Crochet Messy Bun/Ponytail Cap With Brim

Hi everyone welcome to today's video, so in today's video we're going to crochet the messy bun beanie now um, this is the yarn that i'm going to use. This is from blue label and it's the coffee cotton range, and this does recommend a four millimeter crochet hook. However, i'm going to use a 6.5, so we are going to start by placing a slip knot on our hook like so, and we are just going to chain 24 chains, and that's all there is to the start of this. Pattern is a chain of 24 chains and i'm going to meet up with you once i have a total of 24 chains. Okay, i have a title of 24 chains and what we're going to do is we are going to slip stitch into the very first chain. So you want to line your chain through your fingers to make sure that it has no twists in it and then into this very first chain. We are going to slip stitch into there like so, and we are going to join okay, and now we are going to chain three one. Two and three and the chain three does represent our first double crochet and into the next stitch. Okay, so right in there we're going to go in there, we're going to place another double crochet and into the next stitch, a double a double crochet, well, not into the stitch, but into the chain, okay into the next chain. There we go a double crochet, and that is the repeat, for this round is just placing one double crochet in every chain and i'm going to meet up with you. When i come to the end of this round, i now have 24 stitches, and now we are going to slip stitch to join, but i do not join into the chain three. I'M going to join you right on top into this very first stitch, just right in there. That is where i am going to join, and now i'm going to chain two one and two now this chain two represents our first double crochet. Normally a chain three represents a double crochet, but for this pattern every time we start a round we're going to start with a double crochet, but that double crochet is going to be a chain two and not a chain. Three and the reason for that is, we want to minimize our join and a chain. Three will just make the joint a lot more eye-catching and unappealing okay. So we've now done a chain. Two and like i said our chain, two represents our first double crochet and we need to increase in this round. So this means every stitch needs to get two stitches. So we've just done our chain two, which is our double crochet and around that exact, same stitch. Right there we're going to go in with a front post, double crochet, okay, and that is just the repeat for this entire round. Here'S the next stitch in the top of the stitch we go in with a double and then around the stitch we go in with a front post. Double okay! Here is the next stitch. Let me just lift that up just my next stitch in the top of the stitch we double and then around that same stitch, we front post double, so every stitch gets two stitches. Let'S do that again in the top of the stitch we double okay and then around that same stitch. We front post double and at the end of this round, you should have a charcoal of 48 stitches because we started with 24 stitches and because we are doubling up and giving each stitch two stitches we're going to have a total of 48 stitches. At the end of this round, so it's just into this stitch double and around that same stitch, front, post, double and i'm going to meet up with you once i come to the end of this round, so i am coming to the end of this round. I have one stitch left so into the top of the stitch i double and around that stitch. I front post double okay and now we're going to join and we don't join into our chain two. We join here right on top into that very first stitch. We join in there and the reason why we're joining this, because we want to minimize uh the join okay, so just join the slip stitch just like so, okay and now what we just did now. We are just basically going to repeat so we are going to chain two one and two okay and our chain two represents our first double crochet and our double crochet lines up with the previous row, double crochet and then into the next stitch. Because you are not, we are not increasing yeah we've done without increasing, so the next stitch is a front post double and you can see that it is raised. So around that stitch we just front post double the next stitch is a normal stitch and into it. We just place a normal double crochet and the stitch next to that is a front post and we just go ahead and replace the front post. The next stitch is a normal and we just give that a normal double crochet and the next stitch is a front post and we just go in with the front post. So all our front posts are going to line up and all our double crochets are going to line up. The only thing to remember here is that your um double crochet is sometimes just a little bit tucked away, but it is definitely this. You just want to give your work a bit of a stretch and you'll see there. It is there. So that's the only thing that you need to keep in mind is that that um, that double crochet tends to hide away behind the front post. So just give it a bit of a stretch and you will see it is there and then the next stitch is a front post and what's quite neat, you will see that our front post of the previous round just basically acts as our guide. So yes, a double crochet, we go in it with a double crochet and the next stitch is a front post and it's raised and it is our guide. So we know we need to go in there with a front post. So all the front posts are lining up perfectly and all the normal double crochets are lining up perfectly and you can see exactly where you need to place which stitch and - and that is all there is to this now, when you come to the end of this Round you are going to do your last front, post double crochet. You always end. You always end your last stitch with the front post double crochet, and then you join into the top of the stitch, and then you just chain two and you go on, but i am going to meet up with you once i come to the end of this Round so that we can just join together and start the new round together, i am coming to the end of this round and now i have one stitch left, which is the front post, so i'm just going to go around that stitch and i'm going to place My front first and i'm going to join and i don't join into the top of the chain two. I join into the top stitch just right in there. I just go and i join and i'll chain two one and two, and this represents my first double crochet and the very next stitch is a front post and around the front post. I place the front post and into the normal double crochets just to normal and around the front post to front post, and that is just the repeat for this round and for the next few rounds. I'M going to do a bunch of these rounds and then i am going to hop on here and let you guys know exactly how many rounds i did and then we can just do that bit of a finishing edge to this and that's all there is to It so i'm going to meet up with you once i've done a bunch of rounds. Okay, so i have now done a bunch of rounds as you can see, and i have now in total 14 rounds that i've done um and you just want to put this on and see if you are happy with the length and then what i'm going to Do is, i am just going to do a round of single crochets, so i'm just going to chain one and into the next stitch, i'm just going to place a single and i'm just going to pop a stitch marker in there, so that i at least know Where i started this round and we are going to do between three to four rounds of just a single crochet okay, so we are ready to start attaching our brim onto our beanie and you just need to decide which side is going to be your front side And so this is my front side, and now what we're going to do is i'm just going to take. We need two stitch markers okay, so i'm going to take one of our stitch markers and i'm just going to pop it into any one of the stitches. It doesn't matter which one just like so now. I am going to count a total of 12 stitches and we are not counting the stitch with the stitch markers on, but the stitch right next to it. So i'm going to count 12.. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11, 12.. So into the 13th stitch. Let'S just do that again. Sorry, guys, one two, three, four: five: six: seven, eight, nine ten, eleven twelve! So into the thirteenth stitch. I i'm going to place my stitch marker, so we now have a total of twelve stitches in between our stitch markers, okay and now what i'm going to do is. I am going to um double up my yarn, so i'm going to use two strands and not one strand and the reason why i use two strands is it just makes the brim form feel more sturdy and more secure um? If you are going to use only one strand, you're going to have a brim that is going to just flop around. So i have my two strands on my hook and we are going to attach our yarn not into the stitch where our stitch marker is but into the stitch right next to it. So i'm just going to attach my yarn, i'm going to chain one and i'm going to go back into that same stitch with a single crochet into the next stitch, i'm going to place two single crochet and into the stitch next to that one single crochet, and That is the repeat: we are just going to rotate between one single two single one, single two single, so i just did one single crochet in the next stitch. We need to do two single crochet into the next stitch, one single and into the stitch. Next, to that two single and then stitch next to that one single and then two single and then one single and two single and then one single and then two single, okay and now what we can do is we can now just take out our stitch markers. We don't need them anymore. I just need to get myself sorted here because, because i'm using two strands, my yarn is like getting a life of its own okay, so we chained one okay. Now we're going to start so into the first two stitches. We are going to do a single crochet decrease, so we're going to go into the first stitch and we're going to pull up a loop, we're going to go through the next stitch and we're going to pull up a loop. We'Ll now have three loops on our hook: we're going to yarn over and we're going to go through all three those loops now into the next few stitches. We are going to place single crochets in all the stitches until we have two stitches left, because in those two stitches we need to do a single crochet decrease in those stitches, so just place a single crochet in all the stitches. Until we have two stitches left. Okay, i have two stitches left, so we need to decrease ya. So i'm going to go into the first stitch and pull up a loop, i'm going to go into the next stitch and i'm going to pull up a loop i'll have three loops on my hook. I'M going to yarn over and go through all three of those loops, i'm going to chain one we're going to turn our work and we are going to do that again, which is in the first two stitches. We are going to single crochet decrease, so we're going to go into the first stitch, pull up a loop, go into the second stitch and pull up a loop, so we're going to have three loops on our hook. We'Re gon na yarn over and go through all three loops and then we're just gon na place single crochets in all the stitches. Until we have only two stitches left. Okay, i have two stitches left and we are going to single crochet decrease, we're going to go into the first stitch, pull up a loop, we're going to go into the next stitch, pull up the loop we'll have three loops on our hook, we're going to yarn Over and go through all three we're going to chain one and turn our work and we're going to do that again. So i already chained one. I just turned my work and into the first two stitches. We are going to single crochet decrease. So i'm going to go into the first stitch, pull up a loop, i'm going to go into the next stitch, pull up a loop, i'm going to yarn over and go through all three loops, and then i am just going to single crochet in every stitch. Until i have two stitches left, okay, i now have two stitches left and i'm going to go into the first stitch and pull up a loop. I'M going to go into the next stitch, i'm going to pull up a loop i'll have three loops on my hook. I'M gon na yarn over and i'm gon na go through all three both loops and then we're gon na. Do that again we're gon na chain one we're gon na turn our work and into the first two stitches. We are gon na single crochet decrease and we go in both those stitches each time putting up a loop yarn over go through all three loops and then we are just going to single crochet in every stitch until we have two stitches left. Okay, i have two stitches left. I'M going to go into the first stitch, pull up a loop, i'm going to go into the next stitch, pull up the loop and i'm going to yarn over and go through all three those loops, i'm going to chain one and i'm going to cut my yarn. Okay, so now, in order to just um, tie everything together and to clean this up a little, we are going to place once again a slipknot on a hook and we are just going to go around our cup with single crochet. So i'm just going to attach my yarn into any stitch, but i'm working on the back part of my beanie and i'm going to chain one and into the next stitch, i'm just going to single crochet. I'M just going to pop a stitch marker in there so that i know where i started this row of single crochet and then i'm just going to place a single crochet in every stitch and when i come close to the brim. I'M going to just hop on here and just show you guys um how we place our single crochets, i'm coming closer to the brim. I have two stitches left before we start the broom, so i'm just going to place a single on each of them. There'S one and two and now we've reached our brim, and this is where our broom is joined in that stitch. So in this stitch, where we joined with um our brim, basically we need to go into that stitch with a single and now we're going to work on this side of the brim. Now these are not actual stitches. These are rows, so we don't have actual stitches to work into so we need to sort of like eyeball it. Okay, so just go into a space where we see spaces just go in there and then what you want to do. Is you want to make sure that when you do your single crochets on the other side as well, that you have about an even amount of single crochets on each side? So i'm just going to go in there and then in here, okay and now, i've reached? Let'S put one in there as well: okay, now i've reached where our corner is of our brim. So what i'm going to do here is. I am going to go into the very first stitch, because now we can actually work in stitches and i'm going to give this stitch three singles. So there's two and there's my third single and all that it does is it just gives it a little bit of a of a round shape. It just rounds it off a little okay. So then, we're just going to go ahead and place a single in every stitch, and now it's quite nice as we are working on the top of the brim. There are actual stitches to work into, so we don't have to eyeball anything here. We can just go into the stitches okay and now, once again, i've reached the last stitch of the broom and into the stitch i'm going to place three singles, there's one and two and there's three and now we are going to work on the side of our Brim, okay and once again we don't have stitches to work into, so we just need to try and eyeball it and place around about the same amount of stitches that we did when we did this side. So and now i've reached the stitch where my broom started. So right there is the stitch where my broom started. So in that stitch, i'm just going to go ahead and place a single, and now it is just free sailing. We just place a single crochet in every stitch until we come to the end of this round and then we're just going to slip stitch into the first stitch and chain one and cut our yarn. If you feel like placing another round of single crochets, you know go ahead and do that, but i have found one round of single crochets is efficient enough.
