Hello there welcome back to another hair tutorial today, I'm gon na be showing you all how I basically pin curl my hair to sleep on a set and therefore make it last from one day to the next. Of course, you may not want or need to wash your hair every night, so it's important to be able to preserve your set that you've painstakingly put into your hair. In this case, this is a heat set from a curling iron. In my case, this is just into the day residual curl for me, and I'm going to be using this leftover, curl and the product in my hair to create a pin curl set for the next morning. So this is how I set my hair basically to put under a shower cap or for just going to sleep. The first thing I'll do is take out any bobby pins or Clips hiding in my hair from the day and then brush through my hair thoroughly. So I can make sure most of the tangles are out of my set, so I can roll it all into pin curls easily now that I've got my hair brushed through and the tangles are gone. Let'S talk about the different types of Clips you can use to. Pin curl your hair, this first one is a regular pin. Curl clip with is just a two-prong, little clip. Then, of course we have regular metal duckbill clips. I use these to set standing, pin curls on the top of my head, you'll see and then. Lastly, I have the kind of clip you do not want to use with this little triangle shaped area on them, and these are extremely painful to try and sleep on so don't use these, for I said if you're going to sleep on it. Just trust me, you don't want to do it so use these flatter. Regular, pin curl Clips like this. So of course, as usual, I'm going to be sectioning. My hair, I section my hair, no matter what kind of set I'm doing really and I'm just taking the very top section of my hair for my forehead back here. I will then separate the sections from my ear up on either side as well and then. Finally, I will separate my hair horizontally from ear to ear clipping the majority of the top of my hair away and starting with the back bottom part of my hair. I'M just gon na be spraying my hair, a little bit here with regular old water, because I already have product in my hair from the day set hairspray some pomade different things already in my hair. What I'm doing here is just reactivating those products by giving it a little spritz of water. Some of you might be thinking I'm crazy to spray water on my curls cause. I want to lose the curl, but it's really just reactivating that product in my hair, I'm not getting my hair soaking at all. I'M just gently sprit, spritzing spritzing, my hair here before I rolled these into curls. Now, if you're gon na go through the bother of sectioning your hair, you might as well section it neatly and do a pin curl setting pattern as it were. My pattern here is just super super simple everything in the back has just rolled in one direction. Every row every curl rolled in the same way and then of course you can do different setting patterns. If you search vintage setting pattern on google or on Pinterest, you will get lots of different setting pattern diagrams. That show you that which, depending on which way you bowl these curls on and how and what angle you roll them at, etc. You can get different patterns of curl the next day and different hairstyles. Basically, but this just is my basic: how do I roll my hair for sleeping, so I just roll it all in one direction in the back, and that actually gives me a nice little bend in my pageboy on the second day, which is nice because I usually Have trouble getting that bend in my hair the first day, but after I do, pin curls overnight that curve in the back of the pageboy actually comes in a lot better the second day. So this is just what works for me. I do just do this bottom section of my hair for my ears down in one go and then the rest of the bulk of my hair, above that I separate into three sections vertically and just do one of the time slicing little horizontal sections. Out of that. It'S all about sectioning. If you've watched you my other hair tutorials, you know that I am all about sectioning and putting taking off little rows and pieces and sort of gritting my hair in that way. So, as you can see, I am just rolling sections of hair around my finger, sliding that little curl off and then pinning it down each one facing in the same direction. So I'm just moving my way up through these vertical sections in the back and then we will get two sections of the front. If you are someone who struggles with doing a forming pin curls, this is actually a good kind of practice situation, because the curl is already halfway formed your hair at the ends of your hair, already want to fall into that curl shape it's much easier than pin Curling straight hair, for example, or soaking, wet hair, so doing a set. This way where your hair is already curled is good practice for pin curling later on. If that's something that you are interested in learning how to do or getting used to the feel of doing, pin curls, which are you know, the most accurate, perhaps way of doing vintage hair after all, this whole process takes me around 15 to 20 minutes, and I'm Hoping eventually that will get cut down the more I do it, but that's just kind of how much time this takes me to do on my hair, I know some people can pin curl their hair quite quickly after years of practice for the side front section. Above my ear, on the light side of my part, I do pin curls that are flat, just like I've done on the back and then on the other side, the heavier side of my part, I do standing, pin curls that'll, be the first difference from the rest Of my hair, the back and the light side of my part are all done in flat, pin curls and the standing pin curls I use on the top front section and the side section of the heavier side of my part. If that makes any sense, you'll see in a second, so I'm just rolling my hair around my finger into a little curl pinching, the top of that, as I slide my finger out from inside and then instead of flattening the section I just stick. The pin through the little hole that's made than the little victory roll, basically in the curl, so I just stick the pin underneath to hold that curl standing up, and I do the same with the second little section here as well. This will need a little bit more water, but just rolling around the finger and then pinching the top of the curl. As you slide your finger out from inside the curl you just made and then just stick a pink roll clip inside the little roll to hold. That standing up like that now for this top section, I'm just brushing it out to make sure there are no tangles. Once again, you can see how striped my hair color is right. Now I'm just separating these sections off vertically and then clipping the bulk of my hair away once again, giving it a little spritz with some water to reactivate the product in my hair and then I'm just gon na do standing, pin curls here as well. Just like the ones underneath so just rolling the hair around my finger just the same as I just did the two curls underneath and this is where, because the curls become quite long, I use the longer duckbill clips to secure these guys here at the top. Just pinning down the center of the roll and then I will just continue doing that same method for the rest of the front section of my hair here, for this top section, I sometimes do you know four or five doesn't really matter. How many rolls I make here at the top? I just kind of go by feel, and it doesn't matter particularly how many curls I end up with. For me, I just I'm just rolling until I run out of hair. Basically, now that everything is rolled. Sometimes I clip a couple of these rolls together, just so that they all stay put and stay happy overnight. So you can see I'm just doing that here with these top front rolls, and then I give everything a spritz of water again, just a gentle spritz over the finished set to help, but for the same effect really for the same reason just to reactivate the product And give it a little bit of moisture so that when it dries, it holds these new curls. I just put in I'm just tying a super granny tastic neck over those curls so that they all stay in place overnight. When I'm sleeping or I can throw a shore shower cap over this and just make sure everything is secured for when I am watching the rest of me, if I don't need to wash my hair and there we are, they finished, pin curls set ready for bed Extending my set for as many days as I need to, and so thank you guys for watching today, and I hope this has been helpful for some of you who want to learn how to preserve your set or just are working on your pin curls and want A easier method to learn how to get the motion down before you start working on straighter or wet hair. I think it's easier to roll already, curled hair, of course, so this is a good practice for pin curls in general. Thank you guys for watching today and I'll see you again soon bye, you

Brenda C 1993: This reminded me of my mom and Grannie setting my long hair every night! I can't do this anymore after breast cancer. I find it difficult to hold my arms over my head to do it anymore! Love you and your videos. Lady like behavior needs to make a come back !

Beverley-MeMawMaw Clark White: my Mama used to use bobby-pins for this instead of clips....she would wrap small sections of hair around the tip of her finger, then secure the curl onto her scalp with usually two bobby-pins criss-crossed....her hair always looked great!!!

garden boots: I have PAINFUL memories of having to sleep with my hair done in pin curls, it was torture, criss-crossed old fashioned bobby pins! It was pretty wonderful to get to watch you do yours with your method. Thank you :)

RubyLovesRocket: This reminds me of a way more glamorous version of my childhood. When I was little and taking dance lessons, I would sleep on foam rollers when recital season came around. I have naturally (very!) curly hair, but my instructor wanted us all to have very uniform curls and styles, so it was a struggle to work around what Mother Nature intended.

Purpleemmyjo: Brilliant, just had a cut very similar to yours. Can't wait to give this a go

Jo Hughes: I need to try this way...I've never pin curled my hair before, only used sponge rollers. This looks super quick n easy. Thanks sugar for sharing! xxx

It's always Halloween except when it's Christmas: Thank you for this. I've heard a few different ways of extending a set, but this seemed the most practical and hair friendly to me.

Angela Traynor: Thank you so much for this. It's so reassuring to know that I am not the only woman who has to do this kind of thing to maintain her set. I envy the women who claim to just throw a scarf on their 'do and have it look just as fresh the next day. I'll have to try the standing curls one evening, I usually use a roller to help achieve the volume.

lucydisappears: Exactly what i do every night, to save my curls. I like how you do the front curls and totaly gonna try it

Mary’s Merry Knots: You’re tutorial is brilliant. Clear, Concise, and not all about you or your channel, but about the actual tutorial you’re giving. Well done!

MeowcatBissy: Your sections are so clean without even using a comb, how!

Mandy Collins: I realize this was from last summer, but I'm hoping you'll be able to help. I recently had 12 inches cut off and my hair is a bit short. We also dyed it for the first time in a few years (basically virgin hair), so my hair is really slick and short. I have straight, thick hair, so making pin curls is difficult. I used to use foam rollers a lot when my hair was shorter (I grew it out for wigs4kids). Sorry, I'm rambling. Do you have any advice for wet setting thick, slick hair? I tried using lottabody, but I may need something a bit sturdier to wrangle my locks into a roller or a pin curl. They just bounce back to straight, or sprig out in all directions, even with dampened ends and tucking with a rattail comb. Any input is appreciated! As always, I enjoy your content. Cheers!

Natalya Claire: Very instructive thank you. I'm going to try this. Practice and patience.

Lisa Parkhill: Idk if anybody said anything already, but those "painful clips" are for magnetic rollers. The smooth plastic kind. Not for sleeping on, for sets under a hood dryer.

lisa williams: Thank you very much, best video on pin curling I've seen with excellent information

stella: Your hair looks great, Bianca! I realise I rely too much on heat tools to style my hair, I've been looking for a set of foam rollers for a while now, hoping I'll be able to sleep with it...

Manuela Glavas: I don't like heat tools on my hair. They kinda freak me out and the heat curls never stay long. so I do a wet set (well, more like "a little moist"- set) after washing my hair, about 2 times a week. I just live with the gradually lessening curl, which becomes a soft romantic wave on day 3 because I am too darn lazy to invest 25 minutes every night rolling up my hair. But it was super interesting nonetheless to see how you do a pincurl set and why you do it. Also, I think it was you who got me into sectioning my hair for pinning it up

katieintraining: Soooo helpful. Thank you!

Saturday Sewing with Debbie: Great tutorial, you have lovely hair. I have to ask - How long does it take to get used to sleeping with the pins? I'm a side sleeper and every time I try to sleep in a set I never make it through the night.

From Good to Glam: Entertaining and educational as always :)

Ella Spruce: Hi! Great video. I've heard metal pins can do some damage to hair, creating split ends. I wondered if you have had any noticeable damage? Also, Whats the music? I love it!

DaisyDaffs forever: I have been trying this pin set so many times but not yet got the hang of it....will try again tonight. I want to master the technique!!

Olga: Damn, it's so much faster on shorter hair, I have the urge to just do the big chop now xD Thanks for the tutorial Bianca ;)

Me: I used to be able to fall sleep with hard rollers in my hair and now I can't even do bobby pins because it's so uncomfortable. Idk when I got so finicky about roller comfort.

Sharon Hughes: It is kind of nostalgic watching you roll your hair. I used to watch my stepmom, and she used bobby pins instead of clips. I just don't know how you guys keep the pins in over night....I guess I sleep too restless....I always woke up with at least 2 or 3 curls freely, and straightly, hanging! LOL

Foxiepaws ACAnderson: The more you do it the easier it gets.

Kiki Adams: I'd love to try this, but my hair is an entirely different texture (kinky coily) so the results would be way different so right now I'm sitting with pillow rollers in my hair. Maybe I'll work on pin curls on an old wig of mine?

jessica boyer: Am I the only one who thought you made pin curls with bobby pins? That's the way I have been doing it for the past 4 years, I would have saved so much time with those wonderful clips....

Sylvia Jean: Extremely helpful!!!

Daveonarave: Really beautiful - you are clever and patient! Did you sleep well? Also what lipstick are you wearing? It seems very resistant! :)

Dawn AKA Pookie: TFS ❤️

Kay Hogan: Hi. Could you please tell me where I could find a head tie like the one in your video? I have been looking for one like that for a long time.

amari: what products you use for your hair? looks so healthy... <3

thevioletrevolution: Do your standing pin curls get crushed while you sleep?

Prue Burge: Where did you get your pins? I want to buy some but I can't seem to tell the difference between all of them!

Claire Raesch: Is it easier to curl dry hair?

Julee Kim: Can I ask you where one can get that light blue hair wrap thing? Thank you!

V. Montgomery: You have great hair. I wish I could have seen the end result of the pin curls.

Barbra: Can you please share the link to find the diagram you use for your hair?

Pretty E. Noelle: Where would I find the scarfs for overnight just curious

jasmine pearl: i wanted to see end result!!!

KAMILA REEDER: Dyou have to do them every night ?

Emily Walker: Where do you get that scarf

Sara Rodgers: You are so beautiful !
