How To Repair Chemically Damaged Hair (Relaxed)

Hair damage can easily occur through daily styling, especially for chemically-processed relaxed hair. The most common damage: overprocessing (chemical, heat or manipulation). Today at Glambar in Atlanta, Georgia, Will Williams of Sofn'Free shows Porsha how to repair and maintain her relaxed hair that has been damaged by heat and chemicals.

I'M will I'm Foster and we're here today to show you how soft and free grow healthy works on damaged hair. She has had damage from chemicals now. Look when you're looking for damage. I just want to show you you see this right here now. These lighter spots right here indicates that there is cuticle damage. The cuticle has been damaged so much that the Sun is allowed to get in. Look you see this see how that cuticle is going back and upgrading on that hair. That means that there is so much increased porosity in that hair, that now the Sun can actually go in and change the color of the hair and the strength of her hair has been severely compromised. You can see it coming apart in my hands. We prepared her here by giving her a shampoo and we use our really deep conditioner. This is the first step when it comes in to repairing hair and the first line of defense when it comes to preventing hair damage, we're going to use the leave-in conditioning treatment with milk, protein and olive oil. I use the largest comb that I can find and I'm only going to use the first three or four teeth on the comb and I'm going to work my way up from the nape taking small partings as our comb, our hair. If we're going to use the world-famous hair strengthener, this is a miracle worker. The hair strengthener can be heat infused into the hair, I'm going to use the flat iron on a low setting, I'm going to try to get this completed at about 325 degrees. I want you to make sure that you tie your hair up in a satin cap, a satin scarf or a silk scarf and sleep on a satin pillow cover. Can you do that? For me, I'm saying six weeks your hair will be back to silky beautiful wonderful. What do you think questions you like it? I think it likes you as well.

Sashay 94: LMFAO!!! He said "You can see it coming apart in my hands." HUGE DIFFERENCE between something coming apart in your hands vs. you ripping something with your hands.

debbied95: Homemade: one/two eggs, parnevue leave-in conditioner, a couple of table spoons of shea butter, mayonnaise, olive oil. Mix all together. Put on her hair, and cover hair with a plastic bag. If your hair is really badly damaged, let it stay in for an hour. Rinse it out with cold water - hot water will cook the egg. Deep condition with deep conditioner of your choice. Do the protein treatment about twice a month until hair gets strong and elastic. Limit heat styling.

Adrienne Holliday: People need to realize though that when it's damaged it's damaged. You cannot undo destroyed hair. ..it's gone. Cut it instead of letting it break off.

ravenclaw91ful: my hair was a lot worse than hers. finally I realized that the length of my hair didn't matter, because it was thin, dry, and brittle. I cut all that crap off and never looked back :)

Patricia Starchia: Now correct me if I'm wrong- but how do you continue to use heat on already damaged hair ...

Linda Linda: Milk Protein & Olive Oil. I just started using it. Love the way it feels. So glad I came across Will Wiliams' video for hair. Thanks for the confirmation of this product. Blessings.

Aliyah Garner: I died a little when he ripped her goddamn hair off lmaoooo

sha sim: After applying the leave in and then the strengthening creme, do you allow the hair to dry before using the flat iron? Also, can a blow dryer be used instead of the flat iron

Nikki Jay: My hair was exactly like that except it was from heat damage. You wanna know what I did? I chopped it all off and now I'm going natural. Once it's gone, it's gone. Stop giving that girl false hope.

andrea colemann: "you can see it falling apart"...um more like i can see you ripping it apart...LOL :D

TheGlamFather: I think the video is informational but as a stylist myself, I want to see him flat iron that product into the hair like he said he would. They skipped that step so I do t trust that the product does what he says it does. I want to see if it's smokey when blown out. Which I'm pretty sure it is because that hair looked too saturated with product when finished. She didn't shake it after it was styled, which is so important to me as a celebrity stylist.

Nae Mitchell: I believe he did that because he was going to cut her hair anyway. They didn't show that part but you can see that it was cut into layers in the after pic

Xtrakoolness: Unfortunately, people think if your hair is shiny and feels soft to the touch, that means it is healthy. This is the work of the product and does not mean your hair is actually healthy from the inside out. He takes dead ripped up hair and gives it the appearance of health. But not actual health.

Marieknew: If her hair is damaged by HEAT and CHEMICALS wouldn't a break from those things be the only logical thing to do ?

Stephenna Jemae: Did he just break her hair off?!?!

R W: After an attempted curly perm done at a beauty school my hair is coming out in clumps. If I place my hands on it I have a hand covered in hair. I started out with a natural and now going bald. I'm angry because I know I'll have to cut it all off.

Se Tr: Well ladies, speaking from experience you DO NOT have to cut CHEMICALLY DAMAGED hair. Split ends on the other hand, definitely need to be cut or it will grow up the shaft. I damaged my hair with chemicals twice! Lol smh didn't learn my lesson the first time. I damaged it from over processing my hair through color, I did all these steps w/ naturals products (like eggs and olive oil) and after a month or so my hair was healthy, not the healthiest but healthy to eventually very healthy, even more than before I colored my hair. And recently I damaged it again attempting to put a relaxer in it, did the same steps but added a nexxus protein treatment, it's been 3 weeks and my hair feels back to normal. It really depends on your hair so before you cut CHEMICALLY DAMAGED hair it doesn't hurt to try and repair before you let all of your hair go. :)

magicgirl114: Depending on your damage it can be reversible

tinkermelle: First of all I was shocked to see him break her hair off OMG! I also agree with some of these ladies, you do not have to shave your head to start over... you could but you could also grow it out without flat irons and relaxers then cut off the dead ends once it grows to desired length. The guy in the video seems pretty educated but I didn't agree with the detangling at the root... thats gonna cause more breakage.

BlackLadyRockz: O__O if you pull her hair like that it would obviously "fall apart"!!! Some hair stylist pulled my wet hair like that and I nearly kill him... I walked out of the salon asap! I swear he cursed my hair with that o.o its incredible what people can do when its not their hair...

Camisha Amora: Agree! i have fell off of taking my hair properly cause I'm so use to wearing wigs. Now my shit is damage to the root. I blame myself, no chemicals.

CuteAndStylish92: My hair is not even damaged but this stuff would strengthen it so well.! I'd come to Atlanta, GA just to get my hair done from them and I'm all the way in NYC.

AlexaSoExtra: I couldn't stop rewinding when he pulled her ends off!

andrea colemann: I swear i cant stop laughing...how he just gon rip her hair out....Lls :D

Annastasia〈3: Great tips , thanks !!!

michaella palmer: can it be used on natural hair?

OomggitsSophia: Should I use the really deep conditioner during every time I wash my hair? I wash my hair every other day.

Shay Vidz: #1. He didn't rip it out. He was demonstrating how easy it is for it to break when damaged. Healthy hair will not break that easily. #2. This man is simply trying to promote his business. Any one that knows healthy natural hair knows that chemically damaged hair cannot be repaired. It can only be managed until it falls out or breaks. You will have to cut it all off and let your healthy natural hair grow back to get the pattern and texture you use to have. Even then, it still may not grow back as strong, due to the chemicals put onto the scalp. #3. This guy not only told her that her hair was damaged enough for it to be pulled apart but then continued to lead this girl into flat ironing her already chemically damaged hair. Lmao. smdh Sometimes you have to use your common sence people. Don't let these YouTubers have yall asses out here bald. OKAY??

samantha lang: It seems weird that he’s doing that but I’ve been there where they hair just comes off like that it’s almost like rubbery and just snaps with out and find of strength that normal hair has. It’s really stressful when it’s that damaged and it’s def a thing.

Aaa Fff: Daaaaamn, that man started ripping her hair lol.

YesAblackjessica1: glad i started doing my own hair...

93keirra: You dont need to chop off all your hair just discontinue using products that damaged your hair like relaxers, flat irons etc and just let your new growth grow until your hair is long enough as you desire then chop off the dead hair instead of walking around half bald

Janay23: I have a bottle of the milk and olive oil leave in spray at home! do you recommend that line of hair products? do they work best for african american hair?

Blessed and highly favored: Omg! How does a professional hair dresser RIP someone's ends out to demonstrate damage. Forget about the products. I would NEVER set foot in a salon where this was done. That's a law suit waiting to happen. I wish a @%*&# would rip my ends off like that!!!

Stacy Samms: can you do a video on how to keep natural (no perm) 4c hair moisturized and shinny

Anthony Fox: I'm gonna be real at first I was like why the hell is he ripping her hair off but it looks he gave her a haircut anyways so it's cool lol

Margie Tucker: You can repair damage hair if it's not severely damage... I damage my hair by curling the ends with curling iron.. I didn't want my hair cut so my beautician treated my hair once a week for about 6weeks and restored my ends.. I have no idea what she used on my hair but it worked.. So yes you can repair damage hair..

PackofDiscos: If you look at the way her hair is layered in the 'after' photos, I'm sure she had a cut or trim, so it doesn't matter than he 'ripped' her hair.

Jessalyn K: this is why I don't relax my hair anymore

dancerbabyy03: You can't fixed damaged relaxed hair. Once you've relax it, you've already damaged it.

O.M.A: basic rule - no flat iron on damaged hair!!! Apple cider vinegar also repairs high porosity

xXLikeAbosSXx09: so true. im glad i stopped believing that myth and actually did research. ever since i went natural and did my own hair, it's below my bra strap and thick now

leeza s: how often should this regimen be done?

thepomadeshop: I must say, I love the design of your shop!.

BunniJan: 99% of the comments is talking about how he's ripping her hair! 1% people talking about the video actually

Lana Howard: My goodness these products have A LOT of silicone (mostly synthetic) and mineral oils. They give the illusion that your hair is more silky and less damaged.

nlytend1: How much does this cost? I'm near Atlanta and I wanna get it done

Leggs: He combed from the roots down. That's a big no no for me chile. And Even if my ends are damaged Im gonna need you to not pull on them just to prove a point ok.

Cay Turner: What type of protein treatments do you use??

marion sanders: I could just tug little tug on my permed hair came and came out just like that damaged from perming overlapping so I cut it all off started over grew it passed my chin and repermed it again now I’m taking better care of keratin mask and now I can pull my ends and not come out

Nikki Jay: Yep, the hair that will be growing out of your head will not be damaged so it's going to be like how it was before.

SuBlueCious: i laughed when he started pulling on the ends of her hair

not-so-epic-human: im not a professional or anything but i think one of the first steps to repair hair is to cut it off (the damaged part)... thats what i do when i get split ends or something

AshamyBasha: Lmao falling part , more like ripping out

DivineTB: my heart dropped when he ripped her hair ....REPEATEDLY!

Change2be1: I think as women we make the mistake by when we see someone hair and then you want to know where they got it done. So you go to that beautician and alot of times they mess up your hair. I have been going to the same beautician for years and she has 20 years experience and I trust her with my hair and I know she wants my hair looking good because that represent her work. If you go to someone that don't know your hair in the end you can lose your hair, everyone is not a hair stylist.

Yvonnie Tran: Why he just ripped her ends like that.lol.smh. but anyhow, to help repair damaged hair its best to leave heat off of it as much as possible. That'll just literally make it worse.

Juliet James: OMG like I had a jheri curl done on my natural hair and like that was literally the first time a chemical touched my hair,I had it dome once and nowmy hair's starting to fall off I don't know if I should go on with the chemical and also try this treatment or stop the chemical try it like I don't know what to do

Abi Brima: lmao! I said the same thing...how you rip her ends off then condition and style it!!! a person would have thought he was going to cut or at least trim it

Gomez Addams: How often should i do this? i already got all the rpoducts, but it does not say how often

nthompe basiame: chemically damaged hair can be of many aspects eg heat, iron ,perms lotion according to me i v been a hair dreeser for almost a year

Chels D: What about split ends and thinning ??

TIA THOMPKINS: thats very true.im a stylist and u are correct.the best way to treat chemically damaged hair is to cut of as much as possible.also by treating the remaining hair, without using so much heat to prevent further break3age

Ashley B: I was at the pool for like 4 hours and my friend just put the the chlorine in the day before,.. So after two washes... The tips of my hair feels like "horse hair" (how my sister describes it) So now I'm scared if its damaged. It's really long like it reaches my hips. So is it damaged?

Glo M: I don't understand how did he start ripping her hair? Her hair was already damaged so there was no point in ripping into it.

mileycstar: I had my hair relaxed. My hair was in worse condition thnn hers. it would snap of the way hers, fall out, be split and no scisors were needed to cut them-all could be done with the use of a hand. But that's not the case. My hair is dead, people reccomended relaxing my hair. Now i luk bak to my hair length wen it was down to my backside and now its up to my arms.it is still damaged,i realy hope ppl realise a relaxer is filled with chemicals which kill of your hair automaticaly.Jus use straightened.

Carmen Lee: I'm mad he just did that to her ends without cutting it off!!

hayden korte: awkward moment when you test your own hair and it kinda snaps like hers :|

Dira501: You do not have to cut your hair in order to repair it!!!!

Dorothy Zbornak: Im laughing so hard. He so rough with her hair and he just pullin her hair out.

Rebecca P: thats why i'm going natural lol except my hair doesn't break like that o.O

Cassandra W: It’s not coming out in your hands it’s call you ripping her hair out

Denia Ware: You said it will take six weeks to repair the damaged hair. How often would this process need to be done for the repair to take place in six weeks?

Precious Sparkle: so if u do this procedure right and flat iron it if the individual doesn't take proper care of their hair will the parts that were straighten break of to?

Gabrielle K: When the hair is damaged thats it, you cant repair it, it has to be cut off

thelawofsinging: @ Entrapturing Yeah. Ok. We can see that there is damage but this video is more so about selling products. Ripping hair is unnecessary. Period. Also, any strand can rip if you pull it hard enough. Damaged or Healthy. I'm definitely not saying that her hair is healthy BUT, as far as I'm concerned, he exacerbated her damage. Sigh.

Mairah TaylorGangOrDie: How Often Should I Do This? Once A Week Or What

dorsome: i thought i was the only one who had damaged hair from keratin

MysTaria87: How do you still use a flat iron of already damaged hair... smh. The crazy thing is.. some people actually think this works. We have to learn more about our hair.

lala papa: That's not exactly true my hair was damage the same way but i used these products and now my hair is back to normal.

Donna Mills: I just want to say where you been at all my life I'm definitely going to try that product for my hair

Stella Metcalf: @thelawofsinging It's to show you how seriously damaged her hair was. And it was a tiny chunk of hair.

glazese: you should have come back after 8 weeks so we could see what her hair looked like.

Lacehairwigs: i love your products

Nikki Jay: You can grow it out a little and then cut it off. That's what I did.

Grrr oh my: hii i have a question. so my moms hair is relaxed but lately it is extremely extremely thin, it’s not dry, she moisturize it a LOT so it looks like a wet look all the time but it’s so thin and clumped together and not healthy it looks so damaged snd dead. soo.. ANYWAY, i want to help my moms hair bc i’ve been growing my natural 4c hair very much and healthy.. but i’m not too sure what to do. i wanted to give her a pamper day, also i’m a teen, what i was thinking was that I can wash her hair with shampoo/clarifying shampoo, and then my question is, should i use a deep conditioner to bring moisture, or a protein treatment? and then i will wash it out comb her hair oil her scalp put leave in and cream and braid it and i’m hoping it will help her hair

Nikkita178: js the only way to repair damaged hair is to cut it. what he's doing is like putting strengthener on a broken nail and expecting it to still grow long and healthy, not gonna happen. i used to have long beautiful waist length hair, but ive severely damaged it with chemicals. now it's fried and i have split ends up the ass. now i have to cut it off:( fml.

TevinGMedia: @andratoilee I HAVE A TEXTURIZER AND MY HAIR BECAME DRY AFTER WASH IT WITH THE NEUTRALIZING SHAMPOO that has SULPHATE/SULFATES in it and I had mixed white vinegar and conditioner and and I washed my hair with the the mixture and my hair has been soft ever since.

Pamm Meee: if it's not hydrolyzed protein, it doesn't penetrate the hair. and flat ironing already severely damaged hair?!

Brandi: I don't mean this rude in anyway at all I swear but can I use this on my hair? I am a white girl. And I just used this keratin treatment and it damaged my hair so badly and I really want to try these products but I didn't know if they would be okay to use on my hair type?

debbied95: I think everyone is taking this too far. He was just demonstrating the damage on a very small section of her hair. My daughter had hair almost to her waist, and we had it relaxed. Now it just reaches her shoulders. It was dry and had lost all elasticity. I have started deep conditioning it, and giving it protein treatments. I Check her elasticity by pulling a few strands from time to time. Sometimes the strands snap, but not as much as they used to. Her hair is softer and getting longer

Donna: I thought you suppose to cut damaged hair off. All he did was silken her hair up and damage it more by ripping her hair out. Plus I used these products. The minute I put it on my hair I hated it. Aweful products

ndiscatseyesic: That's messed up! My hair is short and damaged due to color so you all mean I need to shave my head in order to fix the damage oh dear God I will be bald :-(

L0velyLandy: @thelawofsinging I'm with you! Seeing him rip her hair like that made me cringe.

Mya Dixon: My hair is so not healthy anymore. And my mom doesn't help me take care of it since I got older, so now I have to take in all the responsibility and keep it growing strong and healthy :/

Rayuma Raya: It's all about selling product BS.

Faith Outlaw: Yes He Ripped It But You Have To Understand It's Brittle I'm Pretty Sure If She Tug Her Hair It Rippes Off As Well, It's Over Processed Damage Hair!

Idreamofjazzz: you cant repair damaged hair you have to trim or cut it off

Kashmere'Rxse: @OomggitsSophia not unless the deep conditioner is basically supposed to moisturize your hair because if not your hair will probably fall off or loose its protective layer and be dry and brittle

Cassandra W: The comments on here about him ripping her hair got me
