Hi, I'm Danielle with Godiva secret wigs and this video is going to teach you how to thin out a wig. If it's too bulky now I'm going to come around, so I can show you so the main thing is: you want to use thinning shears, which are this kind of scissor, where it has these little slots in between. You want to make sure you're not using regular suit, or you will mess your wig ax so number one. If it's too thick, you want to first get rid of the top layer. You never want to cut the top layer because then you're gon na have these short little spiky pieces. It does not look good, so I'm going to just move that top layer now here. So you can see a little better, so I'm gon na just grab a little like. Maybe you know quarter inch of hair and I'm going to put the flat side here on the top I'm going to pull it over and I'm going to make a cut and you're going to kind of pull out like this. So here you see, I took out some of the hair, but not all of it, and then you can go down a little bit further and do the same thing again add my little bit of hair and you want to always do less than more. So here's my little bit of hair now, I'm gon na just put my flat piece on the top flip it over and make a cut. You always want to try and cut really close to the base you're, not getting any short hairs now. Sometimes, when the hair is coming over too much, you may want to clip it up before you do the next part, so you can keep doing that all the way down to the bottom, but one of the main things you want to do is after you've done It a few times brush it out, so you really get the look and you'll feel just a couple makes a huge difference now. Another thing you can do is sometimes the bangs might be too thick, so you can literally do the exact same thing on the banks. So again, I'm not going to use this top one here. They don't want short little hairs to show. So I'm going to do just a thin little layer here grab my scissors, then little layer and again this top part, that's solid, goes at the top. The hair goes over it I'm going to just cut right here and again, pull it up. Sometimes, if the hair is too long, you can't pull it out and you're just going to brush it up. Just like that, and so one cut makes a huge difference. But if your client or you want more pull that away and do the same thing again flat piece here, flip it over right there by the base, we're going to cut pull away so that will sit out your bangs. You can use that anywhere on the wig. That it's too thick, the other thing you can do with thinning shears, which is really great, is whether you're it's on the bangs on the edge of the wig add a layer. What you can do is actually take a piece of the hair twist it and you're going to cut at a 45 degree angle here here you can cut a couple at the bottom, depending what you want and brush that out and it'll just give a little more Pc look at ends, and so it's not to blunt, so you could do that even on the side say you had a layer, but it was looking a little bit too blunt twist cut good and the more time you cut at the bottom. The thinner is going to be at the bottom you're just going to brush, so this just gives you a little bit more of a flow, and not so blunt when you cut it, so those are the main ways to use thinning shears, like I said you can Use them right at the top, just make sure you're really cutting at the base, if you're doing the thinning, which is at the top or the bangs or anywhere throughout the wig, but again, like, I said, make sure you're cutting at the base. Otherwise, we're gon na get these little short hairs sticking up, and you don't want that. If you're doing the twisting technique, you're cutting just more at the bottom, you wouldn't start at the top. You would kind of go half way down at least and do some cutting. So that is how you're going to thin out your wig. If it's too bulky or add just a little bit of texture, hope that helps ie. You

Deb S: This is the most informative thinning video I’ve watched. I have watched a ton. Yours is the first one that shows how to thin a bang. That’s what I’ve been looking for. Another thing is you show how to use the shears. Meaning which side goes up. Thank you so much.

Chris Banzet: I'm a male who cuts my own unit, and I've never seen the "twisting hair" technique! But it makes soooo much sense! Thank you for sharing that! Also, I like the way you were very descriptive about protecting the base of the unit, and making sure they used the blank/dull side of the sheers, and then bending it over. Very nice! The explanation of "why" you don't cut the very top part of the hair was also well explained... Overall, I agree with a lot of comments here! this is probably the BEST informative video on how best to use thinning sheers! Thank you for sharing!

Rosalind Lee: I can't say thank you enough for this. I've watched a number of thinning videos and they always left me feeling like I was missing some important bit of information. Not with yours. This is wonderful! Everything is so clear and explained so well. Thank you!

Maisie33: Thank for this clear, concise tutorial! It's just what I was looking for.

D.E.T: This was extremely helpful and thorough. Thank you for simplifying it for us.

Creative Artist: The close-ups are great! It really helps to have it repeated as you've done especially on what "not" to do and what to remember to do --like flipping the top part of the hair over and out of the way. Many thanks!

Passionate Brazilian Girl.: I have been searching for this technique for many weeks now, thank you soooooo much! This video it is very helpful!

L S: This video shows the best method to thin a wig. Thank you! I was using the thinning scissors the wrong way and it wasn't looking right. I am so grateful I stopped cutting and did more research, there's a lot of bad info/videos out there on this.

Liset Medina: I’m new on wigs and I can thank you enough for this video. It helps me a lot!

CJ Palmer: I have watched this video several times and finally got brave enough to try it. I just did a little but will probably do a little more after I wear her. Thank you so much for these videos

Drumcat Fano: Your Mom should be proud. You explain things so well-Thank You for this

Wendy Summers: Excellent video! Thank you so much! Shows technique clearly and explains perfectly. I’m really glad to have found it.

Terri S: Thank you so much for this video. I appreciate that you get right to the point with your instructions, you were very clear and I'll feel confident when I make my first cut! Another video made a comment about making sure that it's fiber density and not permatease that's causing our wig's fullness. Thanks again for this fine video!

LynnDa: Thank you for this informative video! Very well done and provides essential tips to refine and perfect ones look. Again, many thanks!

Lo Ro: I've been using your method on a few of my wigs and I'm so much happier with the way they look. Thank you.

Dottie Free: Great video! Gives me hope for the bulky poofy wig I bought! Thanks for the video! Does this thinning technique help with the poofy look that perma teased hair gives or will the remaining hair still be poofy? I'm wondering if I will still have to work with a warm hair dryer and a spray bottle of water to tame the perma-teased hair after I thin it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Barb D: this was great! I learned a lot about thinning and watched your other video on making the crown smaller. Excellent thank you!

gLamVaN~: I hope to try this on my new wig tonight, can't wait! TY❤

Lia Sottolano: Very easy to follow instructions. Thank you!

Sandooch: Thanks for this video. My mom just bought one of your wigs and, as much as she loves it, she told me that she wished it was a little less full. I'll be using this thinning technique to thin her wig out.

Raizel M: You are so clever. Best wig-thinning vid ever. Thank you! I bought a new lace front, lace cap, heat resistant synth wig today. Love the rich chestnut color and the shag style but it has WAY too much hair and, on me, has what I think is a sort of wiggish-football-helmet look. Thinning it down to work with my short neck and round face will fix this and now, thanks to your totally brilliant demo, I know how to do it. New sub.

Yun Chen Wu: This is literally the ONLY vid that actually helped me with my wig!!!!!!! So sad didn’t find it earlier

I have a small head and face so most units are way too big and thick on me. I'm usually disappointed when I receive a unit and either give it away or its stored away. Now I can get them out and fix with these techniques.!

Lisa Alexander: Thank you so much!! My hairdresser thinned my wig some, but not nearly enough (she thought it looked fine, I felt it was unnaturally thick- especially since my natural hair, because of PCO is embarrassingly thin....I don't want to go from, barely there to this super thick head of hair, even people who don't see me often would notice! I've got my scissors and I'm ready to give it a go! Very informative, thank you again!!

CHERIE C.: EXCELLENT AND CLEAR INSTRUCTIONS!! THANK YOU.

Charlie Kelly: Would you recommend a beginner use shears with more teeth and less spacing between? Or fewer teeth and more spacing? Thanks so much for all your videos. I’ve learned a lot!

Trish Abramson: A well done video, thanks. I DO have one sort of technical question. Why is it important to have the flat part of scissors on top AND why do you pull the hair up & over the scissors? I'm almost ready to try this but it's a little scary too.

Simply BJs Creations: Thanks for sharing this helpful info!

Von: Wow, great tips, thank you!

Cheryl Deitz: Awesome! Thank you so much!

mattiesful: Thank you, its beautiful.

Mary M: I tried your method which works very well however I accidentally cut a small piece out of the monofilament top. Luckily it was way on the side where I won't be parting the wig. Just to let others know that you can get too close as I did and cut too deeply. I sewed it at the ends & across the tear hoping it will keep the cut from raveling. Do you have any suggestions other than sewing that might work better. Maybe a tiny bit of some sort of glue? I have some no fray fabric glue, would that work? Thank you for your response.

Marie Flower: That was very helpfull :)

Venita Jelks: Very helpful, thank you

Lillian Tom: There are many thinning shears online, some claim to be super sharp. In your opinion, is it efficient to get the medium sharp thinning shears or are the super sharp ones really better at thinning wigs? I assume we can thin your toppers, too?

Orca that wears a tinfoil hat: You are a godsend!! I had been doing it wrong this whole time

Donna: great video...and well unexplained....thank you.

mattiesful: Does that thinning help with permatease? TY

Lisa Brown: I see thinning shears with notches on the top and bottom blades, yours are only on one side. Are the double notch blades okay to use as well, is there a difference in the final outcome?
