How To Style Curly Medium Length - Layered Hairstyles

How to Style (Curly Medium Length) Layered Hairstyles

---This video shows how to take long naturally curly hair and cut layers into it. RaDona also shows how this cut can be styled using hairspray and then letting the hair air-dry to reduce frizz. The fun and easy part of this style is you can spray, scrunch and go. Kenzie says she just goes to school with it still wet. Pretty hard to beat the simplicity of that! So, here she is! Enjoy! Hi, I'm Regina from boys and girls hairstyles calm. Today we have Mackenzie, she come to get her hair cut and she has natural curl and what we're going to do is take some length off. She just wants all her dead ends off and she's had some layers in this, but we're obviously going to cut layers back into this and take off those dead ends, and then we're going to do a video on how to just style this um right after so I'M just show you ok, put their hair down and have to remember that with natural curl after you cut this, it's going to shrink. So you need to keep that in mind. If you're not wanting a ton of length off okay, I'm going to come straight across there. Sorry hope you can see that one that dark, Kate, okay, we just took about that much length off. Okay, you can see those in there just going to be nice and nice and fresh okay again put throwing it down comb this straight down. You can even hold it with your comb and bring this straight across. Okay, connect this and then their head, you're, going to tilt to the side towards their shoulder hold down. Take this on then bring their head back up and tilt it to the side. If you have their head down, that's going to make it shorter, okay and I'm going to take that side. Okay, just clean that down! You can see that guideline every time. I pull that down. Okay, then put the head down again come to this side. I would like to work right to left. I don't know if that's the way you you do it or not, and I just like to do that every time. Ok, so then just come over straight across ok on this side, look straight down! Sorry! Let me just hold this a little bit just so we can get that nice and even all right now side, hey, I put the head to the other shoulder as soon as as soon as you get done with the length you're going to want to come to The site either hold this out this way, you can also bring it forward to make sure that those those are even okay. Now we're going to do the layers, and I'm going to start up here in the crown. Okay, I'm going to take a section, pull it straight up. I always love layers, I'm going to take about that much and I'm going to point cut into that. Okay. This is what makes your layers, because, when you drop them they're shorter than your length, okay, then you take another section: pull it straight up point cut into that? Okay, take another section, pull it straight up! Okay, then, and down here this bottom, and I'm just going straight down the middle and you can part it off if you want to that's fine, you can see here. Let me show you this again: okay, so here's the bottom line: okay, you're, going to hold this straight up, see it fall out. All that linked fell out so you're not going to take length left as long as you just pull it straight up and wash that fall out. Okay. So then I'm going to go to the right and you can see that guide point right there. This is cutting those layers into it and I love layers with natural curl and it gives you a lot more volume and you don't feel like you're, so like it's really heavy and full around your, and this really helps us style really good again. Just take that whole bottom up, let that bottom hang out and I'll touch there. Okay. Now we have time, I'm going to part it down here to this ear and I'm going to bring everything straight up and take that loop up. Okay, then everything below hold straight up. Okay, then just let that down! Okay see those later start to fall there, okay, and I'm going to come back here to this left side, pull straight up. Okay again, take that part down to the ear, pull that all straight up. You can say goodbye to your dead ends, gon na, be all nice and healthy. Now you so that's really done okay, so there is how you cut the back with the layers in it. Okay, you can see how that's up into here, so that's going to make that forward up through here. Okay, now I'm going to take this front. Take this section! Okay! You can see that by point I'm going to angle up a tiny bit, so it's a little bit longer in the front. If you don't care, if it's a little bit longer in the front, just cut it straight across. Okay, then, take all this hair from the side of the air, pull it straight up. Okay, just go over that guide. Point come on. There then take the other side. Okay, now can be parts to this side. She likes a swoop bang, so we're going to cut into that the swoop you always want to start up a little bit and then just angle down and just barely open your shears and close them open and close open and close, but very softly. So you don't take a ton of length off or a big chunk because you're, you know closing them too hard and then we're just going to come down these sides. Okay, now just right above this and take a little section out, and I'm just going to take these and just kind of chop it a little bit just someone she Styles in there, not so heavy in that front. Okay, then, this side we're going to come over and start those layers out. Let me just grab the the bangs and then just keep going down the side. Okay, now we're going to texture her hair to help give it volume I'm going to hold this up and where it bends right. There is where you need your texture, so you're going to come in you're, just going to barely we're going to open and close again and just come up that hair strand. Don'T do it in a part or by the perimeter earlier, the hairline, you don't want any pokies. What this does is it cuts little hairs into the long hairs, so the one here sit on the little hairs and it makes it stand up. Okay, if you want, you can just hold the ends of your bangs up and just put a little bit into there. Okay, now I'm just going to show you how she Styles it it's super cute when it's done um, sometimes less product in natural curl is sometimes better with Mackenzie the way she styles. It is she's just going to flip her hair over and she's gon na spray. It and just scrunch it and then flip it back. Kate go ahead. Oh my hair, okay go ahead and flip over. So just okay. Pin right here is this okay! Thank you. Okay, just flip over this way, you're going to want to take and spray the whole bottom just take it and put it on a low. You know what on high. You want on the ball because the less the less you're blow-drying, the less you're, the better off you're. You love, hey! That'S all all she does she just phrase. It really good with hairspray scrunch that out good okay, wins the bet. Okay, me sit right here. I'M using an aerosol and you can use my hairspray like I like it, cuz it's light on the hair, so she just scrunches this with thinner sprays, and then it just dries in this. Just this soft curl and I'm going to take this off. So you can see the curl a little bit better. So if you just want never be the oldest, hopefully you can see it with that color shirt anyway, and then she just let the air dry, takes her hair about now anyhow to air dry, and then it just dries in a really nice soft look, instead of, Like what happens when you blow dry natural, curly hair it a lot, is it gets fuzzy and frizzy? And so, if you just spray and then let air dry, then it's going to lay soft and you won't have a lot of frizz and that's just how she she dries her hair. So if you have any questions, let us know face

Charlotte Newey: This is really helpful thanks. I have cut my neighbour's medium length curly hair twice now, referring to your instructions and she's delighted with the results. (And I have had no training or previous experience).

iNk Sans: You make it look easy! Great job!

Boys And Girls Hairstyles: I would call it a medium layered cut. Thanks for watching!!!

PunkyPaws: I have naturally curly hair and this type of hair cut actually looks great with my hair. I had it cut dry once and it was awful. The other day I just had the worst hair cut where the stylist just left the ends blunt and heavy with no blending or layering at all and I HATE it. Most stylists I go to have no idea what to do with curly hair, but the few who have used this technique actually did a pretty good job. I guess it just depends on what kind of curl you have. Mine are loose spiral curls.

LINDA LANGLEY: GREAT JOB -- I LOVE IT !

Boys And Girls Hairstyles: Maybe you should have your stylist watch this video. That would be the easiest thing to do. Thanks for loving it!!

TheJennydoll23: How would you cut or suggest to cut hair that has a tighter curl? My hair is very tight curls and almost spiral and I have heard differing opinions regarding layers versus all one length.

Mimi Milou: Nice hair cut! Is it hard to cut or layer hair without sectioning first?

Teena Lagree: I have never, ever seen a person cut OVER the comb.  I was watching this with my 11 yr old and we were horrified at the end results.  This didn't help my case for getting her long layers :(

RobinaStylist: She is using the wide tooth end of the comb which allows less tension on curly wet hair when combed and cut. I thought this layered haircut came out beautiful. Very nice job!

Comrade Crusader: Good cut! I Wish you would show the hair after it is dry though. Also, I will blow dry my curls on low and cold air when I am in a hurry. That cuts out a lot of the frizz.

Tracy Leicher: I've stopped going to salons, too. I've twist-cut my curly hair for years. I got tired of professional stylists ruining my hair. :(

Melissa Garcia: Don't use hairspray. And when you blow dry you need a diffuser

MissAnissaB: Mine has been curly since I was about 6 months old, and trust me it is crazy curly. But even I can comb it straight when wet because there's so much of it, the weight of the water in my hair makes it easy to comb straight. It will curl within seconds but it does go straight!

Liz Torres: LOve it. Now how do I explain this to my stylist...

sophia gott: When I've tried this exact same haircut on my natural curly hair (tried it many times over the past over 30 yrs with different hair stylist) it ALWAYS looks like a pyramid when it dries. This hairdresser is as clueless as the rest about how to cut curly hair!!

sophia gott: Totally agree. I have naturally curly hair and have never found anyone that knows how to cut it properly :(

Rae Lily: Where do I start??? Do not cut curly hair wet...never use hairspray, especially on wet hair...don’t blow dry without a diffuser...use curl smoother and gel. Good “what not to do” video.

K Davis: Hi  Thanks for the videos. I have baby fine hair and it is very oily. I would like for it to be shoulder length and low maintenance. Would you do a video?  Thanks

Lissette Rodriguez: Beautyful!!!

Gerda Gerd: I like your cut very much...this is very helpful thnx

xxxxxxxx: If you know that blow drying curly hair creates frizz... Why do it?

Taylor LaBrecque: Having naturally curly hair, I get way to nervous going to salons. Most people have NO clue what they're doing. I don't trust people with my hair. I educate myself and do it myself. It takes the worry away, and I know that it's in my hands.

Rasha_mm: I agree with previous comments, clueless when it comes to curly hair, wrong product, wrong cut, wrong methods. Wrong period. This is why I stopped going to regular hair salons because they had NO clue how to cut curly hair and that it's NOT the same as cutting straight hair. It's funny she mentions that curly hair shrinks yet she clearly completely ignored that fact as she chopped away. And another thing, my hair is super curly dry and straight when it's wet. Curly hair is not always curly wet.

ma. guadalupe hernandez: resultado: se mira bien finalmente, aunque me parece muy rustica la tecnica, pero bieen!!

yu mi be ach: I like how you push the clients head around. Having a bad day?

Magical Bevanna: This hairstylist hasn't a. Clue about cutting curly hair. You never cut curly hair like you're cutting straight hair! She committed a Cardinal, you never point cut curly hair, you will destroy the curl. Cutting curly locks is a litt

zeldahopper: She's stoked about her new cut!

HispanicHoes: Don't EVER cut curly hair again.

Sandra Les: Gahhhhh!!! Not only should you not use texture shears on curly hair, you started cutting at about 2 inches from her scalp! Even for straight hair that is a huge no! no!

Eboni Moore: Thank you. Can u tell me what that cut is called i know it's layers but witch type?

Yadira Banegas: NEVER use hairspray on curly hair... Ot just makes it frizzy. Use a curling mousse or a curling cream. Not hairspray. Nd use a diffusser not just straight up blow dryer.. But the cut looks good.

lucy rosevelt: yes! so agree. The cut is bad - her hair is beautiful and full. It's all in the cut. So friggin hard to find a hairstylist who knows how to layer hair properly :(

april melchior: Not to be mean, I'm sure this would be a great cut for straight hair, but this stylist has no idea how to cut curly hair, curly hair should never be textured using thinning shears, it creates frayed ends on curls. Also, curly haircuts are best done on dry or slightly wet hair, never combed through, this stylist simply cut layers the same way that would be done for straight hair.

majobsas: You have to show it after 1 hour when is dry... thats how we can tell if it's a good cut or not!

Miss Lorenaa: Curly hair should be cut after its AIR dried not wet because when it dries and curls it looks shorter than you want

muskndusk: That's a great cut for her hair. I have similar hair and wish my stylist cut it like that. I saw a new one this time and though he was a nice guy, bit disappointed by the cut.

MysTaria87: Her hair looks more wavy than straight, but I do see why people are upset. Her hair literally looks straight when wet, that's prob why the stylist decided to cut her hair that way. Looking at her hair though, I don't even consider it curly.

Ldy Red: Hairspray on curly hair? Where's the curl creme or curl gel and what about a diffuser?? With the hairspray its going to dry sticky and just end badly. :-(

KatharineAnn: I don't see why so much hate. For wavy to loosely curly hair I don't see why this can't work well. Her hair looks very similar to mine, and my old favorite hairstylist always used to cut my hair like that and it looked great. There's no one type of curly/wavy hair..this kind of haircut looks great on me for example. Anyway I don't get the hairspray thing either though - wouldn't a curl cream and a diffuser be better?

Aishas' khara hayat: she didnt look too happy by the end of it :(

brodybaby66: do you ask your clients if they want to be on camera?

NievesChik: What curly hair??? Why does people always say they have "curly" hair when there's a slight bend!!!! If there's no twirl, it ain't a curl!

boghabaisti1: got very curly hair too and no way could i use hairspray or dryer without diffuser its dead straight when wet but as soon as it dries its like tight curls ..felt sorry for this kid her head just being pushed in all directions

Tracy Leicher: Using hairspray as texturizer? OMG. No.

AlattaBS: Don't listen to these nitpickers. I have naturally wavy/curly hair and it's fine textured. It gets super frizzy and puffy, it especially mushrooms out like mad on the bottom. I've been experimentally cutting my own hair since the dawn of time. And I have to say, this is the BEST tutorial that I've ever come across. My hair is finally laying the way I want it to. I might've went overboard with the thinning shears, but it's cool. As far as the 'yanking' goes, hair and teeth are regarded equally important. So don't be surprised when you're approached from crazy angles by the exuberant artiste.

Molly A. Badgett: That's a lot of hairspray!!!

tflood3: every stylist learned differently how to cut hair , that being the case , its not how i would or learned how to cut curly hair for its not the same as straight hair nor is it the way i would give my client layers on any type . i'm sorry if hurts anyone's feeling s

Boys And Girls Hairstyles: Thanks for the nice comment...

EmbraceWithin: Totally ruined that poor girls hair... someone did that to me too... cried for days waiting for it to grow back again

Joy: That's a long video with no end result of how the hair looks when it's dried.

Dana Lynn: Some people mean well. But don't really understand curly hair.

Melissa Garcia: You're suppose to dry cut curly hair

regaljasmine: All beautiful long hair gone haha also thats wavy hair not curly/spiral

Caroline May: This poor girl. Getting her head thrown around while her hair is being destroyed. There is no organization to this at all.

Valerie J: There was a little girl and she had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead, and when she was good she was very, very good and when she (the hairdresser) was bad, she was horri(fie)d.

Su Zie: You don't need to be pushing that clients head around like you are!

Charlotte xo: You cut really much if you just cut it good the first time tham you didn't have to cut sso much

klodia klodiana: nice

edward boyle: I was hoping this little girl turned around and slapped the crap out of you for the way you kept pushing her head everywhere, not professional. I felt like it 1980 & I was watching my sister get her hair combed by my grandmother in the kitchen. Thanks for the trip down memory lane but you need to knock that off.

Robin Stachnik: You don't cut curly hair wet.

calberkeley01: if your hair is straight when its wet then thats not curly hair. My hair is just as curly wet as it is dry. video is no help

Lara: It was painful to watch. Just observe the facial expressions of the client and look how hard your hands act on her haed to tilt her head. It is rough and annoying. Please be more gentle.

moschx3: she seems to be really happy....

Anna Ilina: Такое лицо у модели!))))))

yahaira8a: Not be mean either, but I agree with April Melchior. Also, hairspray is the worst styling product for real curly hair. You will end up with sticky super crunchy hair. I guess to each it's own though..

tamahana tamatoa: poor girl, she treats her like a mannequin, pulling his head and hair very roughly

Mrawleth: You're wrong, everyone's hair is different, Mine is really curly, but when it's wet, it is straight.

GSEN Admin: This has got to be the worst styling/cut video I’ve ever seen. 1 that’s not curly hair, 2 this girl doesn’t look good with this style/cut, 3 don’t be proud of using aerosol which destroys the ozone, 4 this is why I don’t trust people with my hair.

Aaliyah Henderson: I hate when people with straight tries to work with curly hair or cut it!! You don't know what your doing I swear. I don't care if you studied cutting hair. Curly hair is wayyyyyy different from straight or really loose wavy hair. I have curly hair so I know what I'm talking about

samari3: Those scissors look and sound so dull , they almost look like kindergarten scissors. , omg

Reilly O'Byrne-Inglis: wow her hair must feel really gross....so much hair spray. I have super curly hair. Best shit is Maroccan oil.

gera hdz.: Ola I really like your videos but I like it better if you take video d full body dijieras that your hairstyle or cutting type le bas to be your model

Boys And Girls Hairstyles: Yes we do.

Farrah Nicole Nassar: Horrible.  This poor girl will need years of regrowth to fix what was ruined in a 12 minute video!

karnrochelle: ummmm that is not naturally curly hair... at all

MissAnissaB: Well that was a waste of 12 minutes of my life. You have no idea how to cut curly hair.. you said curly hair shrinks then went ahead and cut about 4 inches of wet hair which on my hair would mean that once dry I would have lost about 8 inches of hair. And hairspray on wet curly hair? You're crazy!! Stylists like you are the reason I can't trust anyone to cut my curls!

Sunny.bias: Poor girl, you pull her hair a lot and push her head - she looks in pain :( and the technique and products are SOOO wrong!!!!!!

jbug watson: Annoying lol the girl looks in pain ...lol. take time to akso thinl while cutting and each section shod be checked

jessicaelaine: oh you guys shut up about her positioning the kids head...some stylists dont and the haircut looks like shit...great haircut!

Justin W: That's not really curly hair, its like stringy crispy hair.  Curly hair has a spiral shape to it.

ALLTECH TRANSMISSIONS:

Pam Grimm: Hairspray? Really? There are much better styling products made for curly hair.

Ari Gardner: A) That's not curly hair. B) Curly is best cut try C) That layering is gonna look like a Christmas tree D) I feel bad for that girl she's gonna have a long grow out. I have curly hair and work in the industry.

Thanh Son Ha: see model's face. OMG !

Gabi Risteski: what kind of bangs dose she have cause i have curly hair and was told not to get bangs

Karla Curly: The client looks irritated

JANSET: Best comments ever ^_^

Laura Atwell: Holy crap she didn't even section off her hair. She cut chunks at a time.. Meaning that the hair isn't in natural fall because the scissors are pushing the hair; when the shears should be cutting like butter. Yikes

Marijke van den Berg: This girl has no curls at all? Not even wavy hair, it is just messy. Poor girl. This is my worst nightmare if I have curly hair.

christieyvette.: hairspray!!??

idohare: I don't know way u people r so rude. If u know so much about cutting and styling ur own hair then y r u watching hair videos?

Maribelgarciam6: All bad!!! That first cut made me cringe

Matthew Broussard: those scissers suck!

seeminglyinteresting: Terrifying!

MySnowPatrol: She no looki happy... o.o

Joy & Wisdom: This young girl ought to smile , wish we could see the real end result , dried ☺ , This is curly hair people , it's more than just a simple wave. I don't think it's the worst cut ever like so many people have commented , just not the best. I prefer not to get down right ugly & nasty as others in this comment section , there is just no need to be without class or manners. So sad what society is coming to , even swearing in the comment section ( shame on all of you ) who have filthy mouths !

Esther Baiz: Too much hairspray

Sue G: Poor kid
