Hello, my name is Michelle Brie and I'm a freelance hair and makeup artist for TV, film and print special events and a beauty expert and we're here at the beautiful Brigitte salon in Woodland, Hills. California, and today I'm going to show you removing the bulk from your curly hair. So what I've done is I've already sectioned off some hair, and I put it up because I like to kind of go underneath the hair and thin it out that way as opposed to doing the top layer of hair. So what I'm going to do is I'm just going to go ahead and section a piece of hair I'm going to comb that through and I'm actually going to use this thinning shear to do this now there are several shears that you can possibly use to to Do it, but I'm going to go ahead and use this and then I'll show you a different example with another one. So you basically just want to start from the root very lightly on the top layer, and you just want to come in and come down and very lightly. Do this all the way to the ends and you'll have about maybe this much of hair that you're going to be trimming off, and you want to go ahead and do that all the way around the crown area and you just kind of repeat the process as Well and you just kind of come down and do the same thing now, there's another way of going about this, and you would actually use this year to actually remove bulk and you could just grab a little small section and you want to just kind of come In strategically place your shear, wherever you want to go ahead and remove the bulk so I'll just do one here, one there just get the comb bring it through, and this will give you the amount of hair that you're going to be removing. So you could go ahead and do that all the way around the crown area and then you could go ahead and section the hair and do another layer. And then, after that section the hair and don't remove any bulk from there. And what I like to do is I like to keep the crown kind of free from removing any bulk, because a lot of times when you find yourself thinning hair, you have little fine hairs that stick up. So that's the reason why I do it underneath. So you just kind of leave this top layer of the hair alone and not do anything to it whatsoever. Well, that is how you remove bulk from hair and thank you so much for watching and have a great day.

Lara Pauley: No stylist I could find would agree to thin out my hair. They said it was too thick and curly and would only create short hairs that would stick straight out . So I went in and did an undercut but a little higher up and hidden by hair above and below so now the volume is perfect and the cut is completely hidden. I just can't believe that no professional could help me.

Dsolo990: A razor on naturally curly hair? Yikes! Being naturally curly myself, having had a razor cut in my youth, and being hairstylist, I'd say that's a big no no.

A.Marie: Never ever use texturizing shears on curly or wavy hair it will ruin the curl pattern

Miriã Camargo: Thank you for the quick explanation

Alysia Quintana: Yeah no this isn't anything like my insane thick curly hair

Pudding Lane: I keep viewing these supposed thick and wavy hair and it's nothing like mine. Now, mine is thick and wavy and instead of growing down it grows outwards, making my head look huge. I hate it but would love long hair.

Lotusdriver: That looks absolutely lovely!

Melody: I don't see any thick hair, curly hair, OR bulk being removed. A razor is not thinning shears. I DID see someone have super short, chopped, whispy pieces cut into their long, not naturally wavy hair.

Jane Smith: Right off the bat this is a no! Taking a razor or thinning shear like that one to thick hair only creates frizz, especially in hair that already tends to be frizzy.

Lemon Head1: I had a stylist do the same thing to my extremely thick, long hair and now it looks dry, dull and frizzy. My hair is 100000x thicker & longer than the girl in this video, too. I can't stand my hair now and feel like just getting it completely shaved off.

Mario M: is this considered thick and curly hair lmao...

Lynn M: Never, ever, use a razor or thinning shears on wavy or curly hair! Causes frizz. Read The Curly Girl Handbook by Lorraine Massey to learn how to handle it properly.

Chanel Lenahc: "Or the other way to thin hair out is to use thining shears like this.......... (‍♀️Like what???) No description OR close up!! Yup, this was helpful!

Jamie Marie: Omg! Nightmare! In the first technique, That's a razor, not a thinning shear, which you'd never use on dry naturally wavy hair unless you want a frizzy, shredded mess! And to put a thinning shear in in the hair horizontally is the absolute worst way to remove weight! You're just giving her tiny short pieces all through the hair, creating more volume!

Louie Chesterfield: This is how you get split ends. I suggest if you do a video about cutting curly hair, that the person HAVE curly hair for the video. Sam Villa's technique is much more efficient and WILL NOT damage hair.

Zero Dairy Required: no razors on frizzy coarse curly hair it just creates more frizz

Lisa Gray: Never use thinning scissors on thick curly hair....will make so much frizz

Ultravioletx1: It is not curly but the model has stunning hair. Lots of body and shape

Vane: Perfect!

Lizanne Leonard: I'm getting conflicting messages on this saying if you use a sheer you should wet the hair and also you should concentrate on the middle of the hair and not go all the way to the ends so how do we know which is right and which is not

Pattie L: Well, I guess live and learn. This is an old video and by now everyone knows you don't use thinning shears on curly hair. Yikes is right. She should take this video down.

L: Should never cut straight across with thinning shears ‍♀️ Only cut diagonally

Wenderella: NEVER USE A RAZOR ON CURLY HAIR! RUN!

fitz.hair.makeup: ANOTHER "celebrity stylist and beauty expert" when ANYONE introduces themselves as that, RUN !!!!!!!!!

Linda Carol: I'm fkn destroyed from getting my thick long hair thinned. She just kept chopping and I will never ever get my hair thinned. It is frizzy now and gaped up all over. My hair was 3 inches longer too. What a fucking nightmare!!! I may have to get it cut short now and from hair loss from the thinning. She never cut my hair before she was in a private room by herself and just me. I'm mad as fk about it. No wonder I don't go to the beauty shop ever. I even asked her if it would grow back weird she said OH NO!!! WHAT A LIE THIS WAS LIKE 3 WEEKS AGO.

Alice P: Never do that it ruined my curls

jalapeño business: My hair isn’t thick on the bottom, but it’s extremely thick on the top, so this wouldn’t work for me

Rebecca Swallow: you never use sheers at the top of the hair you if you have long hair like she does you do it I'm roughly the middle from scalp to ends.

JP McPherson: Great to the point video. I am a licensed barber

Kay Said: I gasped when I heard the scissors at the root of her hair. I would never do this technique

Fabulous: You only do this on thick straight hair! Never on curls or waves!

cat: First, that is a razor, not a thinning shear, and second, that is not the crown..lol..no credibility here.

Tammy McNeil: This female has straight hair. She does not have curly hair. You might want to change the tittle of your video.

Emily: Oh my god no. Thinning curly hair is a terrible idea, get a dry cut and get long layers !

Foster Cat: Disaster. Yet another video proving that hairdressers don't know how to cut naturally curly hair. What a mess. This is why I cut my own hair.

Red Eyed Villain: Jesus christ lady... did you just snip her hair off with those scissors? I could of swore I saw a part in there that looked shorter than the rest when she started snipping and then the camara quickly went to a different angle.

Xiao Ri: Wow what a curly hair

KAYANATH BASHAR: First strike - she didn't explain the technique on sectioning the hair. After that Out felt more like non enthusiastic infomercial. If they dont wanna teach anything why put up a video.

Pharron Lee: this model DOES NOT have Thick and CURLY hair! how does she figure it is!? SMH! She should have titled this video, "removing Bulk from hair".

BrokerBarbara: Her hair doesn't look curly?

Trace E: The girl has perfect hair. Making this video useless

IdahoUS ARMYmomma: Thank you. You're saving me a lot of money. My little girl cries often when I brush out her curly hair. I told her that we would go get it thinned out. Now I can do it at home. Thank you.

Angela Gonzalez: but how do you do it yourself. its very hard to get the back of your head .

Carla Drew: by going underneath and using a razor would be disastrous to my hair. No bueno

TimelordUK: The crown area? Behind the ears?

M .Gifford: You're ruining that girls' beautiful hair :/

Beauty With Rosé: That is not the proper way to thin out hair plus judging by the amount she cut off it won’t do shit

Pamela Scott: No razor especially on dry hair eeeeeeK!!

Kelly Suzanne: I hate the thinning shears they ruin my hair I already have frizzy crazy hair .and these shears just make it worse. I only like the shears that look like scissors, forgot what there called.

tony1pup: beautiful hair. bad makeup lol

screamin' mimi: I'm sorry - where's the CURL???

Demi Tyla: you are never supposed to even thin curly hair.. let alone cut it when it's straight lol well unless you wear your hair straight all the time... in which case this video is completely pointless! If she was then to try to wear her hair curly after this then her curls would look shit. That's the whole point in curl by curl cuts.

fk1386: The model doesn’t have curly hair. She also isn’t a model.

Alysia Quintana: also I wish hair dressers wouldn't give me 1001 different answers

siraly HU: it was only virtual haircut only milligramm hair lost this beautiful lady

Fausto Orieta: how about YOU GET A PERSON WITH CURLY HAIR FOR A CURLY HAIR TUTORIAL

Bryan: What a waste of that pretty volume...

STAND UP FOR WHAT'S RIGHT: Lady in the chair is beautiful.❤❤Also good instructions.

Valerie Jarrett: Show black people with thin hair scissors

Jennifer Duong: they blow dry her hair

Traci Dempsey: Her hair isn’t curly!?!?

Geraldine Akiko: umm..thick and curly hair where???

diana eaton: Where are her curls??

Bakemak3r: Why do you have a plant sitting ontop of plastic containers......

Rainbow squad: Her hair isn't curly

Mrs B's: never never would have you or recommend that way all its going to do is create frizz

TL Coleman: I think the word is shred.

Nova B: she ruined her hair @studtimmie

Vanessa Agama: Boiiiii the girls hair isn’t even curly

Jess-Bets.: This was very hard to watch....

XavienExo: That make up is nasty

deedee: wtf thats not curly

HeyItsFay: razor is a no no
