Hi, I'm Donna Wolfe from naztazia.com Today, I'm going to show you how to crochet a hat that has a space on the top for an updo hairstyle such as a ponytail or a messy bun. By the way big. Thank you to Stacey Keele Thorngren, who revived this hat trend.. To do this, I'm using Red, Heart's, Unforgettable yarn and a size G hook., i'm also using one hair elastic., Feel free to use two of them together in case one of them breaks. To begin put a slip, knot on your hook and then do a slip stitch Around the elastic. For my hat, I'm chaining 41., My adult hat's chain will end up about 11 inches or 28 centimeters long.. However, for a child size hat, I would make a chain about 9 inches or 23 centimeters long. Skip the first chain and single crochet in each of the 40 chains.. Then single crochet around the elastic. Turn. Your work do not chain skip that single crochet around the elastic and single crochet in each of the 40 stitches in the back loops only. At the end of this row chain. One and turn your work. Single crochet in each of the 40 stitches using the back loops only. At the end as before single crochet around the elastic. Turn, your work. Do not chain. Skip that stitch and single crochet in each of the 40 stitches. Keep going back And forth in rows., You can see how I'm making progress on my hat. When you think the head is of a sufficient size and mine is 58 rows, lay your work flat and then take out a measuring tape. Stretch, the hat out. For an adult. The stretch should be around 22 inches or 56 centimeters. For a child. It should stretch to about 19 inches or 48 centimeters.. Once you are happy with your hat's size, take a yarn needle and sew that back seam closed. Here is the finished hat with a rolled-up brim.. You can see how the opening, on top stretches so that you can fit your hair through. Feel free to add a button or other decoration., And here is the finished hat. To view this.
