Original Vintage Cloche Hat https://youtu.be/3lxb-T-BtyQ

Welcome to Lil John Sean's and today we're gon na take my previous pattern: the vintage clothes hat and turned it into a messy bun hat. I can't take 100 % credit for this idea. Sure Fowler. She took this pattern and made it her own, I'm so thankful. We can inspire and share with each other and create new patterns. Let'S hop into the pattern breakdown. I'M gon na break this pattern into three simple sections. So it's easy to follow. We'Ll start by creating the base, then we'll move on to the sides and brim and, lastly, we'll close off the crown to form the messy bun hole, we'll begin by creating a ring and crocheting on the top and bottom of the original chain. You'Ll be working in a figure 8 pattern. This figure 8 is called the Mobius twist. As you build your rows, your twists will become more prominent. The top half will be the sides of your hat, and the bottom section will be the brim and the slope of your hat. Lastly, will close off the crown and form the messy bun hole. I give you two options when creating this hat one without the elastic band and a wider opening to accommodate for thicker hair and one with an elastic band for those who prefer one as usual, I provides you with time stamps for easy pattern: navigation. Alright, let's hop into the tutorial we're going to begin by chaining sixty stitches, my 60 stitches measures at twenty two and a half inches stretch 23. So if yours doesn't measure that much or you need to be bigger, either go up a hook size or go down a hook size if you notice it. That is too big all right. Once you have your 60 chains, I want you to straighten out your chain and we're gon na slip stitch to join into that very first chain stitch. Make sure your work is not twisted all right, we're going to slip stitch the joint into that very first stitch to form one big huge circle. Now we're just going to chain one and single crochet into that very same stitch. We'Re going to single crochet loosely around! So continue placing loose single crochets all the way around, and I will meet you back at the other side, so pause your video here. We'Ve made it to the very end of this row and the reason why we're placing single crochets loosely around these next two rows is because this is the center of your hat. We don't want it too snug, so it'll fit around your head. Alright. Moving on to the next row, typically, we would slip stitch to join, to form this row, but we're not going to do that. We'Re going to be working underneath the row on the unworked change from the beginning of the UM from your foundation chain, but before we start so it's easy to locate the beginning and end of your row. We'Re gon na place a stitch marker on this very first single crochet. I lost my stitch marker, so this paperclip is going to have to work. So let's turn our work upside down. So we can work on that bottom on work chain and we're going to continue. Placing single crochets I'm working over my ends as I go, so I don't have to weave in my ends later so continue placing single crochets all along the bottom of your work until you make it back to your stitch. Marker so pause your video here. Okay, we've made it back around and you should notice that you have a little twist in your work. It should be one twist that is perfectly normal. Alright, now we've made it back to our very first stitch marker from now on we're going to be working in a continuous spiral. We are not going to slip this to join, we're just going to continue working in a spiral. So, let's remove this stitch marker and we are going to double crochet into that very first single crochet and once again to keep track of your row. Please remember to put a stitch marker in oh and another quick note. Your rows are no longer 60 stitches around each row is now since you're working in a figure. Eight. A hundred and twenty stitches makes one single row alright. So you got our first double crochet in we're just going to continue placing one double crochet in each stitch. Around until you make it back to that very first stitch marker, so pause. Your video here continue placing your double crochets and I'll meet you back at the other side. Okay, we've made it back to the very first stitch marker, we're just going to remove this. So for the next eight rows, we're going to be doing front, post double crochets, so to do a front post, double crochet you just yarn over and you're gon na go. This stitch right here. Part is caught. The post, you're gon na go behind the post and push it forward like so the complete, a front post, double crochet and make sure you put that very first stitch marker in so you do not lose your place and you know where your row ends and begins. Once again, I'll show you a front post, double crochet yarn over push that post forward and complete your front post double crochet. Alright, you're gon na continue placing front post double crochets all the way around and I'll meet you back at the other side. At the very first dish, marker so pause your video here, okay, we made it back to our stitch marker and, like I said, your work is still twisted, but one twist going down the center and we're just going to remove your stitch marker and repeat all over Again so I'll show you yarn over and threat posts, double crochet and replace on the stitch marker on your very first stitch. Alright, we're going to continue placing front post double crochets for an additional seven more rows, so pause reveal here continue. Placing your seven rows of double crochet. Remember place your stitch marker at the beginning of each row, so you know where your row starts. Alright and I'll meet you at the end. Well, the completion of your seven rows. Here'S what it looks like all right. We just finished all of our additional rows, and this is what your work looks like so far. The great thing about this hat using the front post, double crochet and the Mobius twist. You can see the texture of the front and the back of your work at the same time, all right. What we're going to do now we're going to get our hat into position, the top of your hat you'll notice, because the vertical front, post, double crochets, will be going up and down vertical and down below. This will be the bottom part of your hat. You'Ll see like the vertical vertical horizontal stitches, going across side to side so place your hat into that position, and once you got it there, you see your working yarn we're going to work that all the way into the front where it crosses it can be difficult To do that, you, you know you can work it around work, the back to flatten it out. Bing bring that twist up front just like this. So next, so you can see a better example how it looks I'm going to place it onto a mannequin. Okay. We have our mannequin head and once again our hat the twist is going to be right up front. Remember where I told you, here's the working yarn and that twist is right up front we're going to place it on the mannequin. So you can get a better view of exactly what I'm doing, because a lot of people get confused at this part all right, once you have your hat on a mannequin, you can see the slope is going down this way, and the center of your twist is Where you're working on is what I want you to do from your working yarn to your right, I want you to count back sixty stitches, so one count backwards. Sixty stitches, I've already counted backwards. Sixty stitches - and I have my stitch marker right here and on your 60th stitch back. Let me see if I can get a better angle, I'm going to remove my stitch marker, we're going to slip stitch to join on the 60th stitch back, we're no longer going to be working in a figure. Eight we're going to start working in a regular circle. So we take this stitch and slip stitch to join into the 60th stitch back and now your hat is connected from now on we're going to be working in a normal circle around we're no longer going in this slope and figure eight and now we're slip. Sister joint we'll move on to the very next step: okay, we're back to where we left off the only difference. You'Ll notice, as I switch back to my main color, and we're at that slip, stitch to join on that 60th stitch back. So what we're going to do here we're just going to chain one and now we are going to front post double crochet, the next ten stitches. We all remember how to front post double crochet. Ten stitches so pause your video here and continue doing front post double crochet across the next ten stitches. Okay, we completed those ten front post double crochets. What we're going to do next is a front post double crochet, two stitches together. It'S really easy is almost the same as a regular French post, double crochet, so we're going to yarn over instead of going through one stitch, we're going to go through two. So here stitch 1 and here's stitch 2 and complete your front post double crochet as normal, and now you bring those two stitches together. I'Ll show you one more time. I want you to front post double crochet across the next 10 stitches pause, your video here and I'll meet you at the end of those 10 stitches. Okay. We continue those in this additional 10 front, post double crochets. So let's do a front post double crochet. Two. Together, one more time so you yarn over you go through the Front's fish right here and the second stitch right here, so you're, picking up two stitches at once, yarn over pull through yarn over pull through two yarn over pull through two, and that is your front. Post double crochet you're, going to repeat that sequence: all the way around doing ten front post, double crochets, followed by a front post, double crochet, two stitches together until you make it back to the other side, so pause your video here and we'll do that last stitch. Together, when you make it to the other side, we've made it back round and we'll do the last two stitches together so less front post, double crochet, two stitches together and that completes this row at the end of this row. You should have a total of 55 stitches, so next list lifts us to join in, to that very first front post double crochet you can tell where it is, because on mine is a completely different color slip stitch to join four row, twelve we're going to chain One and we're going to front post double crochet into the next nine stitches. So this is one next stitch. Alright, you can pause your video here and I'll meet you at the very next decrease, so nine stitches and then will decrease. Okay, we completed those nine front, post, double crochet and now we're going to do a decrease of a front post. Double crochet, two stitches together, sorry yarn over and go behind those two stitches push them forward and complete your front post. Double crochet, simple, as that this is going to be our pattern. Repeat all the way around. So it's nine front, post, double crochet, followed by excuse me: tongue-tied, followed by a decrease which is in front post, double crochet, two stitches together so pause. Your video here continue with that sequence all the way around. Until I meet you back at the other side. Okay, we completed that row and at the end of this row you should have a total of fifty stitches. So, let's slip this to join and if you're, following along to the pattern, we are on row number 13, so we're going to chain one and now we're just going to front post double crochet into the next eight stitches, so pause. Your video here continue placing front post double crochet into the next eight stitches, and I will meet you at the decrease. Okay, we completed those eight front, post, double crochets, and now we're going to do a decrease of a front post. Double crochet. Two stitches together go behind your work and push those two stitches forward and complete that front post: double crochet. Okay, that's going to be our pattern repeat all the way around eight front post, double crochet, followed by a decrease eight front post, double crochet, followed by a decrease and I'll meet you back at the other side. We'Ve made it back around and at the end of that row you should have a total of 45 stitches. Okay, we're going to slip this to join it to that first: double crochet back post, double crochet and our pattern. Sequence is almost the same. So we're going to chain one and we're going to front post double crochet into the next seven stitches. That'S going to be our petal sequence, so front post, double crochet into the next seven stitches and I'll meet you at D decrease. Okay. We made it to arts. Seventh stitch, and now we are just going to do our decrease so front post, double crochet, two stitches together and that's going to be our pattern. Sequence all the way around for this row, so you're going to front post double crochet into the next seven, followed by a decrease all the way around and I'll meet you back the other side. Okay, we've made it back around and at the end of this row you should have a total of 36 stitches, so we're going to slip stitch to join okay. If you have big hair like myself and usually don't fit in the messy buns, please stop crocheting at this round right now, but if your hair is thinner, we are going to attach an elastic band me personally. These little elastic bands do nothing for my own hair. Alright, so we're going to chain one and we're going to single crochet into the very same place and the elastic band at the very same time, just like that. We'Re going to be working around elastic band so for this rope, we're going to single crochet into the next stitch and now we're going to single crochet two stitches together going through one go onto the second one and single crochet, two stitches together. That is going to be our pattern repeat. So two single crochets one two followed by two single crochets: together: that's a decrease going through the first one, going through the second loop single crochet, two, those stitches together all the way around so single crochet into the next two stitches, followed by a decrease all the Way around and I'll meet you back at the other side, we've made it back around and we're going to do the last two stitches together. The last two stitches are a single crochet, two together, so go into the first one loop. Second, one put a loop yarn over and pull through all three loops on your hook and we're just going to slip stitch to join into that very first single crochet and you can fasten off your work and here's your little elastic hole for your hat I'll show. You what it looks like on and all done now. Okay, now we have our hat all done. Here'S a tricky part! Nobody ever thinks about how to put the hat on, because it's so twisted, as you can see right here. This is where we slip this to join on a 60th stitch back. That part will go directly over your ear to create this slope that goes across your face. So remember. The part work connects at the 60th dish back, we'll go and line with the top of your ear. Thanks for working with me today make sure you like share and subscribe and check out my other crochet tutorials. Ok, guys I'll see you all on a very next pattern.
