I'Ve Always Hated My Thin, Limp Hair Until I Tried These Techniques! #Hairtutorial

If you have fine thin limp hair like I do try vintage techniques, nothing works better. I go in with a lot of body setting lotion and I mix this about a quarter to three quarters water and I spray throughout the hair. Until it's wet now my favorite rollers are these elasco brush rollers. I usually do medium rollers all throughout and then small rollers at the bottom of the hair. You can actually follow a vintage pattern or just go willy-nilly, like I did now I'll put all my makeup here and totally allow the curlers to set and dry pull out the pins and very gently pull out each roller. This is what it ends up. Looking like now, I love a brush with plastic and board bristles and you get the most amazing style after you brush through. You can also use foam rollers, but they take a lot longer to dry. I tend to like to use them in my wigs. They give a much tighter curl, but the outcome is so beautiful.

AnnaElisavetta Vonnedozza: My grandfather was a hairdresser & had his own salon in Oaklyn, NJ. He taught me how to add volume & lift to my hair. He would set my hair in curlers & use the long metal clips then put me under these huge dryers. After he’d brush my hair put. It’s worked better than any technique I’ve used since. Oldies are goodies ❤

Janet Kendle: Every Saturday I would help my grandma put these curlers in her hair and she would be set for Sunday Church

Vickie Rayhill: When I was a little girl in the '70's my Mom would set my hair into those rollers the night before holidays or special occasions. I HATED those prickly things. But at least I got to stay up past my bedtime while she was setting it.

Sarah: Omg PLEASE more content like this. I have baby fine and thin hair and I have literally paid professional to try to get this look and they have ALL been clueless. This gives me hope !

〖Nuℝรe〗®™ ᏑᏌᏂ: My mom used setting lotion and the hard plastic rollers. She also put papers on the ends like a perm, but it wasn’t a perm because she bleached it platinum blonde and used Born Blonde toner. Then she’d sit under the portable dryer and smoke her cigs. She did her own hair and even in the 80’s she wore a 60s style. People would look at her weird and I wish looking vintage was cool back then.

・rxsewatxr ・: My grandma was my first client as I was learning to do hair in highschool and was my model at stateboard to get my cosmetology license. I rolled her hair every week in these rollers until she died. She had many grandkids and when they asked me what I would like of hers I asked for her brush rollers

Melissa Strom: My grammy would get her hair “set” like this once a week at the beauty salon. She always looked beautiful with hair styled up and away from her face. It really brings out your eyes and facial structure.

Jade: My mother was born in 1935. She did this style with those rollers, as did every one of my aunts and grandmother. It never changed. Her weekly hair dresser appointment was set in stone!

Lola Goetz: I rolled my Mom's hair with those with dippidy-do, and I swear, her hair style, using a sleeping bonnet, would last a week. She also collected rainwater that she boiled then cooled to wash her hair in. She made mayonnaise to condition her hair. She was Country! A real Appalachian Woman in WVa. She knew stuff!

Aicirt Kciub: My grandma did that. It wasn't until she got dementia and her hair went natural that I realized she had thin limp hair like mine ! ❤

Micha Dawn: I slept in those prickly rollers many times as a straight haired girl in the 70’s. However my older cousin rolled her hair in those giant hard plastic rollers, the ones that were pastel colors and holes in them. They were as big as Coca-Cola cans. How she did it I will never know. I bet she has neck pain from all that. She has very curly hair and those big rollers smoothed it out. She looked 70’s chic and beautiful!

HunkyDoryWho?: My gramma had the "helmet" hairdo. She went on Wednesdays to have a roller set and style at the beauty parlor. Then she kept it stiff with hairspray. She used SO MUCH hairspray!! Lmao She smelled like hairspray and Lair de Temps. Such fun memories with her

Rara Avis: Finally someone, who just let's their hair stay curly after removing the curlers, rather then doing a brush out I thought, I was the only one, who just adores the pronounced curls they leave you with, when mostly left alone after setting! I do use a blow dry hood (or whatever they are called) though, because my thick, dense hair would take forever to dry, otherwise. Those are well worth their money, imo, if one doesn't want to leave the curlers in, overnight.

Erstwhile: You are FABULOUS. My personal style couldn’t be further from yours but I still think you are the most gorgeous thing I’ve seen in YEARS!!

wednesday adams: You’re one of the few beauty creators that I follow whose hair is as fine as mine. Would love to see more hair tutorials! Your hair always looks amazing. I’m obsessed with vintage styles.

DragonGod666 Sevagoth: Everyone in these comments sections are just so pure. I’m seeing a lot of wonderful memories young girls would have with their grandmother or mother helping her get ready and it’s giving me life. Cherish those memories y’all

BalloonHead: The cool thing about using rollers is that if you use a hooded dryer and manipulate the curls before they cool down, you can get many different results like ringlets, body waves and straight-ish hair with lots of volume.

Kate Balzer: I went to cosmetology school in the early eighties and I used to set my mom's hair with these and she had the most volume! Oh she felt so beautiful. She had very fine thin blonde hair. Oh the days of backcombing...

elise police: I would have never guessed that your hair was on the thinner side, it’s always styled beautifully

Dea stover: I kept telling everyone this is the best. Hairdresser for over 20yrs. And the setting lotion is absolutely the key!!!!

Lena Landmine: I straight up thought my entire adult life that I cannot do vintage hair styling BECAUSE of my thin, fine, limp-ass hair. I’be been into vintage my entire life, my house is from 1955 and looks like it inside and out, I am a vintage dealer, and yet I never made any significant effort to style my hair in such a way because I assumed my texture wouldn’t allow it. Who knew I was an absolute idiot? Me? Yep. I have lotta body and rollers on my dresser at home, guess I know how I’ll be spending my evening!

LatinaKamilla: It’s incredible how much your face and hair truly transforms after the makeup and styling. Wow!!! Totally different ✨

lovelyreen: Yup. That’s how I do my hair. Lottabody’s no joke! Wet-setting is also so gentle, and with my fine, fragile hair, using this technique for years has helped me grow my hair to my waist.

Roy Goss: Back in the 70’s, my two older sisters had long straight hair. They would save 12 oz Dr Pepper cans to use as rollers

Nya Smith: I think, girls who want volume without such stylized vintage curls, could just use huge rollers and then run a brush through it. This also works on kinky hair that’s been stretched or blown out. My mom taught me as a kid!

Alexi Pembrooke: I do my grandmothers wash and set every week, there is nothing quite like a good old fashioned roller set!

Emiliapocalypse: I’ve been feeling so down about my thin hair that I’ve been heading down a dark hole. I love that there’s still hope. Any suggestions for slightly less high maintenance versions of this, with a top-knot bun maybe? You’re beautiful, thank you so much for your tips :)

marieve: Wow! My mom use to do her mom's hair like this every week. Big memory!

Nilsia Cadena: This reminds me of my mom and being a little girl in the 70’s getting my hair set in rollers. We had a salon-style hair dryer to sit under. Thank you for bringing back cherished memories.❤

molly White: Vintage hair styles give such a unique and beautiful look to any style. Need to try out those rollers!

KATHLEEN MACDONALD: I am 62 and my mother was a cosmetologist while I was a kid. She set my hair many times over the years and the curls lasted soooo long!

D. Mills: Having used those rollers in the 60’s and 70’s, I can tell you that type with the bottle brush inside causes terrible frizzing. That may be how she got the volume. You can see the ran frizz on the wig she also did. For a consistently smooth curl use hot rollers.

Abby Roach: Crazy how some volume in your hair and makeup makes you look like 2 different people! Equally beautiful both ways, just different ☺️

bobby from lizard lick: babe your hair isnt limp or thin, its just hair it’s gorgeous either way

Stephanie L: Awww I remember those rollers, I would use them on my Granny's hair because she said every time she went to the salon they tried to drown her lol. They're so old now they are crumbling. This year will be 20 years since both of my grandparents passed away - I think I'll buy some and use them in her honor. Thanks for the video and reminding me you can look gorgeous without looking elderly!!!

Christy T: I am cutting 18” off my hair and this is the direction I am going. People keep telling me how rollers are such a pain, but they don’t understand it is far worse to have long, fine hair.

oldladytoofast: Lots of memories setting my mom's hair when I was 10. Used brush rollers on her permed hair. Held for 3 or 4 days!! She cut my hair until I was 18. We seldom went to a beauty parlor.

Keesha Jones: Lotta Body has been staple in the melanated community and very old school(thank you for mentioning about diluting it).. nothing like a good roller set and never seen someone air dry though the same effect as if you were under the dryer. You can let the curls fall naturally, in the interim pin curl them before bed and don’t forget your satin or silk bonnet!

Sarah Seydler: This is a compliment - but I feel like this is how my grandma would style her hair if she was a millennial. She always was a “frosted” and short haired queen. Love this.

Trenda Knight: I'd love to see some more styles if possible. I hate my thin fine hair.

ilovetoile: "The outcome is so beautiful" and proceeds to show the initial brush out. Hilarious! Your hair is amazing! Please start a series of vintage patterns for rollers!! Great content!

Kaki M: I used to use those bristly rollers when I was younger. They were my mom’s. They created the BEST curls!✨

ELiz Wolfe: My grandmother wore those rollers with the holding pins every night with a head scarf while she slept! Her hair was always so beautifully made, even as an elderly woman.❤

Tovah: We have VERY different views on what “Beautiful” means insofar as the FOAM rollers go on the wigs and shot of it brushed out……I had a flashback from hell because that is what my Mother MADE ME WEAR TO BED EVERY NIGHT until I was old enough to stand up to her, AND I was a GINGER so why not just send me to school with a “IT’S KICK A GINGER DAY”! As for the other “Beautiful”, Girl, you SLAYED IT! THAT is probably one of THE MOST iconic and CLASSY looks I have seen especially how it is TODAY’S Makeup and another era’s HAIR! You have PERFECT cheek bones and you are so symmetrical! Even without makeup, I would love to see you with au’ naturelle face & hair. I think it would be so cool to have a few influencers like yourself and have you do each others style on each other just to show how anyone CAN carry this or that “look” off, regardless of ethnicity. THAT would be cool. ❤️ Thx for the future nightmares but truly, thanks for the beautiful memories as the rollers YOU use on yourself was how my Grandmother had her hair “done” weekly and she was not just my Hero and now my Angel, she was the epitome of “Class” and had such Grace and Manners. I was taught how to set a table with full Stemware and fish fork & knives as well as dessert utensils. A Classy Dame! I miss her. Thank you for that FANTASTIC Vid! YOU are a class act too doll!❤️

Annetta Williams: I absolutely love love love these vintage looks! The make up hairstyles, everything! So beautiful and classy!

Lisa Forbes: This setting lotion has been a staple in Black homes and salons for decades. Love this look.

Sonia Álvarez: Thank you for the tip on using Lottabody for creating great curls. I have naturally curly hair. However, the curl is too tight and I tend to use foam curlers to loosen up a bit the curls so that they are wavy. I’m always looking for a styling cream and I’m going to try this product out and will let you know how it works for me.

Sarah Riedel: This is amazing. I have the same exact hair type and I'm currently growing my hair back out after I lost about a quarter of the length from massive breakage (split ends and damage that I never had the chance to trim and just went up through my hair like a bonfire). I have literally _never_ been able to get my hair to hold anything like curls, even with a permanent body wave + curling iron and hairspray. These rollers are a little too tight for my taste but I'm hoping it would still work with larger sizes? I've gotta track down this body setting solution.

LivingAuthenticallyonMyTerms: Wow!!! I have the same hair as you. I was a baton twirler as a child, and we had to have our hair out of our faces for the full day if we were in competition. My mom would curl my hair with those same curlers, and I’m still in love with the results. You look amazing!!!❤

Pntngbrn: Ah my childhood! We used these constantly when I was a girl. Foam rollers were the rule for me. I am black so I used them to give me a curly afro in middle school

Candice Cook: That looks great on you. I'd never get those brush rollers out of my hair. It's already curly though so unnecessary. I discovered hot rollers when I was young(before straightening irons became popular) and thought they were the answer to life bc it smoothed my unruly curls back when curly wasn't cool. Caruso curl all day long

Nella: Your makeup is always so gorgeous- I swear you’re a real life fairy princess

Earl of Mar: I'm hoping more styles like you are presenting, become popular again. 50's hair style's were so gorgeous.

Melanie Brandt: I love the memories you're bringing me! My grandma would use Lottabody and my mom used Dippity Doo. Grandma used the exact same rollers, too! BTW both are gone now, but never forgotten or far away!

Kelly Adrienne: I would love to see more vintage roller set patterns. My hair is a lot like yours and I want to try this so bad. My hair is so shapeless and flat.

Corrine Rujan: As a woman with skinny hair myself I love this and have all of my grandmothers old school rollers like those❤

Medusa Petrichor: realised this just recently while growing out my buzzcut, having completely straight hair and an "essence" or whatever that requires more rounded shapes around the face, so just adding more volume & texture with wild gelled styles wasn't doing it for me, until trying pin curls for the first time. shortly after i discovered this channel and it's been really helpful figuring out which methods and tools are right for me at which length.

Cheiyenne Jimenez: Wow you’re incredible! That’s a transformation! And working with what you got, I’m beyond impressed with your skill and artistry

moreolivia: Lottabody! OMG! Haven’t seen a bottle in years! Used to use it for roller sets when I relaxed my hair back in high school and uni. I didn’t know it could be used on all hair textures till I saw your video. Absolutely gorgeous results!!!

Tanya 101: Soooo cute!! As a kid the night before Christmas and Easter I always "slept" on the brush rollers but they do look amazing!!

Livi Loo: Thank you for your content. As I’m getting older my hair is thinning, and I’ve always been intimidated by rollers, but I think I’m gonna give it a shot once I grow my hair out again.

Cindy Bowen: I immediately went to Amazon...it's being delivered tomorrow!! I read it has no alcohol. Thank you for sharing. *UPDATE* I received my order and immediately tried it out. My hair is below my shoulder blades, but has thinned and the hair near my head wants to lay too flat. I mixed up 2:1 water to product and diffused with a blow dryer upside down. When I flipped back up I have old school Diana Ross hair. My husband was stunned. It's so soft and the shine! My hair looks awesome!! Thank you again for sharing. ❤

Cmsb: My grandma used to do her perm like this because she had thin hair like you . I miss her so much thank you for bringing this back ♥️

PantoponRose Goatoe: My hair is like yours!! Hail to vintage looks! I use to get teased when I was in my early teens. I was on chemo and had a rough go at beating cancer, I survived( obviously), but my hair was never the same. I decided back then to follow my own path and it's been freaky yet a blessing. . I embrace being different. Cheers to you Queen

Rebecca Mæd: I have fine, limp, poker straight, shiny black hair that won’t even take a perm, but boy does the traditional sets work wonders! Won’t last too long in high humidity, but it’s still amazing any other time!

Karen L.: My grandmother had her hair set with lotion and rollers like this every week. So fun!

Divinity88: I just found your channel.. Absolutely beautiful shorts you do. It really brings insight on how creative and how many trends just date from back then. The rollers you used in this video were the same ones my grandma used in her hair. Id put them in and take them out for her lol. Thank you for this reminder of my grandma. She also loved makeup, earrings and her hair haha. This channel somehow makes me feel nostalgic, perhaps because of her.. thank you ❤

Rhonda Marlowe: Yet another showstopper look! I still would absolutely love for my hair and makeup to be done by you oldies but goodies bring back memories of watching my mom getting herself together for work

Pattymac Makes: That set is gorgeous!! I'll have to look for those. I remember using the pink foam rollers when I was a girl, but I love your set on the other ones. I remember those but I haven't used them.

Carol Graczyk: You have lovely skin without anything on it like a porcelain doll. Love your videos. Mom mom used to go to beauty parlor when i was a kid and they would use these curlers on her hair because her hair is thin.

anniathome: I used to roll my mom’s hair almost every Saturday night for years using those. Great memories of watching Lawrence Welk and rolling her hair.

Daph O'Dyl: Oh wow. You just unlocked a memory of me finding my grandmother's curlers as a young child. I remember the plastic pins vividly.

Rissa Biagi: Omg I WISH! I always feel silly when trying to pull off a fabulous look like this! Thank you for sharing!!

His Mom: Girl, you are an absolute smoke show. I love your look and your content so much. Such a refreshing dynamic.❤️

denise: Oh my goodness! I just got these rollers last week and have been planning to get an Italian cut! I would love to see more videos from you about vintage hair! Most of the videos on YouTube are about the 40s pinup look but there were so many other beautiful styles!

birdie_blues.studios: My grandma used to do her hair like this in her younger days. She had a whole set of like 30 that were pastel blue, pink and yellow and we're plastic. She put them in my hair once but since I was like 4 I shook them all out in the first minute

ruby b: it's taken me 10 years to realize that the reason I didn't like my hair as a child is that it's quite straight and therefore flat. I also have thick hair so it weighs itself down at the roots. I've been playing with vintage styles and honestly have forgotten how to use hot tools because of foam rollers lolol I love the volume I can get from them, though I'm still learning

BAT: It’s so crazy how many people haven’t heard of like roller setting/a roller set. A lot of Black ppl who have relaxers do/did this more back then (and more so the older ones now still) this on freshly washed hair and sit under the dryer because since their hair is just straight now this is what brings back volume in a less direct heat way

Molly P: I've been trying to find the setting liquid my great grandma used. Her hair was beautiful So many dark curls

Vanessa: Love these curlers! My grandmothers used them and I would help them set there hair. ❤️

Zoe Garcell: Wow totally took me back to my childhood! I love the tip you gave for sponge rollers on my wigs!! And your make-up is AMAZING!!! I love your style!! Gorgeous thank you for this great short!!

tripstheytake: I love this; my hair is fine and thinning and I am very self conscious about it. I feel like this would help!

ROSSIGRL584: In cosmetology school, I’d have classmates roll my hair in perm rollers. Setting papers and all. Just skip the actual solution. I’d dry under a dryer or throughout the day. Then I’d do twisted rows into the high pony of voluminous poofy curls. I worked full time after my 8-3 school. So I could get a couple days of school and work until 2am out of them. And great practice.

Miss MoneyPenny: My mother used those same kind of curlers . Sweet memories of her . Your hair looks beautiful.

Annika Bjornson: I’ve never heard of lottabody before, but have a vague childhood memory of a product called Dippity Do in the 60s. That was sticky stuff. I also remember how woman would go about their days with those brush rollers in their hair. I saw them doing their grocery shopping like that, under a big ol’ scarf or hair net. My mother wouldn’t have been caught dead doing that!

mscardioqueen: Lotta Body setting lotion - ahhhhhh memories. My hairdresser used this all the time when my hair was relaxed back in the 90s.

Cierra R: Your makeup is so stunning we need a tutorial for this look!!

Jessica Sage: Just ordered. I got a Dyson air wrap for Christmas, thought I'd finally found a solution for curling my long fine limp hair. I even pinned each curl and let it cool while I did my makeup. Those curls were gone before I even left the house

Closet Culture: Thank you for this. I have thinner, naturally wavy, unruly hair that is dry. I even get a natural dreadlock at the nape of my neck when it's long, hehe! I will try this because everytime I try to brush my hair or give it volume, it just gets puffy and still unruly. You're always so informative and the makeup you did here is just gorgeous. I hope you don't mind if I copy it. You're always so lovely.

Stella Waldvogel: I love wet sets. They last the longest! I mostly use pillow rollers. Really comfortable.

Blanca Davila: That setting lotion is amazing . I first used it in the 90’s with my Caruso steam rollers and I recently bought a new set and fresh bottle of the setting lotion. I get lots of nice curls ..

Mr pancake: Stunning! My grandma use to take me with her to the hair salon and she would get this style with those rollers and pins. She looked stunning and so do you!

boorikki: There’s nothing like a roller set! The trick is to do it on freshly shampooed hair. Clarify if you’re using a lot of products prior to shampooing. Condition your hair with a moisturizing product. Setting lotion like Lotta Body or a styling foam is a must . They are heat activated and will leave a nice shine and polish to your hair. A roller set is the base for my silk press. Less direct heat, lots of body!

Cynthia Schlosser: I have long wavy, curly ish hair and I can see that using your method on my hair will make it look most excellent.

Rosebud 64: Your hair looks so beautiful!! Those pink rollers were popular when I was a little girl in the seventies. We called them sponge curlers. I also remember those that you used with the pins. They’d scratch your scalp!

Robyn R: I'm a black woman and when I had long hair I used Lottabody and wet set my hair on those hard yellow curlers. I had fantastic curls the next day although sleeping in those hard rollers gave me neck aches, lol!

Kelly Burnett: The only thing nice about fine limp hair like mine is it’s cool in the summer…that’s all.

Natalie Rozean: Thank you SO much for this info! My hair is . Sooo thin & flat. Because of your channel I’ve recently ordered & tried to use Velcro curlers. I LOVE the volume & curl, but the curl goes flat w/in an hour or so. I also have no rhyme or reason to where I put the curlers. The front always looks vintage adorable….um the back looks like a bunch of cowlicks, gaps, random parts aaaand a few loose rat tails! I took a screen shot of your roller placement & I HOPE I can find the setting lotion! Sorry so long… but you’re definitely my vintage inspiration!

ROGUEROUGE: Lottabody is life. We used it in beauty school.

Alexandra Wilson-Hodge: I’d love to see a tutorial of the tight curls on the brown wig!! It’s gorgeous and I need it!!
