crazy.

Diane Conti: I highly recommend Swarzkoph oil in shampoos, conditioners and masks. The barbary fig and argon oil shampoo revived my hair after heavy bleaching. Needless to say I'll never get that bored ever again!

Susan Benes Pacheco: I swear by Biotin, 1000 mcg. My nails and hair are strong, thick and grow a lot faster since I started taking it.

Pam: When i was pregenant with my son i did not know i was, and i went for a perm the hairdresser said my hair was brittle and she whispered to me was i pregenant i was only 19 i said no but she was right i was!

Gail Williams-Swetman: You can get thinning hair from having hypothyroidism.

58Coffee: My hair has thinned on the front above the four head. I wear my hair long and pulled up into a bun. I would like to know what to do to make it seem fuller in the front. I do not cut my hair for religious reasons so that is not an option.

La Duke: Hi Margaret, Stylish Denise McAdam seems knowledgeable and great guest, just hard to understand her, thanks so much!

Sandy Losacco: Very hard to understand her, so sorry. I'm sure good info.
