Saturday morning, everybody it's Trevor Thompson, the self-appointed Looney Tunes critic - and this is a commentary request, as will be many of the the cartoons that were going to be doing in the next few months. This one was requested by Darren, Heitmann and Darren. I hope you enjoy this layouts by Holly Pratt Holly Pratt. Let me just take some time to talk about the good ol Holly Pratt. I'M not a fan of frizz, I'm just gon na get it out there, which is to say that he's my least favorite director for Warner Brothers, but - and I think that's the best way to say at least favorite, because one of my favorite cartoons of all time Is a first cartoon and that's I've already done a commentary for it. It'S called Birds Anonymous, but one of the reasons I I it's not a reason. I don't like him now, but as a kid I was very big on the idea of the the layout driven. You know character, layout, driven direct director style, which is you know. The Chuck Jones Robert McKimson style of you know, draw drawing most of the character layout poses yourself, meaning that the characters look like that that directors, art style and incompetent, Ashland's and even Texas case the characters do resemble their drawing style, but very seldom are any of The those directors actual drawings used in the cartoon itself, in the way that McKimson and chuck jones would do stuff but Holly Pratt, Holly Pratt is very underrated and I would say it's fair to say that he's Friz Freleng'he's ghost artist, but we real quick. Let me just pause for a second hon, my rambling, about Paula Pratt and just say that this this gag here was cut out of, I think, a lot of the ABC versions of this. This cartoon Bugs Bunny and Tweety, show and stuff like that, but anyway yeah. If you um, if you bought any of those Serie cells, those Friz Freleng Serra cells, that were all the rage in the 90s, congratulations, you bought. I mean you, but you probably bought for his feelings, signature, which is I'm sure worth something. I love the hugs his tippy-toeing up there also real quick. I want to bring this up to listen to the way Sam says, shut up yeah I got cut off right there. I thought for a long time as a kid I thought he I thought he said the S word, I'm saying the S word just because I don't have time to de bleep this cartoon later so um but yeah. If you bought one of those serie cells in the 90s from Fred's, congratulations, you bought a holly Pratt cell. I mean everything and I mean everything that phrase drew. Maybe 1940 mid 1940s, you know was pretty much Holly Pratt by the way. Look at Sam's lip they're, not not there, but the shot before Looney wikki wikki wikki, a -- whatever it is. Looney wiki has claims that this cartoon is the first cartoon where Sam has the mustache and beard rather than just the mustache for the entire cartoon, and indeed that is not the case, because we just saw that with that previous shot. But yes, Holly Pratt Holly Pratt is his frizzes Friz Freleng personal drawing style. If you ever saw it, he never progressed past the the thirties. You know style the the circles and you know rubber hose style so when he would when he would do characters get you know, Story sketches and stuff like that. It was always - and you know like bugs, would look like happy rabbit. Basically, I love Sam's little apron. A little girly apron that he's got so, let's take a moment here to continue discussing the artistry of this cartoon and take take some time to talk about the uncredited animator John Carey, not to be confused with the the other John Carey that we we all know And well I'll just leave it at no, and we know it but John Carey. I you rarely see him getting credit for animating, and the weird thing is the strange thing about that is that he he has a pretty interesting to stick distinction, which is that he started in the early days and 30s and the his career as an animator ended. This year 1951, this is probably the second or third last cartoon that he did, but he only animated for Warner Brothers and he in fact, hang on Mia yeah. He began in 1935 and he worked with all the directors Clampett Norma cabe, but then, when he left in 1951 he became a comic book artist, and I tell you, I spent a good good portion of my morning trying to find I'm trying to find. You know information, you know, pictures and stuff like that, I'm of the opinion that he may be used a different name like a like a artists name, but an artist name is not John Kerry. That'S a that's a politician's name! So yeah this. This joke coming up here where Sam says the The Cabin in the sky. That line - that's, that is a reference to a movie, was a movie and it was a play too. I believe oh gosh darn it I'm out of time. Don'T you know? Well, folks see you next Saturday, you

EMC Video Productions: I can see where you're coming from, but I still enjoyed many of Friz's shorts for their timing to music, slapstick, witty banter and snarky tones. You don't always need the most stylized visuals to prove you're great at your craft, sometimes just having fun stories and harmonious soundtracks is more than enough. Of course that's just my opinion, but then again I ain't no cynic.

drawwing: great commentary track. I want to throw out there that Friz's directing genius is often over looked because his talents lie in structure. he structures a gag and or story point in a style that is much closer to Tex Avery. Chuck Jones was so occupied trying to make the the drawings look like his, while Friz is better at delivering a complete picture. racketeer rabbit 1946 is a great example. The gag routine is perfectly timed and executed. This cartoon The Fair Haired Hare is no exception.

MaMcMu: 2:22 Listen closely- "Let go of that rabbit!" Sam was actually trying to _save_ Bugs.

Vincent Franklin: Playin" possum fer twenty yars!!! Lol! Love that line!

Clurk Roberts: Great background info on Warner artists and their careers, you always provide unique insights... thanks

Regal99: I'm happy this is back up. I'm still blown away one of my suggestions made it in.

womobewo: How about a couple of my favorites, “Wild Wife” and “Rocket Bye Baby”?

Felix Leidig: im so glad this cartoon is restored

ddoyle11: So glad you’re back!!

Warner Bros and Disney vhs dvd BluRay Treasures: I have this short on VHS as part of bugs bunny truth or hare
