How I Cut My Hair In Layers ... At Home!! | Long Layered Hair Cut Diy

Hey Loves! Here is a tutorial on how I achieve my short layers in long hair while keeping the length and thickness! Super easy once you get the hang of it. I am NO professional, but I just get better results when I cut my own hair. I have layers all over, and I love it!

Be Careful when cutting your own hair....Go slow and cut little bits at a time :) I personally have had the WORST experiences while going to the salon to get my hair cut. 1 inch trim ends up being a 4 inch cut, and I don't like it when they start to thin out my hair...after I tell them not to. I once asked for layers, and the guy cut my hair where one side of my face - the layers were shorter than the other! So I decided to cut my hair myself, and have LOVED the results. I control how much I want to cut, how many layers I want, the thickness I want...and it comes out perfect every time!

This cut is basically long layers in long hair, with a few shorter layers on top for extra volume and lift naturally. I also have face framing layers.

Hi guys welcome back to my channel in today's video, I'm gon na, be showing you guys how I cut my hair. Now I have a lot of layers: the shortest ones, starting by my chin, going all the way down to my lower back and I'm just gon na show you how I keep up with it, and I like to cut my own hair, because it's just I cut It the way I want and it's a lot less hair than the people at the salon cut, because you know they cut off way more than you tell them to so. The first thing we're gon na do is straighten our hair and then split it down the middle all the way to the back and then what I'm gon na do is take it from the middle of my head down to my ear and I'm gon na part That off and tie it up to the top and I'm gon na do the same thing. On the other side, this is gon na, be the section where our face-framing layers are gon na be, and then we're gon na take one section from the back and I usually brush this all the way up and I keep brushing it until it forms a natural Diagonal shape, which is the secret to my layers, see the diagonal shape right there. I kind of just go with that guideline and I cut like I cut upwards just because it's less of a blunt cut and it blends so beautifully when you do that. It just looks really really pretty so I'm gon na keep doing that until I get my desired diagonal shape and I'm gon na show you right here how the layers just cascade down. I love this. Look it's it's so pretty and it just frames the face so beautifully and it when you cut it like that it blends really well too so we're gon na do the same thing with the other side, I'm going to brush it all up and over to the Other side a little bit and I'm gon na keep brushing until I feel like the diagonal. The natural diagonal shape comes up, and if you don't have a natural diagonal shape, you can always create one. That'S the secret to the layered. Look that I have is just cutting in a diagonal shape and then basically just cutting upwards. So, as you can see, my layers in the back are done. I was super easy for my bottom section. Now we're going to just bring it all to the front and measure both sides to see if they are the same, it's not too hard. Once you get the hang of it once you do it a couple of times. It'S pretty easy, and so the next thing I'm gon na do is bring down my front layers and I'm going to take this and brush it up. I'M gon na take it straight out in front of me and then I'm going to cut diagonally and I'm gon na snip upwards and then here I do a little different step. I will bring all the hair down just to blend in the layers and I'm going to start trimming that here you can go as short as you want to. I usually, like my front part to be a little lower than my chin and then have it just blend into the back layers. Remember to cut little bits of hair at the time. Just because, if you cut a lot and you do make a mistake, it'll be a lot harder to fix, whereas if you cut little bits of hair, it's a lot easier to control it, and here I'm gon na take the next side and it's okay. If some hair falls down because well, if you're going for shorter front layers like I am, then it's okay for some of the hair to fall out and I'm gon na find the natural diagonal shape and cut that now. If you don't have that natural diagonal guide, you can go ahead and create one to get the layered. Look that I have and I'm gon na pull down all the hair and just blend the layers together, and I'm only cutting little tiny bits at a time. As you can see, I'm gon na measure everything to see if everything is the same on both sides and then here I'm taking the hair from the middle of my forehead too. My crown area and and I'm gon na bring that to the front and trim that what this does is kind of gives me more volume in the middle of my head and then I don't have to tease my hair as much so I'm just gon na. Let down all the hair blend everything together, kind of look it over and I'm gon na take a section from my crown, and this is the most important step in all my haircuts. Is this section I'll take that and I'll brush it forward and to him that so it's smaller than the rest of my hair and the reason I do this is because this step makes my hair look a lot more voluminous than it really is because the shorter Layers don't get weighed down and since it's on the top it just makes my hair look a lot, fuller and bouncy, and it's just I love I. This is like my favorite step, so the next step is optional, but I always like to do this. I will take chunks of my hair from the top and just kind of bring it forward and just blend the layers together. Just so everything is more neat and blended and not like blunt cuts, and here I'm just gon na measure. My layers see if everything is the same on both sides and everything looks good. Everything in the back looks good and I'm gon na take a little mirror and also look at the back, and the results are looking good a lot better than if I had went to a salon. Since I cut my hair exactly the way that I wanted to now keep in mind, I'm not a professional, I didn't go to school for this or anything. I learned this all on my own with trial and error, so cut your hair at your own risk. Be very careful and go very, very slow, and I hope you guys enjoyed this video leave a comment down below and give me a thumbs up. So I know that you guys liked it and I will talk to you guys, a minutes, video and don't forget to subscribe. If you haven't already, I do try to get new videos out every single week, for you guys, and I will talk to you in my next video bye.

Catrina Lynne: I've never cut my own hair and I hate salons. your video made it look sooooo easy. so I followed your steps step by step and I did it. it came out sooooo good. I took over 3 or 4 inches total and I now have long beautiful layers. thank you so much!

SKIK: You nailed it, girl! I've been cutting my own hair most of my adult life and this is the best cut I have ever tried. Thanks so much!

Kimberly Robinson: This was a easy-awesome tutorial on layer cutting. I have done a similar technique, but this is so much easier! Thank ya Lady!

Darshini B: Beautiful and very clear steps and instructions. Thanks fr this tutorial; it's been a lot easier than the other videos I watched

Sherry Hauser: I've cut my own hair the last few times and I am so much happier with the results than I would at the salon. Thanks for the new tips on how to get those perfect layers.

Cicely Sawin: Love this video and simple technique. Your favorite step that gives the volume is exactly what my hair needs! I haven't been to a salon since I was 13. I'm now 39. I always cut my own hair and very similar to what you did but I'm gonna do it exactly like this right now! I'm excited! :-) Thank you!!

vanessa naidoo: Just tried it. Thank you. I now have amazing, free flowing layers.

BarbieLeni: Great tutorial!! Thanks for uploading this video!! It's waaay better than other's hair cutting tutorials! It's really helpful and I'm gonna try it! ☺☺

SHIELA GOPAUL: Hey Sheetal... I just love those easy to follow steps to cutting my own hair.I am going to apply what I've seen in this video clip when cutting my hair. Hope it results in the same bouncy free style look as do yours.Thanking you sooo much.

Veronica Castaneda: Thank you so much for this I cut my hair exactly the way I like it :) ! Followed every step , super easy!! So glad I found your video !

Destini Peters: Very helpful. Thank you. I've been cutting my own hair for years but never mastered my layers, and anytime I went to the salon they mess it up with one weird short layer and that's it. It turned out wonderful. Something you didn't mention but I noticed was with the back layers you cut the diagonal with the peak away from your face and for the front face framing, layers you cut with the peak towards your face. I only mention it because I did not have a diagonal to start with and it makes a difference. Thanks again. Super happy with my hair right now.

adelle: Love it! My hair was the same length as yours. I went to a salon 6 weeks ago and the lady cut about 2/3", kinda kept the length but when I asked her for that feathery razor choppy ends she was like "Yes! I can do that" but in the end my layers weren't feather like, more straight across As soon as I get those inches back I'm DEFINATELY using your technique! That you so much!!

Jaclyn Z: Thanks for the tutorial ! I always have a bad experience at salons where they take too much off and have tried watching a few videos on here before and it came out bad- this one worked great !

Bella: this video is by far the easiest and most effective hair cut tutorial I have see on YouTube . thanks so much for sharing your tips with us.

Emily Lawson: This is the first "cut your own hair at home" video that I have watched that actually turned out beautifully. Good job :)

Blondie New Jersey: Great tutorial - You definitely showed how to have the long layered look accomplished the way I want my layers to look but at the salon, they just do not get my hair to look like this.  Great job and I am definitely going to try it.  Thank you for sharing your video ;)

Gretchen Cornwall: Thank you very much! We've all had the same experience when going to the salon. I'm trying to grow it out and they keep cutting it too short! X

Eliza Wong: Gorgeous! Thanks for the tutorial!

Michelle Clarkson: Thank you!!!This is the exact cut that I want❤️

Memaw’s in the Kitchen: Tried your method. For the first time EVER my hair is cut the way I wanted it!!!! Thanks for posting this video.

Sara: I always use youtube videos to cut my hair. I did yours tonight and I am THRILLED with how it came out. Thank you for posting :D it's my new go-to for sure

Sandra: I really like the way you cut your hair it looks fab. I have been looking for ages for someone brilliant like yourself to demonstrate how to cut layers into long hair with emphasis on the top of the hair. I have had a go and it looks great. Thank you Beautiful lady! You are a legend! Thanks again :) Sandra in Sydney Australia.

Monika perez: I really love your technique! Looks awesome!

Debra C: This is the easiest and best tutorial I have seen! Thank you!

Lisa Potter: Thanks so much!! All the heaviness is gone and it's bouncy again!! I've been growing it out for length and it was so heavy! Thanks again!

Meand Lia: Thank you!!! My daughter's hair is almost identical to yours (thickness, length, style) and she hates going to the salon because while she's excited about 'getting her hair done', she dreads how much they are going to cut. I have cut my hair, but it's just long straight simple snip snip and done - her hair is layered almost naturally really and just thick beautiful hair. So I am excited to try your technique and am happy to have found such a well detailed video to help me out! :)  You rock!

Holiday Happy: I did this. My hair is much shoerter, just below the shoulders and it still worked great. Thanks for the vid.

Carla Potter: looks great, I used to be able to cut my hair where even the mistakes looked good. But over the years the hair gets brittle and extremely full and then everything shows. But you did a great job. thanks for your video.

Rocio Martinez: Awesome I love it. I kind of do the same thing. But I think that for those that are trying it for the first time. Your very good at explaining it all to the point. Good job, I loved your video Beautiful!

Karen1Nicola: You just earned yourself another subscriber!! Must have watched hundreds of "layer cutting" vids in the past few weeks, but none gave results like this with such little fuss! Will definitely be trying it out soon :-)

Anima Anand: Tried this out after watching a lot of videos and it turned out awesome !!. Thanks a lot...

Mayra Lopez: I was watching this video like around 10:30pm today, I thought about cutting my hair using this video and I did! Now it's 11:02pm and I just got done showing off my haircut to my husband! my hair looks cute! pretty and layered long but without the ugly split ends! I'm so glad I took the risk! I hate going to the salon because they don't listen! Now I will cut my own hair all the time so it will grow even longer! thank you so much for this video! liked and subscribed after seeing the results! To all women that are having doubts, think about it; If you go to a salon you still have a chance of not liking your haircut, might as well try this method first but cut half an inch to start... if you fail then you can still go to the salon and get your hair screwed by them lol

Kyriaki Fokianou: Hello! Your hair is amazing and I really love your haircut! Thanks for sharing this! I would like to try this but as I'm quite new to the DIY haircut team I have a question: would this work to completely straight hair with no layers at all? You follow the diagonal guideline which I guess you can see because you already have layers right?

Arya Nair: Totally gonna try this right now! Thanks a ton xoxo

S Reynolds Vance: Great hair cutting tips!! I watched two of your videos and gave myself the best haircut ever! Thanks!

Throughout my 48 years of different hair dressers and DIY attempts its been challenging finding the right person or DIY video that is best for me and my hair type.  I have watched many DIY YouTube videos on cutting and layering long hair and I commend your style and love how you FF the movements we  really don't need to see in real time. I have probably stopped more videos than watched because of them dragging out each step and probably missed some good info but thanks for your video and I am giving it a shot tonight....so thank you and wish me luck!!

My hair would be butchered after trying to make sense of this :( It would be much more helpful if you just slowed down and elaborated more on what you're doing.
