My Day 5 Curly Hair Refresh | Youtube Is Hard

Hey all, today I wanted to show you all how I refresh my day 5 Curly Hair! Normally, I would have washed my hair by now, but today, I thought it might be nice to sit down and show you all how I refresh my hair.

Also, YouTube is Hard! I had no idea going into this how hard YouTube would be and how time consuming. Let’s talk about it!

Honestly, this might not be the best time to film. Both of my pets are waiting for their food and they're. Just looking at me like what are you doing? Hi everyone welcome back to my channel mr nightingale here and today. Well, we're actually trying something a little different if you're new to my channel hi welcome, don't forget to subscribe down below to keep up with my wig journey. So today i kind of wanted to talk about a couple of things that have been on my mind. Lately. I thought it might be good to just kind of let it out. I don't know i don't i've never done this before. So i'm sorry, it's not scripted. It'S gon na be very weird, i'm just gon na kind of wing it, i guess so anyways. I thought, while i talk about these things, maybe i can show you guys how i refresh my hair, just because i was gon na do that anyway today, so um yeah, i guess let's get started, so this is my little hat that i sleep with um. Just you know helps protect my hair and inside you can see that it's like satin lined or something you can also see some of my shutting in there don't worry about that, but anyway, satin lined on the inside keeps the hair, nice and protected. I also sleep on a satin pillow case, but don't worry about that so to refresh my hair, i'm going to be using the shea moisture, jamaican black, castor oil strength and restore leave-in conditioner, and i'm also going to be pairing that, with the shea moisture, coconut hibiscus Curl enhancing smoothie, so these are my two favorite go-to's um yeah. I use these to stop my hair regularly. I use it to refresh. I use it for everything. Oh also right. Before filming this, it was so stupid because my spray bottle broke, which is what i normally use to refresh my hair. So i bought this ugly little thing from the grocery store like five seconds ago uh. I don't know that this is even gon na be enough. Water for my head, but you know we'll see we'll try whatever. So it's been roughly about five days since i washed my hair. Normally i wash my hair on wednesdays and sundays, but i don't know this week. I don't know i just haven't felt the need to so we're just going to refresh it today, i'm going to start by taking down my braids and letting my hair out um, you might want to be gentle in this process. I just kind of you know. Take it now whatever but anyways. I thought you know this process is pretty self-explanatory. You can just see what i'm doing so. I'M gon na go ahead and just start venting. I guess so yeah it's been about. I don't know seven or eight months since i started youtube and you know it's hard. It'S a lot harder than people say or like i've, never really seen anyone talk about how hard youtube is it's not the kind of video that i've ever seen or clicked on? I'M sure that they're out there, but i don't know i just i thought - maybe it might be nice to give some insight to some newer youtubers. Like i said i only started about seven months ago. I have not blown up big. I don't have a huge following and honestly, that's not a big deal to me, but you know for some people they. It is that's why they do youtube. I don't know if you can hear my cat screaming in the background, but i apologize. If you can that's how he gets when he's waiting for his food anyway, as i was saying, i'm i just feel like you know, youtube is surprisingly difficult. I do have a full-time job. So to me this is just a hobby, something that i do for fun and more specifically, i do it because i want to help people. You know i don't really see many guys doing wig reviews, i'm sure, they're out there. I just haven't found them, and i also have you know a widow's peak so like a strange, hairline um, that's not very typical for wig wearers and you know i'm a dude. I have a bigger head like just naturally, so it is helpful when looking for wigs that might be big head friendly. You know being able to recommend that, for you guys and in general, i just found that there were a lot of wigs that i was interested in in particular synthetic wigs, really fun bright, bold colors, that not a lot of people were reviewing. In fact, most people just weren't reviewing them at all. Everyone wants wigs that look super natural, and i want a wig that, yes, some that are very natural looking, but also just some that are fun. You know something that you like something fun or even for a dress-up or you know whatever the occasion may be so real quick. This is what my hair looks like just out of the braids, and i know it looks a little crazy. So, let's fix it up. The first thing i like to do is i go to my temples. Is this my temples? I don't know i go to like these points of my head and i just part my hair there, so we're just going to do that by the way this doesn't have to be perfect at all. You know just part your hair. However, you want. I find that parting. My hair just makes everything a little easier and then i just kind of leave these two sections as two big sections, so i'm gon na start spraying them down. Please tiny little spray bottle work. For me, oh yeah. I can already feel the carpal tunnel setting in. I think the most important part for me is just making sure i get this top layer and then this underneath and then i just kind of like scrunch it all together. You know make sure that it's all thoroughly coated and then i kind of split it like roughly in half and then i you know spray inside this ensures that i coat everything the spray bottle is actually working. Surprisingly. Well, i think so. Anyway, yeah youtube has been a lot harder than i anticipated. You know, even though i'm doing this for fun, i feel like there's kind of like pressure. I suppose you know to upload regularly. It can get pretty expensive. I mean it all depends on your channel, but obviously i'm reviewing wigs wigs can get kind of pricey and you know i'm not going to collaborate with brands whose products i generally don't like. All of my opinions are always going to be very honest, that's something! That'S really important to me: i've looked at some videos before and then you know ordered something because someone recommended it and it shows up, and it's just garbage i mean it looks nothing like what they described. It feels nothing like what they described. So i always try to be as honest as possible. Obviously you know my opinions might be different. What'S soft to me, what's heavy on me might not be heavy on you and, of course, because i have a bit of a bigger head that also determines how something's going to lay on me. You know not everything's going to look good on me and i acknowledge that, but i'm not here to lay and slay wigs. We have so many amazing youtubers, i mean god so many that can just lay anyway good or bad quality. So i'm not really here to do that. I'M just kind of here to give an honest opinion. You know i'm not trying to make wigs work for me. I'M not focused on that because i want you, if you're a beginner, to know exactly where you're getting right out of the box, and then you know, if i could do it. So can you okay? I don't have years of experience in this honestly. I have no idea what i'm doing, i'm just winging it half the time, all right and now same thing to the top section, so you know spray it down. Obviously the ends are some of the most important parts that you need to make sure you get in there. You know it's interesting. This process normally doesn't take very long, but maybe because i'm talking through it, it feels like it's taking a lot longer. Also, editing is like something that people just don't talk about at all. I haven't really seen any youtubers talk about how long it takes them to edit how much editing they're doing at once i mean i'm, usually working on like two or three videos. At the same time, and honestly, editing usually takes me like at least a week after i finished filming. So to give you a sense, i will try to film the video. Then i have to review the footage, because lord forbid, that i did everything installed the wig and then all the footage is messed up like it's happened a few times and it can get very frustrating okay. So far so good, so i mean i'm not looking for my hair to be drenched. You know, i just need it to be wet enough again, it's a refresh. He says, as he continues to spray down his hair, so i'm going to go in with the leave-in conditioner next again splitting everything into sections. I don't know it just it's a little disheartening. You know like in some cases i feel like i'm pumping out videos like really fast like these last few weeks, i've been doing two to three videos a week, which is very unlike me. I normally only try to do one a week, but you know i've been doing some collaborations with some wig companies and wig vendors and it's really fun. I really like doing that, but you know there's a bit of a pressure like sometimes i'll ask that you have the video out within like three days four days or even a week of receiving the product, and it's like okay, i mean you know. I have my own videos that i want to film, so there's also that, but at the same time i don't want to miss the opportunity, and i really want to provide you all with products that i really like. So if i do generally like the product, you know i will prioritize it, because i can always get to the wigs that i want to do a bit later on. I think in general, i'm going to try to soften my workload a little bit. You know balance it out. I feel like it's been pretty heavy lately between my actual job and then between this. So i definitely want to make sure that i'm taking the time for myself for my mental health and at the same time i don't want to bombard you guys with so many videos. Like i don't know, i know i get a little stressed out when youtubers are putting out like five videos a week like that's a bit much in my opinion, but obviously you know to each their own. You can already see it coming back to life, so i just kind of rake the product you know through my hair and once i feel like a section is thoroughly saturated. I take a little bit more and i mean like like a little bit and i rub that in my hands and then i just kind of you know, i think they call that, like the praying hands or something i don't know, i just you know, run it Through make sure that there's minimal tangles in my hair but you'll notice that at no point did i grab like a hairbrush or anything i just kind of finger detangle, and that seems to work really well for me, particularly on refresh days. I had no one tell me: i had leave-in conditioner on my beard. Oh well. I also feel like i'm taking a risk whenever i do videos like these, like you know, i'm a wig channel, but i don't know, do i want to get into some hair care? Some styling, you know like there's a lot of ideas that i've been playing around with, but i don't really know how my audience will react and then i stop - and i remember like i'm, not i'm not a wig channel, i'm just a guy reviewing wigs. You know like there's so many other things that i could be doing to help people. I could be maybe doing some styling videos. Maybe i could be doing some videos like this one, where i show you the products that i love i remember growing up. I was the only one in my family with curly hair, so no one knew how to take care of my hair and honestly, they would just shave my head and now that i'm older i've been forced to learn how to take care of my own hair, which I'Ve been very grateful to like the natural hair movement and all these amazing women here on youtube that have taught me so much. You know like naturals85 love her videos she's like og youtuber. I love her so much and you know i learned a lot from that channel and i feel, like i don't know in a way i i would like to give back. You know to the community for how much they've taught me and they've really helped me learn to love myself and my hair, because growing up i hated my hair. I was so insecure about my curls, it's silly to say, but honestly, like i know, a lot of people have the same experience where they don't love their hair. They didn't love their hair and a lot of it is they didn't know how to take care of their hair. It'S not even that they don't like their hair. It'S their hair. Just is a mission. It'S it's hard, it's challenging, but now that i've learned how to take care of my hair and what works for my hair, i just kind of do my own thing. You know also, i'm sorry. I know i'm not looking at the camera that much i'm just kind of you know applying product and thinking and letting my mind wander. So, i'm sorry if this video isn't um structured. I guess, oh by the way i have pretty thick hair, so i probably wouldn't recommend that you use as much product as i'm using if you have um, either less hair or finer hair, but yeah you might be looking at me like. Oh, my gosh she's just throwing product on and uh yeah. I am that's kind of how my hair works for better or for worse. I just go through product like no other okay, so i like a really clean part. So let me fix this up real, quick. Okay, good enough, maybe not really clean but clean enough. So the last thing i like to do before i move on to the curl cream is i actually grab just a little bit more and i put it right at the part. For me, this helps with flyaways and it just helps smooth down the part. You know keep it still that way if i'm walking around in the wind or something my hair is not going crazy. There'S some moments that i look back on some of my videos and i'm like wow. That was really nice or you know that was funny, but listen. Have you ever tried? Oh, that was a long hair. Um! Sorry! Sorry about that. I don't see anyone talking about how awkward it is to film, because sometimes you know like when i post a product photo. You know i'll, be like oh and i'll post a product photo right over here and then i just stay there. Waiting like it's so silly or i'll, make a joke, and i think it's really funny, but no one's laughing, because there's no one, i'm in a room by myself talking to a camera - and i don't know like i don't know if people realize that. But it's it's just awkward or even when i do my little turnaround to show you guys all the angles i'll be like standing there or sitting there. I guess just staring at the wall waiting counting like five seconds so that you know i feel like i've shown you guys enough. So little things like that, like it's just a really awkward process. I guess i'm a really shy and awkward person to begin with um, which seems to be a recurring theme with youtubers, like a lot of them claim to be really shy or really awkward, or you know stuff like that. It'S just something that i never really hear. People talking about you know like how awkward it is to film yourself and to edit and to hear your own voice. Oh my gosh, you become pretty insecure. Just like looking at all your mistakes. Listening to every slip-up you make like you guys, don't get to see all the things that i cut out. You know like i, edit out a lot like i say, um a lot. I pause a lot so like for your viewing pleasure i'll try to skip those parts, um see doing it again, it's tricky. I wish people talked about it more, but at the same time you know like i don't know how many people even care about like how hard it is. You know to start a channel or like for me the nerves that i had to work up to even start a channel in the first place, because again, i'm very shy. So i've been talking about doing this for gosh five years now and then i finally just did it. I was like you know what worst case scenario. I could just delete it at any point, but yeah i mean got ta start somewhere. I guess all right. So now i'm going to go in with the curl enhancing smoothie and you know same thing, one two three boom it's been hard, but i feel like there's such a great community here well on this wig side of youtube. I should say i can't really speak for um other places in the beauty community, because i've seen a lot of drama over the years, but at least over here i feel surprisingly supported. You know and - and i feel like everyone here has just been so nice and very accepting you know i wasn't sure what it would be like just you know: random dude coming into the wig world um, but yeah it's been, it's been surprisingly fun. Everyone'S been super. Nice super supportive. I honestly haven't really gotten any mean comments, and even if i did, you know, like kind of expected it going into all of this, but honestly huge shout out to all of the like full-time youtubers that do this for a living that you know love it. Do it come to like work every day and that are genuine the whole time, because it's hard it's so hard, and maybe i don't know, maybe it's because i have all these other things. Maybe it's easier for some people, i'm sure, but for me yeah it. It really drains me in a way - and i feel like sometimes i just want to take a break and for some reason in my mind, i'm like oh, you can't take a break and then i'm like that doesn't make any sense. This is literally a hobby like i could do whatever i want and yet there's something like mentally preventing me from doing it. So it is hard um, oh by the way, sometimes i like to like twist up a section to make sure it stays uh kind of moisturized. I guess, while i work on another section it doesn't, i don't think it actually makes any sense um. I just kind of do it. Listen everything i do is just whatever works for me. Okay, i'm not telling you that this is like the way to do it or not the way to do it. It'S just the way that i do it. Although there are, you know, i'm happy to take the criticism. If there are any suggestions that you all might have for me, um, i'm always curious to try out new things, new products and yeah. I mean i'm just happy to learn and that's the thing i want. Other people to learn too, oh, i don't know why i just did that. Look i never scrunch my hair. I feel like that. Just gets it like really frizzy. In fact, i focus on trying to like kind of straighten it out as much as possible and that naturally forms like the clumps that then begin to curl as they dry. That'S just you know for me and my hair, but everyone's hair is a little different. I see everyone else, scrunching pretty much all the time um, but that is something that i just don't do like ever it's a lot of raking, but no scrunching, not in this channel and then again i grab a little bit and i put it up apart. So boom boom just kind of put it on there pretty much secure my part and yeah i mean i just kind of caked the product on. I don't know why, but my hair loves this stuff, like just eats it right up. My scalp doesn't really get greasy like that, like my hair, doesn't get greasy or oily you'll see that the moment this dries it just kind of becomes fluffy. I don't know, i don't really know what to call it but yeah. So that's like the basics of the refresh um i'm going to. I don't know. I don't really have anything to do today, so i'm probably just going to let it air dry as far as drying goes. It depends for me. Sometimes i blow dry, my hair. If i have to you know like go somewhere, you know, maybe i just don't want to wait hours with my hair wet, but on a refresh day it tends to dry a lot faster. So i usually just let it air dry and it usually dries for me within an hour as opposed to when i wash my hair it'll, take like six hours for my hair to dry. If that so yeah, let me go off camera and i'll be right back when my hair is dry, all right everyone, so it's been roughly. I don't know i'd say about like an hour a little bit less and my hair is mostly dry. It'S not fully dry but honestly, like i just want to be done with it today. So here's what i do once my hair is fully dry. I highly recommend that you do this once your hair is fully fully dry so that you get as much definition as possible and you don't create any frizz. But honestly, i don't personally care that much like it's not that deep, a little bit of frizz is actually pretty good. In my opinion, i think it just helps give a little bit of volume but anyway, so all i do is i go through and i just start scrunching out my hair. Now don't come for me. I know i thought i don't scrunch okay, but that's when applying product i don't scrunch the product in, but after the fact i do go in and just kind of try to break up my curls a little bit. You know slowly going through. I think that this helps make them a bit more fluffy, especially at the ends. I find that you know the ends. They tend to get a little. I don't know they need help. Okay, that's all i know so going through scrunching, there's no product on my hands. No, nothing i'm just scrunching, what's already there and then usually at the very end, i'll go around where the part is and i'll just kind of tug at the top of it like. So, as you can see, that creates just a little bit more volume in that area, rather than having just like a flat part. I don't really like that. Look well on my head at least also, if you want like volume volume. Obviously, you can, like you, know, push it up or whatever, but get a pick and then just start picking at the root, not the end. Otherwise, you're just going to get a lot of frizz but pick up the roots and that's going to make your hair a lot bigger a lot fuller, so yeah. This is pretty much it. This is what i do to my hair to refresh it um honestly, i don't really refresh my hair, probably as often as i should, i tend to just put on a wig when my hair reaches that point and then just move on uh. That way i kind of save up on product because, as you can see, i use a lot of product probably way more than i should so don't get me wrong, i'm you know learning trying to figure it out, but yeah i mean i find that the more Product i use the better my hair turns out versus. If i use a little bit of product, i don't know my hair just gets frizzy and gross after that many days of not washing. You know what. Maybe i will focus on like a little bit of a hair care series. I think that might be fun to do and by hair care series i mean learning how to take care of my hair. I don't even know my own hair type, i'm pretty sure. I'M in like the threes, but i feel like i have a mixture of 3a 3b and some 3c. So honestly, if you know my hair type and you can figure it out for me uh, let me know in the comments down below that would be super helpful. Also, i have a few last minute rounds that just kind of came to me as i was letting my hair dry um. My camera actually dies at the 20 minute mark. I don't know why. It only lets me record 20 minutes of footage and then afterwards i have to you know, take the sd card. Put it into my computer, delete everything and then start filming again. So it is a lot of work for me and you know sometimes i wish i could just do like one long filming session, but i can't really do that. That is something i kind of struggle with. So if there's any cameras that y'all would recommend for filming on youtube, please let me know. I think that would be really helpful. I think i already mentioned this when i was talking about the editing, but oh my gosh hearing the sound of your own voice and really understanding the way that you behave, the things that you say how often you mess up or don't mess up like those things, Are kind of jarring to notice? Like i don't know, i guess i just never really thought about how i am or why i am and seeing myself on camera has been really eye opening. Oh also, i don't know if i said this earlier or not, but yeah. I did this on day, five hair. I also oiled my scalp twice this week, so there is a lot in my hair right now, like. I can't stress that enough. Okay, like realistically, it would have probably been better for me to wash my hair today, but sometimes i just need to stretch it out for just a day or two more. I want to wash it on sunday so right now, it's saturday. I want to be able to just give it that extra day, just so that i can actually use today to relax. So probably not the best thing, but everyone's hair type is different. So i know that mine can handle this for just one day, so no big deal just wanted to share with you all, because it's the same process that i would use on day two day three day, four hair. Honestly, i only refresh when i feel like my hair is looking a mess. Okay, if it looks good by day two, i don't touch it. It looks good by day three. I don't touch it if it looks good by day seven, i don't touch it, but i rarely go that far without washing my hair anyway. So yeah, that's what i deal with all right. Everyone. Thank you so much for sitting here and listening to me rand. I know that this was a very different video from what i normally do. I hope that it was at least somewhat entertaining. I do really like this kind of like conversational video, so who knows maybe i'll do a little bit more in the future, and you know. I hope that this helps someone. I get a lot of questions about my hair, so you know if you have any additional questions, leave them down below. If it's a big enough ask, then i might even just make a video on it but yeah. I hope you guys enjoyed this video. If you did don't forget to leave a thumbs up and i'll see you all next week, bye everyone
