ABOUT VIDEO:

Hey Afrodisiacs! In today's video I talk about my experience using ApHogee's Two Step Protein treatment for almost 1 year and the differences I've noticed with my hair. While I feel that ApHogee's Protein Treatment has helped my hair with definition, it has been a struggle with moisture/protein balance because the treatment leaves my hair very strengthened for a very long time which means I have to be careful about using other products with protein in them. Also, I've noticed a drastic change in my hair in terms of shine. Prior to ApHogee, my hair had a lot of shine. Nowadays, my hair looks dull even on day 1 when it should look the most shiny. I'm making changes to my regimen and swapping out this protein treatment for something that is less intensive to see if that makes a difference. My guess is that the protein treatment was causing somewhat of a protein overload in my hair and that's why it has been so dull/dry looking in recent months. I hope this video was helpful. Hey aphrodisiacs, it's me khadija! So if you're new to my channel then please hit that subscribe. Button join the family and, if you're ready subscribe, then welcome back. Okay guys. So i know it's been probably one or two weeks since i've posted, but it feels like it's been longer since i've actually filmed so hopefully i do not mess up too much in this video. But the schedule has just been crazy and i haven't had time to film so yeah, but here i am, i'm filming this actually on the same day that i'm going to edit and post this video. So i'm filming this on a sunday and i need to update you guys. Okay, a lot has been going on like with my schedule and stuff, and also with my hair. I have been doing a lot of braid outs. Lately, i've been using some new products, i've been eliminating some products from my routine and my regimen, as you guys can see from this title. Obviously so yeah i am gon na. Have videos eventually showing you guys all of the different updates and talking more in depth about these changes and why i'm making them? But i first wanted to start with this one, because i have been using this product for almost a year. I began using it last november and we're in september now so almost a year that i've been using this product, but i just wanted to give you all the heads up on why i'm no longer using it, and this isn't like to bash the product or anything Like that, i just think when it comes down to products we need to find which one is suitable for our hair type. That is so important and i just feel like this particular product actually wasn't suitable for my level of high porosity hair okay. So, let's just dive right in. I hope that you all are doing well this hairstyle, if you're interested next week's video is going to show you how to get this style. I filmed a video before filming this one, so i've been busy. So yes, there will be a video up next week, but yeah, let's just jump right into this video. Okay. So, like i said, i started using this protein treatment last november and i began using it because my ultimate favorite protein treatment was discontinued during kovid. Like the peak of kovid, i wasn't able to find it anymore. You guys know what it is. It'S the nothing but intense healing mask that mask was amazing. It had hydrolyzed keratin in it. It was just perfect like to strengthen my hair and make it feel resilient, and i used it all the time, but with covid it was discontinued. So i had to find a new one and i figured you know. Aphogee is a well-known brand. They are pretty much that go-to brand. If you're looking to strengthen your hair, i really like their shampoo for damaged hair. I had been using that i also sometimes use their keratin two-minute reconstructor, so i was like why not use the two-step protein treatment as my go-to protein treatment, so i went ahead and purchased it. Actually. I started out with samples like this. I was using these packets for a while because effigy can get expensive. So i was like. Let me start off with this. First, make sure that it's something that i want to commit to and then once i decide that i'm going to use this, then i can purchase larger sizes. Now i don't have the larger sizes anymore, because i got rid of it, i'm not using it, but i still kept the little packet because i wanted to have something to show you guys it has the protein treatment up top, which is like a liquid, and then This is their balancing conditioner, which they recommend to follow up with after the protein. So just give yourself that moisture protein balance and if you feel like you need to add anything additional afterwards, let me fix this lighting, okay, and if you need to follow up with anything additional, then you definitely can for me. After doing these two steps, i would typically go in with a deep conditioner and that has been the mish indulge moisturizing deep conditioner. So you guys know for the year of 2022. I am a niche ambassador, so i have a ton of their products and i've been sticking with them for the most part, so yeah, i was just using this moisturizing deep conditioner. I started feeling like this year like beginning this year. Maybe this protein treatment is not for me and i started feeling this way. I guess if you guys go back to my video on how to moisture protein balance. Like a pro, i was having some difficulty because you know, like i said, i'm a mesh ambassador for this year and they have their indulge deep, conditioner which has moisture. This is like your moisturizing products and then they have a strengthened deep conditioner, since i was using aphogee right in the beginning of the month. That'S when i normally do a protein treatment. The first wash day of each month i felt like strengthened just didn't, have a place in my routine. When i would use it, i would get so much breakage. I would just notice little hairs all the time deep down. I felt like maybe it's the effigy kind of throwing things off like it's, so strengthening that i don't really need anything else throughout the month. That is going to add a lot more strength. You know like this is my primary source of strengthening right here. The alpha g, so i eliminated strengthen, i have not used strengthen in a long time. Like i said i have so many niche products and i've been going through like the indulge. This is actually almost finished, i'm very proud of myself for using almost finishing the 16 ounce jar, which is not really common for me, because i have fine hair and it just takes me forever to use product, but because i've been using the apogee protein treatment. I'Ve been needing something to balance it out with more moisture, and this is like the number one product that has been doing that for me. So i've been using this deep conditioner a lot and hopefully you guys can see i'm towards the bottom of this 16 ounce jar. So that's like the first thing i started noticing this year now i want to say. Maybe a few weeks ago i received a comment from my mom who you know throughout my natural hair journey she's been super supportive and everything and she's definitely seen my hair go through its stages like when i've had damage when it's looked really healthy when it was Anemic and all that stuff, so yeah she's, seen everything and her comment was that my hair just has not been looking very good that it's been looking dry. It just looks very different from how it used to, and usually she doesn't really comment on my hair. It'S just like whatever, but this comment i was just like hmm interesting. You know because i've been using the effigy protein treatment for like almost a year and that's besides the niche products, but i even used mich before i became a mish ambassador, so i didn't feel like it was the mish products i just felt like it might be Effigy because this is like a product that i've been using for almost a year and it's very different from any other protein treatment that i've used. So i started paying more attention to my hair and i definitely agree. My hair has not been looking as shiny as like it used to in the beginning of this month. I did a protein treatment and i just went ahead and used aphogee, because that's what i've been using all this time, so i just went ahead and used it, but this particular wash day when i used aphogee and i applied it on my hair. My hair felt like straw, okay and typically with effigy when you put on the liquid part step one. It is gon na make your hair feel hard. That'S just what it does, but for some reason, when i put it on this month, my hair felt like brick, like it felt super hard and after i rinsed it out, my hair continuously felt hard, even after i deep conditioned. So i'm, like, i don't understand, like i've, been using all these moisturizing products. I'Ve been avoiding protein left and right. I'Ve been trying to dodge it because apogee just gets my hair so strengthened that there's really no need. Basically, you guys. I have come to the conclusion. This is my my discovery when it comes down to effigy. Yes, it's a good protein treatment, but if your hair is very damaged, high porosity hair is like a spectrum. It'S not just like. Oh, you have high porosity hair everyone's high porosity hair is the same. Absolutely not basically says that this is a protein treatment like if you, you know heat style, your hair, a lot you're coloring it a lot. You are bleaching it and you're doing a lot of like salon services. This is the one to use which makes sense because you're damaging your hair more i'm not doing. All of that. I don't dye my hair, i rarely use like um direct heat on my hair. It was just unnecessary for me to use such a strengthening protein treatment and i think what was happening was. It was just like ruining my hair. Okay, that's what i believe. That'S what i think when you use products that aren't suitable for your hair type. That'S typically! What happens you get damaged? Your hair does not look as good. It'S ruining your hair. I think i've rambled on long enough in this video. I hope i was clear about you know who this product is actually for, why it wasn't for me so moving forward, i'm not using alpha g. That is not my go-to protein treatment anymore. I will more than likely use one of these leave a comment down below just say: hey if you want to all as well. It'S just been extremely busy, but hopefully i will be back to posting. I'M not going to make any promises that every single week, at least for the month of september, that there's going to be a video because it's been a lot going on. But i am going to be posting next sunday for sure and as i try to like figure things out with my hair and like solidify these new products that i've been using or the new routines that i've been doing, then those videos will start will start to Come in as well so that is it for this video. I hope that you all enjoyed. Please give this video a big thumbs up, comment down below and subscribe i'll see you all in the next one bye guys you

Jasmine: I agree that Aphogee is only supposed to be used if your hair is incredibly damaged. It IS a treatment after all, and if you use a treatment as strong as Aphogee when your hair doesn't need it, it's going to be detrimental in the long run because your hair doesn't need it, especially if your natural hair is already insanely healthy.

MrsLegalDiva: Try doing a few moisturizing DCs for the next few weeks. It could just be protein overload. Your hair looks healthy so you don’t need to use Aphogee 2 step very often.

T J: I have never used a true protein treatment like this with my high po hair. I deep condition every week. Most have moisture and strength products. This past week I used a cholesterol treatment and it was great

Lexa K: As others mentioned definitely sounds like you have protein overload. Your hair is already healthy. Aphogee is to be used as needed or as a strength boost. I have fine, high porosity, thick, mid back length hair. My hair loves Aphogee. Only use about every 3 months (1x monthly is too much for our hair). I wouldn't give up on Aphogee as it's a great product. However, I would just limit use on hair to avoid protein overload. I also like to alternate between a moisture and protein deep conditioners every week which has helped my hair tremendously. Your hair still looks amazing and can be saved. Enjoy your content and keep up the great work ❤️

Jenny B: Hey, Afro Khadisiac this hair thing gets tiresome some times so I feel ya pain! Good thing is there's always help around As a fellow high porosity gal, I highly, recommend incorporating a bonding product like Olaplex or Curlsmith's bond curl rehab salve into your washday routine for as long as necessary. Essentially it is a prepoo treatment that works wonders from the get go imo, the curlsmith is a little bit more moisturising so is my personal favourite (but both work well). Would love to see u try it out and give us a little update cos your videos are great and have helped me loads in the past ❤. Good luck

LADY GEM: Aphoghee 2 step protein is not supposed to be used on a monthly basis and should only be used frequently (every 6 weeks) if severely damaged.

Lee Lee: Hey AK!!! Love the hair, its super cute . I never used the 2 step Aphogee, but used the 2 minute reconstructor. It was ok, but I felt it was more moisturizing than protein help for my hair. I watched Sherea Del sol's channel and she was raving about Curl Junkie Repair Me. I looked up the ingredients and Hydrolyzed keratin protein is the 4th ingredient. Maybe try that one. It's supposed to be a really good balance of moisture and protein.

AkelaNoél: Afope Atoyebi has a YouTube video addressing how to fix protein overload that I found to be quite helpful and informative. While the Aphogee 2 Minute Reconstructor was a once every few months staple in my high porosity hair routine, I notice a gravely unfavorable difference in the feel of my after my first and only time using the aphogee two-step protein treatment. Although I have not experienced significant damage, breakage, or changes in texture, I immediately halted the use of all protein after that. It’s been maybe six months, and my hair is feeling more and more “normal” with every passing wash. All that said, thanks so much for the transparency as we’re all learning from and through each other.

Tricia Spencer: I thought I was imagining things when I use Aphogee. It makes my hair feel brittle and I have heat damage. Any alternative recommendations?

Anna: Thank you for sharing this update. I've been using aphogee more in recent months and I've noticed more breakage. I thought it may just be dryness but maybe it's protein overload .

MaxineShaw: I only used this treatment when I was relaxed or heat damaged. It's so annoying to use, I was never tempted to overdo it Their Curlific Texture Treatment in the jar always did well though; maybe that will work for you instead.

Shelby McDanDan: That makes sense- I was always to scared to use this brand and now I’m glad I did after your video. Stay encouraged

Courtney P: Sucks that it didn't work for you. I've used it for 3.5 years on my high porosity hair. I think it failed for you due to improper protein-moisture balance. Specifically, protein overload (aka protein buildup) in your hair (hence that straw feeling). After applying the protein treatment, you shouldn't have deep conditioned. The instructions say only to apply the Balancing Moisturizer (BM), & after leaving it on for 5 minutes with a heated cap, that BM is usually all you need to get the hair treated just right. Deep conditioners also often contain protein in them or too much moisture. And too much moisture being put into the hair after a protein treatment can be disastrous for your hair bonds. When using Aphogee & other protein treatments, I've noticed a lot of people aren't careful about the other products among their stash that may contain protein in them; for example, Moisturizers with protein, shampoos, or products containing Keratin. Keratin is a kind of protein, & although it has its own form of treatment, I find the Aphogee protein treatment to be strong enough & versatile enough on its own to also boost Keratin in the hair. Therefore, I always worry people will use multiple kinds of protein treatments (like Keratin) with Aphogee, which will hurt the hair badly. Since I can't be conscientious of EVERY product I'm using at a time, I clarify my hair once every 2 weeks to avoid buildup of various kinds. I like clarified shampoos (with sodium lauryl sulfate) b/c when done right, it can somewhat reset the hair & prevent buildups (protein, dirt, etc). I wash my hair once every 2 weeks. When I wash it, I clarify once or twice & then follow-up with a moisturizing shampoo & then a deep conditioner. But the trick is paying close attention to your hair. When I first started using Aphogee, I needed to treat my hair once a month like clockwork. As time passed, I noticed my hair only needing treatment once every other month. So you have to be paying close attention to your hair & the products you're using when doing your own treatments. Typically when people struggle with these treatment types, they need a professional to put them on a treatment regimen & to review their product stash, basically so they avoid overloading (imbalancing) their hair bonds. Glad you quit when you noticed the problem.

ELIZABETH: This treatment is too strong. When I understood that I regulated my application by once every 3-4 months. I don't even use the aphogee conditioner, I use a very moinstuzing conditioner of my choice because their conditioner has petrolatum and other ingredients that require sulfates to get rid of.

Bklyn92Baby: I'm glad that you posted this! I literally just started using that aphogee protein treatment 4 weeks ago and I was planning to use it again for my upcoming wash. But maybe I should wait another 2 weeks to avoid something like that from happening. I know another high porosity youtuber and she actually uses it every 6 weeks. I'm 4 weeks in my new natural hair care routine so I don't really know how my hair reacts to things yet. Last month before I started washing my hair weekly, I was flat ironing it so much for job interviews that I think aphogee protein treatment will still be useful for my hair until it's at a healthy state. Plus I'm trimming monthly. Your hair is definitely healthier with they you take care of it so I agree aphogee might be doing more harm than good. Or you could do every 6 weeks instead. Never the less, I'm sure those other products will be more beneficial with the way you want to use it. I wish I could of tried that nothing but intense healing mask! Thanks for sharing your hair journey and I can't wait for more! :)

thepolypoket: I have high porosity and have been using TGIN miracle repair CPR protein treatment and i love it

OhTopangaGee: You have to be very careful with aphogee two step. I only use it every 9-12 months , because it is a HARD protein treatment. It continues to build the structure of your hair even months after doing the treatment. So doing it every month will give you a protein overload. Which will make your hair very brittle, lack luster. Try using a curl bonder (curl smith) if you want a treatment Or a protein conditioner. Wish you luck . Try steaming your hair next deep condition ( not on too high of heat). Your hair looks good! So don’t stress too much. Ignore protein for the next few washs

Dido George: I just started using aphogee protein for my waves and I loved the results. I think maybe because I hard brush for hours a day. This might be for me. But how often should I use it.

1lynnieboo71: Sounds like maybe protein overload or the beginnings of. I have fine high porosity strands so I need protein for my hair too. I have never used Aphoghee...I love Curlsmith's Bond Rehab Salve, which use once every other month. I use a protein/moisture balance hair mask every wash day (which I have a few in my arsenal and I switch often so that my hair does not get used to the same products). Everyone's hair is different of course. I hope you can figure out the best regimen for yours. Good luck!

Wxwxw: When its a 2 phase treatment it probably means phase 1 is alcaline and phase 2 is necessary to balance the ph level. Something alcaline in my opinion will always damage the hair. (Sry if I made any language mistakes)

LunaSolTierra: I have fine high porosity relaxed hair and the first time I used Aphogee it gave me protein overload, I think because I used a product with protein the week before. I then moved to the Aphogee Two minute re-constructor a few months later and I did not have protein overload but my hair still felt dry. I just didn't like the feel of my hair. After I research for a light protein treatment and I love Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Yogurt Hydrate + Repair protein treatment and the Briogio Don't Despair Repair mask. It leaves my hair moisturize and super strong without the protein overload.

Joseph Harris: I find that there's a misconception that High Porosity = Damaged hair and Low Porosity = Healthy hair. I'm Low porosity and Protein sensitive and you're basically experiencing what I experience when even use small amounts of protein. A lot of Low porosity people have this same realization after using too much heat, steam, deep conditioning too long etc and likewise High Porosity people have the realization after getting dull / hard hair using too much Protein and Sealants - The healthiest state is more of a "balance" and we have to figure out which products nudge us towards the medium porosity.

Lakacia Lloyd: I’ve never used Aphogee 2-step, but those type of liquid pure protein products (I used to use Neutral Protein Filler from Sally’s) are better, for me, if I just add a bit of them to my regular deep conditioners. I’ve never had protein overload when doing this. Now, I usually just keep balancing conditioners in the rotation. My hair is virgin and I never really do anything to it (no color and barely any heat), so it’s not damaged enough for those pure protein treatments straight.

Syddin Pretty: Also, just because you're not straightening and chemically processing your hair doesn't mean you're not damaging your hair. Wash n gos are VERY damaging to the hair shaft. And they actually further increase the hair's porosity for many.

Joy Deja King: She looks SO pretty in this video and LOVE that hairstyle on her

1922mistyblue: I’ve never liked the ingredients in Aphogee but I tried it once and I knew immediately I was going to have a set back.

Moyin: I know a lot of comments have already mentioned this but I just wanted to add - most natural hair professionals I've seen have mentioned that aphogee is too strong (and as someone else already mentioned, only for incredibly damaged hair) and regular deep conditioners have enough protein for upkeep (they even mention that opting for protein treatments in general will ruin hair that doesn't need it). What I really wanted to add was that deep conditioning with moisture only softens the hair (from what I know, the moisture "binds" to the protein) but it doesn't get rid of the protein. Since protein forms a "protective" barrier around the hair what you may need is more shampooing. Maybe also consider clarifying more often (obviously not weekly but just increasing the frequency) and using an all-purpose shampoo before a moisturizing one.

franny pie.: unrelated but girl your brows look so good!! lol

curli-lettey: It could be overload OR theres some products you are using that have a protein treatment effect on your hair making it strong and the aphogee is possibly giving more protein on your strands.

Annette Samuels-Davis: Oh wow , I've never used it before! So Sorry! Love earrings Miche great products

Ksenia Galina: i have very fine thin HP hair but after i use apoghee i find that i cannot use any protein heavy products at all (conditioners stylers) just makes my hair very flat and straw like. i do apoghee like every 2|3 months and i introduce protein conditioners 1,5 months after the initial protein treatment (kinda when protein from treatment almost is completely washed out ) also i leave by the seaside and we swim and wet our hair daily so i find apoghee easy to use as salty water and sun tends to increase porosity and dry hair out. but if u take such good care of ur hair i wouldnt use it so often ( may be when all other protein conditioners and stylers no longer perform as they normally do) love your content as usual!❤

ClassicBeauty: The two step treatment is very strong, the two minute one is better. Try that

Syddin Pretty: Firstly, porosity Is not a hair type. If your hair is on either extreme of the porosity spectrum, it's an indication of an imbalance in protein moisture. This product must be used with a PROPER deep conditioner. That is going to include SILICONES. Also, you MUST deep condition WITH HEAT. The issue is, respectfully, most consumers are ridiculously misinformed when it comes to hair. If you have no true understanding of what it is/what it needs, you will never truly develop a regimen that works. And I know you are an ambassador, but it MIGHT just be that conditioner ‍♀‍♀‍♀‍♀ Also, The moisturizer for the apogee two step is trash.

Wendy PΩΩh: Hey AK they started mixing up the white and purple bottles...so I used the conditioner first bc it has the protein ...smdh

Sophia Reinbergs: Hi khad I believe you over use the aphofee. Your hair is not damaged. I am typing on a phone so I can't elaborate, sorry. I still loved you. Bye

Williams J: Great video. You look beautiful. Have you used the Botanika?

Chalsey Wilder: Hopefully it's just an overload of protein

BaekhyunFanEndedByLip bite: That’s awful

Myrna J: Oh no I hope not..

God’s Precious: I see the difference in the pictures

Denesha Raymond: We should just stick with our ors
