**DETAILS ABOUT THIS VIDEO**

These are pictures of me as a child, also in highschool, then college. These pictures show my hair when it was relaxed. I am sharing these photos to show that my hair has never been as long as it is now. I didn' t even know my hair could grow this long. The longest my hair would grow, was shoulder length, then it would fall out. Now, I am mid back length, only 4-5 inches from waist length. Me decidiing to go natural was one of the best decisions I have made for my hair.

So a question: I get a lot it's about my hair before going natural, so what I've done is found a bunch of pictures from the sa little girl in high school and college so that you guys can see what my hair looks like relaxed. So here are some pictures of me as a little girl. My hair was definitely not long. I would consider it to be average when compared to most little girls around that age. It'S not necessarily extra short, but it's definitely not long and yeah. That'S my big sister she's gon na kill me here are some pictures of me when I was in high school and this is actually the longest my hair had ever been relaxed and this is the lint my hair we get to and then break off and here's My hair in college, it was short in the Bob almost and here's the worst my hair ever was, and I was pregnant almost eight months. Prego and my hair was horrible because he is short and stringy, and here are my pictures during my transitioning period, and you can see my hair's finally starting to grow and kind of see, had a little curly, wavy thing going on and finally, my hair. Now in 2012 I transitioned for about seven to eight months and then finally did a big chops. So I have over three and a half years of hair growth. I'M currently mid-back length and my goal is to eventually reach wasteland thanks for watching ruskin come and a thick derriere

Alicia James: Yes, it was really hard in the beginning for me, especially during my transition. I didn't know how to comb through my hair. It was really frustrating for me. It took time for me to get used to dealing with my new hair, but it was worth the time! :) ❤

Alicia James: Congratulations on your big chop! My advice is to show it some tender loving care. Be patient with it, do your research, learn YOUR hair, create a basic regimen and be consistent. Good luck on your journey, really excited for you! :) ❤

Dominique Cheylise: This is so inspiring! Now that I see the benefits of going natural AND how much easier it is, I'm going to do it.

SpoiledCurlyGurl: I sooo love your hair! you are inspiring me so much. I am trying more protective styles this year, about 60-70% of the times also and hope to see good growth by April 2013, marking my 3yrs since my big chop!! Thanks for the lovely video

1themusicgurl: I've been a year natural so far and my hair has grown so much. I did the Big Chop and cut off all my relaxed hair and i was so short, i couldn't even braid it. But now my hair is down to my collar bone. I want it down to my armpit so hopefully by the 2nd or 3rd year i'll reach my goal! Woohoo! <3 <3 Wish me luck <3 <3

breezybre11breezy: You're such an inspiration ! :-) Thank you so much for sharing these videos !

Joy Norman: Alicia, your hair is so beautiful! I just love watching your videos.

Alicia James: @niquexo During that time, protective styling started to play a big part in my regimen. I wear protective styles over 60-70% of the time. :)

Alicia James: Hi! info on my regimen and hair growth is in the description box for you! Hope you find what you are looking for! Thanks for watching! :)

Alicia James: All methods remain the same. If you want to retain length, keep the hair clean and moisturized, deep conditioning/hot oil treatments, low manipulation, protective styling, a consistent regimen, showing the hair a lot of tender loving care. :)

Alicia James: Awesome! Good luck on your journey! :)

tamoniva12: Your hair looks gorgeous.

wenzile fuyane: wow.... 0_o I will be patient...I will be patient...I will be patient (and one day it'll grow) just BC'd in April after transitioning for about 6months. You are an inspiration!

Tam Francis: Your hair is awesome and you have a great voice!

lisablisa: Inspirational! Wonderful collection of pictures

Alicia James: Two strand twist are my go to style and bunning. :)

niquexo: When you were going from sl to apl, how many days out of the week would you say you used a protective style?

MusicluverGirl13: wowwwwwww!!!! i wish my hair would grow like that :(

Ready.Set. Bake!: you look beautiful in all of those photos:)

drislandgirl: when you get to waist length will you maintain that length with trims or keep growing?

Alicia James: Hi! Sure your hair can grow without the big chop! There are many naturals who went through a long term transition before going fully natural. You can let your hair grow without the relaxers, and slowly trim the relaxed ends as you go. Check out Nik Scott, she has a great book on how to go natural without the big chop! :)

Jesusislove150: wow. gorgeous hair. thanks for sharing

dANIELLElOVE: How do you prevent your hair from breaking.when its long?

kharyzma4u: thnx 4 sharing! this is so inspirational. u have a beautiful head of hair!!!

Yvonna W.: You def don't have to do the big chop, if you have patience. Some girl wait after six months and other a year or some just transition the whole way. Just grow your hair out and go with the flow I might cut mines after 16 months. I recommend waiting at least a year then see how you feel if you want more just keep growing it out. Also, you should start in the summer that way if you ever want to chop it off u have the warm summer to experiment with wet and go look. good luck!

DimplesDeep1: Awww such a sweet video...short & sweet! Thanks 4 sharing!

RedLori: wow gorgeous! i really must be doing something wrong lol

Naturally High: Love your hair!!!!!!

Millan Grant: I'm contemplating whether to go natural or not, but i don't want to do the big chop. I was wondering is it possible for my hair to grow without the big chop? It's a little pass my collar-bone now but i would like for it to grow much longer.

Violet Skies: Wow.. Your hair is a lot longer natural than it was relaxed.

Godschildyes Brown: YOU GO GIRRLLLL!

Taryn Hicks: Amazing. I want to be MBL. I am just a couple inches away. I have longer legs and a shorter torso, so it wont take as long for me as some people.

Macy Gray: your hair is GORGE!

Blacknatural08: I love your hair it's beautyful miss lady. I have a question for u because I just don't know what to do about it. I am having a big problem with keeping length I have been natural 3 years now and my hair is no where near long. What could I be doing wrong? I have learned how to keep moisture in my hair thank god lol but now how do i keep length?

Alicia James: @Blacknatural08 Hi! Thank you sooo much! It would be hard for me to know. I would have to know more about your regimen. :)

SWEETGA BROWNIN: thanks for sharing...those pictures brought back some good childhood memories...XOXO

Alicia James: @bruine24 I may do trimming, I have layers, and I want my hair to eventually all be the same length. :)

Quiana Green: Well my question is how much is the "big chop" I really just don't want to cut ALL of my hair off. Do you have any pics of how short you cut your hair? Is it necessary to cut it all the way down or can I just cut it in like a short bob to past my ears or something? I want to go natural but I've never had short hair and I will probably freak out LOL

Elsie Williams: i l love your hair, it's beautiful.

Beautygurl: i have been MBL all my life and i am now thinking of going natural to try out all those styles i am seeing/change ,, i am not the protective style type though , do all naturals have to do that ? i dont like weave or corn row

Alicia James: Thank you very much! :) ❤

Dani M: You daughter has you eyes ! She looks like you when you was little

Sherri Alexander: Thanks for sharing. 8-)

Alicia James: I didn't think my hair would grow like that...just as surprised as you are! Took time and learning, but it happened! :)

CharliGirl868: very nice...thanks for sharing.

Gladys Grace: The pic with you in the yellow top as a little girl totally looks like your daughter now. Same cute little face:).

sunnyday7958: i want to go natural my hair is bob length but without a perm my hair is just unmanageable did you have the same problem

TheSakuralicious: you said you use mainly protective styling...what styles exactly do you use?

Alicia James: As often as neede, usually twice a year. :)

Sassafras: aww...look at that cute happy little girl cheesing all hard lol

antoinette brown: I am with the lady below;)

javanity08: Looking like Niecy from Moesha in the college pic with the yellow shirt.

Alicia James: @gladeemarie LOL! Yes, my twin! :)

Alicia James: @slimchelle ha haa! Yes! :)

Alicia James: You don't have to do the big chop. There are a lot of people who go natural without the big chop! My hair was maybe 4 inches after my big chop. Search Youtube for "Alicia James - Long Natural Hair Growth Part 5" this shows my big chop, and how my hair evolved over time. I understand not wanting to go all out, it was a shock for me, and everyone else around me when I did it! LOL! :) Good luck!
