Anne Marie May: If I'd ever waste money, time etc to go to a hairdresser, I'd expect it to look as if I had been to a professional hairdresser, not some thing I could do myself for free at home or get my friend to wield a pair of domestic scissors to trim up... I used to visit hairdressers, back in the times when they really knew how to expertly cut, colour, curl, style, braid etc hair. But as their standards fell and their prices rose and any hack can call themselves a hairdresser and charge rip of fees to ruin your hair, I decided that very long hair is the best way....But I have short hair fans eg sporty women who tell me they only get a good style cut etc Ie "the works" when they take overseas holidays where you can get hair really well done in even humble, frugal salons by hairdressers who really do know their trade well. Not in Australia, though, nowadays... We used to have good hair dressers in Melbourne but they have all retired now.....If you can find one and convince her to fix your hair, it's worth it. Men's hairdressing is still OK, though. ...If you just go to a traditional barber shop, typically run by a male barber who'll do your beard, too....The female men's hairdressers are OK for young trendy guys who want "man buns", weird colours and peculiar cuts etc, but probably not the more classic mature male hair and beard styles....
