How I Perm My Hair At Home | Savannahxo28

I got a perm three years ago at a salon for $250 because the length of my hair. That's Gucci money! So I decided to try perming my hair my self two years ago which costed me around $50 for everything. I personally love my hair and I get so many compliments on it. You should know a few tips before you think you want a perm:

1) Make sure your hair is super healthy before perming. It shouldn't be over processed, broken, fragile etc. Perming is actually pretty damaging to the hair so you want to make sure your hair is in its healthiest condition before perming.

2) RESEARCH!!! I literally looked up everything I could about perms for about a year before I decided to finally do it. Make sure you know what rod size would be good for your hair length and type, what type of perm (Alkaline, Acid, Exothermic) would your hair react best to etc. Seriously research everything.

3) Don't get frustrated. Perming your hair usually takes about 1.5-2 hours depending on hair length. Rolling your hair is what takes the longest. Don't worry about rolling them perfect either. I think that having un-perfect curls make them look more natural.

4) Make sure you perm your hair on a day that you're not going to have much to do the next 48 hours. Rinsing with water only is okay but no product should be put on the hair for 48 hours minimum after perming.

5) Try to switch to a SULFATE-FREE shampoo after perming. It helps the perm last longer.

Hey guys welcome back, so if you guys are new to my channel hey, what's up, my name is Savannah and welcome to my channel. I know I look a little crazy, but that's because we are gon na be perming. My hair today I've been wanting to Reaper my hair because they usually how crazy this is looking. So this is my hair here babe. What about you? Can you hope, the camera? So here's the texture of my hair here you can see that the curls are kind of already like all over the place and especially down here at the bottom. A lot of the hairs are really straight. So that's how you know that is time for a new perm. I already done this once me and Julian: did it wet like a year ago right mm-hmm? We did like a year ago so we're gon na be redoing it today and yes, my boyfriend does help me, because I can't get all the hairs back here. Alright, so yeah last time we permit my hair, it turned out really good. It just looks funny now because my roots are just grown out super straight, so, like my roots are grown up straight and then the curl starts like right here. I am NOT anywhere near a hairstylist, I'm just doing this to my hair. This is idea, I'm showing you guys what I do to get my perm. So if you guys [ __ ] up your own hair, do not call me because I'm not a hairstylist. So don't think that I know exactly what I'm doing so yeah, I'm gon na go jump in the shower a few moments later we're just gon na start off by brushing the hair, so we can get it all combed and good and then we're gon na just Start wrapping it so first, let's brush and you do want to be really gentle whenever you are combing out wet hair because it is the most damaging to your hair. I promise you so just be really super careful. So I was gon na section off my hair because the last time that we firmed my hair, we did it like in little sections, but I don't want to do it this time, because I do want to perm my hair from the roots this time. So we're gon na try something a little different. First we're gon na. Do the like little mohawk section right here, but to do that you want to make sure that your section isn't bigger than the rod. So you want to make sure that your rod is here. So my sections will not be wider than this. You see how little that section s right here, it's pretty thin, so the rod it's not bigger than the rod, so the rod is gon na be able to roll all that hair without being like to pool - and I didn't do that thick of a section either. It'S pretty pretty thin, so you want to make sure that you keep a watcher bottle spray bottle nearby, because you're, probably gon na, have to spray every section. So just go ahead and spray. It make sure it's wet because it doesn't need to be wet before we start make sure it's all too tangled, then you're gon na grab your end, wrap the little pay and then we're gon na just wrap the hair and make like a little taco with the Hair so you're gon na place it on top and then bring it around bottom, make a deetle taco make sure all your hair is in. There will nicely start to slide it down and then, since these first two sections on the hair are going to be rolled up, because I want them curling away from my face. We'Re gon na place the rod on top right. There slide it all the way down. As far as you can to get those ends and then start rolling and then you're going to get your other end of your rod and bring it to this side and there's your first car, so you're, basically gon na, do that all over the head, like I Said the first two rods are gon na roll upward away. So let me let down the curls they're gon na be away from your face and then the rest of the head. I think I'm just gon na like do whatever some I will roll under some. I roll roll over so one more thing. Um before you guys start rolling your hair. You want to make sure that these roots right here on any part of your head, are not being pooled. Like they're not being stressed, you can see that my roots are really relaxed. I have room for them, they're not being pulled out of this scalp, so you want to just make sure that your hair is not being fooled. Okay, okay, guys already there like the first front, so Julian's gon na take over the middle section, all the way back and I'm gon na start doing side pieces, but we're doing the same exact thing: we're just switching off white and gray rods and going both under Rolling under and then rolling over so just mix in and watch it, okay guys, so we're gon na actually start the actual perming process. We'Re going to be using the salon care reinforced the long coil. This is the 40-foot one. It'S just a really long piece of cotton. So basically, what this does is you're gon na have to get underneath all these perm rods, like this you're gon na, be looking like a psycho but you're gon na get underneath all these perm rods and just basically protect your skin from any perm solution, because the Perm solution can really damage the skin okay. So now you got this cotton all around your skin. Now every perm solution is different, so you want to make sure that you read the instructions on your box, because this one was actually different than the last one that we did. They have two different options: if you have a water rap or if you have a lotion rap, we did the water rap. So it says test curl every two minutes and you want to let the waving lotion set for 20 minutes max. So you don't want to go past that 20 minutes, so you get two bottles in the perm solution. You have the waving motion and you have the neutralizer waiting lotion goes. First, you want to make sure that you puncture a little hole up here on the top and you're, basically just gon na saturate, every single rock really really good, until this is all the ones all right guys. So, as you see, we did use the entire bottle of wave emotion. So now we basically just wait now. This is when you get your shower cap. Mine'S, clear, boring, you're gon na place it over all a-rod's as many as possible right here, and you just sit here, looking cute for the next few minutes and as the box says, we're going to be doing a test curl every two minutes. Basically, that means to get like a little rod right here, unravel it a little bit and kind of see if there's any weight to it, so yeah, I'm not gon na. Do it in the first two minutes, so I'm gon na wait, like maybe five and then do a test curl. Okay! So now I got ta get another cut in um. What is this called a coil cotton coil, alright guys so now we're gon na be using the neutralizer. It sends to shake neutralizer puncture the tip with the T, pin and thoroughly saturate each rod save a half an ounce. I don't know how much half an ounce it save half ounce for later wait, five minutes and then gently remove your rods, work remaining neutralizer through hair for one minute, and then it goes on to step number six or so. Basically, we just got ta work. This baby into the rods now all righty guys, so we already put the neutralizer in it says to let it wait. Let it sit for five minutes. Alright, okay, so we just took out all the rods. So now it just says to run the. What is it? Half an ounce half an ounce through your hair, all right yeah. So you basically can't like wrap your head. Your hair in the towel um. You basically just have to kind of blot it cuz. You don't want to undo any of those curls that you just got and then you're, basically just gon na, let them air dry. You could use a diffuser if you had one and just like dry. Your curls like that. So here is the finished result. Towel dried results: again, it always does look a little different whenever it's completely dry, so some of the curls might not be as curly, which is fine. I don't really care about that. I like it a lot hey guys. So this is my hair a few days. Maybe four days after we actually permed it, you don't have to wait two days 24 hours before not 24 hours, 48 hours before you, shampoo, your hair or like put any product in it, you're able to rinse your hair with, like normal, warm water, so you're able To like actually take a shower um, but you can't shampoo your hair, so your hair will be looking a little nasty for 48 hours, but after that 48 hours you can go ahead and jump in the shower jump or your hair, and this is what you got So I already styled my hair, I already put like all of my products that I use, like my creams, oils, my mousse and everything. So if you guys want to see like how I styled my perm be sure to let me know down in the comments down below, because I'd be happy to make that video for you guys um but yeah, this is it. Rae Lewis: I'm actually a professional hair dresser and Sally's products typically make me cringe, but you did everything right and it came out soooo nice. I'm really impressed.

Moomin: I’m a licensed cosmetologist you explained everything really well you did a very good job your hair looks amazing the only thing I would recommend is if you have super long hair piggyback the rods if you put too much on one rod the solution might not absorb correctly and you won’t have curls in some Places but it’s your choice if you don’t have enough rods to piggyback buy extra solution and just douse your hair

Mar: the fact that your boyfriend is helping you is very cute, i wish mine was like him... oh wait, i don’t have a boyfriend lol

Marsh Mallow: I usually don't like how perms look, but yours looks really good. It looks like naturally wavy/curly hair

Queeny: Fab tutorial ! ..... I’m a qualified hairdresser since 1984 & it’s great to see the return of the perm. BIG TIP: the 1st stage creates the curl. The 2nd stage (neutraliser) should be used with a sponge & put on every part thoroughly as it’s the stage that SETS the curl permanently. All the best home permers!!

Denise Evans: That is so great, I totally believe in doing my own, but would love to have someone do those hard to reach areas :) You were fun to listen to and watch and so was your sweet boyfriend. I'm going to look up the products you used so thank you for being so thorough in directions, and showing all products!

sandyi offermann: What a great video ! . Last time I perm my hair was in the 80’s yes ,I am somewhat older lol. I have hair straight as a board and down to my waist and really want a change , you have inspired me to do this , my quote at salon was almost $300. I will be adding this to my “honey to do list “ with hubby of 32 years . Your guy is a keeper, much love to you ❤️

Firdaous El Gour: your hair permed looks exactly like my hair after a shower, but i straighten it tho because i prefer straight hair, we always want what we dont have but both are beautiful and you've got lovely curls

Tee DeW: You made me feel a lot more confident about doing a perm on myself. You’re making it look so easy

Sharon Miller: Wow! What a beautiful job! I’m a hairdresser here in Minneapolis, you did everything perfectly, sooo impressive!! Your boyfriend is so cool to help, mine helps me trim mine since on quarantine!!

Sandie Moe: Girllllll, yasssssss!!!!! This was super helpful. I’ve been wanting to do a perm but I was scared cause I didn’t know the process but this was really informative, Thank you

Hannah Grace: this turned out amazing!!! i am so tempted to try it out now!

Mel Moel: My Mom and her friends used to do that during the 80‘s, maybe 90‘s. I can still remember, how they helped each other. Old things are coming back, i tell ya. :-)

Les v: I've always wanted my hair curly but the thing that keeps me away from perms is that I hear they are very damaging. Did perming your hair damage it severely?

Barb Sizemore: So awesome that your boyfriend is helping you. Couple goals ❤️ love your results. I have natural 2c-3a hair and yours looks natural!!!

CR Pestana: I got a perm a year ago I regret it so much I had to cut my hair short to get my hair back, but I have to be honest looks so good on you!

Justine Leijon: Saved my life!! I've been wanting to do a perm at home for the longest but there were no videos on how to do a perm rod set at home, only professionals doing them on other people's hair. I will definitely be trying this. Pls upload a video on how you maintain and style it!

Snapshot Shawna: Love this! Your hair looks amazing!

Bri Romero: It’s so crazy how I used to get my perm done when I was in 6th grade . Lol I loooove curly hair . Now I’m 30 & I def want to do it again . Thank you for this I’ll def be saving myself some money .

Marybeth Carnahan: You have given me the confidence to do my own perm. Your looks great!!

Tina Lynn Johnson Brewer: You and your boyfriend did a beautiful job. Your boyfriend is so patient and helpful. You made me feel like I can do that.

Shea Prado: Omg! It's beautiful!! I want to perm my hair so bad. But when I was little it's was the worst experience ever! I even grew my hair out so I wouldn't look crazy and it did. I just want to know how long was your hair before you permed it?

Anna Z: My boyfriend helps me dye my hair too!! I love that he’s involved even with beauty stuff. We both have keepers!

Duyen Lac: thanks for sharing, your hair is so stunning in the result, I love curly hair so bad, I'm Asian and my hair is straight plus oily, so it makes me even look ridiculous after only 2 days without shampooing. I used to have my hair permed, however, I have been in US for like 2 years to study, I learn how to cut my hair and my permed part start disappearing, can't wait to try this one.

Misty Belcher: You are absolutely beautiful! I love your makeup and your hair.

Hippy Gypsy: I watched all your perm videos. Your hair looks great. My daughter is going to help with mine. It's the same length as yours. I hope I get enough rods.

kalicer: Guapa y tu cabello ondulado te queda hermoso.

Blank: How often do you perm your hair? The bottom/middle section of my hair fell back straight while the top half stayed “permed.” I’m thinking the cause is my hair is too straight, heavy, and all one straight layer... help! When can I re-perm? Btw, You did such an amazing job!

Jennifer Guzman: My husband polished my toes when I was pregnant...any guy that helps their girlfriend/wife with stuff like this is a good guy! =)

Rhianna Erin: I got a perm a year ago and it lasted literally 2 weeksthe hair dresser said because my hair was very thick it didn’t hold wellbut I’m trying hard to get my natural curls back❤️by the way the hair turned out great.

Savannahxo28: How I style my Perm Video is coming soon I promise! I’m just waiting for my new filming lights to come in!
