***Open for Awesomeness*** So for fun I thought it would be interesting to see how the curl formers worked in my hair. And after playing around with them a couple of times here are my thoughts!

How I up my YouTube game!

https://www.tubebuddy.com/swavycurlyco...

I'M a little bit scared, hey guys, welcome back to my channel. Today we are testing out curlformers. These aren't the name-brand curlformers. I did pick these up on eBay. I will have the link down below there's 40 of these and not gon na lie. I have tried these out one time before my results: weren't fantastic. I actually prefer my natural ko pattern to what these gave me the time before, but I've made some adjustments to what I'm going to do and we'll see how these go the second time around. So I'll go ahead and explain what happened. The first time here is a video of kind of how my hair turned out. I just there were some pretty straight pieces in there and I had the bright idea when I was first trying these out. You put some gel in my hair thinking that the gel would help blend hold to these curls and make them last longer. Well, what wound up happening was: is the gel actually helped my hair retain water, as is the nature of a hair gel and because my hair was holding in water, these things never dried. So when I took them out of my hair, there were pieces that just went straight so today I have washed and put absolutely nothing in my hair. Isn'T this the best look ever so I'm thinking that without any gel without any leave-in, my hair is gon na. Have a better chance of drying with these girl formers in there from my first experience trying these they do tend to start like pulling on your root after a while. So the idea of sleeping with these in overnight is not appealing, I think my best bet is going to be wearing them, while I'm here at the house running around doing some chores and letting them completely dry one a week doing things and then taking them out Versus sleeping on them overnight, so let's go ahead and jump into putting in my hair. So, first off I'm going to section my hair a little bit so that I am working with smaller amounts of hair. And I am just going to put up the majority of it and another trick would be to smooth the hair down, making sure that there's no knots in it, because if there are knots in it, you will see like strange bends and kinks in your hair. When you take out the curlformer because it will set the knot, so in this little pack it came with this wand and hook type situation, and what you do is you connect it and then you feed one of the curlformers onto this wand like so then what You'Re supposed to do is to grab a very, very small section of hair. I have tried grabbing larger sections. Any larger sections won't dry as quickly and be they hurt when you try and put on the curlformer. So yeah keep your sections small. I know. There'S a tendency to want to kind of rush and grab slightly bigger sections, but it really does actually save time when you're putting these in. If you grab a smaller section, then once your hair is hooked, slide the hook up all the way to your root and slide the one out, so one down a bunch to go, and another trick I have found is that you want to get the curlformer on Your wand, before you grab your section of hair, if you try and section your hair and then put the curlformer on, you will lose where your section was anyway. I guess that means that's common sense, but I don't have much common sense when it comes to hair tools. I was never very good at curling, my own hair. Now, if this hurts at all, when you start sliding the wand out, money, guess is that you grabbed too big of a section. If your sections are small enough, it will not hurt, but if your sections are too big, it will feel like somebody's ripping out your hair. Small sections are key, and this is another reason why I went ahead and purchased the 40 pack, because I thought that's like the biggest pack that there was because I wanted to make sure I had enough of these to do my entire head and small enough sections. I have pretty high density hair, meaning that I have a lot of hair. My hair strands individually are very, very fine, but I have quite a few of them, so it is kind of tricky to use enough. Did anybody else use these foam curlers? I never had enough foam curlers when I was growing up trying to do that. All right, I'm just going to go ahead and finish. Putting these in and I'll be right back all righty! I have had these in I've meant to show you right after I finished putting them in, but I feel so wildly attractive. I love them in for a while now and I realized that I needed to run out the door. So what I did is, I grabbed my blow dryer and my diffuser, and I basically diffused all of this to just finish: the drying process fingers crossed they're dry so that I can live my life without these. In my hair, all right, there is a trick to taking these out. I have found that if you grab the base - and you pinch it - it will open it so that it doesn't pull your hair so badly. And then you grab your root with your other hand and gently slide, it out and easy peasy lemon squeezy. The look at that so cute, alright, so what I meant was - maybe it's easier to show you what I was talking about when they're, not in my hair. So you see how this is closed. All of them are closed right now at the top, and this is rubberized. So if you were to try and pull this out of your hair, it would pull it your hair pretty badly. But if you grab the top and you gently pinch it, it turns it into a little circle and then it slides right out. So I'm just going to pull these out of my hair, really quick and we'll see the final result. Also, when you stretch them out a bit, they come out of your hair much more easily as well. There are multiple ways of just pulling these out. It does take some hair with it in some instances. I don't know if it's ripping my hair out. I don't think it is. It doesn't feel that way, I'm very tender headed and I think I would feel it ripping. If that's what was happening um it just, I think, that's natural hair shedding. I think I'm not noticing copious amounts of hair anyway, let's continue with the removal process. Sometimes it helps to stretch them out and sometimes not so much see that time stretching it out worked really well, and sometimes it doesn't interesting. Oh, I should have really gone from the bottom up: okay, that one did pull pretty good, but there's no hair, so, okay hell, yes, that would definitely rip it out of here. What all of them are doing that it's only happening occasionally interesting, interesting, all right! Oh last one, so I think this definitely worked better than the first time I tried it. There are some wonky pieces for sure, but I am going to wear this see how long these last some of them are pretty cute. You know like this, isn't the most epic hair day. I'Ve ever had this wasn't a recipe for perfect hair, but it's fun. It'S different. Let me turn around and show you the back. I will say the most uncute part is this right here. I don't know how to fix that, but there's like a little kink in my hair from where the curlformers were and that's right at my root, that's kind of hard to hide and I'm not going to fluff my hair too too much because I don't want to Completely separate these curls out because I think they're kind of pretty but anyway all right. I will be back to show you how they sell that good morning. Guys here is day two with the curlformers I did totally brush out my hair. I put in a little bit of that alakay lemongrass leave-in that I talk about in my refresh videos. I really find that that stuff helps with day two tangles and I brushed out my hair Shh, don't tell the curly police, but I really like the look. It gave my hair, it is soft and very, very smooth, but still has some body. It'S not currently, those curlformers have not given me ringlets. I try, but I'm gon na turn around and show you the back and yep. That is it for this video. Thank you all so so much for watching this video. If you found it helpful to watch another hair type, try out the curlformers like if this information was helpful to you, please go ahead and give this video a thumbs up. I would really appreciate it. It helps me up, and it lets me know that I was on the right track, also, if you're interested in more curly hair videos just for reference. This is what my hair normally looks like when I style doing the curly girl method. If you're interested in more videos like that, please subscribe and click that notification bell, I would love to have y'all around for some more videos comment down below. Have you tried the crow farmers or, like those old foam rollers? I think those things were from the 90s. Maybe even earlier did you used to do hot rollers? What kind of tools have you used to give your hair curls when, in all reality, it may have been curly on its own? Alright guys, I hope you are having an absolutely fantastic day and I will talk to y'all later bye.

Swavy Curly Courtney: My goodness! This was sure fun! Oh, something I forgot to mention is that when you see me with brushed out hair, that is actually the next day. So the brush out hair clips are actually on day two hair.

C Land: Wonder what my mom would say abt all these new fangled curlers. She got a perm every 6 months, then slept on brush curlers every single night of her life. When my dad found her passed away, he kindly took her curlers out of her hair before the paramedics came. He knew she would've never left the house w curlers in her hair! Of course, she taught me how to "set my hair" at a very young age, even though we both had natural curly hair. Wish she could've known CGM, too. Thanks for the memories SCC!

Laura Allen: Curlformers definitely have a learning curve. I started using them when they first came out and it was awful. I’d put them in with soaking wet hair full of product and sleep setting up. The next morning I had a head full of beautiful curls that would last a week. After watching your video I’m going to dig my curlformers out and give them another try. Side note, With my head full of the crazy spiral curlformers my cat would hide under the bed and not come out until he saw that I’d removed them. He did that every time I used my curlformers. It will be interesting to see what he does this time.

FlyingRainbowLasagne: I do a dance and rejoice! Truly, i am encouraging you and other devotees of “curly girl method” to think about using curlformers or flexi rods. I use flexi rods with some flaxseed gel as a setting lotion, and use a large nylon “bonnet” attached ot my handheld hair dryer to apply gentle heat. My results are great curls that last for days and no heat styling damage. I prefer this to CGM because I dont have to be so delicate, so fragile, about how the hair is plopped and whether it is touched , and i dont have bad hair days from unpredictable results. Flexi rods + flax seed gel + gentle heat ftw

SNeaker328: I use curlformers sometimes, and they work great on my hair! I find it works best if my hair is damp rather than soaking wet and I do spray some gel on each piece before curling it. I don't use them that often because I have to wear them for so long, but for every day I'll often curl a few pieces or so that I can tell haven't clumped well or I use it to refresh frizzy pieces. Works especially well for my front pieces which tend to get stretched out easily when I air dry.

Tatiana -: They are cute curls and the day 2 waves were really pretty. Honestly though, you're natural curl pattern is beautiful and suits so well.

Heidi Q: Thanks for the video! You saved me from spending more $$ on the curl formers....I like your natural curl better! I really appreciate what you're doing for us wavy/curly girls!

hi bye: Your hair is soooo pretty, it’s so satisfying watching you do wash and go’s

Nancy Hunter: I braid my hair in a French braid, so all up the back of my head. I can wear it like just over night or for up to 2, sometimes even 3 days and when I take it out it always looks great! I get lots of compliments on it. It’s really wavy and shiny.

Emily Karlsson: This was a fun video! Your hair looks so thick and healthy. I haven’t tried curlformers because I’m scared of the hook lol.

Mary Marshall: As a child I used the pink roller. Dry I comfortable to sleep in. Was sooooo excited to use hot rollers when I got older. My hair holds a curl well, so the hot rollers were awesome!!

Hallie Barenz: I used to use sock buns to curl my hair overnight when I was growing it out. Then I realized I had these frizzy spots by my ears that were kinda wavy. So I found cgm and now my hair is wavy!

Derrick Jennifer Watkins: I have course, waist length waves and curlformers give me big smooth hair like I get with flat iron curls. I brush it out and have silky full bodied hair for a week. It's SO much healthier than using heat and my hair feels way softer. Soo.. I don't use them to curl, but to straighten with movement...when I want a non damaging change

Joan Nogas: I tried the curl former when my hair was less than shoulder length. I found they pulled out or broke off too much of my very fine hair. Also they put a lot if tension on my roots. Like you, my hair stayed wet too long. A major fail IMO. I am still looking for a way to curl some of my streight bits as I have curls like yours in some parts and nearly streight in others. Yes, I can use heat but prefer not to. Has anyone tried spiral rods?

Karly Whittle: Thank you! I have Curlformers to assist with my curls and I thought it was a bit of a dud (I also have much shorter hair). I’ll try smaller chunks and see what happens

yensid: Before we had hand held blow driers & curling irons & straighteners ( electric) we used foam rollers for a damp set, pin curls or rag curls ( tied the hair ) I just used to braid my hair & stick a couple curlers on the ends & sleep on my wet/damp hair. These are all still good methods for non heat damaging styling imo if you don't mind showering at night & sleeping with your hair wet. My mother always used curlers & had the foam kind as well as the black wire (which were more for sitting under a hood drier at a beauty parlor) There were also a pink hard plastic type of culer that snapped together. Only the foam ones were comfortable to sleep on IIRC. Most women in the 50s & 60s got their done once a week at the beauty parlor, the whole washing & styling your hair everyday wasn't really a thing until the 70s & the first home hair styling tools became available. I remember the first ever "curling iron" my mom had actually required water & you pushed a button for steam. I burned the snot out of my hand & face with that thing as a young teen. Never been a big fan of curling irons for that reason.

RealHousewifeRachel: I clicked on this so fast because I have the same curl type as you. My natural curls didn’t come until puberty so YES, I wore sponge rollers every Saturday night of my childhood so I’d have pretty church hair the next day. I was born in 1980 and pink sponge curlers are way older than I am! I used hot rollers in high school to get some lift cuz my natural curls were CRAZY. LOL

Bennie Maine: I am watching some of your video's, updating from a busy life. I love your knowledge! I have discover that my hair is very much likes, except older! The back of my hair is curling a little now. It started about a month and a half ago. I personally cut my own hair, because of money lol! I literally cut of the dead off. OH! goodness what a change. I mention before about the C-PAP. I found that the sleep cap helps from breakage. Then I use the mask. I also discover I really like my hair the way God made it. The waves and spirals are unbelievable. The sad note is they fad the next day. Sometimes I get a second day but not third. My husband loves my hair. What was so odd I never had anyone ever compliment me at all. It was always my sister. When I started this six months ago people stop me at work and say my hair is beautiful. I have a new nick name (curly). My hair take soooo long to dry. I wash my hair with protein sometimes and conditioner with moister, deep conditioner with protein rinse with vinegar. I still trying to find the perfect scheduled.

Linaea Lehmann: I love your videos! It would be more helpful for me to see how your results have held up at the end of the day. Day two is always affected. Thanks

Maria Bean: I love your day 2 hair - so elegant

bossalou: I think the foam/sponge rollers came from the 60's. My mom put them in my hair occasionally when I was a kid in the 80's. When I was in high school in the 90's, I was in color guard. We were required to curl our hair for competitions. I used the foam rollers to set my very long hair the night. I hated them. I think I lost more hair doing that hair set and trying to get rid of the tangles when I washed my hair.

Flanuora Black: It’s helpful; I’m definitely gonna pass. Your natural hair is beautiful!

LindseyLouise: When I was in elementary school and my hair was straight, I’d sleep in the foam rollers with great success. After I had my boys and lost curls, I tried sleeping with rag rollers. Omg. My hair was waaaaaaay too curled. I looked like little orphan Annie. I have tried rolling my hair in socks overnight and that produces a nice loose curl.

Nastaran M: Thank you. How long should I leave the curler in my hair without using blow dryer?

corikaelyn: I absolutely love your videos, it really is like watching a friend. Makes me want to sit down and share a cup of tea and some chit chat!

Christy Burke: Your natural curl pattern is so beautiful !! Compared to the curl formers.

Myrna M.: These look just like the kind of curls one gets after doing pin curls or rag curls! If you brush them out against your hand, forming the waves, you'll get 40s-50s hair.

Janet Shaffer: Pulling them out from the bottom up looks easier... Your hair is gorgeous, btw. Thanks for all the useful tips as it sounds like we have the same type of hair.

Life.Unboxed.365: I love your videos!! They help me so much with CGM!!

StuckInTheLazyCorner Again: I think your hair is pretty both ways. This could be used for a specific/special occasion, it makes you look very fancy and elegant. Or if you’re yearning for a new look for a while

Sadie McC: Can you try Flexi rods? I've gotten really, really tiny ones and they give me like 3B curls and I love it!

Kaitlyn Holm: I used to use the Sleep Styler from Shark Tank. It is actually a pretty decent product but now I know I can get my hair far curlier just with my natural curl.

Serina_makeup _mama: I gotta say your natural curls are soooooo much cuter on you

Heather Mroz: I think your day 2 hair with the curlformers looks a lot like your no product hair. Which is very pretty.

Sterling Church: You explained this so well! You remind me of my teachers in grade school. Almost all of them had thick southern accents like you.

Larea92503: I wonder if you would enjoy the wave style of the curl forming curlers (the ones that look like a wave iron). I would love to see you try those or Curlicue_lu’s sock waves!

Virginia Krueger: I just recently tried the curly hair method ....and realized my waves were not even attempting curl. I must be a 2A at most. While my daughters with straight hair have used curlformers with good results, my hair didn't dry with them on. I had to use nearly 80 curlformers. Then again using the curly hair method it took my hair 7 hours to dry completely. I know from experience at salons that if they help the drying process my hair goes straight ( even using a diffuser) I actually have fun watching stylists get surprised when me hair doesn't behave the way they insist it should. I would never expect any thing that curled my hair to last overnight...and of course brushing it out is going to take away most of the curl. That said on my daughter with straight, waist length, finer hair she did have curls for 2 days. It might have lasted longer, but she has oily hair. The daughter with thicker , waist length hair mostly had waves with curls on the ends the first day, and next to nothing on the second day.

Brittany Craigo: When I was in elementary school for picture day my mom would put my hair in those foam rollers and have me sleep in them. I used them once myself in high school for an eighty days. If we knew then what I know now. Since then I've cut off 22 inches and started embracing my natural hair for about 2 and half years now.

Jessica Brewster: Also, do you recommend anything to being shine back into full hair?

QuixLand: Thank you.. I'd bought some and could not figure out how to use them... this was so helpful..!! I thought it looked good.. even some body left on day 2,,

Amy Ralls: With my hair, if I don't use nearly a whole csn of hairspray, any kind of wet set, or steam curls will not stay an entire day. My hair, with gel, will stay curly/wavy if I defuse and get an all around crunch from the gel!

Wendi Brabon: You’re hair turned out so pretty with the curl formers! Love the soft shiny waves. Maybe touch up the hairline with one of those mini flat irons? Also, those sponge curlers? They always turn out sooo bad... like so bad.

63 Rambler: That next day hair is a beautiful 1940s look!

Jessica Donaldson: Do you have a video on dry root clipping? Or one in the works?

Asteroid_artemis: The day 2 hair looks exactly like when I brush my hair.

Heidi Theis: When I used mine I learned not on wet hair make sure it's pretty much barely damp styling products are ok. MAKE sure your part is in place when you are setting then at the top or your curls will fall in your face.. I could never use a diffuser with just my hair bc it always frizzes....with these it "protects" the hair from frizz and it dried Fast!! With the blow dryer (I know heats bad but sometimes you can't wait a day and a half to dry) mine turned out great. In fact the few days after I still had head definition

Cheryl Marks: I agree with you in that I prefer your natural curl pattern. The curl formers actually looked like they made your hair straight except for the last few inches. Maybe they have a place in your hair repertoire for a special occasion?

Linzie Santana: You could always separate the curls then fluff to get rid of the awkward part at the root

Taylor Jenkins: Does the wet brush work just as well as the denman? I've seen some people use it, and i already own it, so don't want to buy the denman if I've already got something that works just as well

Dark-Winged Pegasus: Curious if you did the gel thing and left it in for like 12 hrs? If that would give better hold however, I read a lot that 2B hair hates being “forced” into curl. It likes its natural persuaded curls. Cool idea though!

Kitty Gentyl: your day two hair here is literally my normal hair

Swavy Blonde: I tried those, also found that my hair wasn't as curly and those rubber things pulled my hair really badly. Also, absolutely hated how my roots looked. Never tried them again and I think I never will.

Kathleen West: I'm guessing that there's parts of your hair that curl in the opposite direction of your curls, which is having a net straightening effect.

vaskylark: I just love your natural color. Mine is this dirty blonde, but darker than yours. I hate it so much I highlight but it damages my hair. I know I've told you before but your hair curl or no has a very nice color and looks so healthy! Health is so much more important than curl and thanks to your channel I am getting my hair healthy a little at a time. I can't afford all the products but once a month I will add something to make my hair healthier. I got so sick of it. It was down to my butt but tangles galore because it was dry like a nest and puffy and awful. It's getting better slowly and curls coming out more and more from my normal tight, dry, S waves.

аня: you are such a beauty, not only outside, but also in your soul thank u so much

Louisiana Girl: Might be a good idea to deal with wonky pieces, and might be better at the roots with some clips. Maybe? I dunno.

sarah: Hi are theses good to start off my curl pattern while doing the curly girl method?

spirals 73: Well hello, Nellie Olson. You have a much better character than she does. I suppose back then these were achieved by rag curling. There are two ways I would style these. One would be to pick or massage the roots to separate the curls and get a ton of volume. The other would be to brush out as you'd do a vintage curler set, into soft waves, and pin curl the bangs or make a bumper bang or victory rolls.

Bride toBe TV: Thanks Courtney won't waste my money on them now

Jojo Johnston: I used the pink and orange ones with gel and serum on damp hair- not soaking hair. Went to sleep with a satin head wrap to keep frizz away. And then just to be sure that my hair was dry, I put on a bonnet and used a hair dryer on low. The kind of bonnets made for use with hair dryers; they have a long arm. (My husband smiled at my curlers and then my bonnet.) I then let my hair cool completely before taking the curlers out. To keep from having a shiny gel head look, kind souls from other videos said to gently push your hair up towards your scalp-- not scrunch because that will likely cause frizz. Just push it up into itself. I found that's worked well for me! So I did that and then gently separated each curl into 4-5 chunks as I took each curler out. Brushing has always been a big mistake for me. Then I shook my hair a little from underneath rather than on top, a tip which also seems to help keep frizz away for me! I read to hit your hair with hairspray to keep moisture from causing frizz during the day, so I did that at the end. The orange and pink ones made quite a fierce curl. Literally felt like those Irish dancers! So I sprayed it with hair oil thinking it would drop them and look more wavy, and they have dropped very little half a day later!! Pretty amazing. I have aerosol hair oil. My husband bought it for me. Literally thought it was a giant can of cooking oil and was thinking, 'random but cute that you thought of me....' lol Anyway, I like how lightly it goes on! It isn't like a big splat. Edit loads of typos lol

Stephany Basney: If you want curly sue curls do this when your hair is soaking wet. I sleep in them though

Sam: These are like using strips of cotton sheets when I was a kid. Interesting

Miracle: Courtney please HELP! I am 3 months CG & its starting to show progress. The hair on the crown is 2c while the hair near the ears & nape of my neck is 2a. No matter how much I scrunch & apply products (cantu moisture & flax seed gel) the curls around my nape would get straight sometimes right after applying product. Please tell me what to do?

Roberta Tukerić: Does work twisted method on your hair?

My Crazy Life: NEVER sleep in them!! You will regret it. I speak from experience.

Patricia Warmoth: Beautiful

John316: God gave you way better curls. Biosilk hard hold gel helps it last. I now know not to kill my arms trying to put these things in

Kimmie B: Totally off topic, love your tee shirt! One of my current favorite songs.

Lab Lab: If you're going for ringlets, try rag curls. They're heatless.

Michelle O: Your natural curls/waves are way better. Not that your hair with the curl formers wasn't cute, but you get more for your effort when you work your natural curl pattern. How many of those thingies did you wind up using?

Jessica Brewster: Do you have a video on how you use Kinky Curly Original Curling Custard?

N L: You can try wave formers next......

Curly Haired Mermaid: Definitely think it looked better after brushing it out than right after taking them out.

Ann4U2000: Wayyyyy too much work!! LOL...your natural curls are pretty...

Anderita Martinez: Meh. I like your original wave pattern better

Gaelen de Klerk: Hi!! Are they soft enought to sleep in?

Marwa Regab: this looks like it would cause a lot of mechanical damage

Sharon Peckham:

New Day Yesterday: When you take them out, you'll want to not just pull them to full length, but actually straight, as in un-curling the former before you pull it out. If you watch the video, that is what you were unbeknowst doing when they came out easier. The times you only tried to elongate the former without straightening out the form, you had difficulties. Hope this makes sense.

Barbara Tretola: I tried them years ago and it didn’t work.

Payton Nicely: Courtney please use the official brand they work so much better

Seannah Krhysta Valenzuela: why mine is not working?

Angela Hovermale: i think your hair has too much moisture you need more protien

Curlie Girlie Hope: Those things suck. I had some and they didn't work

Seannah Krhysta Valenzuela: hat dod you put on your hair after puting the curlers?

Carolyn Picken: Not sure why you would need curlers...your hair is naturally beautiful

Paula Montoya: You had ringlets the first day

Larissa H: Gonna get ptsd from this song repeating 1000 times lol

Sharon Van Bavel: Yeah. Nah
