Why You Should Never Get A S Curl Or A Perm

This video is breaking down the science behind what happens when you get an s curl, perm, texturizer or any kind of chemicals out in your hair.

Hey yo: what's poppin youtube, it's king bruh, coming at you again with another video, and today we got a very interesting topic. I get so many questions asking. Did you really get a relaxer? What can i do if i get a texturizer? Can i reverse it? And if you get a perm, what does that exactly mean for your hair man today we're talking about texturizer, slash, relaxer, slash, perm and if you ever have either of those three what that means for your hair? Should you get it? Why shouldn't you get the pros and cons the whole nine all right, so strap up. It'S gon na be a great video and today you're gon na learn something. But before we get started, i just wanna. Let you guys know that this video is gon na, be a little funny. It'S gon na be a little energetic. It'S gon na be a little nerdy, but it's gon na have a whole lot of science. So for this, video we're gon na have to put on the glasses, and now my brothers, we are ready, let's get to it and understand when it comes to putting chemicals in your hair. There are levels to these chemicals all right. There are levels all right at the very top are the natural hair dyes. You know the very light dyes, the dyes that aren't too far from your original color. So if you got black hair and you go to brown, that might not be as harsh of a dye, but it's still chemicals. But it's not that harsh right under that. You have what's called a texturizer all right. A texturizer is basically the same thing, but it's a little bit heavier right. Under the texturizer we have the relaxer and right under relaxers. We have flat out perms all right flat out. Perms perms are the most intense chemical that you can put in your hair. Do not get a perm do not get a perm if you want curls, so we need to go over what actually happens when you expose your hair to chemicals. So i want you to imagine a hair strand, you guys now there's a protein called keratin that makes up the very fabric, the very fiber of your hair and this protein called keratin is made up of three amino acids, the first being salt, the second being hydrogen And the third being disulfide - and these amino acids are bonded together to create the protein called keratin. So the first two bonds, salt and hydrogen - are very weak bonds. All right, you can easily break these two amino acid bonds simply by adding water in your hair. Simply by changing the ph level in your hair, shampoo, simply by adding heat to your hair or exposing your hair to any type of warm environment, you even break the salt and hydrogen bonds when you use products. So, for example, when you use the rich royals deep conditioner and when you use the rich royals cure cream available at ridgerows.com, you are actually breaking the salt and hydrogen bonds from the amino acid within the keratin within your hair. Also, you can get fire curls. Now. The thing about breaking salt and hydrogen bonds, the bond breakage - is only temporary, so no matter what no matter, how good the cream is, no matter how great the conditioner is, no matter how consistent you are, it is going to go back to normal at some point. In time those salt and hydrogen bonds are eventually going to go back to how they were now, if you're, very consistent with your hair regimen, then that time might be extended, but eventually, eventually they're going to come back together and you're going to have to do everything. All over again, all right now disulfide can only be broken by the chemicals that we mentioned at the beginning of this video, because it is the strongest bond. It makes up the very fabric of every keratin inside of your hair cell and it is largely determined by genetics and because disulfide is literally the strongest bond. It'S the most important bond in your keratin. It is largely to blame or to thank for the curls, the structure of your hair. Now, when you apply any chemical to your hair, you are effectively breaking the disulfate bonds and once you break these disorder fade or alter these disulfate bonds with chemicals. You are no longer natural and in my opinion you should never expose your hair to chemical. Didn'T you just drop a video. That said you know. I went viral because i got a perm. I'M sorry because you got click baited, i'm sorry, but i did it only to teach you when you break these bonds. Your curl pattern gets looser and looser and looser alright. So someone that has 4c has different bonds than somebody with 3a, but when somebody with 4c adds a texturizer, their hair texture can very much resemble somebody that has a 3a, and i know a lot of you guys out there like. Well, that's what happens with chemicals. That'S it well shoot sign me up, i'm ready to put chemicals in my hair, i'm trying to look like him over there yeah i'm trying to get the big curls. You know i'm saying hold up bruh. There are two huge problems: two huge issues, two huge complications that come along with changing your hair texture. When you add these chemicals to your hair, they will change the texture of all the hair that is on your hair. However, the new hair that grows on your scalp will be your genetic texture, the original texture, your disulfide bonds, will be the same as they were when you were birthed after mother's womb, which means you will be potentially walking around with two different textures all right, you're Gon na have an afro at the bottom and a jerry curl at the top. Once your head grows out a couple months and, to be quite honest, that looks foolish to me. You can either walk around with the afro at the bottom and a jerry curl at the top or or you can run smack dab into problem number two when you choose to apply that same chemical to the after at the bottom, so that all your hair is The same texture now everything might be peachy cream when you hit the new hair with that same chemical, but realize that to hit the new hair with the chemical, you must then again hit the old hair. That'S already been chemicalized with the chemicals basically you're, putting texturizer on the same piece of hair. Twice it's gon na make that hair very, very weak over time and when your hair gets weak. I shouldn't have to tell you what comes next, but gon na tell you anyway, your hair stays the same length and, worst of all, once you've broken that sulfate bond down four or five times. You will have taken your hair for what might have been a 4c to a 3a to a 2a to a 1a, and now you got a afro at the bottom. You got curls in the middle of your hair and you got just straight hair, pointing straight up at the top of your hair. You got four different, curl textures and you don't know what cream can help and now you on my channel and my comments saying king brill saved me. Well guess what you can't there's no going back because you've broken your dice because you there's no going back. I'M sorry that was a little extreme there's actually rumors and some scientific studies that say protein treatments can help rebuild some disulfide bonds back, but as for the bulk of them, it's gone forever bro. So in my google educated opinion, i advise none of you guys. None of y'all that want curls that really want curls that really are invested in your head journey. If you want long hair, if you want your head to grow, do not use chemicals, but no seriously, you guys, if you have any questions, comments or concerns, make sure you leave them down in the comment box. Make sure you hit that like button, make sure you subscribe to the channel hit the notification bell, so you know the next time i drop some more fire content, so you can watch it be educated about your hair and, if you're looking for any chemical free, chemical Free natural hair products for you that will temporarily break the salt and hydrogen bonds and get your hair to where you want to be make sure you guys check out richroyals.com. That being said, is king brew, peace,

Curly.Capalot: man i haven’t watched one of your videos in a long time, and i’m just glad to see you growing. the video and the way the video was outlined/done was FANTASTIC, and i’m always happy to see another brother doing his thing winning, KEEP the grind up.

fordfiless: I’m a visual learner so this video actually helped a ton with my understanding. I’m a former waver going for shoulder length locs and I’m tryna get all my research together in this first month so I’m not wasting any growth because I’m trying to get braids asap

marvin onwukwe: I appreciate the content. I've got 4b hair and I bought conditioner, hair mask (deep conditioner), leave in conditioner and black castor oil. I'm completely lost on a routine. When to use which thing how often. If you could do a video mapping out what to do each day for a sample week, that would be incredible

Dre dawkins: The science definitely makes sense however I put a s curl in my 4b hair maybe 2 -3 times over like a year and a half. braided it every now and then, rocked the Jerry curl mostly then dreaded it and my hair has grown exponentially especially since I hit that two year mark Never ran into the half fro half curl problem

Chris C: Found this video while searching curly perm videos LOL. I must say, It was refreshing to hear a man eloquently explain the effects of applying chemicals to natural hair. Well said and this was entertaining to watch!

Drippy Visuals: when I was younger like 14-15 I use to always do the s surl I thought it made my hair longer but I started to realize over time my hair wasn’t really growing (I would use it every year) the best advice I have is to cut it ALL off & let your natural hair come in & do lil hair styles or twist if you want your hair to grow

Darron Campbell: I am an applied science major, the way you broke this down is much appreciated and very informative.

Yvette neal: Young man knows the truth I am 62 and was TORTURED by hot combs growing up and the relaxer seemed so special until you got chemical burns on your neck ears or scalps just to have the sleek hair. I love the silkiness but the smell and hot dryer was no fun. I love how innovative young people are in using no relaxers to wear natural curls afros dreads and braids. I am not interested in the weaves but I have worn wigs. I like wigs in the winter and I love how short hairstyles are so fantastic! Relaxers are no longer my main staple for beautiful hair.

Zee: For all the men out there, when your hair grows out and you reapply the texturized you only apply it to new growth. At no point do you apply it twice

Kelvin Willingham: Bruh!! I been watching you for the past 6 months. I appreciate you so freakin much. I started losing my hair real bad but your videos are helping me to regrow it. Watch this video right here I just had to say PREACH!!!!!!!! ✊

bramtheone: At this point I believe my hair is 4E the real African hair it's so disobedient and the curls are super tight .!!I was considering getting a blowout relaxer but I have now changed my mind after seeing this

King Ajibola: braahhhhh! I did a soft texturize some months ago and guess what... it went back to the being 4c in a matter of a few days.... Im actually glad it did cuz I didn't want my hair breaking! Great video! Thanks

Pablo Kirigiti: for real no cap, I was using chemicals for a min and I started to develop alopecia. Thankfully I stopped in time and re grew my hair now it’s down to my elbow.... listen to this man yo✊

TheBoxheadGamer: To avoid the texturizing problem, just get a trim so you can do it again.

Glamorous Sunset: Very thought out and informative video! Thanks for the knowledge

Seyi Ewebiyi: My mom used a texturizer on my hair a while back but we left it on for too long or we messed up the process somehow and now my hair looks like what you described, but I've already cut my hair a couple of times though.

Matthew Ricketts: Man he wasn't kidding about the science

Me Being Bored: its been 3 years since i last texturized my hair and my hair has no breakage neither is it damaged, my hair is just as natural as it was before i did it, im very very sorry for those who lost hair and those who's hair is destroyed..

CentipedeKid: I'm tired of spending 4 hours picking my hair for it to look like shit and breaking a pick or two in the process. My hair is too thick to handle.

Benjamin H.: Great video, however, there some clarifications to be made. Salt, hydrogen and disulfide are not amino acids. The disulfide is the bond formed between sulfur atoms in cysteine amino acids in the chain of amino acids. Disulfide bonds are to stablised the keratin from mechanical stress. Secondly, you can avoid having to perm the same hair over and over again. You can coat your permed hair in vaseline (petroleum) before putting the hair relaxer on your new growth. The vaseline will protect the your permed hair. I hope this helps

Cj Looklin: Haha, I have scalp bumps. And my last barber shaved my hair too tight and ended up revealing them. I was considering loosening the curl pattern so I can sweep my long hair back, but I feel like I might just cause more problems that way.

TKO Savage: I’ve been using relaxers since I was like 13 and I’ve honestly eased up on it I used to use them like 12 times a year now my hair is curly as long as I take care condition and moisturize it.

Je suis Amore: Wow, learned more here than I ever did in chemistry class thanks for the great tip

Quiltx: I got a s-curl before and I will say that it was not a good decision. i had to cut all of my hair off considering that I had very few curls and I also had damaged straight pieces of hair that I had to cut off. NEVER GET A S-CURL OR A PERM

Darwin Paul: Every time I deep condition my hair I completely detangle all my hair before I do so and curls that I didn't know I had pop up out of nowhere. Is that normal or should all my hair still be finely detangled when I wash it out?

Malik Alexander: Come through with the knowledge King Bril‼️‼️Great videos as always dawg

Gaming*Star: I used Aftro Softener like 2 years ago. Then I realized it was dumb as shit. Cut ALL my hair off and started fresh, washed it, deep conditioned, and started my hair journey about 5 month in. 1 year later (2019) I have 4c kinky curly hair at the top and 4b curly hair from the middle down to the root. Still frizzy, but still growing. Now I can put my hair into puff balls and 2 strand twist with no problem. Idk if anyone can bounce back from perming hair, but I salute you if you survived.

samuel nyandwi: Appreciate the effort, but salt, H and disulfide bonds are bonds BETWEEN amino acids, NOT amino acids (like cysteine, histidine, glycine, valine, methionine, glutamate, aspartate, etc.)

Chris Martino: A lot of great info, hopefully this stops someone from frying their hair!

Christelle Mathieu: I’ve got a mix of 3c-4b hair. Its a huge mess but it’s the way my hair comes out naturally.

Miriyam Ysrael McDonald: Love it. You stopped me. Every now and again I feel like doing this

TJ S: So...I guess my fantasy of having nice curls is fading everytime I watch this video.

Alexander: To avoid touching the old hair with relaxer again, cover it with vaseline and two strand twist it.

dwainesworld101: I've been using that product for years and I'm never gonna stop using it lol it works well for me

King Ajibola: Great video but lets fact check that, salts, hydrogen, and disulfides, are molecular components/functional groups/derivatives of Keratin and not amino acids.... all together along with the NH group (pardon me for forgeting my BioChemistry) and molecular structure is what makes Keratin a protein and which may contain an amino acid, in this case cysteine (I call em smaller proteins but science says they are the building blocks of proteins)

RELXUM: Learnt this the hard way but I cut most of it off and I fixed it and it’s curly by deep conditioning my hair with protein and moisturizing factors

TheBoxheadGamer: When he is saying never do it, well first, he means never do it, but he also means, be careful with it or your hair will end up ruined. Just make sure you don't put too much poision in your hair.

Mister Martin: I disagree, I don't use chemicals on my hair, but what about women who go from perms to natural hair?

R D: My boy did his research, and everything! This is wtf I’m talking about bro, my curls come naturally. I bought a texturizer to make them come faster, boi I’m throwing this shit out after this video.

Nizzy: I used it and my hair grew like crazy at the same texture while using black castor oil so idk maybe it’s different for some people

Deowavy: What Products did you use when you first started growing your hair out. Like the first 4-6 months

richard hamarsachi: Funny thing is, the only time I used a relaxer was when I was about to cut my hair. so I had the relaxer for 2-3 weeks and cut it.

Yramesor: This bro legit has the most entertaining YouTube channel on hair stuffs…….nice one

K M: I didn’t know how to get curls a couple years ago and had 2/3 s curls. I think it’s really fucked up my hair in the front due to the front of my hair being thin. Last time I used it was 2018 and I chopped my hair back in July 2020. I’ve been regrowing it but I realized it he front part is still thin and you can see the scalp. It’s very unfortunate and I regret the texturizer. So far everyone is saying the damage is irreversible

Richey Vlogs: Hi, I put a s curl in my hair. How long do I have to wait for it to grow out? I don’t like it it makes my hair straight.

Eli: Keratin is composed of amino acids, but “salt, hydrogen and disulfide” are not amino acids. these are chemical bonds that give keratin its physical characteristics.

TM: If you want curls s curl your hair only a few times so it trained to be curly and then stop using scurl

King Ajibola: Im curious if kinky hair has more disulfide bonds... we can text that by burning different hair types and using an apparatus to trap the and distill/dissolve the sulfur

Kamau Kamau: great vid as always bro. when is rich royals gonna be available in the UK tho?. also can u do a vid on when you should do a protein treatment and how to know if you need to be taking hair supplements and which ones to use. Love from UK bro

Monique Galpin: Thanks for talking me down! I was *this* close to getting a texturizer :p

dogman683: Your hair is flourishing. Looks so rich and healthy and full.

BR33CH HD: Honestly after a month or 2 your hair is gonna go back

Osma: Hope people learn from this I had to start from 0 so I would take his advice

You are loved By God: My mom bought S curl for me a few years ago and me not knowing what it is, I put it in my hair. I have curly hair and it made it straight. It took a month and a half for my hair to get back to its normal form.

mal joe_77: I tried it once. My natural hair type is 3b/3c. It made my hair a 2b texture

Celeste Amour: Lol your videos are hilarious but as a barber stylist you should not be misleading people with your confused interpretation of hair and chemicals

Ola Kunle : My G Fd ish up proper! I had the S Curls in my Amazon basket too. Thanks for the advice

ZaySmoove: You’re hair looks healthy I can see the progress

SwiffSloth: You’ve earned my sub! Good shit. Now I’m educated on hair

Sunny G: We need to learn to love our thick kinky curls & love ourselves (hair included).

Evyline Chioma: You’re a good hair teacher

Football&Boxing Magical Skills&Punch: first time on your channel and am already loving it

TheBoxheadGamer: Also, my hair is fine, my hair is still healthy after it. I don't recommend because it hurts while doing it, but my hair is fine. It is still healthy and pure.

Semone: Love your big bright eyes lol...its easy for people with mixed hair to talk lol..but when your dealing with dread 4c help is needed lol

Zach: Yooo thank you sooo much I was literally about to put some s curl in my hair

Tristan Bourne: But what do we do if we want curls or curly hair but don’t want to put chemical in

Azande Mbatha: What if you relaxed your hair more than twice but because your parent made you con you still go back to natural hair without the big chop

Kamau Kamau: Also. Anyone know why you may not see much hair growth when your in the just after a year stage. My hair about 5-6 inches now been like that for a while. Been doing protective styles moistturing deep conditioning oiling my scalp. Any tips ?

Shadow Fountain: How can I get my hair to grow naturally, the right way, and stay moisturized??

Shadow Fountain: King Bril, what cream and moisturizers are good for hair??

Jay Æ: My mom used a s curl on my hair like 5 years ago Nd my hair is perfectly fine

Sarah and Adrian Charles: This was very funny and informatively

Rkenzo: To be honest if you have dreads and you get your hair dyed it shouldn't matter to much cos dreads are dead hear which is just locked in?? Will it still fall out

SnappaJavy: I got 4b and my mom used a texterizer on my hair . I cut it all off because of that

Ritewyd: I’ve had four texturizers... none of them did anything to my hair at all

blackklash: I keep telling people there's no such thing as bad hair hair is tight aka nappy because of all the proteins the relaxer strips the protein to make the hair loser so u have to use leave in conditioners that put the protein back..alot of people dnt take care of the hair after relaxing it...even sleeping with a scarf will limit breaking

piecesofme: My hair never grew, even as a teenager, and I'm receding and 40. I'm getting an S-curl, cause I'm grown and wanna and I may have no hair in 5-10 years, mmkay.

GetBusyNeef1: my only question is how can you rebuild your hair after cutting it all off then it grows back but with different products to help.

Ruben Avila: Is activator gels and custards bad for natural hair as well?

I Siax I: *LISTEN UP, I HAVE PUT 2-3 TEXTURIZERS IN MY HEAD IN MY LIFETIME WITH THE THIRD ONE LEAVING CHEMICAL BURNS IN MY HEAD (they healed now bc that was 3 yrs ago) I HAD TO CUT MY HAIR DOWN TO THE NEW GROWTH AND START OVER AND NOW MY CURLS GO DOWN TO MY CHIN*

Titus Adofo: Editing on point

xevaiellio: That's why when my normal hair grows back I always shave it all and I just ket it grow back and put the s-curl again

Nicoy Reid: This is perfect for me because i always cut my hair and keep it at the same lenght, i'm just worried abut my scalp

y0ungship: if you had a s curl texturizer once and then proceeded to have a buzzcut, will the damage done to your hair still be present?

wdfourte: So what if I get a perm, after my hair grows out enough I put it back to normal, then get a perm again in 6 months.

KonfidentKayy: U dont gotta put texturizer on the already texturized hair...

Jamaal Christopher: You literally regurgitated the science behind the hair that we learned in beauty school, but failed to mention doing any of these chemical services properly by a professional and having a proper home hair care regimen is the difference between your hair falling out or being healthy. Everyone runs to YouTube and other media platforms for misguided information (although based on facts) and call it Bible and in the same breath argue a licensed cosmetologist down when we are formally trained on not just how to do the procedure, but the science as well. Like my cosmo teacher used to say, it’s not the chemical that destroyed your hair, it’s the person applying the chemical that destroyed your hair!

lawrencedreams: Wait but he's talking about the opposite of perm.. like going from natural curly to straight right? I don't think going curly starting straight/wavy would be so dangerous...

Kris Boston: This is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ENGAGING!!!!!!!!!!! Wow i wish school was more like this!!!!!!!

No longer active: At this point I need one, my hair is really, really kinky and I have tried everything I can.

Christina Ghauri-Aftab: My father (4c) is Congolese (from Africa) and mother (3a) is Pakistani (from the Middle East/Asia). My hair is naturally what you described to avoid from using chemicals. I guess I am screwed either way hahaha! Excellent video and explanation btw

Ovante B.: That's why he's the GOAT! Helped me so much bro

SIRAJ: ay bril do u think ur royal hair care treatment(s) should work in 3b/3c hair?

Its Professor snape to you: So what am I gonna use? Cause this curl sponge with cantu curling creme ain't so much helping me. After I get it the texture I want minutes later the curls look all shriveled up n sh**

Jay Michelle: We love an educated king

maya brown: is there any way to get my natural hair back after one perm? i did a big chop a year ago and was natural for the whole year. then i had a school interview and my mom made me get a perm. how do i get my natural hair back without doing another chop?

Moonga Mumba: I'm curious. Are products like hair food and hair oils also chemicals that can change texture of the hair and make it weak? Hope you answer this bril.

#kwabns: Aren't Texturizers , relaxers and perms the same things?

jojo the clown: yooo guys idk if my mom used texturizer or relaxer or perm but for the safe side lets say she used perm and i cut my hair like 2 times after noticing this shit is not necessary now i want my motha nature natural hair back and its getting there but some parts look brittle and dry as hell should i go bald and regrow from the butt blue scratch ?

Bando 🔥: Ima get a texturized cause I got one once and my hair grown so much but I cut it off and my hair can’t grow past a certain length
