Hi, my name is jenny striebe and today i'm going to talk about bobby pins, we're going to get back to the basics on this one now i recently came across some false information about how bobby pins are applied, and i just want to go ahead and clear. All this information up for you guys with a few different tips and techniques all right, so first things. First, let's talk about the brand of your bobby pins. Now i picked this up at sally's beauty supply. This is the marina brand. Now this is a professional grade. Bobby pin you definitely want to go with a professional grade bobby pin just don't go to the drugstore and pick anything cheap up. You want to spend a little bit of money on your bobby pins. Now, if you use a cheap, bobby, pin you're not going to get the longevity of the bobby pin as you would a professional one, you could probably use it one or two times but you're not going to be able to use it much more than that. So these guys right here at sally's, beauty supply. You can use over probably 20 times and you can still get usage out of them. So these are awesome. Now recently, when i came across the false information that i found on the web about bobby pins, they are claiming that the wavy side goes down now. First of all, the lip of the bobby pin points downwards. It'S kind of at an angle. So if you were to put that in the hair, that's actually going to make the hair bobby pin bow out so really it doesn't really make too much sense to me. Also now i picked up a decorative bobby pin at sally's beauty supply. You can see this cute little jewel, it has on it. The jewel is actually on the wavy side. So if you were to put it on the wavy side down, then you would hide the decorative side right. Okay, now i'm going to show you guys a couple, different techniques of how to apply the bobby pin. So i'm just going to take a section of hair and you always want to slightly twist the end just to secure it and with the wavy side down in this case. You want to point it down push it up, weave the hair through and then push it back down and that's really going to secure the hair. Now i'm going to go ahead and show you a different way to put the bobby pin in this is going to be the crisscross way. So you're going to put this at a slight angle and then you're going to take another bobby, pin and you're going to go on top crisscross it to really help secure it. Now this technique works really well with updos um or if you had a section of hair to kind of go over it because you don't really want to necessarily see the crisscross in there, but that's just a way. That'S going to really help secure that hair. That'S not going anywhere if you were to do the other way. The wavy side down see how that's kind of coming off there, since the bobby pin has that curve to it. It'S actually bowing away from the scalp. Instead of going with the bend of the head shape, so i don't know, i call false on that one alright, so there you guys have it a few easy tips and techniques to apply the bobby, pin properly for more information and tips about hair. Haute 18: I came here for the "X" shaped style . Kinda like how anime girls do their hair. I'm so really glad to find this channel.

Katherine Rand: Love this. I am always having my Bobby Pins fall out. I often put a small piece of my bangs back on one side. I never knew how to secure i and I was putting the wavy side down! Now I know how to do it properly and can't wait to try it out tomorrow! Thanks for this video!

Sammi k: I've been trying to do this for months and I finally can do this by watching this video!Thank you^^

Da Kanon: This is great, I've been trying to pin back a side of my hair, and it only lasts a couple hours before it loosens and falls, the crisscross has helped keep it secure. I've never understood the twisty up then down method

TheSLappe1: I've been doing it wrong all these years.  Just found your channel.  Glad I did!

Dawnie T: Thanks! So easy... now I can do this right!!

Kelley L. O'Neill: I did a little self test when I first saw the wave side down thing and I found that, for me, it works better. It grabs the hair better and stays in place better. And it did not stick out the way you show. Not even a little bit.

Trisha Luedecke: Ever since I stared using bobby pins "upside down", they work and last. I would argue that decorative baby pins are made the way they are because people think the wavy part goes up. It seems to me the uses you displayed were really jobs to be done with a barrette bobby pins should be used for up dos and the like. If you want to pin back you hair just use a snap barrette it easier and will hold better.

TheLynnNat: Thanks for the tips! More videos like this please!! :)

MimiCoolWhip5: Thank you for these tips! I have struggled with getting my pins to stay in place and have tried to follow other video how tos without sucess(doesnt mean they gave bad advice mind you) Ive even tried the way you mentioned doesnt work and youre totally right! Thanks! I will check out your other videos!

laurie ann wilks: I have always had a hard time using bobby pins and they never stay in my hair plus they cross over or bend where they do not open,"cheep pins" never had this problem years ago and i see why now. I will go to a beauty supply place to find better quality pins. Thank you so much and i like the trick you showed in twisting your hair and placing the pin. Logic says it all! about going with the curve of the pin and the curve of the scalp., and you are correct.

Sherry YANA: Am I the only person in 2019 who doesn’t understand how Bobby pins work , I’ve tried watching about 20 vids but they all say the useless things

jade huffer: The whole wavy side up thing doesn't work for me because if the wavy side is up the part that points up sticks out of my head. When the wavy side is down it works better for me because then I can use the lip to scoop more hair so I can pin all of my hair down.

Masked Maiden: I see no point in buying expensive bobby pins when I lose them so quickly anyway...

Katie Fen: thanks great tips ,really clear to me now!

Michele Savinsky: Thanks so much very helpful love your videos. Can you please due a video on how to use a texture spray such as Oribe correctly? Or any dry shampoo?

SARAH MILE: OMG! i wondered why the bobby pins always fell off! thank you so much for this video! lol

NoRa: Thank you for the tips! Looks obvious to me now, but It wasn't the case before I watched your video! :)

tallmadi53: If you use the wavy side down it only points up if you buy the ones that curve on the supposed to be flat side

samiracisterna: I have NEVER had any good luck with cheap bobbi pins,, I agree with this video,, i´m also a professional hairstylist and totally agree with using the professional brand.. Love this video,, thumbs up!!

eeeuuunice: thanks! now when im lazy to do a hairdo in the morning for school, I hav something really easy to do. really helpful :)

Lyndsay Muir: Love your videos and blog posts!

popinfresh: I disagree. I buy my bobby pins from a local drugstore, and they last as long as I don't lose them. I've been using the same 2 bobby pins in my purse every day for over three months and they are holding up just fine. One to two uses...she's definitely trying to sell you something.

Arrsh Ali: I am totally trying the first one bobby pins always come off thanks  Jenny

liebrary: 2:29, how did you do that? I try to put in my Bobby pins but they always fall out!

ItsAudge: I am so trying the first one tomorrow. Bobby pins never stay in my hair

Paulonium: im kind of broke right now. will toothpicks work for this, or should I use paper clips? Thanks.

Tina Wu: Really make sense Thank you!

cyrjesse1: thanks :) helpful.

mwoww08: Good video other than the comment about drugstore Bobby pins, I use a single goody bobby pin many times works fine for me.

luckyDancer100: I’ve literally been using these wrongs for years

othgyal12: amazing! :) learned some stuffff

Bea Neves: Really helpfull !

HavCourage: I call crap on the buying professional bobby pins.. I'm on a drill team, so I have to pin my hair up on my head all the time. I use regular grocery store bought bobby pins and they last several months, provided I don't misplace them. Since I often do misplace them, buying them in the professional/more expensive style would be a waste of time.

Veronica: At about 1:00 in, that is total bull. I always buy goody's and they last as long as I can keep them. Why spend more when you'll probably lose them. The cheap ones work just as well.

Sele S: i don't need bobby pins to last so long.. because i probably lost them the first time i took them off... LOL

h s: yay I understand it now thank you

MsIvoryyy: I had the same taught when I saw the picture on pinterest. That reminds me of a quote by Abraham Lincoln: "The problem with internet quotes is that you cant always depend on their accuracy" ;)

4eversky: Nice thank you

Olivia Brock: Ummm... Idk if it was a blonde moment or what lol... but you showed how to properly use the bobby pin (wavy side down), then pointed out that it had to be incorrect because the jewel on the one from Sally's was on the wavy side. However lol, if you use the bobby pin correctly just like you had done 2 seconds prior (again, with the wavy side down), once you slide the pin in and push it up to grab the hair and then push back in the opposite direction to secure, the jewel is exactly where it's supposed to be... on the wavy side! The wavy side begins face down but once you push up to grab the hair and secure it down, the wavy side ends up on the top side.

Perlita Habanera: I hardly pin my hair but when I do, you mean I have been doing it all wrong...

oiypidoypi: Pretty nails :)

Shanaz Mondal: well among the cheap ones there are a few gud ones hidden..u jst have to find which one works for u!

4eversky: I did a really cute style

Laurie Yandrich: i feel like an idiot for never knowing how to correctly put n a bobby pin

Rebecca Peak: awesome!

Tammy C: THANK U JENNY BLESS U N UR CHILDREN

falklandmoon: Good vid for the trans folks ty

Chunji천지: Oh hell naw Im getting the cheap one no matter what

Shanaz Mondal: bt of course if u dnt mind spending a lil bit n getting branded ones then go ahead ...u'll b saving alot of ur time ;)
