If everybody, if you be here and I'm back with another video, so this video is for all the women out there who are thinking about transitioning to natural. I just wanted to come here and give you all a few tips on what I feel helped me. The most with my transitioning journey, okay, so first things. First, you want to decide whether you want to big chop or transition long term. Now, when I say transition long term, I mean transition for at least a year or more, it's just a personal preference. Some people want to big chop, so they can experience all stages of natural hair with the towa the Aqua stage stage: 1. 2. 3. 4. Whatever you want to call it, and some people don't feel comfortable with short hair. They decide to transition long term, and that was me. I initially wanted to transition for two years, but I did not make it that far a big chopped after one year and two weeks post. When I big chop, I was happy with my life. It wasn't too short, but it was short enough so that I can somewhat experience a TWA or a short opera once you decide when you want to make chopped or transition now will give you a foundation for your transitioning journey and if you decide to transition that'll, Allow you to see the light at the end of the tunnel, so you don't want to set a specific date, but you at least want to say: okay, I want to transition for six months or transition for a year or two years or whatever the length may Be but just give yourself a set period of time as to how long you want to transition. So once you decide that you are going to transition, you want to find a go-to style and your go-to style could be a braid out. It could be a sew-in braids or whatever the sound may be now. For me, my go-to style were bright house. I wore it out all the time and I love the braid outs for my transitioning pairs. That'S all made it easy for me to blend the two textures now you do know that you have your natural or new growth at the top and you have the straight black pieces and it can be hard to blend it to textured. But when I walk right out it was effortless, so your go-to style can be braid out. It could be on just whatever style is easy for you with very low manipulation, so the next tip would be moisture, moisture, moisture. You want to make sure that your moisturizer, because you will be experiencing breakage, especially with the line of demarcation and a lot of you mark Asian, is where your relaxed hair and your natural hair needs. So you want to make sure that you keep your hair moisturize to prevent breakage, especially if you are transitioning long term. If you are transitioning long term and you want to keep your limb, you want to prevent breakage as much as possible. So it's very important to retain the moisture in your hair, so my next tip would be to experiment with different protective styles and box braids cynically twist sohma's and even waist. When I was transitioning, I had five sprayed and senegalese twists, two or three different times. I loved those protective styles one because it was cute and two because it gave me a break from dealing with my hair and dealing with the two textures. So I highly recommend that you get a protective style at least once or twice during a transitioning period. So my next tip would be tweak your regimen. It is okay to tweak your regimen from what you did when you are relaxed to what you're doing as you're transitioning. When you are relaxed, you probably had a set regimen or you have a set routine. For instance, you probably washed a hit every week, but as you're transitioning and your new growth is going rolling in and make it more complicated to do to hair. So, instead of washing your hair every week, it's okay to change your regimen and wash your hair every two weeks, for instance, just tweak your regimen as you go along your journey just to make it easy on you and your hair next tip is to do mini Chops, if you do not want to do the big chop in a transition long-term, I suggest you do mini chops every two to three months. So, as your hair is growing in just cut a couple inches at a time, so you're really not losing length but you're losing the relaxed end. If that makes any sense, my next tip would be to do not try to guess your curl pattern. Once you cut those relaxed and off the curl pattern that you saw while you were transitioning, is nothing like the curl pattern that you will have most your fully natural. The reason being is because your relaxed ends are weighing down your new growth. Naturally or your natural crop will appear looser. Then they really all when you're transitioning versus when you are fully natural, it's okay to take pictures and examine your new growth and whatnot. I did it, everybody does it, but don't get too hung up or to attach that curl pattern that you see when you're transitioning, because that is not your curl pattern. You will not see your true curl pattern until you are a hundred percent natural. My next tip would be to be gentle with your hair. Like I said, you do have a lot of demarcation where your natural in your relaxed hair, meet that line of demarcation is very fragile. So you want to make sure that your just with the air when it comes to call me rushing tangling or just styling your hair in general, because you want to prevent breakage. So it's very important that you are gentle with your hair. My next tip, which is a very important tip, is to not use too much heat, while you're, transitioning or period while you're on a healthy hair journey. You don't want so much, but specifically, while you are transitioning, you don't want to use too much heat because even though you are not 100 % natural, yet you can still cause yourself hate damage on your new growth, so try not to fly. I do too much. Try not to blow dry and all that stuff, because you can cause yourself heat damage and once you cut off your relaxed end, you don't want heat damaged hair. What was the point? What'S the point of going natural if you want damage your hair already like girl? Don'T just don't use heat just stick with style. Heatless styles like right up, like I said, right outs where my goal to say I didn't ask you key. It was easy for me to blend the two textures kratos braids out to braid outs. I love right now. Smile transitioning, if that's not yourself, stick with sewing, so you don't have to manipulate your hair. You don't have to flat on your hair and, if you're going to do a sewing, do a sewn with the closure or whatever it's called, so that your all of your hair is put away. So you don't have to worry about flat ironing your leave out and causing heat damage on a specific part of your hair to stay away from heat. Kate is wack. Okay, too much heat is whack and last but not least, you want to ignore the negative comments because you will get them. There are going to be a lot of people that don't agree with you transitioning to natural, but you know what forget them? It'S not about them, it's about you and what you want. I can honestly say that when I decided to transition - or when I'm big chopped for that matter, there were a few people that really didn't care for my little short afro and whatnot, but those same people that did not care for my hair back then look at My hair, now, okay and I'm just leaving at that so like I said, ignore the negative comments they'll get over it. Who cares it's not about them? It'S about you! If you want to transition and experience your natural luscious beautiful year. Do you it's all about you and all about what you want? I hope this video was helpful to all the women who are transitioning or thinking about transitioning. If you're thinking about it just go ahead and do just go ahead and do it now, if your hair is beautiful as far as how and I love it, it's the best decision I could have ever made when it comes to my hair and that's transitioning to Natural, I'm glad I did it. I will never look back. I will never turn back to the cream tried, even though I had in my opinion, I had decent, healthy relaxed hair. I love my neck to hear so much more better. I hope you enjoyed the video and I will see you guys in my next one

Nerdy Queen: My mom has been putting perms in my hair since I was little and I'm now in college and I'm tired of my relaxed hair. I can't even remember how my natural hair looked and how it felt like before my mom changed my hair. Your video is very helpful and give me the confidence to start my journey to transition my hair back to its natural state. My mom is gonna hate it and say that my hair looks a mess and that it looks "nappy" but I know that I'll be happier with my natural hair.

7 Rings: I never realized how much I loved my natural hair until I permed it ‍♀️

Tee Cee Natural: I've had a perm on my hair for over 30 years and I've mad the decision to go natural... I currently have braids in and I'm glad to hear you said you gave yourself a year because I planned on keeping it braided for a year, but cutting off all of my perm around December. You have no idea how much your video has helped me!

Maruko: The negative comment part was NOT A LIE!!! When I was transitioning (this was my 4th month going on 5), so many people at school, even my mom too, was talking about my hair and new growth. Kept telling me to get a perm and everything. It was so bad it drove me to finally get a perm. It's been a month since the relaxer now and I regret getting it. This would have been month 6!!!! Ugh.

4evertashie: I personally transitioned for 1 year and 1 month post relaxer, you're right braidouts are great to blend the 2 textures. April you were a huge inspiration and influence in me deciding to transition to natural! thank you!

Lauren Allen: Thank you for the tips. I'm 8 months into my transition and just mini chopped. This journey has been the best decision ever!

sayrenani: Thank you for all those tips, all your videos. I'm having a sewed in hairstyle right now after I did the big chop. But I can already see how my hair grows, parts have already been growing out and I can run my fingers through it without having a hand full of hair. You're such an inspiration, I've never been this excited to get those extensions out and see my healthy natural hair growing and being beautiful. Thank you, April! Thank you for giving me enough strength to love my natural hair again.

It's Alierah: I'm 14 and got a perm when I was going into the 7th grade I cried when I got a perm because I was basically forced I love my natural hair so I started getting new growth in the middle of my 7th grade year. at the ending of the year I cut three inches off my first time in transitioning. i do small chops every three months and I'm at the ending of my transitioning and my hair is 10 inches long now I recommend when your transitioning to not use heat and try to keep ur hair in a protective style and to keep your hair mouisturized I love being natural and I will NEVER NEVER get my hair relaxed ever again don't listen to people telling u to get ur hair permed I'm telling u it's not worth it n the long run .

New Ball Talk: This is the most motivational video I have seen yet! Especially, because I'm ready to go natural, but a little nervous about letting go of my extensions. I'm past the point of returning to the 'creamy crack' lol! It's taken a few years to get my hair back to healthy, also it's an emotional journey feeling truly beautiful with our natural hair. But, you own it, and this video has motivated me to do the same! Thank you so much for your inspiration!

Aviana Wiles: Okay! You've convinced me to go natural I've gone a year keeping up with a short, permed haircut and I eventually decided I wanted to grow my hair back out. Only thing is I permed my hair before I made that decision I don't want to cut it because I would basically be bald so transitioning sounds so much better for me. Thanks!!!

Shantia Allen: Great tips! I wish I would have watched a video like this when I was transitioning! But i didnt start watching youtube until I became natural lol. But I am 1 year 6 months natural, even though there has been some setbacks, some hard times, it is the best decision I could have ever made for my hair! Here's to another 6 months natural....and a lifetime of big beautiful hair!

LaurelsCurls: Natural, luscious, beautiful hair!!!! Couldn't agree more!!!! Great video - I'm going to share it with my sister since she's transitioning now.

Kayla Simmons: Thank you so much for making this video. Around this time last year I told my mom that I wanted to go natural but she didn't think it was best for me because I've been struggling with alopecia areata for about 7 years now. After years of perms and protective styles my hair has almost fully grown back now, but I still have some bald patches. So my mom told me to wait and that I could do what I want with my hair when I turn 18. But I turned 18 almost 5 months ago and was too afraid to go natural. You've inspired me to finally make the decision to transition so that my hair can grow healthfully and beautifully. Thank you again ❤️

Bliss Louis: Just found your videos. Starting my natural journey. Definitely don’t want to big chop so I’m transitioning. What products do you recommend for keep your hair moisturized? Love your videos!

T Elease: This video inspired me to the fullest. I'm in transition myself. I work at a retail store, and people look at my hair all the time. I be like...:( please take your bag and bounce. have a nice day. lol but u guys make me push harder. thank u.

Dre Day: One of THE best breakdowns/explanations that I have seen about the transitioning process. Great job!!

Lovely Africa: Thank you, April, I did the same thing you did, transition for one year and then, I just cut off the relaxed ends and my hair is beautiful , healthy and long, and I am three years and months natural. I am so happy, I went on this journey, I will never go back.

Liz Bush: I LOVE THIS VIDEO, thank you so much for the information, I been wanting to go natural but did not know how or were to start, I never cut my relaxed hair for like 20 years but the hair is short ( 12 inches) and it doesn't grow at all, and I don't have my edges anymore, so that is why I decided to go natural and I hope I will enjoy it :)

Christacia Holmes: Love this tutorial! I haven't touched my hair in 3 years & my last update was in March! I'll be taking out my sew in, in 2 weeks & getting a blow out I plan to try the braid outs thereafter!

Nicole Marie: Thank you for sharing your transititioning hair journey with us. Almost 2 months in with my transitioning journey.

Psychology Princess: Your hair looks gorgeous! I'm trying to figure out how to get this transition underway. Big chop is definitely being considered.

Cheesa Williams: Your video was awesome. I enjoyed it alot. You are very informative and articulate. I just recently made the decision to go natural. I haven't had a relaxer in 2 months. I decided to wear wigs that are cute, stylish and similar to my own hair. I work in a professional setting so I didn't want to buy a wig too outrageous. I learned from you to make the longer transition instead of BIG CHOP. Thanks

Camesha Hogan: Transitioning since January 2017!  My hair has never felt healthier!  Wonderful tips...especially for a new, inexperienced person as myself!!!  Love the video!!!  <3

Hadiyah Fields: Thank you for allowing us to see your transition phases and in giving tips! Your hair is beautiful!!!

LaPrecious Ragins: 5 months on transitioning my hair and have cut 2 inches off my relaxed ends. I do plan on transitioning for 3 years. I'm so glad I came to this video

Gabrielle Morris: Great tips April!! I love your hair!

Mephatass: once again....yet another great straight forward and informative video. I just sent the link to a friend who is transitioning and wanted advice.... perfeft timing!!! keep doing your thang ms +April Bee

Breia Armstrong: thanks, I needed this. I've been transitioning for 6 months and I hate my hair. I'm still waiting for that liberating joy of going natural. happy to hear all the things my hair is going through is normal.

Rubin: My mom made me go natural (by not taking me to the hair salon anymore) and I'm glad she did :)

renita heath: Great tip about the curl pattern being different when transitioning from big chop. Never thought about that, but that's exactly hat happened to me after transitioning for over a year then cutting off my relaxed ends, my curl pattern was totally different.

Judah '66/'75: Beautiful hair!!! Trying to transition and it's got it's up and down!!! Glad my husband is supportive!! You go girl and all the other beautiful black natural women on this site!! #selfblacklove.

Ann’G Amour: I love this video I big chopped because I tried to transition 2x and ended up relaxing so I knew that was the only way for me and it was extremely hard and still is I have no idea what Styles to do because I'm in that awkward stage I wear wigs to protecte my hair and I have seen much growth in the last year I can't wait until I reach your length it gives me hope but I do love my natural hair and it so healthy ....

〰Develynn 〰: I wish I never got a perm..... So much work

RaeofSunshine: Omg your hair is giving my life! I am currently 9 months post and I actually chopped all the perm in the nape area not enough to notice but just so I could see if I had a pattern at all.. it's a constant struggle to keep from cutting but I plan to wait until after February which will put me at 14 months post before I chop it. it's hard with the two textures and having to use different products for each texture..

FoxyFeline: Thank you, your hair is beautiful. My hair is currently relaxed, but I am wearing cornrows at the moment. I was thinking about possibly going "natural" when I take down these braids, but I didn't want to do the big chop. I hope you have some more videos to check out!

glory andrew: Am glad i watched this video...girl your a life save you gave me the will to not give up on my transitioning journey

Chika Monica: I'm so excited to be transition again to natural I had cut my hair into a pixie cut back in August and it has been growing so fast now it's in a crochet hairstyle for at least two months. :) hopefully my transition go good this time for the 2nd time!

2SweetTommi: This has been the most helpful video about transitioning from relaxed to natural hair! Thank you so much for the tips. :D

vibewithaja: This is actually just what I needed ! I've recently began transitioning ( a month after my thirteenth birthday &&' I plan on long term transitioning ( at least two years ) and I'm so excited !

Mimi: I relaxed my hair back in 2013, it’s now 2020 and I’m still transitioning my hair. I did multiple big chops- hope I can get back to my curls again

Shawn Norman: Thank u for these tips. I did the big chop twice. First time because my hair (which was relaxed and color) started breaking real bad. Chopped and started wearing a wig. Hair grew back long and strong and I went back to relaxed and color and it broke again. Did big chop again and went Natural. Only color. (Completely gray. Not ready for that) been natural for going on 3 years and I love it. Hair is strong. Didn't know about u until today. Jane Mason helped me through my transition via of utube. I have to agree with you. Braid out is my favorite and I did receive negative feedback during my transition. Thank u for validating this process. Please keep up the good work. We as sisters always need to reassure each with positive feedback.

Brittany Riley: Last time I had my relaxed was my birthday in June of 2015 and then recent Dec decided that I wanted to go back to natural and I was already transitioning. My stylist gave me a cute bob cut to help instead of the BC which I am so grateful. Im not knowledgeable about hairstyles. Never did protective styles since I was in elementary school. My question is how do I stay away from heat when it is all I know? How did you make it work during this hard process before your hair finally became natural?

Andrea R: Can you do a video about how you achieved the style that you're rockin in this video?? It is sooo cute!  I had my last relaxer on 8/4/14.  Your videos and pictures really inspired me.  I big chopped on 5/31/15.  Your videos are so helpful!  Keep it up!... and please post a video about this style. lol

TheHareLife: These are great tips! I had your BC on replay when I did my BC! Love your hair btw

Yea No: If you're using wigs or sew ins I recommend curly wigs. Kinky curly and do twist outs because you don't have to use heat for that and it looks natural and you never have to wear your natural hair until you're fully ready which is my plan.

Anita Sky: Great tips. I've been transitioning for 9 months and braid outs are my go to! x

Petro.Tricia: I've been transitioning for 8 months. My husband asked me if I'm going to look like an old woman now! Lol He complimented my hair today after I asked him to help me undo my braids. Saying 'I can see how pretty your natural hair looks.' My concern tho is what are the best moisturisers to use and how will I style my hair during and after transitioning. I was never one to like braids! I feel that this is forcing me to wear braids.

MyNaturalMyChoice: First, your hair looks amazing! Awesome tips, that absolutely live by for my natural hair!

quiet storm: I loved this video. I know it's going to get frustrating for me since I just decided to transition.

Kerika Green: Hi! So I have currently been transitioning for 9 months and I'm having trouble keeping my hair moisturized. Do you have any tips to help?

Brittany Alexander: Your hair is flawless

Brittany Alender: love this and love your hair. I'm 8 months post, can't wait to discover my true natural pattern

Mafas C.: Love your hair!!! I'm in love with my natural hair, short but healthy!!!! Congrats!

Ugochi Talabi: wow. this video came in time I was already giving up going natural with dealing with the two textures. thank Aprilbee

Okoyé Forever: Awesome tips. I am 9 months into transitioning and two years is my goal.

Gemini Nieves: Love your natural hair. I'm doing the long term transitioning and plan on doing mini chops. What are your best hair products for moisturizing?

tiera crosley: I love your hair! ❤ Next month I'll be 2 years relaxer free. I'm planning on cutting my relax ends in January?,2016. I have alot of new growth. Great tips!!!

Emilie Obas: April, glad you're back!! Can you please do a tutorial on this hair style?!! It's beautiful. Wash and go? Twist/braidout?

Doreen Davis: I'm currently transitioning and I'm 5 months post perm. My go to style is bantu knots. I love the way my hair looks once I do the twist out. I've looked at other videos on other styles but I just DON'T have hands for hair. Ur hair is lovely!

iTasha Clark: I'm been transitioning for 8 months now, it's been a struggle tryna figure out which products to use, & finding a regimen... but I have found my go to protective styles, Havana twist & crochet Marley hair thanks for the tips, I wish I had some ppl to trade ideas & just talk with that are transitioning....

MsRoxie25: Your hair looks so healthy, it's simply gorgeous!!!

Akili Akili: I'm beginning to wish I big chopped so that I could establish my natural curl pattern sooner . Great video and journey. Slay natural ✊

K M: Thankyou that was really helpful!!......does getting your hair braided count as a protective style? If so, what are good steps to take to maintain healthy braids?

J C: That last tip is the TRUTH!!! I was fortunate enough to have a really supportive husband who actually helped me with my BC by using his clippers to cut me down to .25 an inch of hair on new years 2014. If there were such a thing as type 5 category hair, I think a pic of my hair could've been in the textbook, lol! I sure did get a lot of puzzled looks from family on both sides, but I didn't care. With a lot of TLC and MOISTURE, its already back down past my shoulders..

blessednbeautiful1: I'm transitioning and I appreciate these type of videos. Thanks for sharing.

Destiny Afinni: I'm planning on trasitioning, and I was just wondering how long did it take you to fully go natural?

LadySophie There Is No body like Jesus: Hi April Bee I'm 7 months post. Thank you for your insights. I keep my hair moisturized, however my new growth is so course. do you think the texture of your hair change?

CeeCee Tracey: I'm about to transition. Two weeks ago I was due for a touch up on my relaxer and decided against it. I'm tired of it. I just have to find someone to braid my hair when I need it braided. I'm ready to rock out for the year it'll take to get some length and grow out that relaxer.

Adeanz: Your hair is soooo gorgeous! Did you already do a tutorial on that style? How do you get that hang time?!

PerksLife Uncensored: Nice tips! I literally been in braid outs for the last 7 months

lilmama: Great tips!!! Tfs by the way your hair is growing so fast, it's beautiful. Would love to see more hair vids

Daisha Jackson: Thankyou so much for this video this makes wanna go natural even more!

Chay Andrea: Great tips, definitely all necessities!

Esther Onala: woow your hair is beautiful, thank you for this video i seriously was losing soo much patience with my hair transitioning as its been over a year and i am not yet fully natural. i was actually considering chopping off all the relaxed hair

EllaMessy Bella: "Braid Outs"during the transition is great advice. Thank you

Justeen Davis: Can somebody answer my question: does transitioning from a relaxer change the texture of your hair?

Jalisa Wilkins: i just started going natural a few weeks ago im transtitoning long term for like 1 year before i cut my relaxed ends off this helped alot thanks:)

Nous Nous: Great video but I need some of your wisdom! I have 2.5 months of 'regrowth' and am transitioning by accident so I'm just going to stick with it lol BUT I'm struggling. I naturally have soft straightish hair so it relaxes superbly, I have washed my hair and am trying to do twists but the relaxed hair is really straight and slipping out of twists, plaits and making bad twist/braid outs too. The only heat I have used on my head is the warm water from my shower yet its straight and doesn't want to obey me. What can I do?

Kelcey’s World: I love your personality! This helped me so much! Thank you thank you thank you!

Bee Natural: I big chopped on the 1st of November (a few days ago) and at first i was like dead inside because my hair was long but now im getting comfortable. My hair was two different textures between my roots and towards my ends. Im wishing for my long hair back tho

Briann Russell: Excellent tips , I loved everything you said.

jnefitema yep: I'm showing this to my step daughter. She needs to hear this cause I think kids at school are influencing her to get a perm. Thank you for this vid

Lisa Gao: I grew up relaxing my hair because of my.i didn't know that I had natural hair,I thought that my hair was straight. It's been 8 months since I haven't relaxed my hair, me and my mom are transitioning together. I am glad I found this video because I don't know wut the hell I'm doing. The problem is I have two textures,I was born with 4a hair but when I got a hair cut it changed to 4b which is weird.

Jada Glean: Am 13 and am 4 months into transitioning back to my natural hair.I did not hve the best quality hair but I prefer it more than my relaxed hair.I had not a clue what to do when transitioning and this video helped me a lot.Thnx and btw luv ur hairu giv me confidence

TellyGirl91: Great Tips. ! and i am only 4 months into my journey ! Have a long way to go :)

marletha granger: I love this video!!!! Very encouraging

jjada nnama: Your very inspiring I'm starting my new journey and your hair is beautiful then and now

Lorie-Ann: I started my natural journey in April and it has been in many protective styles since. I just now took my mali braids out, washed, blow out, then straighten it. Well, it's still one big POOF! lol. I was thinking of going to the salon to get a wash n set this weekend, and just have them blow it out instead of sitting under the dryer (I always hate it), instead of the extra heat and clip my ends (I won't ever get a chop off lol). Do you think me blowing it out like that and clipping my ends every 2 weeks would cause any heat damage to my natural growth? Perm has made me lazy! lol and this natural hair thing is WORK!!! sometimes I don't even know what to do with it!

Lifewithki X: I relaxed my hair because I didn’t like my natural hair when I was younger because I went to a white skl and natural hair was so called “nappy” but I’m in high skl now and I rlly regret relaxing my hair I’ve realised how beautiful natural hair is

Sincerely, Mrs. Griffin: I’m about to relax my wave nouveau permed hair. It’s been six ninth since I got the wave nouveau and I’m ready fir a change. My hair shed like crazy, my hair line vanished. Thankfully it come back now, but it was scary for a minute there. I documented my journey on my YouTube channel. I would highly not recommend the wave nouveau curly perm

eliza martinez: Thanks!!! This was very helpful:)

Dawn RoseWood: I'm 16 and thinking about transitioning.. think I will but seriously wonder what my natural hair looks like. my aunt has natural hair and I've never seen anyone else with her type, they're the perfect replica of a sheeps wool

Kaiyah Knight: Thank you for doing this video it helped me a lot I been trying to change my hair to natural. thank you

Glory One: Very informative, thanks!

Sky Moss: OMG! I love your hair! It's so pretty! I'm still transitioning.
