Hey guys, I'm on my Facebook, the other day when I came across a comment posted by Q. That really got me excited it read. I saw that you like ribbon ties. Did you know that you can make them at home using fold over elastic, say what no way I've got to try this, so I booked it over to the local craft store to look for some fold over elastic and sure enough there. It was a whole section. Full of various colors and patterns they even sell elastics with ruffles. Oh you fancy huh. They also sell different sized elastics for say a headband. Maybe I just picked up a few neutrals, black and gray, with a pop of my favorite color, yellow and the only other thing you'll need to make. These are some scissors, preferably fabric scissors, but what is okay, so this is a goodie brand ribbon tie that I bought from the store I'm just taking it apart. Now I'm going to grab one of my new colors and place it next to the store-bought ribbon to measure the size and then cut it where appropriate. Another way is to just measure the store ribbon, which is nine inches by the way and just measure out nine inches on your new color. But I'll give you a hint one package of ribbon at the craft store, which is one yard, is going to give you four perfect size. Ribbon ties so skip all the measuring and just cut four even pieces. Ok, so just fold each piece in half I like to stick my pinky in the loop for stability, but that's just being extra and then just tie a knot in the very end of the opening and tighten to secure your hair type. It'S that easy! So, just repeat the process on all the cut pieces: folding it in half and tie a knot at the very end to secure it and that's it again. A standard 1-yard package will yield four ribbon ties so moving forward. Just take your ribbon off fold, it in half twice and cut the ends to make four even sized hair ties and here's to compare the homemade ribbon on top and goodie brand ribbon below they're identical, and if you want to keep them organized, you can store the Completed ribbon ties right on the same package and you bought the month, so this is pretty exciting guys. The possibilities are now endless for your favorite gentle ribbon hair ties and you would never know the difference between store-bought and homemade. Now, if you're like me, you're, probably doing the math in your head, hmm one yard is $ 3 at the store and makes for ribbon ties, but I can just buy 4 ribbon ties for 5 dollars and save my time and energy right. Am i right? Okay, so forget buying them at the crafts store. If you go online, their websites and Etsy shops, where you can get 10 yards for 5 dollars, that's 50 cents a yard. So now that's 40 ribbon ties for only $ 5. Does that sound like a money saver or what I'm stoked and I've already bought my 10 yards? Okay, so enough rambling guys get out there and start making your hair ties it's so easy and they're extremely gentle on your hair. I really hope you give this a try and if so, please send me a picture on instagram by hashtagging natural 85. I want to see the ribbon tied madness, so I hope this helps guys a super shout out and big. Thank you to cue for this fantastic, DIY and I'll, see you guys in the next one bye, more DIYs like these cute wire, headbands and homemade, deep conditioner by clicking the links to the left and come visit. The family and I over on my daily vlog Channel, we'll see you guys there we satisfy, with all I've, just kept again little little things that make me happy get up lost my nerve. I lost my grip. I noticed a gap. Alioli

Naturallyorz: I don't really wear hair ties but even I got excited watching this video. I'm all about the DIY projects and your energy making this video is awesome! Btw love the nail polish!!!

Jacqueline Umeh: Thanks Whitney! You're a blessing! I'm tired of buying store bought hair ties that don't work properly and break or deteriorate soon afterwards, this is exactly what i need. Also, i love your vlogs, they make me laugh so much and i'm glad to see your life going so well, keep them coming.

Bree Darcel: I finally tried this! So perfect. Cost efficiency aside. It felt good to make my own

MzKinkyCurl: Also, you can make them longer, like 18-20" ( headband size), in order to band the hair to create a heatless stretching technique

AsiahEVERYTHING: I'm definitely going to the craft store tomorrow to make these! I love the elastic headbands and can't wait to come up with my own!

kgaerr: Tip: Burn the ends to stop them from fraying.

MimiLulu23: So going to make these!!! This is a great DIY for my daughter and I!

Pinky Sista: Sweet! Saving this to my playlists. Still have super shrink so my hair isn't very long for me to use hair elastics but I feel with practice I can start banding my hair. I don't get a lot of pretty color choices for Goody bands locally, so this DIY is bae! Total color freedom! If you use the craft store, you can often get it cheaper than $3 buying pairing purchase up with purchase off coupons. A C Moore, Jo Ann's, and Michael's all accept store and competitor crafting coupons straight from your cellphone. There is usually a limit of 1 coupon in a single visit. That website you found is a awesome find though.

MyNameIsWhitney: Amazing! I feel like these are always sold out when I need to replenish. I will definitely be doing this. Thanks!

RaShawn: Love it! ! Definitely saving this one to my favorites.

Dominique: I'm totally on this. You beat me to the punch with this DIY too because I was tired of breaking my neck to find these things in stores. Thanks for the tip to shop online too. Cheaper and sweeter. I like :)

You'd be the one to do this tutorial b/c I know you love these hair ties and I knew there'd be an easier way to make them rather than shelling out $2 a piece.  Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you ad infinitum!

V Kelly: Just got my elastic and made my first ones. I made my 12 inches instead of nine so I can loop them around my hair twice easier.

beautyforashes: This is so awesome. I can't wait to try. I've been looking for an alternative to the rubber head bands that are usually available in hair stores that have caused me major hair loss and headaches due to the amount of pressure they put on the scalp. It's to the point where I never put my hair up or in pony's anymore out of fear of stressing my hair. Thanks for putting a sista on as always Whit!
