In this DIY long layered haircut tutorial, I'll show you how I cut long layers in my hair at home. It's so easy! All you need is 4 rubber bands, 5 minutes, a brush, a pair of hair cutting scissors and it's go time. Come along!

Hey guys. In today's video, I'm gon na show you how I cut my hair at home.. Now I've done videos in the past, where I showed you how I trim my bangs and also how I maintain my double side shade, but I've never shown you guys how I cut the length of my hair into long layers.. Today, I'm going to be cutting off about 5 inches and I'll show you what the process looks like from start to finish.. You can see that I have quite a few split ends and my hair is definitely going to benefit from this cut today.. If you're going to be trying, this do-it- yourself, hair cutting technique at home you'll want to make sure that you've water-washed your hair, that it's dried and that you've straightened it as much as you can.. After my hair has been washed and dried and straightened. I make sure that I have my professional hair cutting scissors three durable hair bands and my hairbrush ready to go. Using my hair brush, I'm going to gather my hair at the top of my head and move my ponytail forward to the top of my forehead.. Keep in mind that the positioning of your ponytail in the front of your head is actually very, very important.. If you want to keep more length in the back of your hair, you need to secure your ponytail further down on your forehead.. If you're trying to create more layers in the front of your hair, you'll want to move this ponytail a little bit further back. Once I pull my hair tight and securely fasten it in the middle of my forehead I'll. Take my second rubber band. Go about halfway down keeping my hair, tight and straight I'll secure a second hair tie.. Keep in mind that if your hair is different lengths that the hair at the top is actually going to represent the hair that will be in the back of your head., Once you've used this method to cut your hair. The first time, all of your hairs will be the same length and you'll have a better idea in the future. How much you need to cut off to make sure that the layer in the front of your hair falls where you want it to and that your length is still as long as you want it to be., Because I want to cut off approximately five inches of Length I'm going to position. My third hair tie right about here., I'm going to be cutting my hair just above this lower hair tie. So I want to make sure that there's about four inches below the hair tie leaving space for that additional inch to be taken up by the hair tie itself. Now keep in mind that this is a layered hair cut. So, where you position, this cut, that's going to determine where that first layer falls on the front by your face. And there we go. I've got a straight-across blunt cut.. Next up I'll, be splitting this ponytail into two sections. I'll. Take my professional scissors, we'll trim the ends a little bit and make sure that it has an even look all the way across., Because I have a double side. Shave hairstyle. I tend to have significantly less hair than other people who have a full head of long hair. So two of these hair bands works for me.. Again I try to pull the hair straight and tight before securing it., Using just the tip of my scissors. I'M going to point up into the ends of my hair and trim just a little bit evening out that blunt cut., These edges are so soft.. I love it., Okay, so we'll do that again on the second side., Once we've evened out the ends on both sections we'll take out our hair ties. Nice. Oh I love it.! Oh, Oh I love it. I love it. You can see that that shortest layer in the front does fall here, which is just what we were expecting.. I still have quite a bit of length, even though the hair is so much softer and healthier now.. Here'S what it looks like from the back.. It'S still really long and with all of those dead ends cut off. It looks so much healthier and it feels so much nicer to the touch. Five inches of hair is gone.. My hair feels fantastic, and I love that this method is so easy. Anybody can do. It., If you're nervous about trying this cut for the first time yourself at home and you're, not really sure if you're gon na get your ponytail in the right spot, it only takes a minute to set this up. So if you have a little bit of time, you can play around with your ponytail positioning until you find just the spot that you want to get the layer to the length that you're going for.. Stephani Beeson: Wow ty so much for this! My hair was so long & I was scared to do it cause I had to take almost 12 inches off just to get it back to where I wasn't pulling my own hair when I sat down! But your hair came out so nice so I got brave enough to try it & I absolutely love it!❤❤❤

Jennifer Lynn - Weathered Sunflower: Just did this to my hair & OH MY GOD I'm in love!!

Pamela McManus: Omg girl I've watched several videos on how to cut hair with pony tail elastic bands and your hair looks the best it's any video girl you really did a great job I love it I'm going to try this

Amy Harvey: I have long hair (since I have been quarantining for the last year) with the bottom 6" that grew out being fried from a bleach job I did myself. My question is, if I use your method and cut a lot shorter, would I end up with a short "shag", like I want? Thanks for any insight. Amy x

Denise Gustafson: That turned out really pretty!

linda alden: This only works on long hair, if hair is shorter say just past shoulders the layers round the face come out too short, be warned

Cordelia H: I haven’t had my hair cut since November 2019...luckily my highlights grew out really well so I don’t need to venture into bleaching or hair dye...yet But my hair length was getting sooo long and ugly (almost at my butt and I’m 6ft tall!). I found your video, ordered hair cutting scissors from ulta and just tried this tonight. It worked SO well!! Took about 6 inches off and it looks so beautiful. Thank you so much for this video

Vicki McCarthy: Oh my gosh. Most precise and to the point video I’ve come across!! Thank you. Going to go do this now !

Fabian Berg: That's how I cut my layers for 13 years (yes, I am a male with thick, long, curly hair) :D.... Today's kids call this technique the "one minute mullet challenge" on tik tok :D none of these cuts look like mullets, just like layered hair... But no one gets the difference. I am 23 and feel old now :D
