Hi Sharon Danley here with another two Minute Tip. This week, it's about curly, hair. I'Ve had a lot of compliments in the last video I put up about how I get my hair to look like this. Well, this video is all about that.. Ok, I'm back from the gym, and this is what my looks like when it's still wet., I'm showing you this, because i want you to notice how my hair isn't exactly a strong curl like many of the curly haired beauties havet, it's more of a wave. And You know, I can't call it straight if I want to, but I'm going to encourage the curls. So what I've done is I've used some Curl Keeper Original in and then I put some gel in.. So now what I'm going to do is blow dry. It upside down and blow and scrunch as I go ahead and show you what that's like.. Okay, i'm about halfway done, and I should let you know, i'm just using a regular. You know blow dryer with a diffuser on the end and I use it on a medium to cool setting., But because I don't take a long time to blow dry my hair, because there is much of it there. It doesn't get a chance to to get yellow.. But if it does that you should put with baking soda and it comes right back beautifully. Ok, i'm going to finish blow drying.. Ok, this is the end result of blow drying it with the diffuser, where I would blow it and then push it up or scrunch. It as they say. Now, you can see that i still have waves and it's not curly curly or anything like that. This would be. This would be fine, although I would have to use my enhancers like um. You know little mini extensions and back combing and or here padding to give me the kind of lift that I need for my hair. Now it looks fine now and full, but I can guarantee you that within about a half an hour, it's going to sit flat Because I just have that kind of hair and that kind of a head.. So now I'm going to show you what I do to get my curl or wave or to come into more of a curl or a stronger wave, simply with pin curls., And I will put it up - wait. Maybe 15 minutes. While I get changed, do my makeup and then take them out and then I'll have a stronger wave that I I can work with that. I know that will hold better, so I'll be right. Back., And I just want to make a note about makeup. Here. I've had some lovely comments from several people say that they think my skin looks great in everything, and I thank you for that. However, I'm going to give you the real honest look at my skin.. It is yes, it's in very good shape, but I have well. I have darkening under the eyes this lighting. Isn'T this great. I got you know spots to come out and that sort of thing, but this is where the dual finish powder for me: works really good and especially in the human whether.. It doesn't melt like powders or I'm sorry, like creams and liquids do, and I could put on just a little bit in strategic areas or put on the full armor.. Today, Mondays are my day: I've decided it's a spiritual day. After I work out. I'M going to my local coffee shop and I journal and/or read., That's my day just to be for me. It'S a good way to start the week., So not going to go out looking like this., But I could, but I'm going to add a little bit of makeup. Just to give me a fresher look and to even out my skin tone and do all the things we've talked about.. Now I'm going to show you how to do the pin curls.. Ok, this is a fishing tackle box that I found in Canada at the Canadian Tire Store.. This is where I keep my bobby pins and I think I've shown this to you before.. Let me see if i can open it without spilling everything out. I can't. In the front compartment. I leave my shorter ones. Then I leave my long roller pins here.. I have my long hair pins here, my shorter hair pins and over here I have my elastics.. This is so easy to pick up and move and when I just put my pins back where I got them when i'm finished with them, it's very simple storage and I always know where everything is and I'm not always trying to look through pins to find the Right, size., OK, the other thing I'm going to use is a little water bottle of just water into just miss my hair in areas where it may be fairly dry and my little rat tail comb. That just does everything that I need., So my part is about here now. What I'm going to do is comb this back. I'm going to take my first section here, but a sectioned off you see that I might give it just the slightest misting, that's all.! Now, if you want tighter curls, you role smaller., If you want bigger curls your role, bigger., I'm going to try to just hang on to the wave that I have.. So let me see I put my finger here and I wrap like so. release my finger so that it stands up. That way it's lifting from the root.. Then I put a bobby pin in through the centre, see we do the next one ... .make a part. Slight mist put my finger. If I wanted to have a big, I would wrap two fingers. Let me do that just for this purpose and remember it's important to have them so they're standing up and not flat, so there's with one finger and there's with two.. Now that the trick is when you roll horizontally you're going to get a wave when you roll vertically, then you're going to get more of a curl and because my hair tends to be more wavy than curly, I'm going to enhance just what's already there.. Ok, let's do another one. just so we can see how you know my hearing that great it's a little bit thin on the bottom and I've tried to you know I keep trying to keep it cut because when he gets too thin, it's great to have longer And I love it, but if it gets too long and scraggly looking it doesn't look that great as far as I'm concerned, but you you know, I use extensions extensively., Ok, so now the other side.. Now this is the bang area that I'm doing. Going to make a little part here and what we don't want that back there. We just want the front and again look at all the different layers. When you look closely at my hair, this is where wearing curly hair makes your hair look a lot thicker.. So wrapping this around tuck the end and release my finger out and place a bobby pin along the scalp line. You see OK now for the back. I'M going well actually going to do another curl here going this way. Its slightly damp. So I'm not going to you see if you get pretty fast of doing this and what I do at night, I've tried all kinds of methods, but what I do at night when i'm watching a documentary I'll just take my little thing of pins, go sit. Watch TV and roll my hair, while I'm watching television that works just great.. Ok, now I'm going to show you this! Ok, let's see one more here and this time now, i'm going to go back because i'm at the crown so right number of the front part of the crown and a little bit on the ends and I'm going to use two fingers because I want ... ... No I'm going to just ... ... I changed my mind. I'M going to just have one finger because of the way my hair falls., I'm better to have it a little tiger. Now, that's for other people. It may be different.. So what I did was just rolled. It going back., OK, I'm going to finish rolling this because you don't need to see me do everything, but you get. The idea is straight across and at the sides here, just as an example. I'Ll split this into do one then another, and then I'm finished. I'll get back to you when it's finished rolling. Ok, all the curls are in, and this is sort of the pattern., Its just kind of a grab and go.. It'S very simple, very simple, and also when you see my head like this, you can see how I have a smallish head and, of course, I use backcombing and I use hair padding. I use extensions to help fill that out.. If my body were a size zero. I wouldn't think about it., But because my body frame now is fuller, shall we say then my head? I can look like pea brain on monolith. Its, not look, i'm going for so I augment my hair to give the more balance to the overall structure. Anyway, I'm going to put on a little makeup, get changed and then take these out. It'll. Take me about 15 minutes to do both and I'll be right back with you. Ok, makeup is on and I'm dressed to go out just to do my my own thing today, so its nothing big, it's the makeup of the video that I did for seniors or for senior seniors. I'll, put a link to it here so that you can. You can find and take a look at it, just even skin tone shaping my brows, and I only used a gel pencil just underneath in the upper waterline and along my lashes, a little bit of powder at the ends, lipstick and slight bit of blush, and I'm Good to go OK so now it's time to take these pin curls can see what we have. So they haven't been in that long, but you see how it falls in a wave pattern. Now the shorter the hair. Of course it will be tighter, but I can certainly loosen that.. So this is how it it it does. After about 15-20 minutes., Pretty good, I'm going to finish on doing and I'll show you the whole thing., OK they're all out - and I put them all back in my handy dandy. Little tackle box and they're all they're ready to go when I need the next. So here's what it looks like not particularly flattering, but I haven't pulled anything out yet.. You can see that the waves I've worked with the wave in my hair., So there's several approaches that can be taken at this point.. What I'm going to do is run my fingers. This is what works best for me is to run my fingers through and loosen up the the individual waves. So I'm just just doing this, you can see how that ..., ... ... .. ... ..then in the top ... ... ..and over the crown So ... ... ... Now, when I do this overnight it it has a chance to curl longer it ends up being quite a bit shorter.. Sometimes I wear my hair short like that, and instead of pulling it down, I just like smoosh it up in the roots and spray it and then other times. I just let it do its own thing. Now take a look.. You hear me talk often about lifting the circumference of the crown. That'S this area right here.. Now, in my case I tend to have an egg-shaped head. It goes like this., So this part of my hair needs to be especially augmented and the back of my head isn't exactly well, it's not the best shape, but I'm not complaining because I can work around it. So I'm going to show you what i do with backcombing and a little bit of hairspray. Ok, so here are the tools I use.. This is hair padding. This is a bumpit that I've made I've got several different sizes, etc. There just made out of hair that I got at the dollar store wrapped it in a hairnet that you can get at your local drug store, and I use this to shape or to lift at the back of my head., And here is just one extension.. It'S a dark grey that i will put it over top of that just to add a little bit of of darkness to give the hair in the back of my head, some ... .... It is dark, so this is just going to add a little bit more. Give me just a bit of a different look Now when it comes to backcombing. Here is the trick After I've separated ... .... I take ... ..I separate here where I'm going to put the fullness in.. Now I separate the hair, but I don't pull on it except at the roots, so I go in backcomb the root and there you have it. Now, underneath that sometimes I will place my my hair padding other two and then I put the extension over top of That. Other times I will just take a second section: ... ..and backcomb that.., so I'm going to go without the hair padding today, ... .... So what I do is, if I'm not going to use the here padding. I put the extension between the two pieces that I've backcombed.. Do you see how this is sticking out a little bit The backcombing underneath the extension gives the fullness that I need or that I could get from the hair padding.. Then I'm just going to put my own that the top piece over top of that and just play around with it. Give me a second, because I need to see what the back looks. Like.. Ok, I think that's fine.. I'Ve got the fullness that I need.. I'Ve got a nice shaping and that works for me great now. What I could do and what I would do on other days is. I have a second here piece here that I use and I would make a parting ohl right about here with the hair up back home in a bit place this in that the hair over top to give me extra fullness. But it's monday it's my reading and and journally day, so I'm not going to do that.. However, even though the back and a crown have been taking care of nicely, i still have the sides here. The egg shape that I need to get rid of.. So a simple way to handle that or wherever you find you want fullness is to ... make a part, don't disturb the curl, but just backcomb the root, and you can hair spray it a little. If you like. See how that works, I'm going to do a little on the other side here again, not distributing the curl too much, but just getting to the root..backcombing there.. a little hairspray and voila.. So I'm going to pull this down a little bit because that's not really what I'm going for., So you can see how doing that with the backcombing at the root and a little bit of hairspray, you can augment shape, redefine the size, do whatever you want. Now, Let'S say ... .., here's another thing: ..., you need a little more fullness at the bottom. I go in underneath again with my comb, just backcomb the roots. Sometimes I spray. Sometimes I don't and do you see how that pulls it out? So I have to even myself up over here. Do the same thing There now I feel like for a monday, just my relaxation and spiritual day. This is this is fine. This works great, you know my. My makeup is simple and easy, and I do it in five minutes. and, like I said it only takes about 15 minutes with these curls to get just from my hair and for those who have wavy hair but would like to have a little bit more wave To their hair, I think this is a good approach and again remember if you want more of a spiral curls and you curl vertically. And once again as a reminder, if you want the bigger curl, they use two fingers, or maybe even three fingers depending on your Hair texture, your length, your head shape, all those things need to be taken into consideration. Anyway. This is just to show you. I hope that it's helped., I have many requests about: ... .ah. You know ... .my, hair and as you've seen it's. You know. I'Ve got here like everybody else, and I just augment it and help and if I'm going out by the way it going back to hair extensions, I have a few extensions that are just like this and I will just put them in at the sides or any Place where I think I need a little extra, you know for red carpet events or just you know, partying or weddings or whatever.. Little extensions can do so much. They don't need to be big long things you don't need to put in all kinds just pieces as you need them like for me today, just one piece at the top and not even using the hair bumpit. Anyway. Ladies I'm going on so I hope that helps a you as far as the curly haired beauties are concerned, and those who have maybe just a little bit of curl that they're noticing happening as you've turned gray. I never had this curl or there until after well. After the finish line, I notice it's starting to happen, so you know, instead of trying to fight it, I'm working with it and it's turning out to be a pleasant new way to wear my hair Anyway. I hope that helps and I'll put some links in the video as it to where you can look at this. This kind of just simple, easy, everyday makeup, and if you have any questions, let me know in the description box below Chic. I think so. Anyway, we'll see you next time.

Susan Schug: I am so happy to have found your channel! It is hard to find REAL mature women over 60 who are ready to talk bare-faced to a camera. Nearly every YouTube video I have found features much younger people. You are my hero! Thank you, thank you, good to see that someone else cares about looking pretty! You are beautiful!

kyahgirl: Oh Sharon, I just love this video. I’ve watched it a few times because I really need to learn new skills to handle this Curl that’s emerging with my silver hair. You are the only person I’ve found to show the proper way to do pin curls and to explain about the horizontal versus vertical setting . Anyway , thanks, as always, you are the best!

Pamela Roberts: I can't tell you how much I appreciate the public service you did by sharing this curling process. Thank you for your generosity.

Susan Ashworth: Wonderful tips. My favorite part is that when you're all pinned up, you're still perfectly presentable. A much nicer look than hair rollers!

kyahgirl: Hi Sharon. I specifically came looking for your video on pin curls after you mentioned in our GGLI group that there is a correct way to do them. I’m going to experiment now. Sharon, I really appreciate all the time and effort you’ve put in to these many and varied topics. Your humor, humility, and authenticity just warm my heart and make me smile every time I watch your videos. All the best, Laura (Balanko).

Dolores Mitchell: Wow! You are so inspirational to me. I'm going grey now and I never thought I would do it. You also have the exact green eyes like me and I was looking everywhere to see what grey hair and green eyes look like. And of course it is beautiful and so are you. I am going to watch all of your channels now as I'm finding them so helpful. You are one class act! Thank you.

Xavier 1: Congratulations! I love when women do not necessarily look for an easy-way-out solution to hair by trimming it all short. Hair is the crown most women must learn to know how to groom.

Deb Delacruz: My mother used curl her hair with bobby pins. I never thought I would go back to what she used!!lol My hair is gray long and wavy too. I love the way your hair looks. It is amazing what we do to look beautiful, and its nice that we don't have to look old and drab. I know I am getting older, but I don't have to look old. Thank you.

Tammi Coombs: I thought I was the only one. My hair started getting curly 6 years ago, Glad you shared that. So I tried this and I totally love it!! I'm 50 and I can't wait to try more of your tips!

Robin Gregory: Oh my goodness! Your demo is exactly what I needed. My fine hair went very white and soft so it does nothing. I was going to just cut it off but now I’m going to give your pin curls a try. Thank you!

Cat's Inspirations: Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this! My hair is a lot like yours, salt & pepper and wavy. I teared up just a little when you did the pincurls as my Mom used to do those for us as kids the night before picture day. She passed last year at 83... I loved watching her do her own pincurls and her hair was short. She would criss-cross the pins. I really like the way you do yours in a roll like a curling iron would!! I never thought of that method! Thanks again and subscribed to see more! ♥

Penny Bevill: Love seeing all these great hair tips! Thank you Sharon!

Periwinkle paris: Thank you so much for sharing. I've been trying to figure out what to do with my hair now that it's thinning and has a lot less curl. Then I came across your video. What a relief to see that your hair is exactly like mine! The pin curl idea is fantastic and I can't wait to try it. Thanks again!

Karma Lee Nash: I love that you walk us through with you. Your hair is gorgeous, and great to see you use its natural tendencies to create a wearable lovely style.

Lu G: Pin curls?! I love it!! I've always had a little wave in my hair and when I was little, my mom used to pin curl my hair. Oh my goodness, I can't wait to try this - thank you so much! ♥ p.s. The day (Friday, July 1st) is almost over at this point and I'm not sure when you'll read this, but Happy Canada Day! ♥

Colleen Carey: This video was AWESOME!!! You had such great tips and techniques, I'm about 3yrs late but better late then never right? Beautiful Curls

Theresa Smith: The Baking Soda put in dry has already given me the appearance of whiter grays and less yellowing! I have a similar curl type hair as you but my hair is fairly thick. Wavy 2c3a. I also can wear it straight or curly/wavy. This finger curling idea is GREAT!! This may be just what I need to give a more finished look to my coif! Thank you!! You are lovely!! So glad to find your channel!

Miah Leissa: Since we have the same hair, I want to share one of my fav easy-do hair preps just to make it look more civilized (I like to refer to my hair as my "mane" rather than just plain ol' HAIR lol) :) But try this sometime if you haven't yet: All you do is bring it all up on the very top of your head in a pony tail when it is damp but not soaking wet. Then, divide the hair of the pony tail into four or five sections and roll them (under) using rollers lifting as much as you can at the roots & pin them & spray it all when it's all rolled wiht a bit of hair spray. VERY easy to sleep on. I use pretty large rollers for this do. In the morning, unroll, take out the ponytail, toss it all forward, run your fingers through it, toss it back how you want it and spray a tad, and there you go! :) love it! so easy. (and I am very lazy about hair) lol Hope you like it!

Hung Pham: I love that you mentioned the overall structure. Respect your knowledge and your generosity of sharing it

SunnSpott: Great! I’ve had your video on hold for ... well, looks like years! No matter, you have helped me immeasurably. THANK YOU! I’ve had no idea about hair padding, extensions, or pin curling. My hair is just like yours. Heretofore, I’ve been spraying my hair up-side-down and scrunch-styling with a super bold hold hair spray. It’s worked, but I remember how my Aunt would pin curl her hair at night and look wonderful in the morning. Your one-finger, two-finger, tackle box approach is terrific. I’m not sure about the dark extensions, but will play around with it. Thanks so very much.

Brenda Ay: Love the tips, and have already tried them! I was thinking I might need a perm for volume, since my hair is silky straight and thin, but! this solves the volume and curl issue. Thanks so much!

Karma The Giant: Great video.  I have used pin curls before but only pined flat.  So now I know to have them stand up. Thanks. You look fabulous and hope you had a relaxing "Me" day.

Truth 2027: Great tips, Thank you for helping us curly gals! Just started graying :) Will try the pin curls. Glad for instructions!

Linda Lee: I just loved this video! My hair is absolutely thin and poker straight AND I'm growing out a pixie...UGH! I'm going to try some of your tips, though, just as an experiment. I like that you shared that you set aside Mondays for yourself and reflecting. Love your videos. You are beautiful inside and out!

Pumpkin Pie: Gorgeous ! Now I know how to handle my very LAZY curls to the ( sides ) of my face.

Marivic Florendo: thank you for this great tutorial of how to do curly waves without using heat. I did it last night and i love how my hair looks like in the following morning.

pghbekka: i'm so glad to have found you! i love my grey hair, but it's been distressing as my curls start to go. i'm definitely loving curl keeper, and i think i just have to accept that i need to put more work into it and do the pin curls. you look lovely! thank you.

Hunnie B: Hey Sharon........I have the best memories of my mom doing pin curls in my hair when I was young. Loving this wavy doo on you, so pretty........thank you for this tutorial....wishing you a wonderful week-end :)

Silver Lady: Love your channel , your so real and natural , learned a lot , thank you , your a lovely person.

Sharon La Tour: Today I tried pin curling my hair like you did! LOL I have to practice, practice, practice!! :) It did curl. I said to myself as I looked in the mirror at the pin curls''Oh, Sharon would die if she saw these'.Well, at least we can laugh at ourselves!

Marie M: Thanks so much for showing us your hair secretes.  I love your videos.   You look gorgeous.  Love the hairdoo. I appreciate that your not shy about video tapping without makeup.  I don't think I could be as brave.

Leslie Molengraaf: Fabulous video! You're rocking those silver curls so beautifully.

eclecticpango: You are my new hair guru! I have hair very similar to yours and you've given me a new path to follow.

Jane Smith: I'm so impressed. :) Thank you so much for posting your videos. I haven't done pincurls for decades but I can see this as my clue to bring home a little tackle box.

rxstrmom: I swear Sharon...I do the same pin curls when I want my hair curly/wavy except that I'm not as precise as you are. I just take "globs" of hair all over my head, roll around my fingers and pin!!!! It's so easy...hugs patti :)

Norma Strong: I'm loving my gray hair. Had no idea it could/would look this good. My color is most like yours but I still struggle to get extensions to blend. I know you really work to teach us. Another question; what color lipstick do you use? Oh, and I will try to blend in some dark pieces as I see you do.Thanks

teresa: Great video!! Helpful, easy, truthful & lovely!!

Tzuriah: GORGEOUS!!! I’ve never seen standup pin curls before. Thanks!!!! My hair was thick and straight. Uber stick straight! Then they tried me on a new medication for MS that causes hair loss. I lost about a third of my hair that time. It grew back in kinky curly. I have puffs over my ears and a fine curly “halo” effect with my straight hair. Very odd looking and I don’t know how to deal with the curls. Now something is causing me to lose my hair again. I need to try extensions, etc. Thanks for showing me how to do that too!!!!

The Tipsy Rabbit: So glad you kept your hair long...it's really pretty.

Rochelle Gentry: I'm so glad that I found you. I'm 50 and I've been going gray for a few years. I've been looking for mature updos and easy hair fixes. I have very thin, fine hair and you make it look so easy. Pin curls???? Who would have thought in this world of curling irons, flat irons, hot rollers, etc. that good old PIN CURLS would work. My great-grandmother used pin curls. I tried them after watching this video and WOW......just the look I've treated my hair so bad in the past to get. Why didn't I think of this easy fix??? It looks amazing if I do say so myself. Thanks for the help and encouragement!!!!

Mary Amolsch: Hi Sharon, I am a new viewer and I learned a lot from this video. I definitely will be trying the pincurl method. Two questions: When you are doing the pincurls at night do you dampen the hair? Also, you mentioned washing your hair with baking soda to get rid of any yellow. Can you explain how you do that? Thank you.

Janet H: Great tips!  Any suggestions for those of us who have thinning hair on the top?  I've taken after my dad and do a sort of "comb over" and also the powder to cover some of the scalp.  LOL  Talk about smoke and mirrors!  LOL  I've tried some clip ins but there's not much hair up there to clip onto, so it hurts and really doesn't look right.  Your hair looks so pretty like this. :D  TFS! xoxoJanet

Karen Kingrey: Of course I am just now finding your channel! But I just so enjoy it!!! I hope you are still making videos.

Denise Anderson: Hi there. One of your videos showed up in my Home section of YouTube and so I watched and it's perfect help for me. I'm 60 now and I rarely wear makeup, but when I do, I get a little frustrated. My skin color has changed and now I have some wrinkles. My eyebrows were black, and now salt and pepper. My eyelashes were black also but now so thin I can barely notice them. And they don't curl naturally now. I have to learn how to work with the changes and must buy different makeup. I quit coloring my hair about two years ago when the gray really was beginning to show from underneath my long hair. I have been layering it, so the gray shows through the bottom and it's mostly brown on the majority of the top. I guess it's sort of an ombre effect, so I like it. By the way, your hair is beautiful! I've never worn hair extensions, but have thought about trying it for fun. I've never worn fake lashes, but that might be helpful. I look forward to watching your videos to learn from a gal who knows how to look gorgeous. Thank you for sharing your secrets with all of us!
