Hey everyone kaylee your friendly neighborhood hairstylist here and today i am joined by anna lara cause today, we're gon na find out whether her hair is actually curly. This should be fun, i'm so excited about this. Actually, i really think my hair is curly. Tick. Tock has convinced me, i have been inundated with the whole like multiple different audios than with people reposting it where people are like. I think my hair is curly, so i did x y and z and then they see their results and it's always surprising yeah, and i know that you've got a curl right like these baby hairs. Curly cue, very well and like flashback to that video. We did. The natural curls, when we did that with playa, i was surprised then, because i styled it to the best of my ability at that time to be curly. But now we have just like fully dove in and i also feel like there's a lot more information out there on curly hair styling. Now, when i used to look a couple years ago, even when i got my curly wig a few years ago, i was looking for information and i did not find the wealth that there is now. We love that i actually now feel overwhelmed by information and we're going to be just kind of like testing and seeing what does work yeah. So this is actually not just a video where we're playing around. With kind of this urge that we got from tick tock right, but also it's kind of the beginning of you trying to go on a curly hair journey yep. So i'm gon na be learning she's gon na be learning. We can update you guys if you're interested comment down below, let us know um, but that being said, i think it's time to jump into today's first start to the curly hair journey. It starts today with my two week, dirty hair, what it's like at a week and a half we'll give you some clarifying shampoo, okay, cool. This is not normally the routine. I would have for you in the shower, but i'm saying clarifying shampoo, okay, moisturizing, conditioner, okay and then come see me after and we'll start on. Camera. Okay sounds good, oh and before you do that i have a strange request. Okay, can you grab a couple of your hairs, whether they like come out when you take your ponytail down or if you just like a couple and we're gon na, do a little porosity and elasticity test on them at the end and then in a month or Two, when we check in again we're gon na, do the same test and see if the curly girl method changed anything for your hair. Do you mean like pulling my hair out? I mean like one or two. You want me to pull my hair. I want a loose hair. Yeah, it's been awesome, yeah yeah hairs will come out actually just collect your loose hairs. We'Re just gon na. Do some science with them. It'S fine, we'll see if we can find one one. Second, you love those pro hair ties. Oh, my gosh, i do oh look. Oh perfect science, one and two wow, so many test subjects all right. I feel like you have enough time. I have enough all right girl go watch that her um. Can we just like address the fact that you're tanner than me right now and mine is natural? I guess take that hair down, i scrubbed the heck out of my scalp. I'M gon na go ahead and say it. I have been doing a ton of online research. Maine'S by mel, the welshy girl, like a bunch of other people, have been feeding my knowledge. I will put it all in the description box. I'M gon na be really really honest. I did not get taught how to specifically style curly hair in cosmetology school, and that is wrong, and i thought it was just my school because my school was anyway um. But ever since you know the movement of the past couple months has come about. People have been talking more and no, like schools aren't teaching that so from what i've learned on the interwebs. The first thing that i do know about curly hair is that unless you're about to wash it, you don't want to brush it dry. Okay, so we do want to make sure that we do all the brushing you're going to do on it, while your hair is quite wet if it starts to dry out during that process, we're going to reapply water, okay, cool, all that kind of sounds good, and So then, i'm going somewhat off of the tick tock audio trend of like i thought my hair would be curly. So i used this and i did this and i'm going slightly off of that mixed with a mains by mel video which i will link down below. So we're going to start with a detangling, slash, leave-in, conditioner sweet. I thought this one would be a good one: the kristen s fragrance-free detangling tonic. She has even said on her instagram that this is the exact same as her leave-in treatment, just without the fragrance. It'S also without silicones, so overall just a little bit nicer. So in uh, the mains by mel video, there was like application and brushing it through, although you're in the detangling stage. So let me grab you a detangling brush, okay, we're going to spray and detangle! Yes! Do you want to do half an idea sure you know like all the same basic information? That'S always true start at the ends. Work your way up so another thing that i know thanks to my compulsive curly hair video watching, is that the way that you brush your hair when you're applying products and stuff matters? I don't know when to integrate that. I don't know if it matters most like the last product that you apply or like every product that you apply. It'S so odd to me, i'm assuming that this is just for detangling and adding in your leave-in yeah. I feel like once we can get it detangled then i can like turn upside down and stuff and we can free the root. But right now i feel like it's more about just getting her detangled we'll go with that for today. Anyways yeah today is we're taking everything that i have compulsively watched and we're trying it for the first time on her hair, and then we will check in as we kind of figure out new, better methods, that's the goal. So if you have been through this journey - and you have tips for me - us please let us know - keep the conversation going in the comments down below. We will be reading it all right. I actually detangled very easily yeah all right. So the next thing that i got from that mains by mail video is that they did like a curling cream, and i think that you decide that, based on what's going on with your hair, whether you need like protein moisture, frizz control, curl definition. So i thought today we would start with a nice easy one. Okay, that is the miss jessie's, quick curls. You guys know that i'm a big, miss jessie's fan because i use her jelly soft curls all the time. It'S a lightweight kind of custardy cream, all right. So i'm just gon na do what mel and her sister did. I loved that video because it was the two sisters together now we're the two sisters together. I love it all right. I guess this is like prayer hands, but they applied one round to the whole head and then they sectioned and applied more. So this is like the overall and then you're gon na section, your hair, so we don't have a denman brush. Although i have ordered a couple, so i thought we could use this um paddle brush okay and i'm going to apply this to your section, i'm just going to rake it through. I can still feel it on my fingers, so i'm just combing it through getting it in there mel said not to put too much on your roots so that it doesn't weigh them down. Okay, so i got kind of close, but then i stopped myself all right and then she brushed her hair out to the side. Oh sorry, like encouraged it to do its thing. I know that one of the things that people say it does when you brush it out to the side like that, is that it helps with volume. So that's one of the reasons that i'm doing it. I'Ve also seen mel talk about in one of her videos that it's good to kind of use. It like you're curling a ribbon with scissors to use the edge of the brush. I'M interested to see where my hair falls on the spectrum. I think if i had to guess you're going to be 2b, maybe 2c, but it would be really cool if we can get you up to 3a and take down the second side over here, because i'm impatient i'm just curling my ribbons over here. That'S a really good, um visual. Thank you mel. All right, i'm going to try doing what mel did over here, where she like brushed it forward. This is for volume, we'll see how that goes too much. I don't usually need help with volume. You know what my name is: kaylee melissa and my quest is volume. Your quest is the most i've discovered in all my viewings that, like the way that you brush your hair and apply it, products is basically the key styling moment. I had no idea so i have like literally one way i brush my hair. I know i have one way i apply my products and there's like prayer hands and raking and glazing, and i'm like what the actual i don't know what any of this means. I have so much to learn, but it's about time. You know it's about time as a hair stylist. I know how to do this. I'M a very uh tactical learner, so i'm excited that we're just like learning on my hair yeah, it's true there's only so much you can do without actually doing it. Yeah you have some cool little lift going on here, yay all right. Let me grab the water spray bottle real, quick! Okay, can we scrunch it yet sorry? I just did yeah. I think you can scrun. I i think. That'S okay, we're gon na! Do it when she was scrunching, it there's literally water coming out of her fingers. The girl who likes to do the super wet yeah yeah. Well, i like her results, so i'm trying to do that too. She'S, a big proponent of like super super wet styling, so we're adding water now keep spraying. Oh wow like i can. I can see a curl starting yay all right. This camera angle might not be like the cutest because we're trying to capture what's happening here. Wow, i see a wave now we've got the amiga curl core, enhancing gel right, rub it between the hands. So i definitely want you to have enough gel to be able to create a cast. I think i have enough. Oh, my god. This is giving such flashbacks to middle school, so you want to make sure that you're also grabbing from the middle of the hair and getting it up towards your roots. There you go but yeah i used to scrunch in so much product. I believe that it's not crusty, it wasn't enough. There was a david curl or diva curl training at ulta one time, and i was pretending to be so interested in all the products near there just trying to listen in to like what are they teaching well. One of the things they said is that you, like you, can't be afraid to just like get in there. So that's what i'm trying to do, i'm trying to like manhandle your hair here, all right cool and now we plop. I think i'm just going to help you apply. Okay, i think we can do it with this yeah. That'S a big old towel. So now you plop and let some water evaporate for a while. Okay, i mean hypothetically for following along at home. You can do this anywhere from 20 minutes to a couple hours, and then i saw some people do it overnight too yeah totally up to you. I'M gon na probably do like 30ish minutes and then come back and hit it with a hair. Dryer yay sounds good. I'M excited yeah, all right, we'll be back bye and we're back. The plot has fully matured. We have a mature plop, let's let her down. I want to do it, i'm so excited to see this thing. You were just telling me you used to do this with a beanie in my head. Yes, no middle school. Okay, i would take a beanie, i would turn upside down and i would do the plop with it. I just like leave it in this big old beanie for a while. So i didn't even know what i was doing, but i was doing the plop. Oh okay, okay, all right, alrighty! Well, look! Look! It'S like a it's like a wave yeah! I think we're supposed to cover diffuse and then scrunch once the cast starts to form. Okay wow, so i didn't realize that mel created the hover diffuse, but you basically just hover with the diffuser. I'M just gon na help you with this, because you know you're my guinea pig. So far. We have got it partially, like a lot of the way dry. It'S not totally there yet right, but uh mel said that you wanted to start creating the cast with the hover and the cast is when the gel starts to get crusty and holds the hair into place. And then you can start to use your diffuser to go up and scrunch, and my personal opinion around like using the diffuser to scrunch you like go up. I think it's good to hold it there. Rather than like going up and down and up and down and up and down yeah, so i would do that over a few sections until you get dry and probably take the heat down, because it'll just be uncomfortable to do it all the way up, all right, How'S it feeling it feels pretty dry. I think it feels good. You want to flip her over. Oh, my god. What? Where? How? When what in the world do you want to go with a deeper side? Part yeah? Maybe so don't use the finger at the root. Pick up curls and move them over reassign you to that side. All right! Try that wow whoa! I just can't believe that i had this much curl in there me. Neither. This is our first time trying it like you're gon na get better at it. Holy guacamole girl, that's your hair! I am curly, oh my god, i'm so shocked. I feel like. I need to look up the curl types to see what i am yeah, because i feel like it hasn't quite gotten into ringlet, yet, which is when you get into the three categories, so you're, probably like a 2c which is right between like wavy curly. Oh, i think he might be able to get to a c. That'S exciting. This marks the first day of my curly journey wow, i mean i brought some ghost oil to put through your hair. I don't know that you really need it. That'S probably a good idea, though: okay, let's try it uh-huh yeah, just scrunch her in, i think. Oh, we don't rake. Now we scrunch or we pray our hands. Both squats feel confident in scrunching. The reason that i told anna laura to just move curls over instead of making a part and flipping it is because you don't want to disrupt the curls. You don't want to pull them apart, because that's going to make them a little bit. Poofier and frizzier. You want to keep them together as much as possible they're happiest in their family units. I guess the other thing we could do is like you could try and do like a little picking action here just to like loosen up the room, oh see, if that helps them with the volume and like the faces that are missing it you're, not using heat. Now, but this is where our uh faux natural waves with a curling iron could come in and just touch up a couple, little areas if you wanted to in 30 days when i'm about to use heat again right lean over to the side i'll see. If i can do it, i don't know if i've actually picked hair before oh and that's on my cosmetology school education not being comprehensive enough. Oh yeah, i feel like that made a big difference. Oh yeah, because it's less very different. I think from what i understand and i'm gon na continue to educate myself. It really is just getting in there and for tighter girls. You could be doing this number and it would really be like eating out the hair and for you i think it just helps to break up the curls at the root without breaking up the beautiful cast and wave that we've created beautiful. Being relative, i'm really hoping that in a couple months i can look back on this video and be like oh i've learned so much. I do. I definitely feel like a newbie here and again. If you guys know better than us, or you know other people, we should check out, tell us in the comments down below, because i really do want to get better at this. As a hair stylist, i want to be able to style all types of hair, and then you know just for anna's journey. I think we could use it too help me. Ah i love it. I got ta step back a little. These are like true beachy waves. Yeah yeah: this is like you remember when ocean's whatever was coming up and sandra bullock's character had her like natural wave kind of looks like that. It does it's very similar, oh my god, wow i'm mad at this, but also really proud, so excited. I really had a feeling there was going to be curl in there, but i didn't think it would look this good, the first time yeah yeah, because that's the other thing is that curls, i think, are half care and half styling, if not like 70 percent care And 40 no 30 percent styling. I do hair, not math. What'S my plan for the next week here well, first of all, i think we have to say your hair is curly, slash, wavy yay. I was really worried. We'Re gon na do all this and it was gon na be like very happy that this worked. So i will uh send you some videos. I'Ve seen things on sleeping with curly hair, where it's like, and you know, curly's kind of relative right. Obviously, there are much tighter curls, yes, we're just gon na keep saying curly, because it feels validating right now: satin, pillowcase, satin, scrunchies or anything like that - can be really helpful, like putting your hair up on top of your head. Okay, these are things that i have read and not done so. Okay feel free to be my guinea pig, typically spritzing, with a little bit of water and re-scrunching okay, either with like a gel or an oil or mixing them together, and doing that. I can actually give you the kristen s, signature water, to take home and see because that's what she made it for okay, yeah and then just see how many days it's it's a journey. How long i can go yeah all right! All righty! I didn't have any glasses that were completely clear, except for wine glasses, so the float test is what we're going to do to test her hair's porosity, hair science. So the test is that you put it in to the water, i'm just going to try to get it all in there. Like all breaking the surface of the water, at least all right does it float? Does it go to the middle? Does it go to the bottom? She looks to be a floater, it's just stuck on the surface of the water. I'M gon na get one more piece just to make sure here we go that helps stirring the surface tension. I don't know if you can see it. It'S pretty much chilling right in the middle, though see they're all hovering right right around here. Oh there you go, you can see it yay science. Let me pull out my phone. It has all the stuff on it to check my notes with it's like a magnifying glass of my hair, so medium porosity, hair, basically, is what you have. You have medium hair. Some areas seem to be high porosity and most of it seems to be medium porosity, which seems about right for you. So what we're looking for here is to see whether the cuticle is still intact, the more intact the cuticle is the less porosity the hair has. So basically the closer it is to the top, the healthier the closer to the bottom, the less healthy because of anna's hair type, because annalaura has kind of a wavier caucasian texture. That typically is made with a little bit more intact, cuticle, the more curly your hair. Typically, the more: what are you doing? The dark part is floating. I was trying to figure out which color is floating, so so the non-bleached part is on the top and then down here is the more damaged hair. Isn'T that interesting? That'S science! That'S what i was. I was just checking that you should take that away from me, so, where it was saying, was more curly. Hair textures tend to actually come out of the head with a more open cuticle, which is why curly hair has the reputation for needing more moisture and really like absorbing moisture. Well because it's a more open, spongy texture, basically spongy a little bit of an exaggeration, but because it's more open the interior sponge, the cortex of the hair, is exposed and it up the moisture the fun part about. That is that, then, you were constantly trying to balance your moisture like the fat and lipids in your hair and the protein in your hair and there's definitely more information out there that i'm still learning about yeah as to what more protein or more moisture does to Your curls, but there's a lot of pictures of it on instagram, so i'm gon na again check out the concept link below but yeah interesting. The next thing i wanted to adjust is the elasticity of your hair. Oh that's fun! How are we gon na? Do that? So, basically, you have the wet hair and you stretch it and when it stretches and boings back you're good when it stretches super far and doesn't come back it's low in protein when it just breaks like that, it's low in protein and moisture, lower moisture also breaks. Let'S see what happens so we need to wet these. Do you mind spraying them for me? So now, let's see how the stretch does got here got it here. I can't get a good grip on it. Ah, and then i lost the hairs. Oh wow, your hair has really good elasticity. I stretched it and look. Oh, it pulls back yeah. Now, typically it comes back to about. I forget to 125 of what it was. So you get like 25 stretch. Basically, oh yeah, you can see it come back together. She'S springy, okay, so anna laura really does take good care of her hair she's, very careful with it. So this is a testicle. All that work you've been doing. You guys know i sneak in that heat protectant. All the time protect your hair. You know what i think this was great. I'M satisfied with these results. I am really excited to keep working on this and learning some more. Please in the comments, let me know any tips and tricks that you have. You guys turned me on to maine my mouth. So that was already, but let's keep it going. Let'S do it i'll keep checking in with you guys i'll, definitely keep reading your comments and trying out any suggestions you have for me, but i'm really into it. I kind of want to like test my hair. Now it's not as wavy as yours, but like maybe it can do something i don't know, maybe maybe that's exciting, but yeah. If you guys enjoyed today's video, don't forget to hit that like button to help support the channel and, if you're new, here, click that subscribe button to join the braided hog family here on kaylee melissa and all y'all can hit that bell icon to be notified. Every time i post a new video, and that is it for today, whether you're, old or new, or a casual lurker. Thank you for spending time with us and i'll see you in the next video bye. You put my hair in a tupperware. Do you know how much hair is in this room? If this floated away, i would never be able to find it again amongst the rest of the hair. If christine can have a freaking peely bag, i can have a temporary gladwear

Tracy: Beware of curl envy! Curlier isn’t better, it’s just different. Wavies like me can be prone to wanting our hair to be curly when it’s just not. Certainly encourage your waves or curls to be all they can be but embrace what YOUR hair wants to be. And that float porosity test is notoriously inaccurate - don’t bother, just do the stretch test.

Victoria Johnson: As an extremely curly haired little girl in the 90s/early 2000s, I can attest: NO hairstylist was trained on styling curly hair. My hair was my biggest insecurity and I left every haircut crying because no one could make my hair “pretty.” It was always just frizzy, puffy and huge and I thought I just had bad hair. It wasn’t until my 20s when I started researching on the internet (and even tried the CG method!) that I realized all the hairstylists I went to just didn’t know how to work with my super thick super curly mane.

Nicole Thurston: Scrunch the products in rather than brush! Using a wide tooth comb is also way better, even when wet. A paddle brush will flatten the curl pattern

Madison Robitaille: I started my "curly hair journey" 2 years ago and my biggest tip is to be patient with your hair and don't compare it to other people's curls your hair will become more used to the process and in time may become curlier. Also have fun with it! (I have 2b/2c waves)

The Kazoo Queen: I hope this means we'll get more curly/wavy hair style tutorials! For Anna Laura-- every curly hair is different, so experiment with methods. Shorter hair = more defined curls. Sometimes scrunching/messing with it too much as it dries will break up curls and create a frizzy mass, which is why I let it air dry overnight as I sleep! I kinda just scrunch it up above my head on the pillow and wake up with big, loose ringlets. Keep in mind that "curly hair" is a big spectrum and what works for the very curly girls doesn't necessarily work on wavier hair.

Chrissy Hanson: DO NOT USE DIVA CURL PRODUCTS from a curly girl who's hair was murdered by Diva Curl.

Linda S: I personally have the best success combing my hair in the shower and not putting any kind of brush or comb through it once I'm out

Krista Raymond: I love how open you are to learning! It’s refreshing to see professionals recognize the gaps in their training and want to expand their expertise!

Michelle Morelos: My mom has curly hair and she has such a hard time finding a hairstylist who can cut and handle her hair correctly. Also, I just started playing around with my hair and I think I have a wave. I would love it if you touched on looser waves like 2A/2B and how to get on a WAVY hair journey versus curly. Lol.

Abby Thompson: Depending on the products, styling, and environmental factors my hair ranges from a 2c to a 3b. There are a few big things I’ve found helpful to keep it in the 3 range. First, I only brush my hair with an actual brush in the shower. When I’m out, I use a wide tooth comb. Even though my hair is still wet, using the brush brakes up my hair a lot more and it curls in much smaller wavy sections rather than bigger curly sections I get with the comb. I also comb it while upside down. I find that it helps my roots curl and I get more volume. Second, I make sure that when ever I’m working with my hair it’s wet enough to have the “squish” sound. Then when I’m done I scrunch my hair with a microfiber towel to get a lot of the water out that would weigh down my hair while drying. Last, my hairs a similar length to AnnaLaura’s and when I use the diffuser it sometimes creates a little bit of a weird curl pattern that doesn’t match what would happen if it air drys. When I have time I let it air dry but scrunch it without any producer about every 5ish minutes. I really hope this is helpful! Y’all have saved my hairs life so many times that I can never truly pay you back but at least this is something! Thank you so much for all your videos and positive energy!

Avery McDowell: I really wanna see Kayley do the curly girl method now to see how her hair turns out

Student on a Budget: Anyone else a curly head who loves watching other people discover that they have waves/curls?

Anna-Lena Kufner: I started the curly girl method about 3 months ago (and mel is one of my favourites). I have a very similar pattern to anna-laura (2b-2c, on good days 3a). Just some tips for more wavy than curly hair: raiking/ finger coiling does not work for me because i dont have enough of a wave. I look just like anna-laura without it (just saves time). I like my hair better when refreshing it the first time (only some water). I am a rough sleeper and havent found a good way to protect my hair. I just live with some of the frizz. product recommendation: cantu curl activating cream (mel's sister loves it as well ;)) Most usefull tip for me: love your hair and dont give up. Everyone has a bad hair day, just put your hair up. And dont be too religious about some of the curly girl rules

CanadianChick: The thing that helps me most with keeping my natural 2C-3A curl is rinsing with cool/cold water and not touching my hair if I'm letting it dry naturally after I apply product and scrunch. Just let it do it's thing. The cool water helps to avoid frizz. My hair was completely straight when I was a kid but got curly like my mom's after puberty, so it is possible she might just not have "found the curl" yet. Good luck!

Rachel Stirling: We have the same curl type, 2b/2c I have helped dozens of friends go curly! Penny tovar and India batson were what got me into curly hair styling. With our curl type, follow India's sitting rule of no brushing. Plopping can work, but I find i don't like it with my hair type. Try these products: -Love Beauty and planets salt spray -Not your mother's curl talk line (any of these products!) -Cantu curl activator cream -Shea moisture yogurt leave in conditioner and protein treatment Those have worked for me. Some of them even give me ringlets! Good luck and have fun!:-)

Rachelle G: As a curly haired gal, it’s disappointing that our hairs aren’t taught in school- but it makes a lot of sense now. The amount of haircuts that look horrible when my hair is natural etc. and if I ever ask them to style my hair curly out of the salon I always hate it lol

Mel F: I already loved the salon I went to, but when all of the stylists were required to do curly hair training I knew I'd never leave them. It's so refreshing when salons keep their stylists educated on how to style all kinds of hair! So it's nice to see influencers doing the same to make us curly haired gals feel included

Kaitlyn Cook: Get a wet brush and DETANGLE YOUR HAIR IN THE SHOWER WITH CONDITIONER IN IT! Works so great for transitioning AND looser waves.

Laura Benito: During all the video I was like "WATER, we need more WATER"

b_lilla_t: You two are definetely the friendliest, kindest people on YouTube! I feel like you are my sisters Thank you so much for all of your videos and kindness! ♥️ And Anna Laura's hair looks unbelievable!

Arti Sharma: I've been on my journey for a year & I have some tips for you guys! Always detangle in the shower if you have wavy curly 2b hair, which AnnaLaura seems to have currently. Otherwise you brush out your curls & lose your clumps. Using a wide tooth comb usually works better, helps with clumping. Do not use a detangling brush in place of a Denman brush! They do not have the same purpose. Denman defines curls. Please do not plop overnight. Too much moisture can lead to bad bacteria on your scalp. 20 mins is fine. Flip your head upside down & break your curls at the root :) "fluff" it out! My routine- Wash/condition right side up, comb when hair has conditioner in it. Out of shower- hair is dripping wet. Part hair gently. Try not to break any clumps. Scrunch in curl cream, volumizing mousse/foam, gel, & then mouss/foam again. Plop 20 min. Gently part any large clumps. Hover diffuse. Let cast stay hard for 30 mins-1 hr before breaking/fluffing with oil. SwavyCurlyCourtney is another amazing YouTuber to learn from. Manes by Mel does a video on the porosity test. Check it out! Check out DevaCurl, Zotos All About Curls, MopTop, CurlSmith, and Not Your Mother's. :)

Alison London-Pusser: As a curly girl, I truly appreciate you learning how to style ALL types of hair!!!!!

Erin Noelle: You guys did such a great job for the first time and got beautiful results! I’m so excited to see how the journey goes. Here’s what alterations to the routine I would suggest based on what I’ve learned from my time in the curly hair community: 1: I would detangle in the shower with conditioner and either a wide tooth comb or just your fingers. This’ll help to decrease the damage you might get from brushing wet hair and it’ll prep you for my next suggestion. 2: Apply your products in the shower to soaking wet hair. Like, dripping all over the place hair. That’ll help the product to be evenly distributed, the hair to retain moisture, and the waves to clump together and form! 3: For a loose wavy texture like this, I probably wouldn’t recommend a denman brush. To apply product, I’d just use your fingers to smooth, rake, and then scrunch it in. With wavy hair, brushing the product in could potentially stretch out the wave, which is why I suggest this. 4: Apply product with your head upside down or tilted to one side and then the other. This will help you achieve the root volume you were after without brushing through the hair. 5: Adding water is great, but you could probably add even more! You’ll know you have enough if the hair makes a “squishy” noise when you scrunch it and water squeezes out. 6: I’m unsure if you were doing this when diffusing, but I’ve found it helps a lot to scrunch the hair into the diffuser with it off, then turn it on when it’s in place, and then turn it off to remove it. This has really helped me with frizz and decreasing weirdly shaped curls since hair isn’t flying everywhere as I’m trying to scrunch. 7: Don’t be afraid to mess it up a little at the end! Flip your head over, get your fingers in the roots, and shake it out. I find this does wonders to create a more natural and less stiff look as well as achieve volume and break up the too-big curl clumps. Hope some of this is helpful! Of course, different things work for different people and the best thing you can do is experiment to see what works best for you. Good luck on your curly journey! It’s a fun one

Julianne Miner: I binge-watched a whole bunch of Swavy Curly Courtney on YouTube. I just started my curly hair journey 3 weeks ago with info I got from her. Agreed with other commenters... Brush hair in the shower after conditioner has been sitting in it for a couple minutes. Scrunch in your gel in the shower with sopping wet hair. I am too lazy to diffuse so I just squeeze out some moisture with microfiber towel then air dry and then "scrunch the crunch out". On second day hair I spritz with lots of water to reactivate the gel and scrunch again.

Amanda Manning: One of my daughters has wavy hair, and I have pin straight, so thank you so much for doing this! I have so much to learn on how to care for her hair. She is 2 so I know she wouldn't sit through this whole process, but knowing what to do when she is older is super useful.

Norma Lee: As someone with a healthy mix of 2c and 3a curls, I can say that some of her pieces are probably more of a 2b than a 2c, and my tips would be: 1, always style with your hair VERY wet. It should sound smushy. 2, don't brush your hair after your hair gets damp, unless it's soaking don't brush it, and brush it the least amount possible! 3, listen to your hair. Curl envy is a huge thing, but your hair is beautiful. Try to embrace what your hair is wanting to do.

lulumakeupme: Hi ! I'm a french curly girl for over a year now and I have some types for you ! First, even if ManesByMel gives very good advice, I would recommend you to watch more wavy girl. For example, I really love Swavy Curly Courtney because she really shows how much product she applies and how she applies it. IndiaBatson is really good for wavy hair too (her hair is soooo gorgeous) ! You have to test every techniques to find which one is the best ! And the most important lesson that I have learn is that you don't have to be afraid to put A LOT of gel and product in the hair ! I hope that AnnaLaura is going to become a curly girl ! That is one of the best thing that happen to me : to finally understand that my hair is curly and not just a mess that I can't handle PS : I love your videos and that is the first time in the 6 years that I follow you that I post a comment !

Erin Anderson: So excited to see this! I've only put heat on my hair twice this year and am trying to work with my natural wave. According to the curly hair "rules," no silicones allowed, right? But my hair is so much happier with silicones on it. I'd love to hear more about products as you guys try them.

Samantha Leinberger: Welcome to the curly/wavy community! We’re happy to have you! What works for me (2b/c waves): - squish to condish. It sounds funny but when you put conditioner in your hair make sure to scrunch it and add ample water until it makes a squish noise - apply all products in the shower while your hair is sopping wet - an old t-shirt works better for me than a microfiber towel

Lisa R: I *NEED* a Kayley Melissa + Manes by Mell seester collab video! Two of my favorite YouTubers in one place would make my year. AnnaLaura's hair will only get curlier with time. I can't wait to see the evolution and your continued education! Check out Mell's protein vs moisture video to learn how to test for porosity. The float test isn't very accurate. Also, a tip: don't touch the curls so much once you've got the gel in. You want to form a really good cast, and touching it too much can cause frizz. Mell says to keep yo' dirty hands out while drying!

Wavy Curly Ria: I’ve been following your channel since I was in middle school (now in my mid 20’s) and I’m so glad you’re finally branching out into curly hair!! For the porosity water test, it’s not very accurate so don’t take the results too seriously. I would recommend just seeing how quickly her hair takes in water and that should give you a more accurate result~ also, some of the products you used aren’t technically CGM approved, but if y’all are okay using sulfates and silicones then go for it!! Can’t wait to see more curly hair content

Bella Zielinski: I love watching swavy wavy Courtney she helps so much!!! The weter the hair when styling the better!

Meghan McGowan: So excited to see this! I let my hair go curly almost ten years ago, best decision I ever made. Something I'm you both will learn going forward is that there's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all curly routine, and a curly journey is a lot about getting to know your hair. It'll just be trial and error to find what works for you and fits your lifestyle, and the more familiar you get with your hair, the better you'll become at judging what will probably work without trying it (for example, I know that my hair prefers a gel that sets pretty hard and stiff, and a gel with a softer cast just won't give me the results I want). I've always loved this channel because I like doing new and exciting things with my hair, and over ten years I've gotten pretty good at adapting some straight styles for curly hair, but it's not always doable. I really hope you do more curly content going forward!!!

Fabiola Del Toro: I’ve been watching since the green screen and since then been on my own curly hair journey! Hearing you use curly words and wanting to learn more about it makes me so happy! ☺️ It’s called a journey for a reason! Trust the process!

Bex: As someone who started her curly/wavy hair journey this year, I was very excited to see this video! congrats on beginning your journey AnnaLaura! And I think it's great Kayley that you are educating yourself where your training left gaps in curly hair knowledge. I would say one tip I have is to try brushing your hair only once - either before you shower or in the shower to detangle. I've found that for my wavier hair texture, brushing the product through my hair when damp after the shower tends to lead to looser waves (which is a beautiful look! but not always what I'm going for)

Lily Castle: I literally started just going down this same journey this month! So glad to see you guys testing it out. I'm learning documenting everything is super helpful and like knowing which products should have protein, moisture, and glycerin. There's a whole science to learn to take care of curly/wavy hair. Thanks for sharing!

littlemissprickles: I really love your candidness and integrity! Taking care of curly hair is a learning process all the way, and it's nice to see other people in the beginning stages of learning too. And love the credit you gave to other channels. Manes by Mel is the best!

Borism: For specifically waves, curly Swavy Courtney shares so many tips in a perfect amount of time.

Lexi: I’m so proud that stylists are starting to learn about how to style curly hair. Every time I go to get my hair bleached or cut my hair dresser blow drys then straightens my hair because she doesn’t know how to style my hair without frizz. You should be learning how to take care of your hair the best from your hair stylist and I don’t get that from mine

Emily S: Kayley and Anna Laura- I love you guys so much!! I just started treating my hair as “curly” about a year ago and I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface of all the techniques and products there are popping up for curlies recently!! I would love to see in your videos a comparison of what Anna’s curls look like from different products, techniques, and orders of products, and what the pros and cons are for each! You guys are amazing and I’m so excited to follow along with this journey!!!!

Juli D. Revezzo: Thank you for this. It's nice to find a "curly girl" experiment on someone with such long hair. Many curly bloggers usually only have shoulder length to shoulder blade length hair. And I second the recommendation for Swavy Curly Courtney. I've learned a lot from her for 2a/2b hair.

Emily Altheuser: This is so fun! I'm almost 2 months into my curly hair journey, and it is so easy to get completely overwhelmed with all of the information and products and styling techniques! BUT I kept watching tutorials (ManesbyMel, MsBiancaRenee, and CurlySusie are some of my faves) and slowly but surely I'm seeing real results.

L Bebko: This is great! I have a really similar hair texture to Anna’s and there aren’t many videos aimed at this kind of more than wavy but not quite really curly hair. I’m so excited to see more videos about what works and doesn’t for your hair! Especially how you keep it looking good beyond day 1, that’s been my major concern. Would love to see how you handle hair that varies in texture. For example my bottom layers and my hairline are WAY curlier than my top layers of hair. So excited to see how your hair journey turns out and keep representing for those of us who wash less than once a week

Megan Banks: Thank you so much on doing videos on this! I’m currently just starting my own curly girl journey, so seeing someone else start out is so helpful!! Would love to see more videos documenting her journey and what she tries!

Catherine Callan: ❤️ Love this girls I was just like you thought I had frizzy straight ish hair, and then after finding the Curl Community, discovered after a few months of reduced heat and refining styling method I have 2c/3a hair based on the chart you used in this video and now I love my natural hair keep trialing what works best for your hair, I have similar hair by what I can see, so try as much light weight products and avoid heavy creams or use minuscule amounts of cream, also hair mask or deep conditioner will be your best friend

Ashli Buts: Here’s what I’ve learned on my journey of wavy hair! I watch Mel all the time but our hair types are very different - wavy hair looses its pattern much easier. The key is to keep your hair veryyyy wet. Here’s my routine: 1) wash hair in shower as needed 2) brush hair in shower while hair is still very wet (I keep my leave in in the shower, I put it in my hair as the last in shower product before I brush it so my hair has slip). 3) get out of the shower - I scrunch to create clumping over the sink while my hair is still very wet. 4) after my clumps have formed I apply my styler - for me it’s usually a cream. However!! Less is more on wavy hair. You may not need to apply all over and then in sections. I also recommend not brushing through your hair anymore free the leave in step! For wavy girls it can separate our clumps and they won’t reform the same way curly girls do. Our waves will end up more piece-y and less defined (but that’s also a look too - very beachy) If you are gonna brush it I would say no other than a denman brush with only 3 rows. 5) I’ve finished applying my styler to very wet hair, now I use my microfiber towel to blot out and extra wetness. It’s gets my hair to a more damp stage but keeps definition. If you feel it removed too much product you can add a little more. 6) my final product, for me mouse seems to work best. It gives me hold and volume. 7) I usually plop my hair in that same microfiber towel for about 10mins. Then I either diffuse or air dry! 8) this step is optional but if I want extra extra hold I’ll apply a thin layer of gel on top the mouse I applied in a light praying hands motion. This locks my waves in for day’s. 9) once dry, add an oil to keep frizz away and you’re good! This used to take me a while but after so much trial and error I can apply my product in about 5 mins! The diffusing is the part that takes long.

Rachel Salazar: I love this!!! I went on a curly journey two years ago. It is definitely a learning process!! It takes time and patience. You have to figure out what works best for your hair type. Not everything will work for everyone. Try a bunch of different methods take notes and even progress pictures.

Anja Drechsler: You finally did it! I haven't even watched the video yet, but I'm so excited!! Edit: I've been trying (parts of) the curly girl method for a few months now and Anna Lauras curl/wave looks very similar to mine except thicker and fuller. I can only agree with the other comments here. Put the products in when the hair is soaking wet, for me that really helps with frizz and definition. Also keep the brushing to a minimum. It might work well for really curly hair, but not so much with wavy hair

Bianca Fernandez: I always always ALWAYS detangle in the shower with plenty of conditioner in my hair. There’s lots of ways to style but my favorite is the squish method that’s used in the shower. Perfect every time. Im glad to see you learning about curly hair. I think it’s outrageous that cosmetology schools don’t teach their students about curly/kinky hair. All hair is beautiful.

Lilly Walling: I remember watching this video when it came out.. 2 months later I’ve started the “curly girl method” for my hair and I’m discovering my wavy hair. I’m a 2B wave that has been watching sooo many videos. I’ve finally discovered what products work for my hair and I’m SO happy with it. It’s so funny looking back when I watched this video I was stunned at her gorgeous hair and wished I could have it. And now I have a extremely similar hair type. It’s so weird how we can’t even know our own hair type for the longest time.

Alizza Batres: I'm a curly girl (3a-b)! <3 I am SO excited for you! I have always know that my hair was curly because I have a tighter curl, however it was only about a year ago that I started using all the tips. I do not follow the curly girl method, it does not work for everyone! So remember to be patient and figure out what does and does not work for your hair. I could not recommend manes by mel enough! She is FABULOUS! Watch all her videos! the brush you're using to style probably isn't the best, the denman brush is the one you have to use. But you also gotta figure out which denman brush works for your hair. alwasy keep your hair wet while styling! It's a long process but definitely worth it! There are so many girls out there with beautiful curly hair and they don't know it. I'm glad you're starting this journey!

Christina Leigh: I just started my curly hair journey a week ago so I am so glad this is something we can go through together.

Nicole Joy: I have always thought I had wavy hair until I started trying the curl girl method. After only two weeks I already have more definition but after those two weeks I was not totally sold on the method and started watching a few of Mel’s videos. Through some trial and error I think I actually have 3a or 3b curls! Cheers to all the other curly girls out there who are also working on their curl journey! ❤️

Denise Crane: Mel is great! I would also recommend Swavy Curly Courtney, whose recommendations are geared more towards wavy hair, which AnnaLaura seems to have. My biggest piece of advice is that your hair should be wet enough that you hear a "squishing" sound when you scrunch - otherwise, it's too dry, products won't distribute properly, and you won't get as much definition. Cannot wait to see her curly journey!

Nina Emerald: This is probably the most similar to my hair in texture, length and thickness. I love seeing the process because maybe I can learn something new through your journey too. My biggest problem is that my hair is so long that it weighs the wave down in like an hour after it's dry

beebaking7: I can’t wait for more in this series! I went curly 4 years ago and it has gotten more curly over time. I loved this video ❤️

ceilidhx3: I'm so excited to see this hair journey! My mom and brother have the tight curls, I got stuck with a wavy, tangled mess, so I'd love to see how this process works out.

Ashlyn Davie: Kayley, I'm so happy you're doing this with AnnaLaura! I have wavy hair with a few 3A curls, and I would definitely recommend adding her products on soaking wet hair. This will minimize the frizz and add more definition, as it encourages clumping of the hair. Also, I like to stick to detangling while still in the shower but then immediately apply my styling products. I've noticed this helps ensure I have enough water in my hair for the styling process (again, to help with clumping), and I thought it might be worth it to try that on AnnaLaura's hair. It looks like you guys have a great start on this journey, though! Another youtuber you might want to check out is Swavy Curly Courtney; she makes some incredible videos on really figuring what works best for you with your hair texture and needs.

Rachel Stockton: I have 3b hair, and it's been a struggle finding hairstylists who know how to cut it. I've definitely had some cuts that didn't work. I'm excited to see Anna Laura's curly hair journey!!

Julia Hildebrand: Yayyyy curly representation! My journey as been long and.....interesting.... lol. I can’t wait to see yours! Also be careful! You should try to avoid silicone with the curly girl method! And the ghost oil you used has silicone in it!

Ella C: I absolutely love ManesByMel! She really is a fantastic resource that helps you to build your understanding of curly hair in general. Another things that might help is to do finger coiling (Mel has a video about it). It’s a useful technique for restarting curls when you are transitioning your hair (it helps the curls to understand how to curl when they have been straitened a lot).

Kerri Drumhiller: So excited for these curly videos! I really hope this means you'll be having more natural curly tips and hair styles!

Cassandra Pangelinan: wavycurlyali has great routine videos! Also as a wavy girl, I sometimes brush cream through to distribute, before mousse and gel. But sometimes I don't! But brushing creams through can be helpful! Just depends on the definition vs volume you want! If I don't comb through, I scrunch to distribute, and that's pretty much it

Abby Riley: Hey, I'm currently over 1 and a half year into my own curly girl journey. Personally, now that my hair is healthier, I actually really benefit from brushing it dry before washing it to have fewer tangles during shampooing. The slip in the conditioner means that I don't feel knots until it tugs and hurts on my roots, so I'd say its personal preference on the brushing front. As for accounts, I'd highly recommend Real Life + Curly Girl on youtube. Some videos might be a bit older, but the information and the science behind the advice she provides is truly amazing. She also got through cosmetology school and is opening her curly hair saloon RN, so you bet she knows what she is talking about. Good luck on your journey, and don't get too fussed about your number on the chart ;)

Ashli Buts: Note: I have a very similar wave pattern to your sister! So yeah! Try and watch lots of videos of wavy girls too, because there are differences between our patterns and curls! Mels tips are great, but alter for waves :)

donna brown: Thank you!!! My 4 year old has naturally curly hair, and since her older sister and my hair is straight, I'm always looking for tips and tricks for her hair, cause its not something I've ever had to deal with, my hair won't take a curl for anything lol

Rebecca Mehrwein: I never realized my hair was wavy when I was younger, I was just always super frustrated when I would dry brush it and it came out a frizzy mess. So I used to straighten my hair in middle school cause I didn’t understand the fluffy mess happening with my hair or blow dry is straight every single time flash forward to my mid 20s and letting my hair air dry to discover I actually had texture. Lol

Rose Gallagher: I actually started wearing my hair naturally wavy/curly in the last few months. I've noticed that no heat styling and microfiber towels are NECESSITIES. My waves have gotten much more defined and curly, especially after getting it trimmed. I've struggled with finding products that my hair likes because some of the more recommended products make my hair oily, etc. It's definitely a "journey" of trials and errors but I've gone curly for almost three months now!

e batdorf: Finally! I've been waiting for one of you to try this! It looks so beautiful! Ok, this is a change I want you to try: 4:08 Don't brush it here. In my opinion, only people with SUPER curly/coily hair should brush it after the last rinse in the shower (as you saw in that tiktok video). You want to keep the curl clumps together as much as possible. It's the same idea as you are describing right at 12:55. Curl families.

Sandra Mata-Diaz: I just wanna say I loved that coordinated ending the two of you did, it’s so much fun and entertaining to see you and your sister working together!

monalisadiva: I’m looking forward to seeing your journey. I love Manes by Mel but my hair has a similar wave. Although I just cut it off to a short chin length bob. My issue is that my hair is probably a 3b at the back but a 2b from the top section and sides of my hair and the shorter length seems to accentuate that! I have found that there isn’t much out there for more wavy hair, though Mel and her seesta did do one recently with their cousins. I am not o good with the science, and you explain it well, so please keep learning and sharing! :)

Susannah: You did your homework girls!! CGM can be overwhelming buy you managed your first attempt very very well ❤️ I would suggest: no towel drying before applying product; use clips on the roots to give lift; and if you're trying to achieve ringlets, try pixie diffusing

Carolina Sousa: I'm so excited for this. AnnaLaura, welcome to the curly side! Kayley, it makes me so happy to see your desire to learn about it. I have a lot of hair, so the main thing for me is sectioning it. I divide it in 4 main sections (if I'm feeling dedicated, 6), and subdivide them to apply leave-in. I comb the product through my hair with my fingers and scrunch it up. If I want to make it extra nice (like my profile pic) I add some lightweight gel after the leave-in. I also favor milder shampoos that won't dry my hair as much, use a satin pillowcase, and I don't really care about how my hair will look like the next day. It usually holds up well enough I don't feel the need to restyle it. One thing I've been told by some stylists (they're specialists on natural hair) is that when we straighten or pull out the curls regularly, the hair gets used to that form. I don't know what AnnaLaura's routine was before this, so it might be helpful to scrunch it up and avoid styles that will stretch out the curls (ballerina buns, for example). Best of luck in this journey! I'm sure you'll have a great time! <3

Bianca Parsons: YES PLEASE DO MORE VIDEOS. I just started figuring out how to actually style my hair, so I am excited to see what you guys are doing.

Stephanie Gugliotti: Like most comments I would recommend doing everything in the shower though doing it on video is difficult lol. The brush looked like it had teeth very close together which would increase frizz and not give definition which is the intent. So a wide tooth comb or simple finger detangling would be perfect for her. I have two curly haired girls so I love this content!

Chris H: So I love brushing when I style my curly hair (similar type to Ana Laura’s I think, though more “curly” looking because I’ve been doing this for years) , but you’ve gotta do it on SOAKING wet hair! Like dripping wet. Either while you’re still in the shower, like right after the water turns off, or go absolutely ham with a spray bottle! Oh! And absolutely look up the “squish to condish” technique for Ana Laura, it absolutely brings out your best curls (and hydrates them really well)!!

Cassie: You know. I would say I’m 2c/3a with a smooth texture and I started my curly hair journey about 2 years ago and my advice is... don’t weigh down your curls with too much product, apply with prayer hands when the hair is SOAKING WET and don’t ever dry with a towel because it makes the curls frizz. I always get way more volume when my hair is shorter/ has less weight.

Gillian Ritchey: Can you do easy hairstyles for wavy hair please? Love you guys!

Nikita Lebedynski: Something I have also learned from ManesByMel is that everyone's journey is different. Already in the comments there are multiple different opinions and you just need to figure out what works for you. This is the same for when it comes to products that may or may not adhere to the CGM rules.

Maya Owen: Always detangle in the shower, always scrunch shampoo and conditioner upside down in the shower for more volume, always section when putting product in the hair after a wash, always move the curls (carefully) in different directions to confuse the root (again, more volume), and every once in a while if the hair is lacking moisture, treat it with a hair mask to reset the curls and give them a breath of fresh air - From a curly girl (3a-3b) ❤️

K. Souzon: AnnaLaura’s hair is so beautiful! One of the main things about styling and caring for 2B hair is water. Lots and lots of water. The more water and scrunching action, the better my styling products distribute through my hair (I can remove some of the water with micro-plopping later). I also recommend watching Swavy Curly Courtney’s channel. She has 2A,B,C hair texture and very informative videos on taking care of wavy, curly hair. Props to you wanting to learn about curly hair care and good luck to AnnaLaura on her curly hair journey!

nylanator: I've struggled to make peace with my curls my whole life. Over the past few months I've been watching videos by the curl ninja. Her methods have my curls happier and healthier than they've ever been. Her work (she has a book and videos, and she and mr curl ninja have fantastic Instagrams) is definitely worth checking out.

Madikken Emmalie Zelda Thomsen: I love Cantu. It might be a bit to thick for AL but its amazing, smells great and curly approved. Also TGin. Another tip is to avoid products that cater to non curly hair. Find products specialized in curly hair - it makes a lot of difference! Good luck!!

Lucy Smith: Thank you for trying to learn more about curly hair I have been following you for YEARS and as a curly girl myself I get really excited when you post anything curly related.

Kaitlyn Renaud: Good on you for learning more about curls. I've had so many hair cuts where stylists would straighten my hair first before cutting since they did not know how to handle my curls. Even today there are only 2 curly stylists in my city and its not a small city. I lucked out with a stylist who admits that she doesn't know much about curly hair but does her best and listens to me and does research. I also have short hair so thats a double wammy of short hair and curly hair which seams to be impossible for a lot of stylists. I've had some terrible tear worthy cuts before. Tips- detangle in the shower with conditioner. Don't mess with the hair when it is dry. Fig-rue out if you like gel, mouse, or curl cream or a mix. I personally love curl cream especially 'Not Your Mothers Hair Curl Talk'. I also love using an oil in my hair since it is more dry but i dont know about your hair type if that would help or weigh it down.

Faith Alexis: I had stick straight hair growing up, but the older I get, the wavier my hair gets. I brush it *before* I shower, then apply an oil/serum after without scrunching or manipulating it (which helps limit frizz). I also don't brush my hair after I wash it. My hair is SUPER wavy naturally now!

Camdon Frazier: I AM HERE FOR THIS! I hope this works. My hair is definitely on the boarder of straight/wavy. Would love to define some curls #following

Alexa Leggett: My hair was pretty similar to anna laura’s a few years ago and now I have 2b-3a wavy curls. This won’t work for everyone but i thought i’d share some tips! 1. my favorite shampoos and conditioners are the maui moisture coconut oil curl line or the not your mother’s naturals curl line. 2. then my favorite products are the playa ritual hair oil, then the not your mothers curl talk cream and gel. 3. don’t brush your hair after you get out of the shower. detangle in the shower while conditioner is in your hair. 4. as soon as you get out of the shower, wring your hair out with a soft t- shirt then apply product right after. 5. don’t rake product through or you will separate the curls. You also probably don’t need to section. I like the prayer hands method best. 6. after you’ve applied all your product, take the t shirt, flip your head upside down and use the t shirt to scrunch all the hair at once. you don’t need to have your head upside down but it helps for volume! Hope this helps!

JJanae: I have curly hair and I have found Manes By Mel to be my favorite resource. It’s more about the technique than the products. I think you did very well and Anna Laura’s hair turned out so well! One thing I would say is when you are plopping it is better to not leave it on for too long as the towel can soak up product (in my experience) I would love to see an update!

Anna-May Moon: Super exciting!!! Can't wait to see where this goes - I have the same hair texture as Anna by the looks of it, ive always found my hair boings up an inch or two after a hair cut so something fun to bear in mind :) Also love the science bit but couldn't actually see the hair, would you mind demonstrating over like a bit of coloured paper/card next time? (That being said my screen is HELLA cracked so it might be just me!)

Alexi Pauls: I'm so excited to see more curly girl content!! I'm recent to the curly girl method so I'm always excited to learn new things

Samira M: I think there’s a different between curly and wavy. Not just in terminology but also when it comes to the products you should use (lighter & more water-based products for wavy hair).

Gabi Carpenter: Hair should be “squishy” when adding product. Her hair is way to dry.

Nura Martinez: Love that you are sharing your journey with us! If it helps at all I've seen Brazilians are pretty awesome at managing curly hair.

McKenna Johnston: I really hope you make more of these videos! I have the same hair type as AnnaLaura and I began my journey a few months back and I always love new tips! Also, I'm not sure how to find good products and gels, so could you do a video/talk on that??

Emily Godown: That is how my hair started out! I watched a lot of India Batson’s videos and she helped me figure out my curls. I am a HUGE believer in combing though your hair when it has a lot of conditioner in it. I have a wide tooth comb chilling in my shower for that purpose. I like to damp style my hair because it gives me greater results. BUT I do part my hair before I do my first plop. It helps to have a more defined part. I can’t wait to see the rest of your videos!!!

Julie Kozlowski: I always had short hair but as my hair grew out it started getting frizzy and I couldn’t figure out what the heck was going on. I saw Annie forget me knots do the curly method and tried it and surprise the frizz is because I have curly wavy hair. It takes a while for your curl pattern to come out! Don’t overload with product keep it simple! My curls always look best the second and third day when I refresh. Be patient and enjoy the journey!! Don’t be rigid about your curls it’s ok to wear your hair different ways just be careful with products and to much heat! And don’t shampoo constantly and don’t shampoo the ends just your scalp as you rinse the shampoo with run down the ends and cleanse them. Check out India Baston she’s awesome so is curly Susie

Sara Hix: Curly girl here! I always brush out my hair before showering or during while conditioning. By brushing it after the shower, you’re pulling out the natural curls that had started to form when your hair was super wet.

denise bartlett: I was 40-some years old and the stylist who had been doing my hair for a few years finally one day pronounced "You have curls!" Basically wavey like Annalaura's, but it's too long now that the wave basically pulls out I think. Congrats and enjoy :D

Saray Valdez: Beautiful wavy hair!! Wishing you well on your curly hair journey ☺️☺️
