Hi, I'm Jennifer Hyde, I'm here today to show you how to grow dreadlocks on straight or curly hair, I'm going to show you a method, that's called rip and twist. This is a method for starting dreadlocks that can be used on any type of hair, whether it be straight or curly, thick or thin, medium density to find density and anything in between I'm gon na begin. By taking my section of hair, I want just a small, like a maybe a 1 inch by 1 inch, section parting, I'm going to begin by just putting in a tiny little bit of backcombing, maybe about 4 or 5 pushes against the hair to create myself a Small cushion, then I'm going to hold all the loose hair and I'm going to begin to pull small sections of it away, I'm going to twist it and then I'm going to keep pulling and switching these hairs and my fingers until all the hair is pushed into A tightly woven pattern up toward the scalp, and you just keep repeating this motion all the way until you run out of hair, so now that I've done all the rip and twist and I've gotten all the way to the end of the strand. I am gon na leave just a little bit of hair out at the bottom, because on her shorter hair, that's gon na leave me a little bit of a longer lock to start with. I can always pull those ends up inside with my trusty little latch hook. Whenever the time is right, so for now, I'm just going to go through and grab any little tiny, loose hairs and I'm just gon na weave those to the inside of this shape that I've already made with the rip and twist. So, as you can see, this really does make a nice solidified lock that, from the very beginning, is legitimately looking like a dreadlock almost from the very beginning.

Planet Shi 🪐✨: I wouldn’t trust nobody to do MY hair if their hair looks like it was cut by Edward scissor hands.

Sekhmet_EyeofRa: With this woman's hair texture she does not need to do ANYTHING to her hair, let alone whatever foolishness this "stylist" calls herself doing... If she just stopped combing her hair, it would naturally loc-up. All of these "techniques" are for people with straight or extremely fine hair. This video should be labelled "Caution! Do not ever do this to your hair!!"

Tapy aka Rebecca: Why are you back combing hair that already has texture? Please do more research before you ruin someone else's hair!

KingforLife: Yeah, no boo boo. Twist and rip and back combing is for straight hair only....Black people's hair, like her's, which happens to be in the type 4 section and is technically already backcombed or has that texture, needs to be braided or twisted and time will form it into locs.......may Jah help you with your career as a loctician.....smh

Angela: Why is she damaging her hair they need to take this video down

lucfireful: I would never let her touch my locs... That's why I do my own hair.

Moriah Dawkins: Attention! If you have type 3 to type 4 hair please do not rip and twist your hair to start your locs! This method is meant for straight hair! Curly and kinky hair will loc on it's own if you put it in comb coils or twists and leave it alone!

Chayne Cotharn: The description of the dread style, "rip n twist " will send me out the door alone!! I was considering starting dreads but definitley not this way

BaddScorpio: Stop it Becky... Stop it right gatdamn now!!!

PRIESTESSHEAVEN GMT: note, if a stylist hair looks uncontrolled then you probably should reconsider using them.  no shade, just HONESTY.

Goddess of Music TV: OMG NOOOOOOO ! That should not be done on African hair...I'm sorry, I just can't!

Empress🌸PISCES♓️: Lmfaooooooo Nobody being negative Lmao . That method is done on certain hair types. You don't need to back comb, RIP kinky hair for it to loc crazy Barbie !! ... Her hair is curly... All Black hair is naturally curly .. small .. large or medium . Our curls are Tight! Some aren't as tight. Why would you need to loc kinky Natural Afro curls Ctfu ... I'm done!

sio19: "Rip and twi--" NOOOOOOOOOOOO

kellen gray: I would pay to see Damien Walter do a reaction video to this...them parts

Pandora Pink: Afro hair is already tight and curly. A 0.5 crochet hook is a better tool for instant locs. A latch hook is better for retightening for people that like interlocking their new growth. Be careful using a latch hook for anything else.

A.j. Robinson: You clearly don't know what your talking about because there is no need to back comb her hair

Jinzo’s Life: I was SCREAMING at my Phone Screen watching this. YOU DO NOT BACK COMB AFRO TEXTURE HAIR. Why the hell she let that white lady do that to her head??

Qing Bleu: a comb coil or two strand twist would have worked just fine.. eHow you are fired.. hair WILL lock no matter what texture without all this foolishness smh

j ruffin: Never seen this method of rip and twist. Kinda look like she had 3 or more strands. Rip and twist combine with a sort of underhand breading technique.

Eric Barton: great video! Although, the lady in the chair does not look too impressed to be on camera.

#Maeduceher Keysha: That's a Caucasian method for straighter her.

Lucy Phillips: Oh dear!! Why did she back comb her hair. Looking at her curls, all it neede was a simple twist and the rest would form natuarally untill she's ready for a quick tidy up. Also the locs are so far apart. That lady did not look impressed.

Regina Stevenson-Swint: THIS HAS TO BE A COMEDY SKIT FROM SNL

Eve A.: Thank you for this video!!

MissMeeh!!: I came across this video and i have never seen this technique in my life.. I couldn't believe what I was seeing... I would not let this women do my hair .... This isn't it

Keto De La Crème: she is tangling her hair there's no way ur able to comb it out after this and change ur style or redo the scalp a lot of hair will start to shed just trying to detangle it.

Nenette Faulkner: OMG....you can't be serious I am speechless

Alicia Scales: Our hair (Black hair) locks on its own Caucasian hair needs "teasing"

jazzymiaful: I don't comment often. Please EHowBeauty, look at the comments, do some research, and yake this offensive and misinformation video down. If not for the sake of cultural appropriation, for the sake of hair care and giving misinformation about handling Afro-textured hair.

lil king: Thank you so much what do you do after that

bradley perrine: My hair grows the shape of bob ross but it super thick and curly alot of hair Clippers cant even cut it gotta trim it

Carrina Baziel- Ardie: Very incorrect she should of comb twist her hair our even tried using the braid method

Rapaahla Yasharahla: Ain't nothing dreadful about our hair...start there first!!

vieuphoria1008: ITSSSS A BIGGGGGGG NO “it’s really upsetting me and my homegirls”

Jekyll & Hyde Transformation Salon: This video shows several ways to start locks.  Not all hair textures can be started using the same method.  The stylists at Jekyll and Hyde understand this and can adapt their methods to lock any hair type.

AlternativeFlyGal Jo: @bluehart (or whoever) i see you keep telling all of us to "be nice" when no one is being "mean". go the fuck away. i'm being VERY nice considering she's messing that poor girl's hair up. stop policing us like we're kindergartners. stop tap dancing and just go teach this woman how to properly start a set with two strand twists, braid, comb coils, palm rolls, etc...i actually love that "looser textured" folks have locs, but let's stop acting like we need to use their methods to start and maintain a healthy, good looking set of locs. it's clear that she knows nothing about our hair! and honestly, her locs aren't very impressive either, but whatever.

Joyce Wilson: This must be for people who don't have natural curly, kinky hair because people who look like the client don't need all of that teasing and ripping. This is insulting to me as an African American woman who has had beautifully long, flowing locs without this damaging process

Zay Wilson: These comments got me weak as all hell.

Kim Moore: Terrible . Let someone who specialize in African hair texture lock your hair. This method is perfect for Caucasian hair only . That technique looks horrible on her hair.

Ms Rain W.: just two strand twist it and locks will eventually form. I've seen black people get their hair dreaded like this even the kinkiest of curls. it's just a faster process then waiting for the two strand or braid to bud. now I have seen some white folks with some beautiful dreads don't get me wrong. depends on how they are taken care of.

Kendra As: -__- this is so wrong. This looks like a parody or something.

AlternativeFlyGal Jo: lordt. i almost spit my girl scout cookie out.

BaddScorpio: I hope she was able to pick that shit out

Renzii: I have 3b hair will this work?

alqniix: That lady looked pissed

PG-LOCS LOCTICIAN UK: No no no no no... What are you doing to her good hair.? STOP IT

Fogboy Enterprise: LOL in the thumbnail she just starin sooooo hard into that ring

Skyy J: She did not do those correctly. She needs more practice.

NaturalBeautynStyle: I’m not sure wha t was going on in this video but I loved the texture and color of the models hair but the rip and twists no

Ms Purebeautii: I had to give her thumbs down..everything about that was wrong..the parts wow!!

Hershekyss: I don't trust nobody in my hair that call locs dreadlocks. There is no dread in my hair.

janell jones: Just wow

Harper: I think this is a video of how to knot hair

Tracy Caldwell: She doesn't know what she's doing! That's not necessary on our hair! She wouldn't be allowed to touch my hair.

Nonchalant Clouds: no ... just no ... I'm sorry but this doesn't look right, just .... just no :l

AJo Johnson: I had to sign in just to unlike this. Her hair is a gorgeous curl pattern and you just messed up the twist that would naturally form.

BaddScorpio: Damn, if I was white I wouldn't let her in my head either! Look at her wig! lolol

Cyndi H: No precision in technique whatsoever!! This can't be right.. :/

Imani Tamar: Please take this video down! It’s extremely offensive to the authentic Loc culture !

Ariene Miller: Just it right now

Tee Baidoo: This pissed me off so much what the hell is this lady doing queen get out of that lady's chair your hair does not need to be back combed for your hair to loc‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️

Natty Veggies: Did she say “rip and twist”

Mazen Ahmed: I'm black but I have a soft hair, what do I do?

Tynita Butts- Townsend: What kind of way has she part her hair? Why is she starting in a circle around her head? Yo this is all wrong man. Her hair is already kinky, this method is pointless.

Angela Pickens: Please tell me this is a joke!!!! This can't be real. Why would she back come hair with that texture?

ChocolateNikki:

Kristi: Why? First it’s called locs because there’s nothing dreadful about black hair.

u finna get THIS CRUSADE: I got straitish and curlish hair rip

KrysNesh Love: Smh. I hope you don’t have a license anymore. You need to learn how to do hair ! You can’t do black people hair like that tf was you thinking.

Pamela Roberts: No you don’t do that to black people hair why she go to a white woman anyway

Ladonna Whipper: You don’t know what you’re doing...noooooooooooooo

Sarahfina19: What the hack is she doing...That method should not be done on African American hair. ✋

Precious Flowerchild: I just like wtf

David Monterosso: Would this be a good method for white people woth straight hair?

drew acharia: Bruh she looks pissed

The Lionesses Journey: This needs to be taken down. This is not how this should be done on a woman with textures hair. She’s destroying her hair. I bet if she completed her hair, today, that woman is not happy with how her hair looks. The parts are wrong the method used is damaging to her hair and it will not come out right at all. This woman needs to return to hair school and learn to work with varying hair textures.

Beauty&TheBeast333: Video was to short

foeva Ro:

Carla Marie Barnes: What The Hell?

Sharee Walls: poor thing..
